After Transmigrating as the Vicious Female Supporting Character, I Ran Away While Pregnant - Chapter 8
The contract was signed. Director Wen ordered a large table of delicacies, but he didn’t stay to enjoy them with Mo Yueshuang. He waved his hand with a yawn: “It’s on me, eat as much as you like. I need to go back and catch up on sleep. The opening ceremony for the crew is on the 4th of next month; you know the rules, so I won’t say more.”
“Director Wen, I’ll walk you out.”
Mo Yueshuang stood up. Wen Tingzong waved her off: “No need, no need, walking back and forth is too much trouble. You eat your food, I’ll go back to my sleep.”
Despite his words, Mo Yueshuang walked him to the door anyway. As luck would have it, she ran right into Ji Ruodong, who was preparing to leave after finishing his own collaboration meeting.
Neither Mo Yueshuang nor Wen Tingzong noticed him at first. After Wen Tingzong left, Mo Yueshuang planned to call Chen Yue in for a meal before leaving, but she was stopped by Ji Ruodong.
“President Ji. What is… the meaning of this?”
Mo Yueshuang was blocked by Ji Ruodong. He pressed forward step by step until her back was against the wall with no way to retreat. Only then did Ji Ruodong brace his arm against the wall, looking from a distance like a beautiful “kabedon” move.
But Mo Yueshuang, caught in the middle of it, felt nothing but utter disgust. If this man weren’t a billionaire CEO who shouldn’t be trifled with, she really would have liked to throw a few punches at his nauseating “pig head.”
“Mo Yueshuang, you rejected me, yet here you are meeting a director in private. Your act of purity isn’t looking very convincing, is it?”
“President Ji, I think you’ve misunderstood.” Mo Yueshuang looked directly into Ji Ruodong’s eyes. They say one look at President Ji can ruin one’s life because his gaze is so captivating. Mo Yueshuang looked closely for a moment and only found her own reflection; she saw none of the so-called soul-stirring charm.
Mo Yueshuang reached out to push him away. Her soft female palm pressed against Ji Ruodong’s chest, but instead of making him move a single step, it made him mistakenly believe she was taking the opportunity to get close to him.
Inside the elevator, Li Sheng was holding Li Ran’s small hand. Li Ran followed closely beside her mommy, tilting her little face up to ask curiously: “Mommy, why does Uncle Xiao Guan’s doggie need surgery? Is it sick?”
“It’s not sick. But it’s growing up, and your Uncle Xiao Guan is afraid of accidental little lives, so he’s taking A’Fei to get a neutering surgery.”
“Mommy, why? What is a neutering surgery?”
“Because when a doggie grows up, it has a ‘heat’ period and might harass other doggies. Your Uncle Xiao Guan is afraid of trouble and worried about A’Fei’s health, so he’s taking him for surgery.”
“Mommy, what is ‘he—’?”
Before little Ranran could finish, Li Sheng scooped her up, intending to turn back.
She had seen Ji Ruodong. Until she was certain whether Ranran was his child, she didn’t plan on letting them meet.
Unfortunately, little Ranran, now in her arms, spotted Mo Yueshuang.
“Mama… Auntie Mo! Mommy, put me down, I see Auntie Mo.”
Ranran struggled in Li Sheng’s arms, kicking her little legs to get down. Li Sheng sighed; what is meant to happen will happen, and there is no dodging it.
After putting the little one down, she watched her shoot toward Mo Yueshuang like an arrow released from a bow.
With people approaching and a child present, no matter how much of a “domineering CEO” Ji Ruodong was, he couldn’t stand the embarrassment of being watched by onlookers.
He quickly withdrew his hand and adjusted his collar and tie. As Li Sheng walked closer, he finally recognized her, connecting her to the small figure in his memory.
“Are you… Li Sheng?”
Ji Ruodong was actually quite happy to see her: “When did you return to the country? Why didn’t you tell me? I would have come to pick you up.”
“President Ji is occupied with a myriad of affairs. For such a small matter, I thought there was no need to inform you.”
