After Transmigrating as a Scumbag Alpha, I Was Pampered by a Paranoid Omega - Chapter 4
The moment her fingers were squeezed, Bai Manruo’s heart jolted. She flung the hand away with all her strength and retreated, her body trembling.
“Are you a person or a ghost!?”
“I’m telling you, ghosts don’t exist in this world! Get out here right now!”
Tense and unable to organize her thoughts, Bai Manruo shouted blindly into the dark air in front of her. But only her own echo lingered in the cavernous room.
She continued to shout to bolster her courage while fumbling around until she found the vase, clutching it to her chest for protection. She remembered the faint fragrance of flower-tea pheromones from the person behind her that night; a delicate scent was currently drifting through the air.
Since she couldn’t see anything in the dark, Bai Manruo simply closed her eyes and followed the scent with her nose. This person must have just finished bathing, as the pheromone scent was much richer than usual.
Ouch, that hurts.
Bai Manruo clutched her head after bumping into a door. The scent ended here. Since the door was closed, the person had to be hiding inside.
Holding the vase in one hand, she opened the door with the other. This room was even darker than the outside. She advanced while swinging the vase, tapping it against things with every step and muttering under her breath, warning the person inside not to put up a futile struggle.
What was that!
Bai Manruo felt her leg hit something hard. She jumped back warily, but there was no response. She slowly leaned down to feel around and realized it was the edge of the bed that had nearly tripped her.
As her hand reached further across the bed, she suddenly felt that same cold, smooth sensation from before.
Got you!
Overcoming her fear, Bai Manruo grabbed hold with both hands, refusing to give them a chance to run this time. To get Butler Li to cancel the contract, she had thrown her fear aside and scrambled onto the bed, but her nerves made her unstable and she tumbled down.
As she propped herself up, her hand brushed against something soft. Curiosity took over, and she felt it with her hand. A warm breath drifted over her fingers, causing her to pull back in a panic, though the moist, soft sensation lingered on her fingertips.
In the darkness, a faint blush crept onto her ears.
Sensing that the dark shadow on the bed was about to bolt, Bai Manruo didn’t have time to think—she sat directly down on the figure.
The person on the bed let out a muffled groan, their breathing becoming ragged.
Hearing the voice, Bai Manruo felt the person beneath her and quickly stood up. No wonder she thought the bed felt quite soft just now; she had been sitting on someone. However, she didn’t dare let go of her grip for a second—her chance to buy back her freedom depended on this.
She could tell the person on the bed was a girl, but it was too dark to see her face.
Following her intuition, Bai Manruo leaned down close to her and lectured: “Whose kid are you? Instead of learning good things, you’re acting like a ghost to scare people. You’re coming with me to see Butler Li in a moment.”
She squeezed the girl’s arm. “Why aren’t you talking? Are you scared? Do you realize you were wrong?”
The moment she finished, a cold voice spoke from beside her: “You are leaning on my chest. It’s very heavy.”
“Oh, oh! Sorry, sorry.” Bai Manruo laughed awkwardly and moved her arm away. She heard the other person take a heavy breath as they recovered.
Bai Manruo’s lips twitched. Why did she sound like she’d just been crushed by a giant boulder? It was her fault for leaning on her, sure, but she wasn’t that heavy, was she?!
“Let go of my hands.” The magnetic, pleasant voice carried a distinct chill.
Pulled back to reality by the voice, Bai Manruo looked at her tightly clenched hands. Hearing the demand, she didn’t let go; instead, she gripped even tighter.
Their fingers were interlaced. At the moment of contact, Ji Yingqing’s only instinct was to pull away; she had always been repulsed by such intimate contact. But the strength in the hands gripping her was surprisingly large. Unfamiliar, delicate skin pressed firmly against hers. A cold temperature met her warm palm, and the fine sweat from her palms began to rub off on the other woman.
Their slender wrists were pressed together, so close they could feel each other’s heartbeats. The person in front of her seemed somewhat nervous and uneasy.
“No way. What if you run away? How would I explain it to Butler Li?”
Ji Yingqing was pulled back by the voice. She frowned slightly. “Butler Li let you up here?”
She remembered giving strict orders that no one was to enter the third or fourth floors. Butler Li couldn’t possibly be unaware of that.
“Why are you asking so many questions? You can’t run now anyway. Just wait obediently for the butler. And don’t do this ‘ghost’ stuff anymore—scaring people like this can literally kill them, do you understand?”
As she spoke, Bai Manruo grew more indignant. She truly had been scared half to death.
The air fell silent for a few seconds. The room remained pitch black. Bai Manruo squeezed the hand she was holding. “Why did you stop talking?”
The previous sense of unease surged back. Getting no response, her voice trembled as she spoke: “Are you trying to scare me again? I’m not afraid!”
She swallowed nervously and shifted her grip to make sure the hand was still there. She felt her way up from the hand, her long fingers fumbling blindly in her nervousness. She accidentally pulled open the collar of a silky robe, but she didn’t notice.
Not until her fingers touched something soft was her arm suddenly seized.
