After Transmigrating as a Scumbag Alpha, I Ended Up with the Movie Queen - Chapter 4
The private doctor arrived at Gu Nan’s room carrying her medical kit.
She was a female Beta with an excellent professional reputation who had served the Gu family for nearly thirty years. Seeing Gu Nan sitting on a chair as far from the bed as possible, while another pale woman reclined against the pillows on Gu Nan’s bed, didn’t surprise her at all.
She gave Gu Nan a small smile and set down her kit. “Miss Gu, who should I examine first?”
“Check Miss Shen first. I’m fine.”
“Very well. Miss Shen, please try to relax. I’m going to examine you.”
The doctor moved efficiently, taking various instruments from her bag to begin the check-up. Shen Zhibei flinched slightly but forced herself to relax when she saw the doctor was using standard medical equipment. In Gu Nan’s home, she felt absolutely no sense of security.
“Miss Shen was subjected to an induction agent, and it hasn’t been completely cleared from her system yet. She didn’t get any rest last night and her nerves have been taut, leading to a pheromone imbalance. Physically, there are no major issues, though she does have some gastric discomfort,” the doctor said, frowning.
She took an ampoule of liquid medicine from her kit and spoke gently to Shen Zhibei. “Miss Shen, I’m going to give you a shot of a neutralizing agent to help flush out the induction agent. You’ll need these injections for seven consecutive days. During this time, it is best not to come into contact with any Alpha pheromones, as even a tiny amount could easily trigger a heat cycle.”
Shen Zhibei lowered her eyes and whispered, “Do I have to have a shot?”
“It’s for the sake of your health,” the doctor coaxed softly.
Shen Zhibei weighed her options. She felt that with her skills as a Movie Queen, she could at least pretend not to be afraid, so she nodded in agreement.
“Relax, Miss Shen. My technique is very good. Miss Gu knows this—she used to be terrified of needles, but because my shots don’t hurt at all, she slowly stopped being afraid.”
The doctor spoke soothingly to distract her.
“I’m not afraid,” Shen Zhibei insisted stubbornly. However, the slight tremor in her voice betrayed the fact that she was indeed terrified of needles.
Gu Nan never expected that the formidable Movie Queen would be afraid of shots. Seeing Shen Zhibei staring intensely at the needle to prove her “bravery”—looking as if she might faint at any moment—Gu Nan couldn’t help but speak up.
“It’s okay to be scared. Just don’t look at the needle.”
Her words finally gave Shen Zhibei an excuse to look away. She immediately snapped back at Gu Nan, “I am not scared! The doctor just said you were the one afraid of needles!”
Gu Nan’s goal was simply to get her to stop looking at the syringe; having Shen Zhibei focus her annoyance on her instead actually achieved that.
She replied dismissively, “Ah, right, right. You’re beautiful, so whatever you say is right.”
Shen Zhibei: “……”
For some reason, she felt like she was being subtly mocked.
Taking advantage of Gu Nan’s distraction, the doctor successfully finished the injection. As she hung the IV bag, she looked at Gu Nan. “Next, Miss Shen needs proper rest. She must have three meals a day on time, preferably easily digestible foods like noodles, congee, or vegetables.”
“Furthermore, if possible, Miss Gu, please use pheromone inhibitor patches for the next seven days. Do not release pheromones to induce Miss Shen. Also, please apply a patch to Miss Shen as well.”
Although these were medical instructions, Gu Nan felt like every word was a subtle accusation of her going too far. She grumbled inwardly, but since the original owner’s actions were truly indefensible, she—the current occupant of this body—had to take the blame.
“I understand. Thank you, doctor.”
Seeing Gu Nan acting so obediently, the doctor sighed inwardly. “Alright, now let me check you over.”
Gu Nan’s exam ended quickly because she was in perfect health. She trusted the doctor, but she knew a home visit only covered surface-level physical issues. She decided she’d eventually need to go to a hospital for a full-body scan or a CT—just to see if the “original” Gu Nan was still lurking in her brain.
After walking the doctor to the door, Gu Nan saw an elderly man standing outside holding a tray of food. From her memory fragments, she recognized him as Uncle Quan, the butler who had watched her grow up.
“Uncle Quan, please take the food inside,” she said with natural familiarity.
“Of course, Miss,” Uncle Quan smiled kindly. “Miss Shen’s manager has arrived. She’s sitting in the living room downstairs. Madam spoke with her for a while and has now retired to her room.”
“I see. I’ll go downstairs and bring her up.”
Uncle Quan’s smile turned into one of pride. “Miss has finally grown up; you even know how to receive guests now.”
