After Transmigrating as the Supporting Female Lead, I Got My HE with the White Moonlight - Chapter 1
“Miss, your coffee.”
Gu Xiaoting took the cup from the waiter, set it down on a light gray coaster, tore open two packets of sugar and tossed them in, then began to stir unhurriedly with a spoon.
The rich aroma of coffee rose slowly with the steam. She took a light sniff, her expression unreadable. After a moment, she checked the time: 3:00 PM.
The person she was meeting was thirty minutes late.
Or rather, it was the person the original owner of this body had made an appointment with half a month ago.
Three days ago, Gu Xiaoting woke up to find she had transmigrated into an old-school, melodramatic romance novel. The scumbag male lead, Jiang Chengwei, had a “White Moonlight” in his heart that he had pined for for years. Unable to have her, he settled for the next best thing: keeping a body double.
That body double was the original owner of this body.
The original Gu Xiaoting had been deeply in love with Jiang Chengwei for years, even going so far as to willingly act as a substitute, mimicking every move of the White Moonlight just to earn a single glance from him. She had humbled herself to such an extent that she finally established a somewhat ambiguous relationship with him.
Just when she thought she could finally be with him, the White Moonlight returned to the country. To prove his devotion to his true love, the male lead kicked her to the curb. The original owner, consumed by unrequited love, blackened into the vicious female supporting character.
That was the plot of the first twenty chapters.
The following hundreds of thousands of words were almost entirely about how the original owner, as the villainess, acted as the ultimate obstacle—and ultimately the greatest “wingman”—on the path to the main couple’s Happy Ending.
Thinking of this, Gu Xiaoting could only laugh. She didn’t care for such plots and had dropped the book after reading the part where the villainess’s leg was broken by the scumbag.
Yet, the next morning, she woke up inside the book.
The watch ticked forward. At 3:05 PM, looking through the floor-to-ceiling window, Gu Xiaoting saw the scumbag walking toward the cafe from a distance.
To be fair, the scumbag had assets. He was the CEO of a family corporation—wealthy, decent-looking, and polite to the outside world. Toward the original owner, however, he was always “gentle yet cold.”
If the original owner wanted to see him, she had to book an appointment at least half a month in advance. The meeting was set for 2:30 PM, yet he had only just arrived after 3:00.
Gu Xiaoting looked away, tore open several more sugar packets, and emptied them into the cup. As she stirred, a man sat down across from her.
Before even settling in, he spoke impatiently: “What did you want to see me about?”
Gu Xiaoting rested her chin on her hand and pushed the coffee toward him, gesturing for him to try it.
Meeting her eyes, Jiang Chengwei dithered for a moment. He looked down at the cup; it was his favorite, black coffee. Thinking this was her usual fawning, he took a sip. “I told you, I’m busy. Don’t call me for no—Cough, cough! What is this? Why is it so sweet? Did they get the order wrong?”
Everyone who knew Jiang Chengwei knew he hated sweets. This coffee tasted like pure saccharine, thick with sugar, causing him to cough twice.
Jiang Chengwei looked at her with utter disbelief. Across the booth, the woman’s red lips curved into a bright, pleasant smile. She tilted her head slightly, her gaze sweeping over the coffee as if looking at trash.
“It’s not wrong. It’s for you.”
Jiang Chengwei frowned. “You…” He didn’t finish his sentence, setting down the cup of liquid sugar. “What do you want? Things are busy at the company. If there’s nothing else, I’m leaving. Don’t look for me in the future.”
As expected of someone dealing with a “substitute,” his words were incredibly blunt.
Gu Xiaoting smiled. “Nothing much. I just wanted to notify you: you’re dumped.”
She stood up. Her bright red stilettos clicked sharply against the marble tiles. She reached into her bag and pulled out a key ring with a small key and an access card. She twirled the keys once before tossing them casually onto the table.
“The keys are back. I’ve already moved my things out. Goodbye—and let’s never meet again.”
As her voice fell, she flashed him a bold, reckless smile. The bright afternoon sun spilled through the window, illuminating half her face. Her fair skin seemed to glow, making her look dazzlingly radiant in that instant. Her red lips were striking against her pale skin; she looked like a vibrant, blooming flower—bright, beautiful, and unconstrained.
This was a side of her he had never seen. Before, she had always clumsily imitated someone else, masking her natural spirit. Now, that spirit had re-emerged, fresh and vivid.
Jiang Chengwei was momentarily dazed. Snapping out of it, he sighed and reached out to grab her arm. “Stop making a scene. I don’t have time for your games.”
He grabbed thin air.
The woman dodged his hand, her eyes filled with mock surprise. “Why are you getting handsy?”
There were many people in the cafe, and she didn’t lower her voice. Several patrons looked over. Jiang Chengwei, unable to save face, felt his expression turn cold. He stood up and leaned in, whispering harshly: “If you want to throw a tantrum, do it at home. I’m busy. Don’t contact me for the next few months.”
He turned to leave when a voice called out behind him.
“Jiang Chengwei.”
Impatience flared in his brow. He knew it—another “hard to get” trick. He really shouldn’t have agreed to meet this woman; what a waste of time.
He turned his head. His “gentle” mask had been worn for so long he couldn’t take it off immediately. He was about to speak when his vision blurred, followed by a warm liquid splashing over his head and face.
