After Transmigrating into a Book, I Became the Vicious Female Supporting Lead - Chapter 2
Lin Qiyan stood frozen for a long while, her expression flickering with hesitation when she finally looked up again.
[But if that really is the famous Mu Yunge, would she just follow me like that? Her personality is a bit different from the book’s description—she seems like such a fragile girl.]
Mu Yunge’s brow twitched imperceptibly.
Lin Qiyan shook her head inwardly. Regardless of who she was, being on the streets at midnight was definitely unsafe. Her identity didn’t matter. Once she reached that conclusion, she stopped overthinking it.
Mu Yunge pretended to notice nothing, speaking up at the perfect moment: “What’s wrong?”
Lin Qiyan felt a twinge of regret for staring so rudely. She waved her hands frantically. “Nothing, nothing! You go wash up first.”
Mu Yunge blinked. “Okay.”
It was well into the second half of the night by the time both were lying in bed. Perhaps because she was in an unfamiliar bed, Lin Qiyan couldn’t fall asleep. In the darkness, her cat-like eyes were clear but tinged with a hint of sorrow.
Starting off with such a difficult hand—survival was going to be an issue. The assets on the original owner’s phone weren’t much; a part-time job was a necessity. But with a debt that massive, she couldn’t pay it back even if she sold herself.
Lin Qiyan sighed and gave another middle finger to that little ball of light in her mind.
Perhaps it was a case of “thinking by day, dreaming by night,” but as she drifted into a hazy slumber, she saw the culprit System once again.
Floating in mid-air, soul-form Lin Qiyan and the System stared at each other. The scene was hauntingly familiar.
Lin Qiyan squinted at it. “You actually dare to show up again?”
The System trembled as it defended itself: “I am a Vicious Female Supporting Lead System. The only identities I can find are of that type. You already have one of the best starting positions among all the hosts I’ve ever managed!”
Lin Qiyan: “…”
Just how miserable were your other hosts for me to be ‘lucky’?
“So, what are you here for this time?”
The little light ball seemed to just remember its purpose. “Oh! Almost forgot. I’m here to tell you the plot direction of this book and the original owner’s ending.”
Lin Qiyan was confused. “Didn’t the original owner already die?”
The light ball wobbled left and right, appearing to shake its head. “That was an accident. According to the book’s setting, the original owner’s final end is to die without a place to be buried.” It spoke tentatively, “Actually, the moment you answered that phone call in the alley, the original owner’s death countdown began.”
Lin Qiyan: “???”
“So, Lin Qiyan, you have to save yourself to survive here.”
Lin Qiyan: “…What happened to the ‘happy resurrected life’ you promised?”
The light ball felt bashful. “Every resurrection has a price.”
Lin Qiyan finally couldn’t hold back and flipped it off to its face. She steered back to the main point: “Who are the protagonists of this book?”
Avoiding the protagonists was the only true path to a peaceful life.
The System sounded surprised. “Did I not say?”
Lin Qiyan: “…”
“What do you think?”
The light ball gave a “hehe” laugh and replied, “One is named Tang Ziqian, the other is Yu Xinxin.”
Lin Qiyan mused, “They sound like two girls.”
The System agreed. “Mhm. Not just ‘sound like’—they are two girls.”
Lin Qiyan was shocked. “This is a Yuri/GL novel?”
“Yep.” Realizing a possibility, the System asked, “Are you homophobic?”
Lin Qiyan shook her head. “No, but I’m straight.” She had gay friends back home—men and women alike.
The System’s tone turned deep and meaningful. “Young lady, never say never. Anything is possible.”
Lin Qiyan grew suspicious. “Are you moonlighting as a sexual orientation counselor now?”
The System gave a shy laugh before returning to a serious tone. “Right, you need to be careful of someone named Mu Yunge. You were eventually destroyed at her hands.”
Lin Qiyan didn’t quite understand. “Mu Yunge?” She frowned slightly. “Why?”
System: “She is the ‘Child of Fortune’ who transcends even the protagonists. She is the female lead’s benefactor. In the end, the original owner was so desperate she tried to seduce Mu Yunge, who had her packed up and sent directly to her creditors.”
“She indirectly brought about the female lead’s tragic end.”
“What kind of tragic end?” Lin Qiyan asked, trying to stay calm. “Give me some mental preparation.”
The light ball hesitated for a moment before saying obediently, “Sold to an underground casino, becoming the lowest-tier sex slave. Eventually, her body was ruined, and she died on a guest’s bed.”
Lin Qiyan sucked in a breath of cold air. Terrifying.
Her face went ashen as she asked, “Can I just commit suicide right now?”
The light ball couldn’t bear it. “If the plot isn’t finished, suicide will just lead to infinite resurrections until you either save yourself or reach the final ending.”
Lin Qiyan’s composure cracked. “What counts as ‘saving myself’?”
System: “Get forgiveness from those you bullied, change the original owner’s image in the eyes of your classmates, or… pay off the debt.”
Lin Qiyan was completely numb; she couldn’t even form an expression. To the System, she looked calm and collected. It felt quite proud—the girl had finally grown up, remaining rational even after hearing such terrible news.
Then, it saw the person in front of her say with a perfectly rational face: “Let’s just perish together.”
The light ball shuddered. “I-I-I’m leaving! Good luck!!”
The next moment, the dream vanished.
On the bed, Lin Qiyan opened her eyes. Sunlight poured in through the uncurtained window. Not a speck of dust could be seen on the guesthouse’s wooden floor. The cleaning was decent—Lin Qiyan still had the mind to critique the housekeeping.
