- Chapter 1 - Transmigration
“Second Senior Sister? Second Senior Sister!”
A buzzing noise persisted in her ears; someone was calling out something.
Qiu Yin’s head was splitting, but more tormenting than the chaotic thoughts was the sharp pain radiating from her heart, like a lingering residue after being cleanly pierced by a sharp blade.
She slowly opened her eyes. The tearing pain spread from her chest throughout her body. Her eyelashes fluttered. Before she could speak, she first spat out a mouthful of blood.
Perhaps this mouthful of blood gave her damaged body some kind of signal, as the pain slowly subsided.
Qiu Yin finally had the presence of mind to observe her current situation. All she saw was a light red gauze curtain hanging above the bed, swaying gently, with sachets dangling from the corners. She followed it upwards, noticing it was several meters high. It was a canopy bed.
Qiu Yin was instantly bewildered. She had just been eating barbecue on the street with friends, drinking more than eating, and ended up getting drunk at the stall. How did she wake up in a strange place, and why had her body hurt as if it had been run over by several cars?
Before Qiu Yin could check if she was alive or dead, a voice cried out in pleasant surprise: “Second Senior Sister, you’re finally awake!”
Qiu Yin was startled, realizing there was a second person in the room. Her gaze shifted down to a young girl, no taller than her waist, dressed like an ancient page boy. The girl had chubby cheeks and was guarding her bedside, nearly crying with joy upon seeing her wake up.
What did this little girl call her? Second Senior Sister?
Qiu Yin looked down at herself, clad in a perfectly draped, flowing red robe. The little girl misunderstood and quickly explained, “I changed Second Senior Sister’s clothes. The original one was torn by the Four-Tailed Fierce Beast. Second Senior Sister was too severely injured and kept unconscious, so I took the liberty to apply medicine to you.”
The little girl looked nervous, as if she hadn’t helped her undress and treat the wounds, but had done something wrong that would surely anger her, closing her eyes and waiting for punishment.
Qiu Yin, however, was stunned. Second Senior Sister, Four-Tailed Fierce Beast… wasn’t this the xianxia sadomasochistic yuri novel she had read recently? She remembered it vividly because she shared a name with the obsessively devoted female villain.
The novel was called The Forbidden Love of the Immortal Path. It told the story of the female lead, Lu Wansi, whose family was annihilated. Lost and nearly starving on the streets, she was picked up by the Jade Splendor Immortal, Nan Hanyu, during her travels and brought back to the primary immortal sect, Taiqing Sect, as her personal disciple. From then on, she began a journey of leveling up, fighting monsters, and having a painful, loving relationship with her icy Master.
As the Junior Sister of the sect, the female lead Lu Wansi was naturally showered with love and attention. Although her innate talent wasn’t the best, she successfully achieved a reversal on the cultivation path through hard work and Heavenly Dao’s opportunities, becoming the foremost Nascent Soul cultivator in the immortal realm, with countless admirers.
But the moment Lu Wansi met her Master, she fell for the moon-like Master, and her heart could hold no one else. Nan Hanyu was her White Moonlight.
Alas, Nan Hanyu was as bright as the moon, but also as cold. She was devoted solely to the Dao, unconcerned with mortal emotions. Lu Wansi could only feel heartbroken and distraught each time she received no response.
Clearly, Lu Wansi couldn’t suppress the pain of her secret crush and needed comfort and companionship. That’s where the utility character, Qiu Yin, stepped in.
The original Qiu Yin in the book was Lu Wansi’s Second Senior Sister, the stereotypical devoted female second lead. Extremely talented and notoriously arrogant and overbearing—feared by the whole sect—yet utterly gentle and solicitous toward her Junior Sister. She performed thankless tasks, climbed mountains of swords, descended into seas of fire, and even blocked heavenly lightning for her, all just for the beauty’s smile.
Tragically, Lu Wansi only considered her a backup, accepting the original host’s favors with a clear conscience. After venting her frustrations, she would immediately return to Nan Hanyu’s side to continue her unrequited devotion to her White Moonlight.
The original host naturally couldn’t remain without resentment. After failing to win the love she desired, she completely blackened, fell into the demonic path, and became a villain. The former genius girl became a demon lord, attempting to forcefully claim Lu Wansi, ultimately becoming a powerful emotional catalyst between the female lead and the White Moonlight.
The Qiu Yin in the book was ruthlessly pierced by ten thousand swords by the righteous female lead, leaving no remains.
Meanwhile, the White Moonlight Master finally moved her heart during the process of nearly losing the female lead. The eternal iceberg melted, and the two happily became Dao Companions, reaching the pinnacle of the Immortal Path.
And the “Four-Tailed Fierce Beast” mentioned by the little girl corresponded to the part where Lu Wansi first tentatively revealed her feelings to her White Moonlight Master, only for Nan Hanyu to be utterly cold and retreat into seclusion. Lu Wansi was left utterly heartbroken. During cultivation, she suffered a spiritual backlash and sustained minor damage to her spiritual meridian.
