After Transmigrating as the Villain’s Scummy Alpha "Dainty" Wife, My Escape Failed (GL) - Chapter 9
“My favorite is Momo. She’s young, energetic, and full of vitality.”
“As for the one I dislike most—” Jiang Ci intentionally drew out her words, teasing everyone’s curiosity. “Clumsy, has no bad intentions but always causes trouble; it’s hard not to suspect she’s doing it on purpose.”
The ferryman asked, “And who is this person—?”
Jiang Ci shrugged and pointed at the already petrified Chi Yuan. “My roommate, Chi Yuan.”
Chi Yuan’s mouth twitched. She felt incredibly wronged. When did I cause trouble? Everything I do is to protect you, Miss Villain!
Before she could get a word in, Jiang Ci continued, “And her looks are unreliable. A pair of flirtatious peach-blossom eyes, deep red thin lips—the classic ‘scumbag woman’ look. The type that dumps you right after marriage. You all must not be fooled by appearances.”
The cameraman timely panned to the bewildered Chi Yuan, giving her a huge facial close-up.
Chi Yuan felt stifled. Stealing a glance at the snickering Jiang Ci, her eyes darted around, and she suddenly pulled the other woman close.
“Teacher Jiang is just saying the opposite of what she feels. Clearly, last night she even praised my figure, and now she’s forgotten it in a heartbeat. Tell me, everyone, who is the real ‘scumbag’ here?”
Last night? Figure?
The eyes of the crowd, naturally extracting the keywords, lit up like searchlights. They stared at the intimate pair, their gossipy expressions impossible to hide.
Is this even allowed to be broadcast?
In a spot hidden from the camera, Jiang Ci secretly rolled her eyes at Chi Yuan. Using her body as cover, she quickly and heavily pinched Chi Yuan on her lower back.
“Hiss—” Her injury was caught off guard. Chi Yuan’s hand slipped from Jiang Ci’s shoulder, and she hunched over, clutching her back.
“My waist hurts…” Chi Yuan looked up while rubbing her back, only to find everyone staring at her with expressions full of… indescribable imagination.
??? What’s wrong?
Among them, Gu Meng’s expression was the most prominent: 30% breakdown, 30% surprise, and 40% “proud mother” smile.
Gu Meng: My ship is real! But I picked the wrong positions!
Wait, isn’t Sister Chi’s secondary gender an Alpha? How is she the ‘bottom’ one?
Could it be…
He looked at Jiang Ci and silently gave a thumbs up.
Damn, Jiang Ci is the most impressive after all. A ‘Top Omega,’ not to be underestimated.
Completely unaware of what he was hallucinating, Chi Yuan looked totally out of the loop. Meanwhile, Jiang Ci, fully catching his train of thought, slowly, slowly raised a hand to cover her face.
As expected, nothing good happens when I’m with Chi Yuan!
Jiang Ci explained: “In the kitchen yesterday, Chi Yuan bumped her waist. It hasn’t healed yet.”
Everyone realized: “Ohhh, so the waist was accidentally bumped.”
Jiang Ci: Looking at your faces, you seem quite disappointed.
Chi Yuan spoke up: “My favorite is Momo. I think she’s a very sunny and hardworking girl. The one I dislike most is Jiang Wan. Because—I’m jealous of her.”
The production crew, smelling a “catfight,” naturally wouldn’t let this go and pressed further: “Why jealous?”
“Because she’s simply too beautiful. It’s a kind of beauty that words cannot describe, you know? Every time I see her, I have hallucinations.”
Wang Wen smiled and nodded in agreement. “Yes, yes, I totally understand Chi Yuan’s feelings. Sometimes I feel that way too. Xiao Wan is exactly the kind of big beauty that hits my aesthetic preferences.”
Chi Yuan: No, we are not the same.
Jiang Ci looked at Chi Yuan with surprise. In those clear pupils, Chi Yuan could easily decode the meaning: Are you blind?!
Jiang Wan’s looks were those of a traditional beauty—gentle and soft, white skin, red lips, a palm-sized face, and cute “doe eyes.” When she smiled, she had the sweetness of a girl-next-door.
But to praise her as a “goddess” or “incomparable beauty” was surely excessive marketing. Jiang Ci carefully recalled Chi Yuan’s past lovers and girlfriends and realized they were all Jiang Wan’s type.
So she specifically goes for this look?
The crew, never one to miss a chance to stir the pot, egged on the ferryman to ask a sharp follow-up: “Because Jiang Wan’s looks are somewhat similar to Teacher Jiang’s, she’s always had the nickname ‘Little Jiang Ci.’ Does President Chi feel jealous of Teacher Jiang then?”
Everyone looked at Chi Yuan and Jiang Ci again to see how she would answer.
Jiang Ci was also waiting. Suddenly, Chi Yuan leaned in close. Her magnified, handsome face loomed so near that Jiang Ci’s heart skipped a beat.
Her evaluation of Chi Yuan’s “scumbag looks” was actually very accurate. The corners of Chi Yuan’s peach-blossom eyes naturally tilted up slightly, carrying an air of casual romance and flirtatiousness. They were so beautiful one couldn’t help but want to kiss them, to make those eyes hold only oneself.
Jiang Ci swallowed and looked back, refusing to show weakness. She saw Chi Yuan slowly curl her lips.
Chi Yuan: “But Teacher Jiang’s beauty is the kind that makes it impossible for people to feel jealous.”
She took a step back and shrugged. “I’ll just stick to being jealous of Jiang Wan.”
Having finished answering the questions, they headed toward the opposite shore in the narrow awning boat.
