After Transmigrating as the Abandoned Rich Wife O, I Turned the Scum A's Life into a Crematorium [Transmigration] - Chapter 15
Gu Bei rubbed her cold hands, looking at Jian Peiyun with a dazed expression. “Compensate?”
“That’s right,” Jian Peiyun said, leaning in and pinning her against the wall. “Compensate me.”
“What kind of compensation do you want?” Gu Bei felt a bit bashful.
Before she transmigrated, it was perfectly normal for two girls to be physically close, but now, Gu Bei actually felt a sense of “propriety between Alphas and Omegas.” She thought that if Jian Peiyun got any closer, she would have to push against the other woman’s chest. She was actually wondering what that would feel like.
However, Jian Peiyun stopped her advance. “Since you’re so cute, I’ll let bygones be bygones.”
Gu Bei let out an imperceptible sigh of relief.
Back at the Shen estate, Shen Siying had little appetite and didn’t eat much. Taking off her coat, she looked at the sleeping Xin Mengyao and suddenly thought of Gu Bei, whom she had sent away.
“Where is Gu Bei?” She walked down the stairs, noticing the dining table was already deserted.
A maid replied, “The Madam finished her meal a long time ago. Perhaps she went back to her room?”
Coming down from the guest bedroom, Shen Siying naturally had to pass Gu Bei’s room. But the door was wide open, the lights were on, and the room was empty.
She checked her watch with a tense expression: 21:12.
In the past, Gu Bei would have prepared her bathwater by now and called her sweetly to wash up. Although Shen Siying hadn’t liked it, she had never refused, nor had she ever asked if Gu Bei was doing it of her own free will.
Furthermore, the old Gu Bei seemed to need nothing but Shen Siying; she was a bit wicked, but she was easy to control. However, this increasingly strange Gu Bei disappeared at the drop of a hat, and her mind was never on her husband. If it weren’t for that accidental heat cycle, they wouldn’t even have the intimacy of friends.
Staying out late had become the new normal, and there was that lingering scent of other annoying Alphas. What the hell is going on?
The more Shen Siying thought about it, the more unsettled she felt. She wanted to go out and find Gu Bei, but a sudden cry from upstairs pulled at her nerves. She rushed to Xin Mengyao’s room; the girl was awake, and the maids had already withdrawn. Xin Mengyao sat dazed on the bed, staring at Shen Siying as she burst in.
In an instant, her tears broke through the floodgates again.
“Siying, why did you leave me?” Her tone was a mix of a spoiled whine and a reproach.
Shen Siying was most vulnerable to this and immediately gave in. She knelt by Xin Mengyao’s bed. “Mengyao, I didn’t leave you. Don’t be afraid.”
She ended up agreeing to Xin Mengyao’s request to stay in the room with her until she fell fast asleep.
On the other side, Gu Bei and Jian Peiyun were already inside the studio. They discussed their views on the future development of the girl group; Jian Peiyun’s ideas aligned perfectly with Gu Bei’s. With looks, talent, and a business mind, she was a certified money tree.
Gu Bei successfully signed her final member.
While she was still basking in the joy, Shen Siying’s message bomb exploded on her phone:
“Where are you?”
“Do you know what time it is?”
“Do you want me to pick you up?”
“Are you throwing a tantrum?”
“Mengyao is in heat. As a fellow Omega, can’t you show a little more tolerance?”
Blah, blah, blah.
It was rare for Shen Siying to say so much to her, but even so, she couldn’t hide the overwhelming displeasure between the lines. Gu Bei didn’t want to reply. Not for any other reason than the fact that she was truly busy. Having just signed the final member, she needed to find a PR team as quickly as possible to push her group into the public eye.
When it came to making money, everything else could wait.
Seeing that Gu Bei hadn’t replied for a long time, Shen Siying couldn’t sit still. She disregarded the corner of her shirt being held by Xin Mengyao. “Mengyao, I have something to take care of. I need to go out for a moment.”
Xin Mengyao didn’t answer. Shen Siying pried her hand away, only for it to be grabbed back. “Siying, I regret it.”
In the past, Xin Mengyao had indeed occupied an extremely important place in Shen Siying’s heart. Xin Mengyao had gone abroad for her piano studies; for several years, Shen Siying had waited for her. Had it not been for family pressure, she would have waited until the end. Shen Siying told herself that since the girl was back, everything should revolve around her.
She didn’t withdraw her hand. “Mengyao, what is it?”
Xin Mengyao said with a sob, “Even though I won the competition, I can’t stand by your side. I feel so lonely.”
Those words were true. She continued, “If I hadn’t gone abroad to study piano back then, would the ‘Mrs. Shen’ of this house be me?”
Shen Siying liked Xin Mengyao—a pure, simple kind of like. They had always called each other friends and never crossed any lines. They had been classmates for six years through middle and high school. Before they differentiated into different genders, Shen Siying hadn’t hit her growth spurt yet and was about the same height as Xin Mengyao. Both were beautiful, but Xin Mengyao was more strikingly glamorous.