Gu Nan: “……”
Honestly, how low were your standards for the original me? I’m just meeting a guest; is that really something to be proud of?
Unable to handle Uncle Quan’s heartfelt pride, Gu Nan hurried downstairs.
Ding Ziyan was a capable-looking woman in a professional black suit, likely in her fifties, with a serious expression that made her seem difficult to approach.
“Hello, Sister Yan. I’m Gu Nan.” She introduced herself and extended her hand.
“Hello, Miss Gu.” Ding Ziyan stood up and shook hands. “May I see Zhibei now?”
“Please follow me. She’s resting upstairs.”
As Gu Nan led the way, Ding Ziyan observed her from behind. Before meeting her, she expected a difficult, arrogant heiress, but this young lady’s manners weren’t bad at all. Overall, her first impression was decent—until she saw Shen Zhibei.
Seeing a weak, haggard Shen Zhibei hooked up to an IV drip, Ding Ziyan thought she was seeing things.
“Zhibei!”
Hearing her voice, Shen Zhibei looked over instantly. “Sister Yan!”
Ding Ziyan rushed to her side, pulled Shen Zhibei’s head into her arms, and tenderly brushed the sweaty hair from her forehead. Then, she turned to glare at Gu Nan. “What is the meaning of this? Zhibei was fine yesterday! How did she end up like this today?”
Shen Zhibei gripped Ding Ziyan’s sleeve tightly with her free hand. The arrival of someone familiar finally gave her a sliver of safety.
“It’s all my fault. I will take responsibility,” Gu Nan promised. “My mother will be back for dinner. Once the whole family is here, I will explain everything and give Miss Shen an explanation.”
“Responsibility?” Ding Ziyan asked suspiciously, reaching out to check the back of Shen Zhibei’s neck.
Noticing the movement, Gu Nan said awkwardly, “There’s no mark.”
“Then what are you taking responsibility for?”
“She used an induction agent on me,” Shen Zhibei whispered.
Ding Ziyan’s anger exploded. She pointed at Gu Nan’s nose and cursed, “Shameless! You despicable person! Are you even human?!”
“Yes, I’m shameless. I’m not human.”
Gu Nan had been insulted so much since waking up that she was getting used to it. She even joined in on the self-criticism quite sincerely.
While Ding Ziyan was momentarily stunned by Gu Nan’s self-deprecation, Gu Nan grabbed the tray from the nightstand. “Sister Yan, Miss Shen hasn’t eaten since last night. Please help her eat something.”
She had noticed that the food Uncle Quan brought was untouched. She hadn’t found a chance to mention it earlier, but now was the time.
“Who are you calling Sister Yan?” Ding Ziyan glared at her. “I’ll take care of Zhibei. We don’t need your hypocrisy! Get out!”
Even though it was her own room, Gu Nan retreated sheepishly. Knowing Shen Zhibei wouldn’t be able to leave for a few days, she asked Uncle Quan to prepare a guest room for herself.
Lying on the guest bed, Gu Nan let out a tired sigh. When will this life of being hated by everyone finally end?
Later, Uncle Quan came to notify her that the head of the Gu family, Gu Tiansheng, had returned and was waiting for her for dinner.
“Uncle Quan, did you notify Miss Shen and her manager?” Gu Nan asked.
“I have. They are already on their way downstairs.”
“Ah!” Gu Nan jumped up and rushed down.
“You child, why are you still so flighty?” Gu Tiansheng scolded with a stern face as she watched Gu Nan dash down the stairs.
Despite the scolding, Gu Nan felt no fear. Instead, she said, “I just wanted to see Mother sooner.” The words felt completely natural as she took her seat.
The four people at the table had been conversing politely until Gu Nan appeared. Once she sat down, Shen Zhibei and Ding Ziyan fell silent, staring at their plates.
When everyone was seated, Yin Yuehua ordered the meal to be served. Gu Nan looked at her two smiling mothers, then at the expressionless Shen Zhibei and Ding Ziyan. The pressure was immense.
While her mothers, Gu Tiansheng and Yin Yuehua, had pampered her, they were also people of principle and—historically—quite “violent” in their discipline. In the original novel, Gu Nan had lied to them and forced Shen Zhibei to do the same to avoid a beating.
But now, to keep her promise to Shen Zhibei and rebuild her image, she was going to tell the truth. Looking at the array of cutlery being laid out, she felt like this was going to be a tragedy.
Gu Nan didn’t wait any longer. She cleared her throat and said, “Mother, Mom… I have something to tell you.”
