After Transmigrating as the Abandoned Rich Wife O, I Turned the Scum A's Life into a Crematorium [Transmigration] - Chapter 10
The weather grew colder. The breath exhaled from one’s mouth formed a ring of white mist in the air.
Gu Bei didn’t ask for help from the maids; she put on her bright silver and yellow patchwork canvas shoes herself.
She learned from the butler that Xin Mengyao was going to stay at Shen Siying’s house. Since she had just returned to the country and had no relatives nearby, she was to settle in first before making further plans.
Gu Bei didn’t think much of it. There were plenty of rooms, and having more people around made things livelier. At least during meals, she wouldn’t just be staring at Shen Siying in awkward silence.
Shen Siying was clutching her diamond-encrusted clutch bag when Xin Mengyao called out to stop her before she headed out. The other woman reached out to tuck Shen Siying’s grape-purple hair behind her ears. “Our Siying is the most beautiful.”
Shen Siying didn’t dodge, nor did she show any displeasure. Instead, she gave a rare, warm smile. This time, even the butler’s eyebrows twitched involuntarily.
“Be careful on the road, stay safe,” Xin Mengyao said. Shen Siying nodded and turned to leave.
As the two-tone Maybach disappeared from sight, Xin Mengyao retreated to the living room and sat on the sofa. She crossed her legs and skillfully picked up a book from the low magazine rack nearby, flipping through it casually.
The same maid she had thanked earlier brought her a glass of hot water. She ignored the girl completely. As the maid turned to leave, she heard Xin Mengyao’s voice suddenly change behind her: “It’s so hot?”
The maid turned back to meet the other woman’s smiling eyes. Xin Mengyao said, “Could you help me blow on it to cool it down? I bit my tongue earlier.”
The maid immediately took the cup and blew gently.
“Oh, don’t get too close to the cup!” Xin Mengyao was still smiling, her tone gentle yet impossible to refuse.
Seeing Gu Bei walking toward the entrance, she asked: “Sister, are you going out?”
Although Xin Mengyao looked young, Gu Bei didn’t feel old herself, so being called “Sister” made her feel a bit uncomfortable. Furthermore, living under the same roof and being called “Sister” felt weird. Was this Shen Siying’s harem? Were they two concubines, one following on the other’s heels?
Gu Bei didn’t bother with much politeness: “Yeah.”
Xin Mengyao’s expression darkened slightly. “Is a married Omega allowed to go out whenever they please?”
The moment Gu Bei looked up at her, Xin Mengyao smiled again, but Gu Bei caught the ill intent in her tone.
Xiao Ba: “See? See how irritating she is? She’s an outsider, what right does she have to talk to you like that!”
Xiao Ba: “Quick, roast her! Tear her apart!”
Instead of acting on it, Gu Bei felt her small spark of anger suppressed by Xiao Ba’s nagging. People are strange; the more you tell them to do something, the less they want to do it.
At the office building, Gu Bei stepped out of the elevator and saw a tall girl leaning against a stone pillar by the studio door, smoking.
“Hello,” Gu Bei said. She pointed at the No Smoking sign on the door with a serious face. “You can’t smoke here.”
The girl obediently put out the cigarette. “Gu Bei?”
Gu Bei opened the door. “Do we know each other?”
“Baby, what’s wrong with you?” The girl’s lips were very thin, and her smile was somewhat inscrutable. “It’s me, Magna.”
Gu Bei looked at the mysteriously smiling Magna with disbelief. From their chats, Magna had seemed somewhat old-fashioned and knowledgeable, which didn’t match this trendy-clothed, mixed-race “hoodlum” vibe at all.
“Don’t tell me you’re still mad about that incident?” Magna approached Gu Bei, trying to nuzzle her neck with her head.
Xiao Ba: “Gland crisis!”
Hearing that, Gu Bei instinctively covered her ears—no, her hands clumsily moved to the back of her neck to protect her scent gland.
“You’re still the same, forgetting your suppressant patch.” Magna moved in front of Gu Bei, leaning half-against the door with her arms crossed. “I really have nothing to do with that bartender.”
Gu Bei had no idea what Magna was talking about. It seemed the original host had an affair with this woman. As for how far it went, she couldn’t tell yet.
Xiao Ba: “She can help you reach a Bad End.”
