After Transmigrating as a Scumbag Alpha, I Ended Up with the Movie Queen - Chapter 6
Every time Gu Nan moved, her back throbbed with excruciating pain. Still, she forced herself to sit up and reach out a hand to pull Shen Zhibei up from the floor.
This time, although Shen Zhibei flinched slightly, she didn’t refuse. She used Gu Nan’s strength to stand and then slowly sat on the edge of the bed.
Seeing that Shen Zhibei had no intention of leaving, and feeling the intense pain in her own body, Gu Nan stopped trying to act tough and flopped back onto her stomach.
The room was unlit. Only sparse patches of moonlight filtered through the gaps in the curtains. Shen Zhibei didn’t say a word; she just sat there, staring gloomily at Gu Nan.
Gu Nan felt awkward being watched like that. Even if Shen Zhibei was stunning and exactly her type, she couldn’t stand being stared at indefinitely.
Picking at the bedsheets with her finger, Gu Nan asked, “Why aren’t you resting? Why did you come to my room?”
“To see you.”
Shen Zhibei’s tone was sincere, and her expression seemed genuine. But could Gu Nan believe her? Absolutely not. If killing weren’t illegal, she suspected a knife would have been at her throat before she even woke up.
Gu Nan quirked the corner of her mouth and said, “Is that so? Well, thank you then.”
Gu Nan didn’t mean to sound sarcastic, but because her cheek was swollen and she was muffled by the pillow, her voice came out sounding cold and biting.
Shen Zhibei didn’t seem to care. Her gaze fixed on Gu Nan’s back. Then, she extended a long, fair finger and poked the wound.
“Ow!” Gu Nan nearly died from the sudden pain. “Why did you poke me?!”
“Checking the injury.” Shen Zhibei finally flashed a genuine smile at Gu Nan. “It seems you really are quite badly hurt.”
She had come primarily to see the extent of Gu Nan’s injuries. While Gu Nan was still unconscious earlier, she had lifted the back of her shirt to check. Having spent years filming action scenes, Shen Zhibei knew a lot about trauma; one look told her that Gu Tiansheng had struck with lethal force.
She hadn’t expected Gu Tiansheng to be so ruthless toward her own biological daughter. However, she had to admit that this approach gave her a small sense of relief about the family she was about to marry into. At least in this house, Gu Nan’s mothers were people she could rely on.
Seeing Shen Zhibei smile, Gu Nan’s anger evaporated. The Movie Queen feels like she’s found a patron in this house and has finally relaxed, huh? She’s not even afraid of me anymore—she’s poking my wounds.
Still, this was for the best. It made being beaten like this worth it.
“Miss Shen, I know my credibility with you is bankrupt. You won’t believe anything I say,” Gu Nan said, looking at her. “But I will show you. I will treat you well and never let you be harmed again.”
Shen Zhibei looked into Gu Nan’s eyes. Those “peach-blossom” eyes, usually seen as flirtatious, were now filled with a gravity and honesty that invited her scrutiny. Faced with such a gaze, Shen Zhibei averted her eyes to the floor.
Gu Nan wasn’t surprised. It would be impossible for anyone to believe a person who drugged them one day and promised to cherish them the next. She was prepared for a long-term struggle.
Shen Zhibei felt a flicker of hesitation when Gu Nan spoke with such sincerity, but the memory of that night resurfaced, and the question she had been holding back slipped out.
“Your mothers are so wonderful. Why are you like this?”
Hearing the question, Gu Nan immediately recalled that bizarre dream. Everything in the dream compelled her to believe it. She remembered having no memories prior to age eight, and being in an orphanage ever since. To get ahead, she had worked day and night, finally earning a house and a car only to die of overwork and transmigrate.
The timing of her transmigration was terrible—she arrived just in time to take the fall for the original owner. She had taken a brutal “lesson in love” from her parents just to give the victim an explanation. But after the beating, she found out this was actually her own body, and the person who did those things was her “Shadow.”
Her previous confusion—why she instinctively felt close to Gu Tiansheng, Yin Yuehua, and even Uncle Quan—finally had an answer. It was because she was the Gu Nan of this world. She had lived here for eight years as a child; her feelings for them were real.
Gu Nan’s mood soured instantly. She buried her face completely in the pillow, ignoring the pain in her cheek and the lack of air. “I was possessed by a ghost, probably,” she muffled.
