After Transmigrating, I Became the Most Cowardly Kid (GL) - Chapter 6
At the entrance of Yixin Supermarket, Tang Chen rushed back and was satisfied to see his underling still faithfully holding the bubble tea.
“You guys head back. I’m going to find the boss.”
Tang Chen took a call and walked toward a nearby cat cafe.
A cool, black motorcycle was parked outside the shop. He glanced at it and pushed the door open with one hand.
Shang Han was holding a Ragdoll cat. The cat was lazily curled up, its beautiful sea-blue eyes looking at the new arrival.
Tang Chen placed the bubble tea on a nearby table. Shang Han paused her hand stroking the cat’s fur and took out the cheese foam and fruit tea from the bag.
The transparent plastic cup held the brightly colored fruit tea. Fresh, tempting strawberry pulp and ice cubes floated up and down with her movements. Droplets of water condensed on the outside of the cup, rolling down the sides in succession with a gentle shake.
“How do you drink this?” Shang Han picked up the small cup containing the cheese foam and frowned slightly.
“I got it.” Tang Chen proactively took the cups, tore open the plastic seal on the fruit tea cup, and then poured the creamy cheese foam inside.
After pouring it, he realized again that this was his ex-girlfriend’s favorite bubble tea order. No wonder he did it so smoothly.
Crap.
So annoying!
Tang Chen felt irritated, but his hands moved quickly, and he steadily placed the perfect-looking cheese foam tea in front of Shang Han.
Shang Han took a sip. The cheese and cream blended into an indescribably mellow flavor, mixing with the refreshing, natural strawberry fruit tea, and her mood seemed to lift instantly.
It was indeed very good.
Shang Han took a couple more sips, put down the cup, and saw Tang Chen trying to suppress a laugh. She asked, “Did you find a new girlfriend? Are you that happy?”
“No… no.” Tang Chen pulled a napkin from the table, looking utterly serious and proper, “Boss, maybe you should… wipe your mouth?”
A clear line of pale-yellow foam was left on her lips. Shang Han felt the dampness on her mouth, took the tissue, wiped her lips, and didn’t say anything.
Tang Chen sat down next to her and asked, “Boss, what is your relationship with Chi Zhihuai?”
“No relationship,” Shang Han stroked the Ragdoll cat’s head. “Don’t spread rumors.”
Tang Chen made a zipping motion over his mouth, indicating that he would keep the secret.
The air suddenly grew quiet. The elegant cat stretched, suddenly jumped out of Shang Han’s arms, and walked gracefully to drink water.
Shang Han dusted her pants, brushing off the three hairs the cat shed, then stood up and gulped down the remaining bubble tea.
It was the first time Tang Chen had seen someone drink bubble tea with the fervor of chugging a beer. He was stunned for two seconds, then fawned and clapped: “Impressive!”
Shang Han gave him a side-eye, wiped her mouth twice, picked up her helmet, and said toward the counter, “I’m leaving. I’ll bring you customers if I can.”
The shop owner, who was squatting under the counter feeding a cat, popped his head up, his eyes curved like crescent moons, and he said sweetly, “Mhm, goodbye, little beauty.”
“…” Tang Chen looked at the shop owner’s fluffy head, his mind flashing “666.”
Amazing, truly damn amazing. If anyone else had called the boss “little beauty,” their arm would probably be broken by now.
Tang Chen finished his internal monologue and followed Shang Han out.
“Where are you going?” Shang Han put on her helmet and swung her long leg over the motorcycle.
“Back to school to pass the time,” Tang Chen’s face was full of envy. “Boss, are you going for a ride again?”
Shang Han fastened the buckle, lowered her gaze, and said, “I’m going back to school.”
“…” Tang Chen thought he was hearing things. “Back to school?”
Shang Han looked up at him: “You have a problem with that?”
Tang Chen quickly shook his head: “No problem at all, no problem.”
“Mhm, I’m going.”
Shang Han pulled down her helmet visor, started the motorcycle, and drove away.
After dismounting the bike, Shang Han held her helmet with one hand and straightened her hair in the rearview mirror.