On the shimmering lake, a few birds skimmed the water, bringing a slight breeze. But for the scorching weather, this tiny breeze did nothing to relieve the heat. The rickety boat roof was baked by the sun, and the four people squeezed inside felt like they were suffocating in a sauna.
They finally reached the shore, but it was still a five-kilometer walk to the supermarket. Under the blazing sun, walking on the highway, the four of them felt like salted fish being repeatedly grilled.
Chi Yuan held up a parasol and asked Wang Wen, “Was it like this in the last season of Home of Peaches and Plums?”
Of the nine people, Wang Wen was the only “veteran” from the crew.
Wang Wen: “Different. Last season was in the mountains across the island. There were peach forests there too, but from the wooden cabin down to the supermarket, you had to walk for an hour.”
Gu Meng: “That’s brutal? When I watched the show before, I thought the production team would drive you.”
Wang Wen waved his hand. “All mountain roads, no cars, pure walking. Why do you think I’m the only veteran this season? The others weren’t willing to come back.”
Chi Yuan listened to them chat, but she suddenly noticed Jiang Ci’s arm, which was exposed to the sun and turning red. There were dense red spots on it, like a rash. Her heart tightened, and she walked over to grab her arm.
“Are you having an allergy?”
Jiang Ci glanced at it as if it were normal and said plainly, “A little. Probably because the sun is too strong today. I’ll just apply some medicine when we get back.”
Chi Yuan: “This doesn’t look like ‘a little’ serious.”
Jiang Ci: “I’m really fine. Aren’t we almost there?”
Chi Yuan yanked the cooling sleeves off her own arms and tossed them to Jiang Ci. “Put these on.”
“Hurry up. If you pass out from the sun later, I’m not carrying you.”
Jiang Ci’s cheeks were flushed with heat and sweat, making her whole face look as brilliant as the sunset. She gave Chi Yuan a beautiful smile and carefully put on the cooling sleeves.
Chi Yuan rubbed her nose. “That smile is a foul.”
Jiang Ci heard her and blinked in response. “Didn’t you tell me to be gentler to you? Why are you unhappy now that I’m smiling at you?”
“I’m not unhappy,” Chi Yuan scratched her itchy earlobe—a small habit she had whenever she got nervous—and muttered in a low voice, “It would be better if you only smiled like that at me.”
“What?” Chi Yuan’s last sentence was almost a whisper. Jiang Ci wanted to hear it clearly, but it was swept away by the wind, barely audible.
“Nothing.” Chi Yuan took a few steps forward, pressing down the heartbeat in her chest.
Beauty is a trap. Beauty is a trap.
In the peach forest on the other side, five busy figures were moving through the trees.
The peach forest took up two-thirds of the island—a vast area. Countless peach trees rose from the ground, and the harvest scene was spectacular. By the time the guests arrived, many farmers were already picking, and the baskets on the ground were packed full.
The peach trees weren’t tall, with wide, spreading canopies. The peaches hidden among the leaves were rosy and large, their weight bending the branches. Occasionally, a few unripe green peaches rolled into the grass; if collected and juiced, they made a unique summer drink.
Jiang Wan carried a basket, stepping on the soft soil. She felt her heels growing weak, and large beads of sweat trickled down her cheeks.
The crew’s requirement for the guests was to fill one basket of peaches and then bring them to the collection point to be weighed and quality-checked. The guest who picked the highest number of qualified peaches would have the chance to get a “Village Head Bonus Vote.”
For veteran farmers, this was child’s play, but for novice guests, it was quite difficult. Half an hour passed, and Jiang Wan had only picked three. The goal felt worlds away.
“Young lady, this one isn’t ripe yet, you can’t pick it,” a farmer nearby kindly told Jiang Wan.
Jiang Wan frowned, feeling impatient. She wasn’t actually a farmer; filling one basket was enough, why all the fuss? But looking at the cameraman behind her recording everything, she could only hold her breath and move to the next tree.
Just then, she happened to run into Momo, who was returning with a full load.
“Momo, did you pick all of these?” Jiang Wan stared at the basket overflowing with peaches on the other’s back.
Momo nodded and looked at Jiang Wan’s harvest. “Uh… Sister Wan-Wan, you have quite a small amount there.”
Jiang Wan: Yes, so small there’s not even enough to cover the bottom.
The contrast was tragic.
“The sun is a bit strong, and my allergy is acting up again. After picking a few under the tree, my head started spinning. What should I do? There’s still so much left. I don’t know when I’ll finish the task.” Jiang Wan’s acting was flawless—innocent and sighing with sadness. She even showed Momo the red marks on her arm.
Those were actually marks she had scratched herself after being bitten by insects.
“Ah, Sister Wan-Wan, that looks quite serious,” Momo said with a face full of worry.
Jiang Wan chuckled inwardly, then lowered her head sadly. “Yes, and I have so few peaches. I definitely can’t finish the task alone. Momo, can you help me?”
“Of course!” Momo patted her chest and firmly took the only three peaches out of Jiang Wan’s basket, placing them into her own.
“Sister Wan-Wan, you go rest quickly. I’ll help you transport these peaches over.”
Jiang Wan: ???
No, wait… why are you stealing my peaches??
According to normal logic, shouldn’t you offer to share your peaches with me or help me pick more?
“Momo, you…”
“Sister Wan-Wan, no need to thank me. We’re all sisters-in-misery on this show; helping each other is only right.”
Before Jiang Wan could speak again, Momo had already sprinted off toward the collection point.
Jiang Wan: Come back! Give me back my three peaches!
She watched the girl run away helplessly. Her vision went dark—this time, she really was dizzy.
Author’s Note:
Chi & Jiang: Flirting with each other, seeing who can out-flirt the other.
Jiang Wan: I want my peaches.