The space beside her was empty, leaving only a note.
—Thanks for taking me in. You were sleeping so soundly I didn’t want to disturb you. Hope to see you again.
Lin Qiyan tucked it away and started calculating. If this Mu Yunge was the “Big Boss” from the book, did she just earn a favor? Maybe she could use that favor to escape her fate later.
Lin Qiyan was a resilient optimist; she’d take it one day at a time. She pulled herself together and got up to wash. Today was Monday. The original owner was still a high schooler—she had to go to class.
Thinking of the awkward situation she might face, Lin Qiyan stared gloomily into the mirror before spitting out toothpaste foam.
At seven or eight in the morning, the dawn mist gradually dissipated, leaving a streak of gold on the horizon. Marshmallow-like clouds floated across the light blue sky.
Near the school, bicycle bells rang melodiously. Students walked in pairs or stepped out of luxury cars to join their companions heading toward the grand school gate. The blue-and-white uniforms felt fresh and full of vitality.
Lin Qiyan stood outside the gate, looking out of place among the backpack-wearing students. The original owner was arrogant and never studied, let alone brought books home.
The harmonious atmosphere shattered the moment she appeared, turning into a boiling pot of oil. Lin Qiyan was the rat that had fallen into it.
Sarcasm was everywhere.
“She actually dares to show up? How brave.”
“The Lin family is bankrupt. Who’s going to protect her now?”
A few girls pushed past her. “Don’t look at her; it’s bad luck first thing in the morning. Let’s go.”
“Can Lin Qiyan even afford the tuition here? I bet she’ll have to tuck her tail and get lost once this semester ends.”
“Who knows? She’s pretty enough; maybe some big boss will keep her as a mistress so she can stay in school,” a boy said maliciously to his friend.
He spoke quite loudly, and everyone nearby heard, triggering a burst of laughter.
At the center of it all, Lin Qiyan wore a face that said, “As long as I choose to be deaf, you can’t affect me.” She marched firmly into the school—and was promptly stopped by the Student Council on duty.
“Student, where is your uniform and school badge?”
Lin Qiyan was blank. The original owner never wore them, and she didn’t know where they were. As they locked eyes, she was the only one feeling the secondhand embarrassment.
Just as she was at a loss, two girls in short skirts walked past, laughing at her. “So stupid.”
They weren’t quiet. Lin Qiyan instantly found her voice: “They aren’t wearing them either!”
The student on duty: “I can’t see them.”
Lin Qiyan: “…”
Well then. Disability looks good on you.
It was peak entry time. The sea of uniforms and smiles formed a beautiful scene—until they saw the person at the gate, and their faces turned to disgust.
A few boys fooling around stopped when they saw her standing there.
“What is she doing here?”
“Oh, she got caught by the snobby Student Council.”
Another boy laughed mockingly, nudging the chubby boy next to him. “Don’t you like her? Now’s your chance. Go on!”
“Isn’t that ‘redemption’ trope popular lately? Go pull her up now, be her ‘light,’ and then you can do whatever you want with her later.”
The chubby boy, his face covered in acne, looked Lin Qiyan up and down with an expression of pure revulsion. “Forget it. Her family is bankrupt; what use is a ‘vase’ like her?” he muttered. “And her pheromones are so stinky. I wouldn’t take her even if she paid me.”
The boy who started the topic sneered. “Just plug your nose. As long as she’s good in bed, who cares? Throw her away when you’re done. You’re not marrying her or giving her a final mark; you can’t lose.”
The chubby boy glanced at him. “Why don’t you go then?”
The boy shrugged. “I like the flashy ones who are wild in bed. This type is too bland. Boring.”
The group walked off laughing. Lin Qiyan, forced to stand there as punishment, moved further into the shade.
It wasn’t until the first bell rang that the student on duty let her go. Lin Qiyan had spent the whole morning watching almost every student in the school.
Following the original owner’s memories, she ran panting to her classroom, only to find the teacher had already started.
“Reporting in.”
Her crisp voice drew everyone’s eyes. The quiet classroom instantly exploded into chatter.
The teacher frowned. “Lin Qiyan, you’re late.” She looked her over and asked, “Where is your bag?”
Lin Qiyan lowered her head in shame.
The teacher gave her a look of disgust. “Go stand outside the door. You never listened to lessons before; you don’t need to listen to this one either.”
With that, she ignored her. Unmasked mockery filled the room, and gazes like crawling insects stuck to her.
Lin Qiyan stared straight ahead, walked to the wall, and stood perfectly upright. Through the window, she caught a glimpse of the original owner’s desk.
It was a mess. Crumped paper balls were everywhere, along with unfinished breakfast. A soy milk cup had tipped over, the white liquid soaking through books and a blue-and-white uniform.
Glancing slightly to the side, her eyes caught her front-row neighbor—a girl with thick glasses. Meeting Lin Qiyan’s gaze, the girl flinched as if burned and quickly looked away, her whole body trembling as she tried to cram herself into the corner against the wall.
Despite the August/September heat, the girl was wearing long sleeves.
Not far away, Mu Yunge, coming down from the floor above, glanced casually to the side and saw Lin Qiyan standing by the wall.
She paused, her eyes narrowing slightly.
The long hair that had been tied loosely last night was now in a high ponytail. Combined with the blue-and-white school uniform, she looked both beautiful and sharp.
Thinking of the news she’d heard that morning, the corners of Mu Yunge’s lips pressed down, and her dark pupils became unfathomably deep.
The empty hallway was silent. Mu Yunge turned and walked away.
