After Transmigrating, I Gained a Wife - Chapter 10
Throughout the meal, Wen Liang felt he was witnessing a masterclass in devotion. His Master was acting like a total “lapdog,” serving soup and picking up food for the Mistress, constantly asking if it tasted good and promising to improve the recipe if it didn’t…
Master has taken all the chores upon herself, hasn’t she noticed? Since ancient times, women have often been regarded as having lower status—though he personally did not agree with that view.
Seeing Master act this way, he felt it was actually quite right. Without a mother’s ten months of pregnancy, he wouldn’t even exist; therefore, women—especially one’s wife and mother—should be protected and loved more.
Master was truly a remarkable person; he felt himself growing just by being around her. “Which dish did you like best?” Wen Liang turned and asked his wife.
Bai Ting was caught off guard. “Um? That was sudden, Husband.”
“They… they were all very delicious.”
…
Wen Liang: “If you like them, I’ll have the family cook make them for you.”
Luo Yan watched Wen Liang “get it” and curled her lips into a smile. “I’m afraid your cook won’t be able to replicate these flavors. If they want to learn, there’s a tuition fee, you know.”
Wen Liang froze. It was true. “How much is the fee, Master? I’ll have my cook come to learn.”
Father and Mother Luo internally gave their son a thumbs-up!
Nice try, kid, but I can’t tell you that easily, or how will I make money?
“I’m afraid I don’t have time at the moment. I’m preparing to start a small business at the market to earn some money.”
“Oh?” Father Wen spoke up. “If Master Luo wants to do business, I have a vacant shopfront I can lend you.”
Sweet! A shopfront delivered right to my door!
“The conditions?”
Father Wen: “I can lend it to Master Luo for six months free of charge. After six months, Master Luo can choose to continue renting it or buy it outright.” By helping Luo Yan, he felt more at ease regarding Luo Yan’s guidance for his son’s imperial exams.
Luo Yan was overjoyed, though she understood Father Wen’s intentions. In that case, she naturally accepted. “Then I thank you, Uncle Wen.”
After the meal, Mother Luo took over the burden of cleaning up, while Luo Yan remained to continue the conversation.
The lunch had lasted quite a while. Having sat for so long, Hanxue felt her body growing sore and exhausted. Watching Luo Yan interact with the Wen family, she felt it wouldn’t be right to just leave.
When she truly couldn’t hold out any longer, Hanxue reached out and gently tugged on Luo Yan’s clothes.
Noticing the movement, Luo Yan looked at her wife tenderly. Her wife’s face was somewhat pale, and her other hand was resting on her waist.
I was negligent; sitting for this long must be very hard for her. Seeing her wife enduring the discomfort made her heart ache.
Luo Yan squeezed the hand that was tugging her clothes and gave it a rub, flashing a sweet smile at her wife. “Madam, why don’t you take Lady Bai to the room for a chat? Don’t just sit here in a daze.”
Husband really is attentive to notice my discomfort. “Alright. Lady Bai?”
Bai Ting: “Okay.” Why does this feel a bit mysterious?
Luo Yan didn’t let go of her wife’s hand; they stood up together. “I need to go to the room too, to grab something.”
Luo Yan stopped at the door, feeling she should apologize to Lady Bai. “Lady Bai, I apologize for the deception. My wife is a bit tired, so I thought she should rest in the room. You can rest with her for a bit, and I’ll call you when it’s time to go.”
Bai Ting: “No need to apologize. I’ll go chat with Lady Li then.” Looking at it this way, Master Luo really pampers Lady Li.
Luo Yan: “Thank you, Lady Bai. Just wait a moment while I grab something.”
Bai Ting: “Alright.”
Luo Yan led her wife inside. Once she was sure they were out of Lady Bai’s sight, she swept her wife up in a bridal carry and continued toward the bed.
Li Hanxue was startled by the sudden move, but once Luo Yan held her steady, she instinctively wrapped her arms around Luo Yan’s neck.
“Next time, don’t just endure it, okay? Tell me directly,” Luo Yan said.
“Mhm.” She had used too much energy just to hold herself together; she barely had the strength to speak now.
“Are you sleepy?”
“No, just tired and uncomfortable from sitting too long.”
Luo Yan placed her on the bed. “Lie down and rest well. Have a chat with Lady Bai.”
“Okay.”
They looked into each other’s eyes. This time, her wife didn’t look shy. Luo Yan gave her a kiss on the lips before picking up her brushes and paper to head back out.
…
Husband kissed me again! And… and… even used… her tongue. How wicked. By the time she reacted, she only saw her husband’s departing silhouette.
If Luo Yan hadn’t come out when she did, Bai Ting would have felt awkward about going in. Seeing Luo Yan emerge with the stationery, she realized she had misunderstood the “grabbing something” part.
“Lady Bai, go ahead and chat with my wife.”
Bai Ting nodded and entered the room.
That afternoon, Luo Yan and Father Wen finalized the details for the shop. Luo Yan wrote up an agreement (similar to a modern contract), and both she and Father Wen signed and left their thumbprints.
Father Wen found himself becoming more and more interested in the young Master Luo. His intuition told him that Master Luo would surely be a business genius as well.