The original host was naturally beside herself with worry, searching everywhere for the legendary “Heartless Grass,” which could heal spiritual meridians and connect one to immortal bones. On the way, she was discovered by the fierce beast guarding the herb, the Four-Tailed Fierce Beast. Since her cultivation was no match, she was severely wounded, nearly having her heart pierced. She fled back covered in blood, not forgetting to protect the Heartless Grass with her remaining spiritual power.
The newly transmigrated Qiu Yin: “…”
Thinking of the original host’s dog-like devotion—crazed with love for the female lead and constantly sacrificing for her—and the desolate ending where she was pierced by ten thousand swords, Qiu Yin’s headache, which had just subsided, started up again.
The immediate priority was figuring out where the plot was. Qiu Yin held her forehead and asked, “Where is the Heartless Grass I brought back?”
The little girl seemed surprised that the Second Senior Sister’s first question wasn’t about Lu Wansi. She replied, “The Junior Sister took it.”
Although Lu Wansi was Nan Hanyu’s personal disciple and everyone’s Junior Sister, in front of the younger generation of ‘milk babies,’ she was still referred to as “Junior Sister Lu.”
“Junior Sister Lu, Lu Wansi?” Qiu Yin frowned. “You mean, while I was heavily wounded and unconscious, she trespassed into my cave dwelling and took the Heartless Grass directly?”
This was indeed the plot of the original book. The original host risked her life to protect the herb for Lu Wansi, but Lu Wansi merely asked the attending girl a couple of perfunctory questions, not caring about the original host’s condition, took the Heartless Grass, and immediately went to deliver it to Nan Hanyu.
The little girl shivered, frightened by Qiu Yin’s severe tone. She didn’t understand why the Second Senior Sister, who was always gentle towards Junior Sister Lu, was suddenly speaking so harshly, and why she used her full name instead of “Wansi.”
The Second Senior Sister was known for her bad temper in the sect. The little girl steeled herself and replied, “Y-yes. Junior Sister Lu said the Heartless Grass was originally a spiritual medicine that Second Senior Sister picked for her, so she, she…”
Qiu Yin laughed out of anger: “Who said I picked it for her?”
The little girl stammered, cautiously: “Wasn’t it? Everyone in the sect says so…”
“That’s a rumor!”
No, if she allows this once, it will happen again. Lu Wansi had only just faced her first rejection from Nan Hanyu, and she almost lost her life in the valley. Yet, the other person showed no gratitude, treating her cave dwelling as her own, coming and going as she pleased, taking whatever she wanted without a word, treating her as if she were dead.
If the backup phase starts, forget major or minor injuries; she won’t even have privacy. She’d die of anger before being pierced by ten thousand swords!
“When did this happen? How long have I been unconscious?”
“It happened this morning. Second Senior Sister, you’ve been unconscious for a full day.”
Qiu Yin got out of bed briskly and headed outside: “Where is she now?” Then she remembered she didn’t know the way and corrected herself: “Take me there.”
“Yes!”
Taiqing Mountain has five peaks. Hanging Moon Peak is the northernmost, and its slopes experience seasonal changes. Higher up, however, only silver-white can be seen; the ice and snow never melt year-round. The peak houses the main hall of Hanging Moon Peak, the residence of the Jade Splendor Immortal.
Although Nan Hanyu took disciples, she only offered guidance in cultivation. She ignored most of their daily affairs, merely guarding the snow on the mountaintop, attempting to pierce the path to Godhood with her sword. The disciples, therefore, kept their distance—until Lu Wansi was accepted into the Hanging Moon lineage.
“Is the Junior Sister at Master’s place again?” Qiu Yin recalled how Lu Wansi ran up to the peak every few days, more frequently than going home. “Her own cave dwelling has become a mere decoration.”
The little girl tried to smooth things over: “Junior Sister is waiting for the Jade Splendor Immortal to exit seclusion. She is alone on the peak; Junior Sister must be worried that the Immortal is lonely.”
“Before she joined the sect, Master didn’t seem to be unable to live without the full mountain of snow.”
Aside from the Jade Splendor Immortal and her three disciples, no one was allowed onto the peak. The little girl obediently stood guard outside while Qiu Yin ascended alone.
The Hanging Moon Grand Hall was shrouded in endless snow. In the misty snow, only the hall’s door could be seen. A slender girl in peach-colored clothing stood at the door, her hands red from the cold, anxiously knocking. It was the female lead, Lu Wansi.
Immortals can hear sounds from thousands of miles away. The original host was the genius among her generation, so Qiu Yin could hear the Junior Sister’s choked plea from a distance: “Master, please open the door. I know you are forcing your spiritual meridian to attempt Godhood, and I specially sought the Heartless Grass. Though it cannot completely eliminate the pain, it can at least help somewhat. I beg Master not to suffer in silence anymore!”