Ji Yingqing pulled the hand away from her clothes and said coldly, “Don’t touch me recklessly.” She had originally found it amusing and wanted to scare her a bit, but she hadn’t expected the girl to be this easily spooked.
“Where is the light switch? Otherwise, I won’t let go.”
Bai Manruo put her hand back, intentionally grabbing at her clothes. If she didn’t turn on the light, she would stick to her like glue. She even gave a soft spot a little squeeze. Feeling the person in front of her stiffen, Bai Manruo looked up triumphantly.
Sure enough, a second later, a frigid voice said word for word: “Let go. I will go turn on the light.”
“That’s a good girl.” Bai Manruo immediately withdrew her hands and waited honestly for the light.
The air was quiet for a few beats.
Bai Manruo looked at the motionless figure. “Well? Aren’t you going to turn on the light?”
Ji Yingqing looked down and gently tugged at her hand, which was still firmly interlaced with the other woman’s.
Oh. Bai Manruo had thought she was backing out, but it was just because she was still holding her hand.
Bai Manruo crossed her arms. “I’m not letting go of the hand. What if you run away while you’re supposed to be turning on the light?”
Ji Yingqing’s lips curled in a helpless arc. She was debating whether or not to tell her the truth.
“Bai Manruo, you…” Before she could finish, Bai Manruo interrupted in shock: “How do you know my name?! You didn’t investigate my background just for a prank, did you??”
Could she be a fan? If so, she must be young; otherwise, she wouldn’t be so childish as to play ghost just to get her idol’s attention.
Bai Manruo symbolically straightened her messy hair, cleared her throat, and spoke in a gentle, “celebrity” tone: “Then you should know that Big Sister is a big star who relies on her face. You can’t go around scaring people like this anymore, okay?”
Ji Yingqing raised an eyebrow. “An eighteenth-tier big star?”
She usually had no interest in the entertainment industry, but she had looked at Bai Manruo’s profile card—specifically, she had looked at the photo for a few extra seconds.
…Awkward. So she wasn’t a fan.
But even if she wasn’t a fan, couldn’t she show a little respect? That was a total low blow!
Bai Manruo swallowed her words and quickly changed the subject. “Go turn on the light. Don’t try to escape.”
She gripped the girl’s arm tightly as they moved through the darkness, chattering away to distract herself from her fear. But she was the only one talking; the person beside her never replied.
A few minutes passed without finding the switch. Bai Manruo felt like they were just walking in circles. Just as she was about to speak, she heard a loud crash.
Terrified, she immediately let go and covered her ears. By the time she recovered, the person was long gone.
She definitely did that on purpose!!!
Bai Manruo was furious but didn’t dare move. Suddenly, the lights flickered on. She saw her porcelain vase shattered on the floor nearby. That was the sound she had heard.
The person in the bedroom had disappeared. Bai Manruo scanned the room: in the center was a soft, comfortable bed, and the walls and decorations were all vintage in style.
She certainly knows how to pick a room.
Bai Manruo knelt to pick up the shards. She really wanted to cry; she only had two hundred yuan in her pocket—how was she going to pay for this? She had only intended to use it as a threat; she knew that if she actually hit someone over the head with it, she’d be finished.
She only wanted to scare the girl, but now the girl had broken the vase. Bai Manruo vowed to catch her today and tell Butler Li that she wasn’t the one who broke it. If she dared to come back tonight, she’d be walking right into a trap!
Looking at the soft bed made her even angrier. She was the one who had to pay, yet the “thief” got to live so comfortably.
Bai Manruo unceremoniously stripped the silk sheets from the bed and used them to wrap up the vase shards. These were evidence. If Butler Li made her pay later, maybe keeping the pieces would mean she’d have to pay less.
Returning to the main hall, she began planning her operation for tonight. Although she didn’t know how the girl had a key, every door and window was locked from the inside, so she had to be coming through the door.
Tonight, she would hide behind the door and catch her the moment she entered.
Bai Manruo searched for “tips for catching creeps” on her phone. She brought back a basin from the villa, stood on a cabinet, and balanced the water-filled basin on top of the door frame.
When the door opened tonight, the girl would be soaked from head to toe. That would be the moment to strike. Bai Manruo chuckled at the image; there was no way she would miss this time.
At noon, she went to the villa for lunch. The sun was scorching outside, and the dining area was crowded with people. Even with the air conditioning, it didn’t feel very cool. By comparison, the castle was cool, quiet, and peaceful.
Because of her physical constitution, she sweated easily and hated the heat. After hesitating for a few seconds, she decisively took her food back to the castle to eat.
This was the first time she had gone to the castle willingly. Thinking about it, if it weren’t for the “haunting,” working at the castle would actually be a dream job. The castle was usually empty yet the AC was always on; the electricity bill alone probably cost more than her annual salary.
She kept complaining internally, but the moment she opened the door, the cool air rushed out to meet her. Bai Manruo squinted in comfort, the heat instantly vanishing from her body.
At that moment, she took back her earlier words. Some money was worth spending. Since the AC was running and no one was there to enjoy it, she might as well take advantage of it. Otherwise, it would be a waste of money.