Entering the teaching building, she placed her helmet in her Class Six locker and walked directly to the back door of Class Seven.
Huh? She’s not here?
Shang Han changed her position but still didn’t see that familiar small ponytail.
She checked the time; class was over in three minutes.
Pursing her lips, Shang Han leaned against the wall. When the subject teacher finished class and walked out, she stepped directly into Class Seven and knocked on the only empty desk in the classroom, asking, “Where is the person who sits here?”
Chen Qin was busy scribbling notes. Hearing the commotion, she subconsciously looked up and gasped in shock.
What was going on?! Her deskmate said Shang Han was only “passing by” last time, so why was she here again?!
She wavered for two seconds between betraying her deskmate and maintaining her integrity, then weakly said, “S-she went to the infirmary.”
Shang Han paused for two seconds upon getting the answer, then turned and walked out.
The moment she left, Chen Qin was instantly surrounded by classmates.
“What exactly is the relationship between Chi Zhihuai and Shang Han?”
“I’m dying of curiosity, Qinqin, tell me quickly.”
“Is it just me, or does Shang Han seem to have no malice toward Chi Zhihuai?”
…
Chen Qin was getting a headache from all the questions. She covered her head and stood up, saying, “I… I don’t know either!”
But she was genuinely worried about her deskmate. Chi Zhihuai was fragile and weak, unable to beat Shang Han even when healthy. Now with a stomach ache, she certainly stood no chance!
Chen Qin took a deep breath, bravely ran out of the classroom, and followed her.
Shang Han was walking briskly down the hallway. Students nearby subconsciously stepped aside. After she walked past, they all gathered together and whispered.
In the midst of the noise, Shang Han pushed open the infirmary door. Bypassing the questioning school doctor, she went straight to the resting area behind the screen.
On the pristine white sheet, the girl in the neat school uniform was lying on her side, her legs curled up under the thin blanket, like a child lacking security.
Shang Han subconsciously looked at the IV pole nearby; there were no bags hanging on it.
She was just sleeping.
Shang Han felt inexplicably relieved. She turned to the school doctor and made a “shush” gesture, then walked up to Chi Zhihuai.
A pale hand was resting by her cheek. The room was a bit warm, and a few strands of sweat-dampened hair clung to her forehead.
Shang Han glanced at the window, which was already wide open, and reached out to pull the thin blanket down slightly.
Behind her, Chen Qin, who had stealthily followed, cautiously poked her head in and happened to see this scene.
!!!
Oh my god! Shang Han is lifting her deskmate’s blanket! Is she going to beat her deskmate up next?!
Chen Qin’s eyes widened in terror. She stared intently at Shang Han, but then heard light footsteps approaching.
Someone walked out from behind the blue privacy screen. Chen Qin quickly ran out the door, seeing the hem of a white lab coat as she left.
Oh, so the school doctor was in there, too.
Chen Qin relaxed and hurried back toward the classroom to the sound of the warning bell.
In the infirmary, Shang Han followed the school doctor to the desk and saw an opened cup of mixed-grain porridge on it.
She asked in a low voice, “What’s wrong with that student?”
The school doctor replied, “She ate ice cream without eating lunch, which gave her a stomach ache.”
Shang Han paused, turned her head to look toward the screen, and remained silent.
Suddenly, the metal bed behind the screen creaked. She withdrew her gaze and immediately turned and walked out.
On the bed, Chi Zhihuai turned over and completely kicked the thin blanket off her lower legs.
It was an hour later when she woke up. Chi Zhihuai groggily glanced at the clock and shot up from the bed.
No way. She slept through two entire classes in one go?
Chi Zhihuai quickly got out of bed. The school doctor heard the movement and came over to ask, “Feeling better?”
“Mhm! Thank you.” Chi Zhihuai pulled five yuan out of her pocket. “Thank you for the mixed-grain porridge.”
The school doctor smiled: “No need. Keep it for lunch, and don’t forget to eat again.”
After some friendly insisting, the school doctor tucked the money back to her. Chi Zhihuai had no choice but to take the money and return to the classroom.
