After Transmigrating as a Scumbag Alpha, I Ended Up with the Movie Queen - Chapter 9
The Shadow was a scumbag. The Shadow was a scumbag. The Shadow was a scumbag.
This is a point worth repeating three times.
Gu Nan had almost forgotten the atrocities the Shadow had committed (or was about to commit) because things were slowly improving. But the moment Shen Zhibei mentioned her father and Papa, Gu Nan remembered the scum-tier things the Shadow would have done if she hadn’t returned.
First, to reiterate: before returning, Gu Nan had read a novel based on this world, and it was a tragic GL ABO story. As the female lead of such a novel, Shen Zhibei naturally possessed the standard “tragic childhood.”
She was domesticially abused by her Alpha father. Fortunately, her Omega Papa, Lin Zhaoyang, had always protected and cared for her, ensuring her childhood wasn’t entirely cold. Later, the Alpha father gambled away the family fortune and accrued massive debts. While hiding at home, he caught Shen Zhibei coming home on a school break and used her as a punching bag to vent his frustration.
Lin Zhaoyang had pushed the man to protect her. The drunken man lost his balance, hit his head on the corner of a table, and died from massive hemorrhaging. The years of abuse, combined with the trauma of that event, caused Lin Zhaoyang’s mental health to collapse.
With the father dead, the debts looming, and the Papa needing psychiatric care in a nursing home, the twenty-year-old Shen Zhibei had no choice but to enter the entertainment industry because it was the fastest way to make money.
This explained why Shen Zhibei’s feelings toward her two parents were so polarized. One she refused to mention; the other was her emotional pillar. Naturally, she didn’t want the “scumbag” in her mind (Gu Nan) to have any contact with her father.
However, the Gu mothers were traditional and insisted on meeting Shen Zhibei’s family before the marriage. Shen Zhibei couldn’t refuse such a reasonable request, so she took Gu Nan to see her Papa and arranged a video call with the Gu mothers.
In the original story, this meeting sowed the seeds of disaster. After the wedding, because the Shadow was so awful, Shen Zhibei—with Ding Ziyan’s support—insisted on a divorce. The Shadow retaliated by hiring someone to beat Ding Ziyan into a disability. Still unsatisfied, she used her “relative” status to visit Lin Zhaoyang at the nursing home. She showed him screenshots of the cyberbullying Shen Zhibei faced and the private, explicit photos she had taken of her.
Lin Zhaoyang’s fragile mental state couldn’t handle the shock. He suffered a complete breakdown and jumped from the nursing home’s rooftop, dying instantly. It was the accumulation of all these “hatred debuffs” that caused Shen Zhibei to lose control and kill the Shadow.
Gu Nan hadn’t read past that point because the author’s note said the lead would soon encounter a second “cannon fodder scumbag Alpha.” Gu Nan, who had been enjoying the justice of the Shadow’s death, didn’t want to read about more suffering and closed the tab.
Now, she slightly regretted not reading further. Who was this second scumbag? She could have used the warning. But thinking about it was useless now; the plot had already changed the moment she returned. It was more practical to focus on how to meet her father-in-law.
Gu Nan’s recovery speed was extraordinary. The doctor, who had been coming daily to give Shen Zhibei her neutralizing shots, was amazed by how quickly the swelling on Gu Nan’s face had vanished.
Given that both were recovering well—especially Shen Zhibei, who was now free of the induction agent—the doctor finally permitted them to go out. They could finally take the first step toward clarifying the scandal.
While their agencies had issued statements, their personal social media accounts had remained silent for days, leaving netizens suspicious. Haters and rivals were stirring up trouble on “Big Eye,” trying to ruin Shen Zhibei’s reputation while her resources were being eyed by others.
Armed with the doctor’s permission, their first stop was the nursing home to visit Lin Zhaoyang. Because of strict regulations on appointments and visitor counts, the Gu mothers couldn’t attend in person. They sent Gu Nan with gifts and a plan to have a video call if Lin Zhaoyang’s mental state permitted.
Standing at the nursing home gates doing the visitor registration, Gu Nan was a nervous wreck. “Is this outfit okay?” she asked, clutching the gifts.
Shen Zhibei looked at Gu Nan and was speechless. Gu Nan had used a thick layer of hair gel to slick her short hair back into a sleek pompadour and was wearing a full, formal suit. Her hair was practically reflective.
