After Transmigrating, I Gained a Wife - Chapter 7
Wen Liang: “Master, you really are different from everyone else.” Other teachers usually only teach if they’re getting paid upfront.
Luo Yan: “Others?” Hahaha, it would be boring if everyone were the same. “You must have your own way of doing things. You can use other people’s methods and words as a reference, but never copy them exactly!”
Wen Liang: “Master is right.” To copy exactly is to lose one’s own mind.
Luo Yan: “Wen Liang, in life, one must have ‘great love’ (altruism). If something benefits many people, you can strive for it. But in matters of self-interest, you must never harm others!”
Wen Liang: “I will remember this.”
A student worth teaching. Luo Yan continued: “No rush on the homework. Take my painting first to copy and contemplate. If you have questions, come ask me.”
Wen Liang: “Yes, Master.”
After their chat, Luo Yan and Wen Liang moved everything into the courtyard. Having villagers walking back and forth outside made things a bit inconvenient.
After everything was moved, Luo Yan let Wen Liang continue his studies on his own. She, however, ran off to huddle next to her wife.
Luo Yan: “Wife, wait a moment. I’m going to make something delicious for you.” Although she didn’t drink tea, she loved milk tea! Her good disciple had brought tea leaves, which was perfect for making it. Ah~ I can finally drink milk tea. Hahaha, she felt like humming a song.
Li Hanxue: “Something delicious?” What was this person up to now?
Seeing her wife’s confused little eyes, Luo Yan kept her in suspense and didn’t tell her yet.
Luo Yan milked some milk from the cow and prepared the sugar and tea leaves. Then she ran to the kitchen door and asked her wife to help light the stove.
Mother Luo: “How can you let Hanxue light the stove? What if she gets hurt?” Hanxue was a young lady in the Li family; she shouldn’t have to handle the stove herself!
Li Hanxue: “Mother, I want to try. Let me go.” Lighting a stove shouldn’t be that hard, right?
Luo Yan, scolded by her mother, didn’t dare talk back and just scratched her head.
Mother Luo: “Fine then. Just be careful not to burn yourself.” Handling a fire was no joke.
Li Hanxue: “Okay, Mother. You stay here and watch Wen Liang paint.”
Mother Luo: “Mhm, go on.” After speaking, she gave Luo Yan a playful glare. Luo Yan smiled and followed her wife into the kitchen.
Li Hanxue sat down, but after two minutes, the fire still hadn’t started. She felt a bit embarrassed and spoke up sheepishly: “Luo Yan… I can’t get it lit.”
Luo Yan went to get the oil, not expecting her “silly” wife to have already tried starting it. Hahaha, but she hadn’t managed to catch a spark.
Luo Yan: “I haven’t even started yet, don’t worry. By the way, Wife?” She looked at her and smiled.
Li Hanxue didn’t understand why Luo Yan called her so suddenly. “Mhm?”
Luo Yan: “Wife, could you call me ‘Husband’ from now on?”
…This… it was a bit hard to say in front of this person. “Hus…band.”
Luo Yan: “Yes! Here, let me.” Li Hanxue moved aside to let Luo Yan demonstrate.
Luo Yan: “Wife, look. Keeping it about half-full like this is enough.” This way the fire was just right and wouldn’t be dangerous.
Li Hanxue: “Okay~”
Luo Yan roasted the tea leaves until they were a scorched yellow, then added the sugar. Once melted, she poured in the milk. Li Hanxue added a couple more pieces of wood to the fire, and it was done. After Luo Yan filtered out the leaves, it was ready to drink.
Luo Yan: “Wife, come try this.”
Li Hanxue took a sip. The rich milky fragrance and the taste stimulated her taste buds. The flavor of the tea was there but subtle. It was delicious—fragrant and sweet.
“It’s so good!”
Hehe~ who doesn’t love milk tea? As expected, her wife loved it too. “Drink more, Wife.”
Li Hanxue: “Mhm, okay.” It was so good; after one sip, she wanted another.
Luo Yan: “Wife.”
Li Hanxue looked at Luo Yan but didn’t say anything.
Silly wife, there’s milk tea on the corner of your mouth. “Don’t move.” Li Hanxue looked at Luo Yan and really stayed still. Luo Yan quickly leaned in and licked the corner of her wife’s lips. Li Hanxue froze instantly!
Seeing her wife dazed, Luo Yan leaned in again and licked the other corner of her lips. Then she looked happily at her silly wife.
Seeing Luo Yan staring at her, Li Hanxue snapped out of it. She looked at Luo Yan shyly, not knowing what to say to her.
Luo Yan: “Drink slowly, it’s getting on your mouth. I’m going to bring some to Mother and Wen Liang to try.”
After Luo Yan left, Li Hanxue sat down with a crimson face. She began to sip the milk tea in tiny gulps, determined not to let it get on her lips again.
Li Hanxue thought: Luo Yan is too bad. She didn’t tell me it was on my mouth, she actually… actually used her mouth… to… for me… What if… what if Mother had walked in! No, I have to tell Luo Yan about this later.
Luo Yan: “Mother, try this. See if you like it.”
Mother Luo took it and said, “Alright, let me taste.”
Luo Yan: “Wen Liang, stop painting for a second. Come here, try this.”
Wen Liang immediately put down his brush, walked over, and took the cup. “Thank you, Master.”
Luo Yan: “You’re welcome. I made this with milk and tea leaves; it’s called milk tea. Try it and see if it’s good.”
Wen Liang took a sip and felt it was wonderful. “Master, this milk tea is delicious.”