Li Sheng spoke in a calm tone. Ji Ruodong thought she was still dwelling on the events of years ago, and a trace of apology surfaced in his eyes: “Sheng-sheng, we grew up together. I truly think of you as my own younger sister. What happened back then was my fault; my words were too harsh and hurt your feelings. Now that you’re back, let Brother Ruodong treat you to a meal to apologize to our little A’Sheng, okay?”
“President Ji, I am an only child and have no siblings.” Li Sheng knew from the novel that the original Li Sheng had been infatuated with him since childhood, but she hadn’t realized their relationship was actually quite good. Judging by his warm, familiar manner and his lowered stance to coax her, he might truly have seen her as a sister.
Li Sheng could only sigh at how much “dog-blood” drama there was in wealthy families. She rejected his peace offering and turned to Mo Yueshuang: “Ms. Mo, what a coincidence. We meet again.”
Mo Yueshuang was still marveling at the fact that Li Sheng and Ji Ruodong knew each other and that their relationship seemed quite good. Hearing Li Sheng greet her, she snapped back to reality and returned the greeting with a smile.
“Hello, Ms. Li. I didn’t expect it to be such a coincidence to meet here either.” Especially in such an embarrassing situation; she didn’t know if Li Sheng would misunderstand her as someone trying to climb the social ladder.
Li Sheng knew the plot, so she naturally understood that Ji Ruodong was harassing and coercing Mo Yueshuang. Consequently, her gaze toward Mo Yueshuang held a bit more sympathy and admiration.
Li Ran grabbed Mo Yueshuang’s finger and shook it: “Auntie Mo, don’t just talk to Mommy. Look at me, I’m Ranran.”
Li Ran still wanted to call her “Mama,” but she had been lectured well by Li Sheng, so now she only dared to call her “Auntie Mo.”
Ranran’s voice caught everyone’s attention. Mo Yueshuang knelt down to be at eye level with her. She was very happy to see the “little angel,” and after a few lines of “child-talk,” the heart that had been irritable from Ji Ruodong’s harassment gradually steadied.
Mommy?
Ji Ruodong looked at the little “bean sprout” by their legs in disbelief. He dropped his gentlemanly facade, pulled Li Sheng aside, walked a few steps away, and asked: “Is that your child?”
“Yes.”
“When did this happen?”
“Five years ago, I found out I was pregnant and went abroad.” Li Sheng said it very casually, but Ji Ruodong immediately linked it to that incident back then. He felt shame, anger, and regret: “Sheng-sheng, I’m sorry!”
Five years ago, Li Sheng had suddenly declared to everyone like she had gone mad that she had fallen in love with him.
Since she was a sister from a fellow prominent family whom he had watched grow up, Ji Ruodong naturally couldn’t reject her like other women who threw themselves at him. He hinted and stated clearly that he only felt brotherly affection for her. But Li Sheng kept insisting she loved him and would marry no one else.
That day, after finishing a business meeting, he returned to the hotel and Li Sheng came looking for him. He used an excuse to slip out and went straight home.
Although he left two bodyguards there to protect her, those two bodyguards were killed, and Li Sheng’s whereabouts became unknown. When she eventually returned home, her expression had changed drastically, and shortly after, news came that she had gone abroad.
Looking at the current Li Sheng, her eyes were filled with cold detachment. The girl who was once lively, cheerful, and loved to laugh now looked at everything with indifferent unconcern, as if she had seen through life and death.
Ji Ruodong’s heart felt a dull ache. If he hadn’t hidden and left back then, if he hadn’t left her there alone, she wouldn’t have become like this.
Li Sheng didn’t know what Ji Ruodong was daydreaming about in front of her. Her gaze drifted and finally settled on Mo Yueshuang.
A Mo Yueshuang who had let down her guard, a Mo Yueshuang speaking “child-talk,” a Mo Yueshuang whose eyes sparkled with starlight when she smiled.
“President Ji, it’s getting late. I still need to take Ranran to see kindergartens.”
“Oh, alright.” When facing Li Sheng again, Ji Ruodong was like a wilted eggplant hit by frost.
Seeing Li Sheng and Ji Ruodong approach, Mo Yueshuang stopped her chat with Li Ran and stood up, looking at Li Sheng calmly.
