After Transmigrating As A Scummy Attention-Seeker Alpha, I Became a Global Sensation in the Entertainment Industry (GL) - Chapter 3
Chen Chi arrived in the small town at 4:00 AM. Despite promising herself she’d never stay up late again, she hadn’t slept a wink all night, consumed by worry for her sister.
By 5:00 AM, she was already staking out the school gates. The gates were tightly shut. In the transition from late summer to early autumn, the wind whistled down her collar. She squatted in front of the rusted iron gates, looking like a vagrant.
The uncle running the breakfast stall opened his shop and caught sight of the woman with disheveled hair. He jumped in fright.
“Little girl, it’s not time for school yet. Why are you up so early?”
Chen Chi’s outfit made her look like a high schooler; she was wearing a plain baseball jacket, and because the original host was nearsighted, she wore a pair of unremarkable black round-rimmed glasses. The glasses made her look even more like a fresh high school freshman.
Chen Chi looked at the uncle in confusion, but he found her quite interesting.
“Come inside and get out of the wind. Don’t be fooled by it being summer—this wind is chilly!”
Chen Chi thought about it and decided it was a good idea. The wind outside was indeed strong, and with two hours to wait, squatting there wasn’t a long-term solution.
“Uncle, thank you! How much for the soup dumplings? I’ll buy a steamer and sit inside to eat.”
The uncle smiled and held up five fingers. “Five yuan a steamer. My daughter studies at this school too. Students don’t have much money, so I don’t make a profit off of you kids.”
The uncle was straightforward, with bronzed skin and obvious crow’s feet when he laughed.
Noticing his daughter went there, Chen Chi asked, “Uncle, does your daughter know a girl named Chen Tang?”
The uncle repeated the name, “Chen Tang…” He seemed to remember something. “You mean Chen Tang? My daughter often mentions her to me and her mother. Oh, right—last month my daughter even brought her to play at our place. She’s a very sensible girl!”
Chen Chi pressed on, “Uncle, do you know who else Chen Tang hangs out with, besides your daughter?”
Upon hearing this, the smile vanished from the owner’s face. With a look of disgust, he said, “Limping Zhang’s daughter is incredibly bossy. She hit my daughter at school. If my wife hadn’t noticed something was wrong, she’d probably still be getting bullied. That Chen Tang you mentioned… Limping Zhang’s daughter pestered her every few days. I bet she’s been bullied miserably.”
Chen Chi’s hand tightened around her chopsticks. With a loud snap, the wooden sticks broke.
It seemed the teacher wasn’t ignorant of what those “lively” students were actually like. Parents had already complained, yet the teacher still arranged for such students to share a dormitory with her sister.
“Little girl, the dumplings are here. Want some soy milk? We have porridge too!”
The uncle tried his best to upsell his products. Chen Chi wasn’t hungry, but out of gratitude for the information, she ordered a cup of soy milk.
“I’ll have a soy milk then. Thanks, Uncle!”
“Hey, don’t mention it! Just come back and support my business more often!”
At 7:00 AM, the school gates opened. The day students were all freshmen. The school had a strange rule: sophomores and juniors had to live in the dorms. If a student refused, the teachers would mock them sarcastically.
“Hello, is this Chen Tang’s teacher? I’m taking my sister to a major hospital for an exam today. After what happened at school, as her sister, I’m not at ease.”
The teacher made an excuse. “You’re Chen Tang’s sister? Don’t you know she’s about to start her senior year? Time is very tight right now. Going for a check-up will delay the child’s progress. Come next Sunday; they have a break then.”
In a tone that brooked no argument, Chen Chi said loudly, “I am taking my sister to the hospital today!”
The security guard blocking Chen Chi was intimidated by her sharp aura. She took off her black-rimmed glasses, revealing a ruthless glint in her almond-shaped eyes that she didn’t bother to hide. She looked like a battle-hardened wolf.
This person was not someone to be messed with.
Being a good judge of character, the guard let her in. He didn’t dare provoke her and preferred to stay on her good side.
“Go in, go in. I’m making an exception for you. Just don’t tell anyone I let you in.”
Acting like he’s so noble, Chen Chi thought. He’s just a bully who fears the strong. She let out an angry huff, glared at him, and entered.
Chen Tang’s teacher found out Chen Chi was on campus and abandoned the morning study hall to follow Chen Chi to the Dean’s office.
“I told you, your sister is fine! As her homeroom teacher, don’t I know my students’ condition? I know better than you parents whether she’s sick or not!”
Chen Chi laughed out of pure anger. She turned abruptly to confront the middle-aged teacher.
“You call yourself a homeroom teacher, yet you don’t know what kind of scum those students in your class are? Do you not know they bully their classmates? You know everything—you just don’t want to deal with it!”
“Hey now! What kind of talk is that? It’s not easy for me to manage two classes. With so many students, I can’t look after everyone! Your sister is a total wallflower. I was kind enough to move the lively students into her dorm to bring her out of her shell. Was I being a busybody? Was I wrong?”
What a troublesome parent, the teacher thought. Chen Tang’s family really are all no-goods. She cursed Chen Chi inwardly and decided she’d take it out on Chen Tang in class later to regain her “face” in front of the students.
Chen Chi didn’t have time for this old woman’s nonsense. She wanted to find the person actually in charge. She didn’t believe the evidence in her hand wouldn’t be enough to make the school take notice.
