After Transmigrating as a Scumbag Alpha, I Was Pampered by a Paranoid Omega - Chapter 2
Daylight had finally arrived!
Bai Manruo scrambled out of bed. Seeing the sunlight streaming through the window, she realized she was the only one in the room.
So, what on earth crawled into my bed last night?
In her state of extreme terror, she hadn’t dared to look back, and eventually, exhaustion had overtaken her, and she had drifted into a daze of sleep.
The experience of “ghostly sleep paralysis” had left Bai Manruo psychologically scarred. She was determined to escape today no matter what; otherwise, there was no telling what kind of eerie encounter awaited her tonight.
Even though it was broad daylight, she remained on high alert, clutching her phone like a brick to use for self-defense.
She hadn’t looked closely last night, but the interior of the castle was unexpectedly massive. The hollowed-out central atrium reached six stories high, with countless rooms of varying sizes. The decor and furniture exuded an air of nobility; it seemed the owner of this castle must have been incredibly wealthy.
Bai Manruo wandered the main hall gripping her “brick,” but didn’t see a soul. Just as she was about to head upstairs, she suddenly heard footsteps behind her.
“What are you doing?”
Bai Manruo nearly swung her phone before she realized it was a woman wearing a white suit jacket.
Scared me to death! Thank god it’s a human.
She let out a massive sigh of relief. You couldn’t blame her for being twitchy; after last night, her heart had been in her throat. Now that she had finally encountered a living person, she rushed over to ask for help.
“Excuse me, could you please help me leave this place? I was dumped here by a crooked agent. How about we exchange WeChat? I’ll make sure to reward you handsomely once I’m back.”
Butler Li studied Bai Manruo. Her looks were indeed exceptional, but hearing her nonsense, the butler’s brow furrowed slightly. She spoke coldly: “Bai Manruo?”
Someone actually recognizes an eighteenth-tier nobody like me? Is she a fan?
Bai Manruo even took a moment to tidy her hair, nodding eagerly. “That’s me.”
“From now on, you are a servant here. Follow me to collect your uniform.”
“A servant?? What do you mean!?” Bai Manruo’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Seeing that Bai Manruo didn’t look like she was faking her confusion, Butler Li realized she truly didn’t know the situation and proceeded to explain the sequence of events.
That trash agent had actually sold her! Bai Manruo had thought that contract was a renewal; she never expected it to be a deed of sale.
Since she was already there, she had to make the best of it—mostly because she couldn’t afford the breach-of-contract fee. She followed behind Butler Li, listening to the introduction of her duties.
To her surprise, people actually lived in this castle.
Butler Li led her to a villa where the servants lived. If nothing else, the living conditions for the staff were much better than her previous crummy rental. It was only a five-minute walk from the castle, making it convenient for the servants to go over and clean.
I didn’t expect there to be so many servants. I guess the world of the rich is beyond the imagination of us poor folk.
Bai Manruo changed into her uniform. As soon as Butler Li left, the others swarmed her.
“You’re so pretty! You look better than the celebrities.”
“I heard you were specially recruited. Have you been inside the castle yet?”
“What’s it like inside? Tell us everything!!”
They were all talking at once, but Bai Manruo just gave a polite smile. She realized she really was an eighteenth-tier flop—so obscure that no one recognized her.
Still, the salary here was higher than what she made as a struggling starlet. The workload was light, the rules were few, and she got free room and board in a villa. That “dog” agent had a sliver of conscience left, though she wouldn’t forget the grudge of being sold.
Bai Manruo spent the day training in the villa area; her main job was that of a nanny/caretaker.
When night fell, she assumed she would sleep in the villa. However, Butler Li suddenly entered and told her she had to continue staying in her previous room in the castle.
“Can I not go? I think living here in the villa is great. Or I could rent a place outside—anyway, I don’t want to go!”
Bai Manruo was the picture of resistance, her hands death-gripped onto the nightstand, refusing to budge. She really didn’t want to go back to that gloomy castle; she’d nearly had the soul scared out of her last night.
“Butler Li, didn’t you say I’d be living in the villa area? Why the sudden change of heart?”
Bai Manruo looked at Butler Li piteously, trying to use her beauty to evoke some sympathy.
Butler Li’s expression remained unchanged, completely unaffected. If anything, there was a hint of disdain in her eyes. She had heard reports today that this girl was clumsy and entirely unfit to be a nanny for Miss Ji. She had assumed that after last night, the Young Mistress would have relegated her to watering flowers in the garden. She hadn’t expected to be told to bring her back to the castle tonight.
Butler Li couldn’t help but scrutinize Bai Manruo’s face. Beautiful, yes—a soul-stirring, atmospheric beauty. But she believed the Young Mistress wasn’t that shallow; Alphas like Bai Manruo were a dime a dozen.
Yet, she had been specifically requested.
Butler Li was displeased but didn’t dare speak out. Seeing Bai Manruo’s desperate refusal to go, she assumed the girl was playing hard to get; after all, an opportunity to step foot in the castle was something others couldn’t even beg for.
If Bai Manruo knew what Butler Li was thinking, she would have cried out: I really, truly don’t want to go!!
But there was no way around it. When you’re under someone else’s roof, you have to bow your head—especially when they hold your “life-lease” contract.
Reluctantly, Bai Manruo packed her things and followed Butler Li toward the castle. The path was so silent she could hear her own breathing. The lights flickered along the way, and the dark grey castle loomed in the moonlight, deep and quiet.
As soon as she entered the bedroom, memories of the previous night flooded back. She turned to grab Butler Li’s sleeve, but the butler had already vanished.
When night came, it happened exactly as she had suspected.
That person climbed into bed once again.
The body pressed against her back carried a hint of warmth and a heartbeat. Though faint, Bai Manruo could be certain this time: it wasn’t a ghost.
Even knowing it wasn’t a ghost, anyone who could appear in a room so silently in the dead of night was surely no ordinary person.
The person behind her had pale, slender fingers. A ghost of a breath brushed against the skin of her nape. Bai Manruo’s lashes trembled as she stole a glance at the hand around her waist. The skin was as white and fragile as cold jade, the well-defined knuckles rubbing against her slender waist.
The body temperature was slightly lower than a normal person’s, but the breath being exhaled was unusually hot, fluttering against her back bit by bit.
Bai Manruo still didn’t dare move. She didn’t know if her actions would upset the person behind her, and she hadn’t forgotten the “mysterious death in three days” omen. Only after surviving those three days could she truly relax.
Suddenly, the breathing of the person behind her became erratic. The pale fingers abruptly tightened, pulling her waist flush against their chest—as if only this could lessen their pain.
The skin at the nape of her neck suddenly felt a chill. Soft, thin lips pressed against her neck, right near her gland—the most sensitive spot. Bai Manruo couldn’t help but shudder.
Her mind went blank. Have I encountered some kind of “pervert ghost”?!
Fortunately, the person behind her made no further moves. They simply held her honestly, rubbing their chin against the hollow of her neck. Although she couldn’t see them, they held her so tightly that they could hear each other’s breathing.
Bai Manruo could clearly feel the change in the person behind her: the pained groans gradually faded into a state of slow relaxation.