The scene of Ji Ruodong harassing Mo Yueshuang earlier flashed through Li Sheng’s mind. Her gaze changed slightly, and she said in a none-too-friendly tone: “President Ji, we’re leaving.”
With that, she reached out her hand to Ranran. Ranran looked at Mo Yueshuang reluctantly.
Li Sheng said decisively: “Ranran, we’re going to see kindergartens. Say goodbye to your Godmother first. When Mommy has time, I’ll take you to Godmother’s house to play.”
Ranran had already learned what “Godmother” meant, but she didn’t quite understand why Li Sheng said it. However, Li Sheng had effectively allowed her to call her “Mama” (in a different form), which made little Ranran very happy.
She opened her little arms and hugged Mo Yueshuang’s leg: “Mama~ Ranran is going to see kindergartens now. When Ranran learns a lot and makes lots and lots of money in the future, I’ll buy Mama a Nona doll!”
Ji Ruodong looked at this touching “mother-daughter” parting scene in confusion. He turned his head and asked Li Sheng: “Your daughter has recognized Ms. Mo as her godmother?”
“Yes, Ranran likes Ms. Mo. And Ms. Mo likes Ranran very much too.”
“I see, that’s good then.”
No matter how he looked at it, Ji Ruodong felt a sense of disappointment. Out of respect for Li Sheng, he couldn’t force himself on Mo Yueshuang anymore; for the child’s sake, he had to give her some respect.
He had a distinct feeling of “the duck already in his mouth flying away.”
Mo Yueshuang, who had “happily become a mother,” was initially stunned, but she reacted quickly. Li Sheng had seen the scene from earlier and was helping her out of a bind, fearing that Ji Ruodong would harass her again after she left.
Grateful to Li Sheng and eager to leave, Mo Yueshuang didn’t care that there was still a table full of delicacies she hadn’t tasted. She called out to Li Sheng: “Let me go with you.”
Li Sheng turned back to look at Mo Yueshuang. It was true she was helping her out of a bind for Ranran’s sake, but that didn’t mean she wanted to bring this “tragic female lead” along with her.
“Mommy, Mommy~”
Little Ranran couldn’t wait. Her tiny head rubbed against Li Sheng’s neck, her soft “little lolita” voice begging her mommy to agree quickly.
Li Sheng had no choice but to concede: “Then I’ll trouble you, Ms. Mo.”
The three were about to leave. Before going, Li Sheng politely bid Ji Ruodong farewell: “President Ji, we’re leaving first.”
“Alright, be careful on the road, Sheng-sheng. Drive slowly.”
The atmosphere in the car wasn’t exactly awkward. At least Ranran was huddled close to Mo Yueshuang and felt very happy. Her little head was full of whimsical ideas, and she was sharing them all with Mo Yueshuang now.
Li Sheng hadn’t known her daughter could be this lively.
Arriving at the kindergarten Guan Tai had helped arrange, Li Sheng opened the back door and smiled helplessly: “Little Ranran, we’ve reached the destination. Please step out.”
Ranran tugged on Mo Yueshuang’s hand and asked Li Sheng: “Can Auntie Mo come out too? Is Auntie Mo coming with Ranran?”
Ranran knew Mo Yueshuang was a star and understood the logic that stars shouldn’t show their faces in public too often. So even though she really wanted Mo Yueshuang to accompany her, she still had to ask for Li Sheng’s and Mo Yueshuang’s opinions.
Li Sheng didn’t answer, waiting for Mo Yueshuang to speak.
Mo Yueshuang couldn’t bear to refuse; she smiled and nodded in agreement: “I’ll go with Ranran. Ranran, let go of my hand for a moment first, okay?”
Li Ran obediently let go. Mo Yueshuang took a mask out of her bag and put it on; this should cover enough to prevent her from being recognized as the actress Mo Yueshuang.
As Mo Yueshuang and Ranran stepped out of the car, Li Sheng somewhat awkwardly handed Mo Yueshuang a pair of sunglasses: “A gift from a friend, I haven’t used them yet.”
Author’s Note:
Ji Ruodong: My original “future wife” Mo Yueshuang and my original “devoted fangirl” Li Sheng are showing off their affection with a child right in front of me. I’m such a miserable “Domineering CEO.”