Mother Luo: “Mhm, it is quite good. It’s a bit sweet, though, I shouldn’t drink too much.”
Luo Yan: “Yes, Mother, I added sugar. Just don’t drink too much and you’ll be fine.”
After serving them, Luo Yan went back to find her wife. Seeing the bowl was empty, she asked, “Want more?”
Li Hanxue: “Um, just a little more.”
Luo Yan: “Okay, give me your bowl.” Luo Yan took the bowl and poured out the rest, which made exactly one full bowl.
Li Hanxue grew anxious seeing it. “I can’t drink this much.”
Luo Yan: “It’s fine, you drink first. Whatever you can’t finish, I’ll drink.”
Li Hanxue: “Alright then.” She couldn’t understand why this person insisted on sharing the same bowl with her.
Li Hanxue: “What is this called?” It had to have a name.
Luo Yan: “Milk tea. It’s called milk tea. If you like it, I’ll make it for you whenever you want it in the future.” Luo Yan stared at her wife as she spoke.
Li Hanxue felt shy and lowered her head to drink. After a few small sips, she handed it to Luo Yan. “I’m done.”
Luo Yan took it and finished it off in a few big gulps. Li Hanxue watched in a daze, feeling like Luo Yan acted as if she’d never had a drink before.
Setting the bowl down, Luo Yan noticed her wife was still staring. She leaned in for a kiss on the lips and then went out feeling quite pleased with herself.
…Why did she kiss me again. Honestly! She’s taken advantage of me several times in just this short while.
When Luo Yan went out, Wen Liang had finished his drink. Mother Luo had a tiny bit left.
After cleaning up, everyone sat in the courtyard. Luo Yan asked Wen Liang about his family situation.
Wen Liang had an older sister who was already married. He was 19 this year and planned to take the imperial examinations again, mentioned he had failed last year. Luo Yan said she would help him study so he could pass. Wen Liang was overjoyed to hear this.
When Wen Liang found out his Master was only 17, he was shocked. Master was tall and looked about the same age as him. If Master hadn’t said anything, he really wouldn’t have known she was two years younger.
Wen Liang was also married. His wife had wanted to come along today, but Wen Liang hadn’t let her.
Luo Yan: “Next time your wife wants to come, don’t stop her. If she comes, she can chat with my wife.”
Wen Liang: “Yes, Master.” He hadn’t expected Master to allow students to bring their wives.
Luo Yan: “When your wife comes, she can also study with you. In the future, after you pass the exams, if she is literate, she can not only handle the household but also help you. Wen Liang, only by growing together can a couple go further.”
Wen Liang: “Yes, Master. I will bring my wife next time.” Master was right; the household spent money on food and drink. Being literate would help her manage things better.
In the afternoon, after lunch, Luo Yan and Wen Liang set out together. Wen Liang headed home, and Luo Yan went to the market to buy an “illustrated book” (the one her father suggested). Additionally, she planned to visit Boss Pu so he wouldn’t have to travel all the way to her house.
Wen Liang: “Master, I’ll head back now.”
Luo Yan: “Okay.”
After Wen Liang left, Luo Yan first bought the illustrated book. Then she bought some vegetables, meat, and pork ribs. She bought extra ribs to make both braised ribs and soup.
On her way out, she saw someone selling apples and bought some of those too.
When she arrived at Boss Pu’s, he was busy. Luo Yan didn’t say much and just stepped in to help.
After being busy for over an hour, the crowd thinned out. “There were quite a lot of people today.”
Boss Pu: “Today was a bit busier than usual, but it’s not like this every day.”
Luo Yan: “Naturally. Since I’m here today, you won’t need to make the trip to my place this afternoon.”
Boss Pu: “That’s perfect.” It saved him the trouble of traveling.
Luo Yan: “Yes, and I bought more ingredients. I’ll teach you right here.”
Boss Pu: “The shrimp you made yesterday are still here.” He didn’t know how to make them taste good, so he hadn’t dared touch them.
Luo Yan: “That’s even better.”
Luo Yan had Boss Pu watch her do it once, explained the key points, and then let him try.
After Boss Pu finished, he tasted it. He felt the flavor was a bit off and looked at Luo Yan. She tasted it too—the problem was in the seasonings.
Luo Yan: “The seasoning is a bit heavy, and the ratio is off.”
She carefully explained the seasoning ratios again. Boss Pu tried a second time, and the taste was much better. At this level, Boss Pu decided he could start selling it.
Luo Yan told him to practice more—he could practice while selling. When more customers arrived, Luo Yan prepared and served the bowls herself. She earned back the money she spent on her own ingredients.
Boss Pu had nothing but praise and insisted Luo Yan keep the money earned from those few bowls. Luo Yan didn’t refuse and accepted it.
Having finished her teaching, she said her goodbyes and headed straight home.
After dinner that night, Father Luo asked Luo Yan if she had bought “the book.” Hearing she had, he thought she was truly in a hurry, buying it the very next day.
Li Hanxue ate the pork rib soup Luo Yan made and was very happy. The ribs were delicious, and the soup was savory.
When Luo Yan lay in bed, she saw her wife looking at her with a smile. She couldn’t figure out what she was so happy about.
Li Hanxue: “Can we have pork rib soup again tomorrow?”
It really was delicious.
Is my wife so easily conquered by a bowl of rib soup? Good grief, I haven’t even had my fun yet. “We can, but…?” Luo Yan pulled her tighter into her arms.
Li Hanxue: “But what?”
Luo Yan: “But the ‘important business’ hasn’t been handled yet.” Before Li Hanxue could react, Luo Yan had already blocked her lips and kissed her.