Silence fell between them. Shen Zhibei left quietly, just as she had come. By the time Gu Nan surfaced from her thoughts, she didn’t know how long the other woman had been gone. She didn’t care; she just lay there staring at the carpet until she eventually lost consciousness.
The next morning, Uncle Quan went to knock on Gu Nan’s door for breakfast, only to end up frantically calling the doctor again. Gu Nan had a high fever.
Alphas have strong constitutions and rarely get sick. Aside from a major illness at age eight, Gu Nan had never been ill. Even when beaten by Gu Tiansheng, she was usually lively by the next day. For her to have a fever of over 39°C (102°F) and be comatose was a major event.
Gu Tiansheng and Yin Yuehua didn’t even go to work. Instead, they stayed home and took several photos of Gu Nan’s flushed, feverish face as “souvenirs.”
Shen Zhibei, who had been pulled along to watch the commotion, stood awkwardly between the eccentric couple. At this point, refraining from mocking Gu Nan’s state was the greatest kindness she could offer.
Gu Tiansheng and Yin Yuehua exchanged a subtle glance. Since things had reached this point and Shen Zhibei had agreed to marry Gu Nan, they, as mothers, had to play matchmaker. They couldn’t let the two stay together with this dynamic, or they’d be miserable for life.
The mothers could see that Shen Zhibei had zero affection for Gu Nan—only suppressed anger and hatred. That was normal. But it was strange that they couldn’t see any “love” in Gu Nan’s eyes either. To do something like a forced marking, there should at least be a foundation of obsession or love, however twisted. But there was nothing. She was just very serious about taking responsibility.
The couple couldn’t understand it, so they resolved to watch their daughter closely. If she had any bad intentions, they would crush them at the source. But first, they needed to let Shen Zhibei vent her negative emotions.
“Zhibei, do you want to take a few photos too? Alphas are so sturdy; you have to wait a long time to catch them looking this weak and pathetic,” Yin Yuehua said, giving Gu Tiansheng a flirtatious roll of her eyes.
Gu Tiansheng shrugged. Don’t blame me for being healthy.
“When Baby wakes up and sees our photos, she’s going to explode,” Yin Yuehua giggled. She started taking photos even more enthusiastically, even grabbing Gu Nan’s short hair to style it into different looks for the camera.
Shen Zhibei certainly wanted to take photos. She thought of the photo Gu Nan had taken of her. She had checked Gu Nan’s phone earlier and confirmed there was only that one photo and that it had been thoroughly deleted. But the hatred remained. Deleting it didn’t mean it hadn’t happened.
Her morals prevented her from taking the kind of photos Gu Nan had taken, but since Gu Nan’s own mother was inviting her to take “humiliating” photos that would make Gu Nan blow up, she could do so with a clear conscience.
Shen Zhibei bit her lip, took out the new phone Uncle Quan had bought for her, and snapped photo after photo. She even created a folder named “Blackmail Photos” to store them.
Just then, Uncle Quan announced the doctor had arrived. Yin Yuehua showed some mercy and undid the “pigtails” she had made in Gu Nan’s hair.
The doctor immediately hooked Gu Nan up to an IV and told Shen Zhibei to lie down for her neutralizing injection as well. “Neutralizing agent?” Gu Tiansheng and Yin Yuehua both caught the term.
“Why does she need a neutralizing agent?” Gu Tiansheng asked.
The doctor replied flatly, “Miss Shen was given an induction agent that hasn’t fully cleared her system.”
Who else could have done it! It was definitely that scoundrel! And where did she even get such a thing?
Gu Tiansheng glared at the unconscious Gu Nan. Her fingers twitched as if she were about to grab something and give her another beating. This time, Yin Yuehua stopped her, but her words were as cold as a winter lake.
“Wait until she wakes up. Then we’ll do a ‘mixed doubles’ beating.”
The mothers agreed. They apologized to Shen Zhibei again and hurried to their room to investigate who had sold Gu Nan the induction agent and to discuss how to reconcile the couple.
Shen Zhibei, who had intended to have her shot in her own room, changed her mind after hearing Gu Nan was scheduled for another beating. She sat in a chair near the bed and let the doctor start her IV.
She wanted to make sure that when Gu Nan woke up, the first thing she saw were those humiliating photos—and the second thing she learned was her fate of being beaten again.
At this moment, Gu Nan had no idea what was waiting for her.