“…”
Gasps erupted from the surrounding tables.
Jiang Chengwei was completely stunned. Sugary black coffee dripped down his wet hair, quickly becoming sticky. He stood there miserably, dazed by the sudden assault.
The culprit pulled several hundred-yuan bills from her wallet, placed them in the hand of the terrified waiter, then picked up the keys from the table and threw them at his head.
The temper she had been suppressing exploded, personifying “arrogance” to the fullest.
“Consider this coffee payback.”
Months ago, on the White Moonlight’s birthday, the original owner had finally managed to see Jiang Chengwei. But because his gift had just been rejected by the White Moonlight, he was in a foul mood. He had “accidentally” knocked over the coffee the original owner brought him, soaking her.
It had been in public, just like this. It had been black coffee, just like this.
Last time, in front of Jiang Chengwei’s subordinates, the original owner was mocked and belittled. This time, in front of all these strangers, it was Jiang Chengwei’s turn to taste that bitterness.
She had returned the favor exactly as it was given.
The sharp click-clack of her heels echoed as she walked out. Gu Xiaoting got into a private car waiting by the roadside and returned to the duplex apartment she had bought three days ago.
The original owner was also from a wealthy family but had lived at home until she became a “substitute” and moved into a villa Jiang Chengwei bought for her. Gu Xiaoting had no intention of going there.
Go back for what? There was nothing there but trash, and she wasn’t in the recycling business.
After checking her balance, Gu Xiaoting had simply bought this small riverside apartment outright. She dismissed the driver. Having stayed up for two nights and just dumped the scumbag, she felt refreshed and ready for a nap.
At 7:00 PM, Gu Xiaoting was woken up by a phone call. A chirpy voice on the other end didn’t give her a chance to speak, firing off a barrage of words: “Jiaojiao, you got dumped by Jiang Chengwei?! What happened? I heard that bastard asked you out this afternoon, picked a fight, and dumped you on the spot? Who does that grandson think he is?! Just wait, I’m going to his house right now to give him a piece of my mind!”
“No, that’s not necessary,” Gu Xiaoting said succinctly.
The female voice, which held a hint of excitement beneath the anger, paused in disappointment. “Oh… I thought I finally found a chance to curse him out properly.”
Gu Xiaoting finished her sentence: “Rong Bailu, where did you get your bad intel? I dumped him.”
Rong Bailu: “!!!”
“Wait for me! Give me thirty minutes, I’m coming to your house! No, wait, I’ll be there in ten! I’m turning the corner right now!”
Gu Xiaoting: “…”
She found it quite funny. Hearing the sound of a car engine through the phone, she couldn’t help but chuckle. “You were really going to his house to find him?”
“What’s so funny?” Rong Bailu asked, confused.
“Nothing,” Gu Xiaoting said, her voice still laced with laughter. “I sent my new address to your phone. Check it.”
Half an hour later, Rong Bailu burst in like a whirlwind. Seeing Gu Xiaoting, she lunged for a bear hug, her joy evident.
“Jiaojiao! You really dumped that bastard? You’re not lying to me this time, right?”
Gu Xiaoting used a glass to block the red-lipped kiss coming her way. “No PDA between girls, get off me. And when have I ever lied to you?”
Rong Bailu let go, her lipstick leaving a clear smudge on the glass.
She was giddy with excitement. “I didn’t believe them when they told me this afternoon. They said the bastard dumped you, and I spent the whole afternoon arguing with them. It made me so mad. But it’s fine now; they can’t win an argument against me anymore.”
As she spoke, Rong Bailu looked down at her phone to set the record straight.
Gu Xiaoting leaned against the wall, poured some red wine into a glass, and took a small sip.
“What?! These shameless people actually don’t believe it! They’re saying Jiang Chengwei dumped you because of someone? Bah, they have a death wish!” Rong Bailu’s voice rose uncontrollably as she scrolled through the group chat.
“Give it a rest, you’re giving me a headache.”
Rong Bailu was visibly sulking. Gu Xiaoting poured some wine into the glass with the lipstick print and handed it over, asking casually, “Because of who?”
Rong Bailu curled her lip. “Who else but that ‘certain someone’ who just returned to the country. They’ve already set a meeting for tomorrow. That bastard Jiang Chengwei told people himself.”
…Returned to the country? A meeting?
It sounded familiar.
Gu Xiaoting remembered—isn’t this the “White Moonlight” female lead from the original book? In the novel, she returned in Chapter 7, but it seemed the timeline had moved up. Could it be a chain reaction from her dumping Jiang Chengwei?
Rong Bailu thought for a moment and suddenly said, “No way, we have to go see what that vixen looks like. I don’t believe for a second she’s prettier than you. They said the bastard and the vixen are meeting at a cafe. I have the address… and the time. It’s tomorrow. You’re coming with me!”
She made the decision unilaterally. Gu Xiaoting watched her, lost in her own thoughts.
In truth, she was far more interested in this White Moonlight than in the scumbag male lead. After all, the original novel described her as exceptionally beautiful—if she weren’t, she wouldn’t have kept a playboy hooked for so long.
Gu Xiaoting’s eyes flickered.
“That White Moonlight… what’s her name?” she asked.
Rong Bailu flipped through her phone and pronounced each syllable clearly: “Her name is—Yan Muhuai.”