“It’s fine. Let’s just go,” Shen Zhibei finally said. She stood there with her arm out, waiting, but Gu Nan was too busy fussing with her clothes to notice. “Give me your hand,” Shen Zhibei eventually snapped.
“Huh? What for?”
“Act like we’re close,” Shen Zhibei said, hooking her arm through Gu Nan’s. Her movements were so stiff it looked more like she was arresting her. “Otherwise, my Papa will catch on.”
Gu Nan stiffened at the sudden contact, then slowly relaxed. Sensing the tension, Shen Zhibei let out a cold, mocking laugh. “We’re not at your house anymore; no need to pretend for your mothers.”
“I’m not pretending.” Gu Nan shifted her arm and accidentally brushed against something soft. She froze instantly and stammered, “I-I didn’t do that on purpose.”
“I know. You did it deliberately.” Shen Zhibei kept her face cold and didn’t stop walking.
“With that cold face,” Gu Nan whispered, “aren’t you afraid of messing up the performance for your Papa? Honestly, if you can’t fake it, just smile and stay quiet. That way he won’t notice.”
Shen Zhibei couldn’t believe her ears. She, the Movie Queen, was being lectured on acting by Gu Nan? She shot her a sidelong glance. “I should be saying that to you. If you don’t know what to say to my Papa, then don’t speak. Just agree with whatever I say.”
Gu Nan was only nervous because it was her first time meeting a “girlfriend’s” parent. But hearing Shen Zhibei’s challenge sparked a strange competitive streak. You don’t want me to talk? Just you wait.
At the door of the ward, Shen Zhibei’s cold mask vanished. Her smile turned sweet, her grip on Gu Nan’s arm became soft and gentle, and she interlaced her fingers with Gu Nan’s in a tight “ten-finger lock.”
The sheer level of acting made Gu Nan daze. Movie Queen level really is something else.
Shen Zhibei gave her a look, signaling her to open the door and start the show. Gu Nan steeled herself and pushed the door open.
Inside, a gaunt, refined man sat on the bed. He held a brush in his right hand and a palette in his left, focused on a canvas. The sound of the door drew him out of his world. Seeing his daughter with a stranger, a smile graced his face.
Shen Zhibei hadn’t seen her Papa in a while. Her “act” of a sweet smile turned into a genuine one. But before she could speak, the “smiling” Gu Nan beat her to it.
“Papa!” Gu Nan chirped, pulling Shen Zhibei along.
Both Shen Zhibei and Lin Zhaoyang were stunned by her familiarity. But seeing them arm-in-arm and hearing the “Papa,” Lin Zhaoyang’s smile deepened. He set down his palette.
“And you are…?”
“Papa, I’m Zhibei’s girlfriend. My name is Gu Nan.” Gu Nan set the gifts down and gave his hands a warm, friendly shake. Lin Zhaoyang’s smile grew even warmer, and he gently invited them to sit.
The moment they sat, Shen Zhibei opened her mouth, but Gu Nan cut her off again. “Papa, these are gifts from my mothers. We weren’t sure what you’d like. I asked Zhibei, but she said you’d love whatever we picked.”
“I certainly do,” Lin Zhaoyang said kindly.
Shen Zhibei had a heart full of things to say to her father, but Gu Nan hadn’t stopped chatting since they entered, giving her no room to speak. She shot a dark, “stop it” glare at Gu Nan.
Lin Zhaoyang caught the look. He patted his daughter’s hand gently, then looked at Gu Nan. “Nannan, may I call you that?”
“Of course!” Gu Nan began unpacking a fruit basket to wash some fruit.
“Zhibei can be a bit headstrong. Please be patient with her in the future.”
Shen Zhibei fumed silently at her Papa’s words. Gu Nan, seeing her expression, wanted to laugh. At my house, my mothers side with you. But here? Your Papa sides with me!
“No, not at all,” Gu Nan said humbly. “Since I’m younger than Zhibei, she’s actually the one who puts up with me.”
As soon as those words left Gu Nan’s mouth, Shen Zhibei saw her Papa’s expression turn thoughtful. She sensed trouble.
“May I ask,” Lin Zhaoyang began, “how old are you, Nannan?”
“I’m twenty-four.”
“Twenty-four, I see.” Lin Zhaoyang smiled, then added, “Oh, right. Zhibei doesn’t talk much usually. Please be patient with that as well.”
Shen Zhibei’s expression finally broke.