It must be admitted that, as the female lead of the book, Lu Wansi was indeed stunningly beautiful, with a face like peach blossoms. Her pitiful pleas were like morning dew on fallen petals, beautiful and tender. A knowing person would think she was offering a treasure to help, but an unaware person might think a young lady had been abandoned by a heartless man!
“I was only unconscious for a day, and the Junior Sister is already presenting borrowed flowers to the Buddha [taking credit for another’s work] to Master. It seems I, the Senior Sister, am not as considerate as the Junior Sister.”
Lu Wansi was startled and quickly turned around: “Second Senior Sister, why are you here?”
“Your words are too formal, Junior Sister,” Qiu Yin smiled. “We are both disciples of Hanging Moon Peak. If the Junior Sister can come, why can’t I?”
“Of course not.” Lu Wansi frowned, feeling that today’s Second Senior Sister was somewhat strange. The Second Senior Sister was usually sharp-tongued and overbearing, but she was always gentle toward her and deferred to her in everything—even picking the Heartless Grass, a spiritual herb that aids Nascent Soul cultivators, for her. Why was she now making her unable to reply?
Following Qiu Yin’s gaze, Lu Wansi looked at the pale-green spiritual herb in her hand. Her mind stirred. Second Senior Sister was severely wounded looking for the herb for her, only to wake up and find her here looking for Master. Could she be jealous?
Lu Wansi’s eyes welled up. She pretended to be wronged and said, “Second Senior Sister, you misunderstand. Master is angry with me and refuses to see me, forcefully entering seclusion. This is originally my fault.
Advancing from Nascent Soul to Godhood is fraught with danger, and even Master might make a mistake. I was too worried and directly took the Heartless Grass to rush here.
I know Second Senior Sister was seriously injured collecting the Heartless Grass for me. But compared to my minor, insignificant injury, Master needs it more. Wansi remembers Second Senior Sister’s kindness and will surely repay it in the future. I hope Second Senior Sister can understand.”
As the female lead of a novel specifically designed to torment the original host, this was naturally Lu Wansi’s own interpretation.
In fact, the current Nan Hanyu cared nothing for these romantic attachments. She had always been seeking the path to Godhood and simply didn’t want to be disturbed, which is why she specifically announced she was entering seclusion.
Qiu Yin quietly listened to Lu Wansi’s speech, sighing inwardly that she truly lived up to her role as the female lead who could make the original host hopelessly devoted. Tears came instantly, and she looked put-upon, like she was trying to settle a score. If the original host were here, she would surely back down in distress and apologize for being too harsh and hurting her Junior Sister’s feelings.
Too bad. The skin might be the same, but the new soul inside vowed never to be a simp.
Qiu Yin pitched her voice to be gentle and soft: “Junior Sister, you are the one who misunderstood.”
Lu Wansi’s eyes flashed. Sure enough, the Second Senior Sister was easy to placate.
She turned her head, stubbornly refusing to look at Qiu Yin, attempting to make Qiu Yin feel even more guilty. Then she heard her Second Senior Sister say: “The Heartless Grass, I didn’t pick it for you. Who spread the rumor and misled the Junior Sister? To recklessly discuss the personal disciple of the Peak Lord is lawless. I will handle this for you.”
Qiu Yin met Lu Wansi’s disbelieving gaze and changed her tone: “Or, did the Junior Sister just overthink things herself?”
“But a few days ago, when I suffered a spiritual backlash, Second Senior Sister clearly…” Lu Wansi’s rebuttal spun in her throat, getting stuck.
That’s right. Lu Wansi had never explicitly asked Qiu Yin for the Heartless Grass, but she had certainly hinted at it. After obtaining the herb, which the original host had risked her life for, she turned around and gave it to Nan Hanyu, all while maintaining a pretentious attitude that Qiu Yin was overthinking and she was forced to accept it.
Now, things were just perfect. Lu Wansi hadn’t explicitly asked, and the original host hadn’t explicitly said she was picking it for her. Therefore, if she took the Heartless Grass without a word, she was the one who overthought things.
So, Qiu Yin said innocently: “Didn’t Junior Sister herself say it was a minor, insignificant injury? I thought the Junior Sister was absolutely correct, so I didn’t take it to heart.”
Lu Wansi choked. The little Junior Sister, who was pampered by the entire sect, had never been so humiliated. She immediately retorted, “Then why did the Second Senior Sister search every mountain, fight a fierce beast beyond her level, and return soaked in blood? For what? For her own amusement?”
Just as her voice fell, the talisman on the door, covered with light snow, suddenly lit up. The moon patterns flowed, and the door opened with a muffled sound.
The boundless wind and snow on the peak poured into the doorway, whipping Qiu Yin’s blood-red robe. She peered inside, and through the sharp sound of the wind, she heard a cold, low female voice, even colder than the snow: “What is it?”