Reminded by Xiao Ba, Gu Bei realized this person was likely bad news. She only wanted to focus on her career and not die young, so she had to keep her distance. She shoved the door open with force; Magna, caught off guard, stumbled and nearly fell.
“Hey, how can you be like this? You ignore me after flirting with me?” Magna grumbled behind her. “Don’t think just because Shen Siying backs you up, I can’t do anything to you. If she knew you were out here…”
Gu Bei turned around abruptly. Magna, following closely, made a surrender gesture with her hands but lost her balance and ended up hugging Gu Bei.
“I noticed when you stepped out of the elevator—have you gotten fat?” Magna was about to let her hands wander.
“Let—go—of—me!”
Gu Bei spoke each word with weight, her suddenly cold eyes looking a bit terrifying.
“Baby, what’s wrong? Did something trigger you?” Magna had never seen Gu Bei glare at her like that or speak in such a tone. She found it hard to accept for a moment.
“I should thank you for saying I’ve gotten fat?” Gu Bei said.
Magna rubbed her nose with her fingertip. “Fat looks better on you.”
Regardless of the history between the original host and Magna, it didn’t stop Gu Bei from making money. After all, Magna had provided many suggestions, recommended a great office space, and found two Alphas who met the public aesthetic. So, she planned to give Magna some face.
“Sit,” Gu Bei said.
“Do it?” Magna quipped (playing on the word ‘sit/do’).
“What are you thinking?” Gu Bei looked at the excited Magna. “Stop hovering in front of me, okay? There’s a sofa right behind you!”
Magna plopped down. “Softness is okay.” She crossed her legs and bounced her toe. “I really do want to mark you, but you won’t let me.”
Not a very serious person, Gu Bei thought. But fortunately, it seemed they were just flirting.
Gu Bei sat at her computer, opening one webpage after another and working in Excel for an hour. When she looked back at Magna on the sofa, the girl’s sleeping posture was hideous.
Returning her gaze to her phone, she saw a message from Jian Peiyun: [A video file. Please check it out. If you think I’m okay, let’s meet and chat.]
The video showed Jian Peiyun playing the guitar. The environment was quiet; the guitar sounded a bit muffled and husky, but very healing. Gu Bei pulled a pair of earphones from her drawer. The music traveled through the crowds of the world and into her ears.
It sounded so good it felt like her ears were going to “get pregnant.” She listened to it no less than five times before replying: [Let’s have an interview this afternoon.]
Having a member who can play an instrument is a huge plus for a girl group; it increases exposure and makes it easier to go viral. She added another message: [2:30.]
Jian Peiyun replied instantly: [Okay, Boss.]
Gu Bei wasn’t used to her new identity yet and felt awkward being called “Boss.” She planned to remind Jian Peiyun about it later.
“You’re in a good mood,” Magna woke up.
Gu Bei remembered there was still another person in the room. “Weren’t we supposed to meet at PT Bar?” She was just asking casually; she hadn’t intended to go.
“I was worried your startup was too hard, so I wanted to bring you first-hand entertainment industry news as soon as possible.”
Magna was a professional manager who had made several low-tier starlet Omegas and Alphas famous, along with some good-looking Betas. She was an experienced player with a sophisticated “fishing” personality. She never lacked money for shopping or someone to warm her bed in winter.
The only reason she was involved with Gu Bei was because of Shen Siying. They had met at a gala. Back then, Magna wasn’t as powerful as she was now, while Shen Siying was already a pillar of high society. Magna needed sponsors to promote her idols. Ambitious people are never satisfied with those only slightly better than themselves, so she targeted the youngest billionaire present.
But Shen Siying wasn’t someone just anyone could approach. When she spoke, even business veterans went silent. Naturally, she didn’t take Magna seriously—not out of arrogance, but because she valued economic scale: “What kind of profit can you bring me? What do I get from investing in you?”
As a nobody back then, Magna couldn’t guarantee anything. She still remembered the tone Shen Siying used to reject her and the look in her eyes as she walked away. She hated Shen Siying—hated her so much she lost sleep. Consequently, she grew rapidly. In just three years, she became a big name in the industry.
Gu Bei looked at her. “I haven’t even gathered all the members yet.”
Magna said, “If you need help with anything, just ask.”
Gu Bei was puzzled. “Why are you helping me so much?” She hoped for a different kind of answer.
Magna narrowed her eyes and smiled. “Because I like you, of course.”