“I don’t have time for your drivel.”
She headed straight for the Dean.
Fortunately, the Dean—another middle-aged woman—had a much more professional aura. After hearing the situation, the Dean adjusted her glasses and personally went to the sophomore Class 1 to fetch Chen Tang and the other students.
The homeroom teacher’s face turned various shades of green and white. Her narrow eyes glinted with resentment. I’m definitely marking this down against Chen Tang, she thought.
“Chen Tang, come out for a moment,” the Dean said gently, but her tone shifted to one of annoyance for the others. “You girls, come out too!”
Chen Tang had a short student-style haircut and stood about 1.6 meters tall. Seeing her notoriously bad-tempered sister from a distance, she felt apprehensive, wondering if she was in trouble again.
The bullies walked out confidently, but Chen Tang kept her head low, looking like an easy target.
Chen Chi noticed the change in her sister. In the original host’s memory, Chen Tang was confident—shy and quiet, yes, but she never backed down in front of others.
How much suffering did it take to break her like this?
“Sister, come here to me!”
Chen Tang looked up. The word “Sister” rolled around her throat, but she didn’t say it. She silently walked to the Dean’s side.
Chen Chi felt a bit awkward. She couldn’t blame the girl. It was all the original host’s fault—that scumbag who, instead of protecting her sister, had slapped her in front of a bunch of thugs when she was still in elementary school.
Before the Dean could start questioning, the homeroom teacher lost her patience and interrogated Chen Tang.
“Chen Tang, speak up! Did they bully you? Your teacher is asking you—you must tell the truth!”
Chen Chi couldn’t stand people who used their status as teachers to pressure students. She raised her voice, pointing at the teacher’s nose. “Shut up! If something happens to my sister, you’re the first one I’m coming for!”
The teacher was visibly startled. The Dean stepped in to smooth things over.
“Parent, let’s talk in the office.”
The Dean didn’t let the homeroom teacher follow. “Teacher Wang, stay in the classroom and watch the students’ morning study. I will talk with this parent in detail.”
The teacher’s face turned livid, but she had no choice but to obey.
This was the first time Chen Chi had ever stood up for her. Chen Tang was moved to tears. She stepped small toward Chen Chi, tugged at her sleeve, and whispered, “Sister.”
It was quiet, but Chen Chi heard it. She felt the grueling journey was worth it. A sister this good deserved protection. She took the girl’s hand and gave her a kind smile.
Chen Tang’s eyes sparkled. She looked away shyly, her ears turning bright red.
“What?” The Dean looked at the bullies with a piercing gaze. “You say they bullied Chen Tang?”
Chen Chi held out her phone with the threatening messages. “Dean, see for yourself. Match the phone numbers and see if they sent them!”
Zhang Jia refused to admit it. “I didn’t send that!”
But when she saw the Dean reaching for the phone to call her limping father, she immediately confessed—albeit with a slippery excuse.
“We’re classmates! We were just joking around. We’re actually great friends, right, Chen Tang?” Zhang Jia grabbed Chen Tang’s pinky finger, forcing a smile. “Tell them, Chen Tang!”
“Take your hand off my sister!” Chen Chi glared at the girl. Trying to threaten her right in front of me? Do you think I’m a pushover?
“I’m reporting this to the police. How the school handles it is your business, but I won’t let anyone who bullies my sister off the hook!”
“Wait, wait! Parent… Parent!”
But Chen Chi had already led Chen Tang away. She had plenty of evidence—the threats and the recorded phone call were enough to charge Zhang Jia.
The police also needed the results of a physical exam. Malicious injury is a serious offense, and in this world, once a person has “differentiated” at age 16, they are subject to adult laws.
At the hospital, seeing how thin her sister was, Chen Chi ordered a full-body check-up. The results came out in the afternoon: the injuries were classified as “minor.” Chen Chi knew the law—it only counted as “serious” if a finger was permanently disabled, for example.
“Sis, why are you helping me?”
Outside the hospital, the girl asked out of the blue. Chen Chi replied without hesitation, “Because you’re my sister!”
Upon hearing this, Chen Tang lunged forward and hugged Chen Chi’s arm, sobbing silently. If it weren’t for the wetness on her sleeve, Chen Chi would have thought she was just acting spoiled.
“It’s okay now. I’ll protect you from now on.”
By evening, Chen Chi hadn’t forgotten about her livestream. She was staying at a town hotel with her sister. She started the stream right in front of her.
[A Hater of Attention-Seeker Chen Chi]: 【Crap! Who is that behind you? Tell me! Tell me! She’s way too cute!】
[Commenter]: 【Wipe your drool, man.】
Seeing her sister getting praised, Chen Chi said proudly, “This is my sister!”
The viewers were stunned. The drama queen’s sister is actually this beautiful?!
【Ding! 300,000 Passerby Fans and 10,000 Haters have converted to ‘Sister Fans.’】
Chen Chi was shocked. That works too?
The chat was flooded: 【First time seeing her, so cute, I’m a fan!】
[A Hater…]: 【Drama queen, move! Don’t block the sister!】
Chen Chi: “…”
“Weren’t you guys here to watch me play games? I posted the challenge yesterday!”
Chat: 【Huh? What? Who wants to watch you play? We’re here for the sister!】
The viewers had completely abandoned her for the sister. Chen Chi was speechless.