This period was self-study. She slipped into the classroom. The homeroom teacher on duty motioned for her to quickly return to her seat, suggesting Chen Qin had already asked for leave for her.
Chi Zhihuai obediently sat down. Chen Qin pushed five test papers toward her, with a sticky note listing today’s homework attached to the top.
“Thank you,” she whispered, then looked at the sticky note.
Four subject workbooks, five test papers, Chinese text copying and memorization… and two English essays!
Chi Zhihuai couldn’t believe her eyes. Was the teacher assigning homework or preparing a way for her to die?
After two seconds of shock, she suddenly realized that tomorrow was Saturday, and this was the weekend homework.
Wow, a long-awaited holiday.
Chi Zhihuai’s mood fluctuated but ultimately soared.
Her deskmate then pushed over her chemistry and math class notes. She took them and quickly copied them, marking the few parts she didn’t understand, planning to ask Chen Qin after class.
After she finished copying, Chen Qin looked at her and pushed over a strip of paper.
[Are you and Shang Han really not feuding? I saw her lift your blanket right in front of the school doctor QAQ]
Chi Zhihuai: “???”
She was completely bewildered. Had her charm already become too much for Shang Han to handle?
She couldn’t help but picture Shang Han rushing into the infirmary, pulling off her blanket, and her eyes sparkling.
“…”
That was kind of scary!
But thinking logically, she was being so low-key now; what kind of trait could attract someone to lift her blanket in broad daylight?
Chi Zhihuai’s expression changed several times. She decided this must be a misunderstanding.
Although the misunderstanding was witnessed by Chen Qin herself…
Looking at it from another angle, this could be a topic of conversation with “ZZZ.”
Chi Zhihuai rubbed her hands. Yes, yes. She could harass “ZZZ” again tonight.
She worked hard to catch up on the missed classwork during the self-study period. Chi Zhihuai packed her backpack, eagerly waiting for school to end, throwing all thoughts of homework to the wind.
She was definitely going to play hard when she got home today!
…She was going to get past level five hundred in her match-three game no matter what!
Chi Zhihuai felt she was truly ambitious now.
She casually opened her Chinese book to pretend to read, then suddenly remembered the Chinese teacher saying there would be a dictation exam next week.
In previous Chinese exams, she hated the classical poetry dictation questions the most because she couldn’t answer a single one, couldn’t even make them up.
But now that she listened in class and copied the poems afterward, she suddenly felt that dictation wasn’t so difficult anymore.
It wasn’t just Chinese; it was the same for other subjects. She used to be annoyed whenever she ended up in the last exam room. Sometimes, she’d get motivated and think about studying hard to improve her grades, but she couldn’t understand anything when she opened the textbook, so she gave up and played games instead.
Now that she had a foundation, she listened carefully in class and did homework to reinforce the knowledge. Although studying was tiring, it gave her a sense of accomplishment.
If only she had studied hard all along…
Chi Zhihuai shook her head. No use dwelling on it. There were no “if onlys.” Better to focus on the present.
The school bell rang, and Chi Zhihuai’s eyes lit up. She quickly shoved her Chinese book into her backpack.
Chen Qin next to her hesitated, then said, “Deskmate, I’ll walk out with you.”
Chi Zhihuai’s father usually picked her up after school, so she generally walked alone. However, with the goal of strengthening her relationship with Chen Qin and copying her homework for answers, Chi Zhihuai nodded instantly: “Sure!”
The two walked out side-by-side with their backpacks. Chi Zhihuai’s former deskmate and the girl behind her ran over, joining her on the other side, saying, “Huaihuai, what exactly is going on with you and Shang Han?”
Chi Zhihuai blinked, acting innocent: “Nothing much.”
“But she today…”
Her former deskmate recounted what happened during the afternoon break. Chi Zhihuai listened, a stream of question marks popping up in her head.
The original owner didn’t even know what Shang Han looked like. What exactly happened that made Shang Han so concerned about her? And to specifically inquire about her whereabouts?
Chi Zhihuai walked two steps and suddenly froze.
This change happened exactly after she transmigrated.
So, could it be related to the wall collapse?