In their second year of high school, Alphas who had already differentiated tried to pursue Xin Mengyao with “colorful” intentions. She refused, so she was often cornered in the playground or the lab. Shen Siying would stop at nothing to rescue her, even damaging public property a few times, which led to her parents being summoned by the homeroom teacher.
Their bond was deep; they never fought. They celebrated each other’s birthdays, watched the latest movies together, and drank the mediocre new releases at milk tea shops. If they hadn’t differentiated in the second half of their senior year, or if they had differentiated into the same gender, perhaps they would still be best friends who could see each other without blushing.
To Shen Siying, Xin Mengyao was a sacred, untouchable part of her life—at least, until Xin Mengyao said those words.
“Mengyao, I am sorry about that.” Shen Siying felt a sense of relief as she spoke the apology.
“Do you remember that gravel path lined with locust trees?” Shen Siying gently patted Xin Mengyao’s hand with her other hand. “I said I liked you, and that no matter what gender we differentiated into, I would protect you and like you just the same.”
Xin Mengyao looked at the reminiscing Shen Siying dazed, trying to search for that memory.
“But I failed to keep that promise.” Shen Siying lowered her eyes. “I can’t even remember your face at that moment—whether you were laughing or crying.”
Shortly after making that vow, the locust forest was hit by the largest flash flood in history. A naive Shen Siying had run into the mountains alone at night. Her grandmother had to contact the then-powerful Gu family to deploy a helicopter rescue team just to barely save her. When she was brought back, she was covered in mud, clutching two locust branches with ruined flower clusters. Even in her deep coma, she kept shouting, “Save the trees, save them.”
When she grew up, Shen Siying spent a fortune fixing the mountain roads and built a highly restored locust forest. Later, she simply bought the nameless mountain and named it Locust Mountain.
“Isn’t it your birthday next week? I want to give you a gift.” Shen Siying looked affectionately at the still-dazed Xin Mengyao.
Xin Mengyao cupped Shen Siying’s face. “To me, you are the greatest gift.”
Shen Siying didn’t pull away. “Now is not the time.”
A thought of divorcing Gu Bei flashed through her mind, but it was suppressed by images of Gu Bei eating Madeleines.
Shen Siying was unable to get away, so she sent her driver to the studio to check things out. Gu Bei’s studio now had glass doors and a fingerprint lock; standing at the door, the driver could see everything happening inside.
The mistress of the house was once again alone in a room with a beautiful female Alpha.
One photo and one sentence completely set Shen Siying off. Although she knew Gu Bei was busy with the girl group, she still couldn’t accept her Omega staying out late and meeting a strange female Alpha alone.
She quickly sent a message: “Explain this photo.”
A photo of Gu Bei and Jian Peiyun sitting face-to-face, deep in conversation, appeared in the chat. Gu Bei stared at the screen for a long time. She started typing “Girl group member” but felt it wasn’t right. She deleted it and tried again but still wasn’t satisfied. Hating the hassle, she simply replied: “Why should I explain?”
Shen Siying could practically smell that “nauseatingly sweet” milky candy pheromone through the screen and felt the arrogant defiance from the other side. Her knuckles turned white from gripping the phone. She wanted nothing more than to appear before this “idiot” Omega right now, grab her by the collar, and drag her back.
She didn’t know what had come over her. She had already drafted the divorce papers the night she learned Xin Mengyao was back. Why did the urge feel less intense now? Perhaps those optional papers were just a way to teach her Omega a lesson.
In the studio, the lights burned bright through the night. Gu Bei stood at the door with her arms crossed, looking at the culprit behind the secret photo—the driver.
“Shen Siying sent you to spy on me?” she asked.
Caught red-handed, the driver showed no embarrassment. After a long pause, he hummed a “Yes.”
“I know you don’t like me. Plenty of people hate me; one more doesn’t make a difference!” Gu Bei said righteously. “But I am an independent and free individual. I have the right to use my personal time reasonably. You should at least respect me, shouldn’t you?”
The driver was speechless.
Gu Bei: “This behavior of yours makes me sick. I’m sure you’ve seen what your CEO does—have I interfered with her? Have I criticized her? Have I thrown a massive tantrum and refused to let it go?”
Led along by her three consecutive questions, the driver shook his head repeatedly.
“I have not!” Gu Bei looked the picture of integrity. “I gave her the right to choose to show my respect for her!”
The driver actually found this reasonable and nodded vigorously. He was a massive Beta; standing in front of Gu Bei, he blocked her entire view. Consequently, were it not for the familiar rose-scented pheromones, Gu Bei wouldn’t have known Shen Siying had appeared behind him.
“You want freedom?” Shen Siying’s ice-cold voice rang out.
The driver scrambled to the side, leaving enough space for Shen Siying’s entrance.
“Shen Siying?!”
Calling her “President Shen” was one thing, but now she was calling her by her full name in front of an outsider. Shen Siying understood Gu Bei less and less; her face turned green with anger.