Each kept a copy of the agreement. According to Father Wen, the shop wasn’t small. She could start by selling pastries; after she inspected the site, she’d see if she could sell milk tea there as well.
Wen Liang ran into several obstacles while painting. Luo Yan tried to guide him indirectly so he could figure it out himself. Seeing the “I get it now!” expression on Wen Liang’s face, Luo Yan knew he understood. However, painting well wasn’t easy; it would require much more practice.
Luo Yan: “Take the problems you’ve solved and redraw them when you get back.” She looked at him and continued, “Keep all the paintings you do. Bring them all together once you’ve finished the assignment.”
Wen Liang didn’t understand the purpose of this request, but he figured Master had her reasons. “Understood, Master.”
Luo Yan: “Mhm. Tomorrow, bring the books you’re studying. I’ll start helping you review tomorrow.”
“Yes, Master!” Wen Liang looked at her with a beaming, joyful face.
Luo Yan’s lip twitched. Wen Liang is smiling like a total idiot.
Father and Mother Wen kept glancing toward Luo Yan and Wen Liang. Seeing Luo Yan’s unique teaching style that allowed their son to grasp principles so quickly, they felt deep admiration. She truly is like a deity reincarnated!
Mother Wen was even more excited, looking at Father Wen with immense satisfaction: Master Luo is truly incredible!
Father Wen caught her look and returned it with equal enthusiasm.
: Mhm, incredible indeed!
Later that evening, Father Wen felt it was getting late and it was time to leave. “We shall head back. Brother Luo, we will come to disturb you again another time.”
Father Luo: “Of course, you must!” Father Luo felt Brother Wen was a good man who knew when to push and when to yield—far better than the people in his own clan.
When Luo Yan went to call Lady Bai, she found that the two women had hit it off remarkably well. The rain had stopped, and the roads were damp; the air felt fresh and oxygen-rich, as if the world had a new spirit.
Not long after the Wen family left, Boss Pu arrived.
Boss Pu: “Is this Luo Yan’s home?”
Who is it? More visitors? I’m right in the middle of preparing warm milk for the wife.
“It is.” Luo Yan stepped out of the kitchen. “Boss Pu! It rained today, why did you still come?”
Boss Pu: “The rain wasn’t heavy at noon, so I sold wontons for a bit. I used your recipe and the remaining ingredients. I ended up selling out of everything! That has never happened before, so I closed up shop and hurried over here.” He had made quite a bit of money today, so he had bought some gifts to bring along.
“I see.”
Boss Pu: “I was thinking I’d learn from you today and start selling properly tomorrow. If it’s okay, I agree to all the terms you mentioned before.” Given today’s results, agreeing to Luo Yan’s terms would only make him more money than before.
“No problem then. Come, let’s get started.”
Boss Pu beamed like a sunflower. “Great!”
Luo Yan introduced him to her parents. Mother Luo stayed to help with the stove. Emmm, Father Luo’s job was… supervision.
Every time Boss Pu put a batch in the pot, Luo Yan pointed out the crucial details. After seven or eight bowls, he had it down. “Boss Pu learns fast. You can start officially tomorrow.”
Boss Pu looked at Luo Yan happily and nodded.
Mother Luo wanted to invite Boss Pu for dinner, but he had to rush back to buy ingredients, so he couldn’t stay.
Luo Yan wrote out a list of the necessary ingredients for him, fearing he might forget something. She didn’t write out the specific process, as she had already explained the basics to him.
Before leaving, Boss Pu ate a bowl of the wontons he had made himself; the rest were left for dinner. Luo Yan saved a bowl she made for her wife and had one herself. Mother Wen (Luo) had one, and Father Luo finished off the rest.
“Father, Boss Pu’s place will likely be too busy to handle in a few days. Your current wages aren’t much, so I was thinking…”
Father Luo: “You want me to go help Boss Pu?”
“Yes, Father.”
Father Luo: “It’s not out of the question; manual labor isn’t a long-term solution either. Let me know once you’ve finalized everything.” It’s still early days yet.
“Alright, Father.”
When she brought the wontons into the room, she saw her wife reading her books. Their eyes met as she walked in.
Li Hanxue: “Wontons?” She could smell them from a distance.
“Yes. Boss Pu came by, he’s already left.”
Li Hanxue: “He’s gone already? Why didn’t you tell me?” A guest was here and Husband didn’t even call me.
“Because I care about you!” Luo Yan said dotingly.
Li Hanxue: “…”
“Come now, eat the wontons.”
Li Hanxue took the bowl and started eating in small bites. She didn’t want to talk to her husband, even if… even if it was because she “cared” about her. Hmph~ I’m pouting~
Luo Yan sat thick-skinned next to her wife, watching her eat. Each bite and sip of broth was so cute.
After her wife finished and Luo Yan cleared things up, she brought the warm milk into the room.
Her wife saw it and hurriedly said, “I’m full, I can’t eat another thing.”
“It’s milk, not wontons.”
Li Hanxue: “I’m still not drinking it. I just had a lot of soup.”
“Just two sips? I warmed it up.” Luo Yan blinked and looked at her wife expectantly.
Li Hanxue gave in immediately and took two sips of the milk. Then, she watched as her husband specifically turned the bowl to the exact spot where she had sipped… and continued drinking…
…!
