After Transmigrating into a Book, I Ended Up with My Dream Omega - Chapter 10
The island had never been artificially excavated, so naturally, there were no piers or docks for the guests to safely disembark.
The only way off was for the guests to jump directly into the sea and wade ashore. Although the Director’s explanation made sense, it felt like a calculated “warning shot” from the devious production crew.
The yacht they were on had already come to a halt. After waiting for a moment with no response from the crew, the guests began to jump down one by one.
“Careful.”
Xia Xiangzhen was right behind Yin Xiaowei. Seeing her stumble from the force of a wave, she quickly reached out to steady her.
“Thank you.”
Yin Xiaowei wasn’t so set on rejecting Xia Xiangzhen that she would lose her basic manners. However, the speed at which she pulled away once she found her footing was just as rapid.
“Let me carry your bag for you.”
Xia Xiangzhen reached for the straps, but before she could touch them, Yin Xiaowei blocked her.
“No need. You’ve already taken the initiative to carry the iron pot; I don’t need you to take my bag too.” Yin Xiaowei adjusted the pack that had slipped during her stumble. “Besides, it’s not that heavy. Let’s go—the people in front are already far ahead.”
[Classic double standards. Several people went down before her and Xia Xiangzhen didn’t offer to help carry bags or steady anyone. The moment it’s Yin Xiaowei, everything changes.]
[She invested 30 million! 30 million! Why doesn’t an Alpha like this love me? (Jealousy is making my cell walls split)]
[You’d need Yin Xiaowei’s beauty first.]
[This Alpha has a future. She knows to start with the small things to leave a good impression. In reality, so many Alphas just rely on their status and don’t do a lick of honest work. Puh!]
The 30 million yuan requested in the Director’s original investment plan was actually a “sky-high price” meant for haggling. According to her real plan, 15 million was enough to film the whole season.
She truly hadn’t expected an investor to accept the price without bargaining and move the funds so quickly. Consequently, the “budget-saving” low-end equipment on the original list was upgraded to state-of-the-art gear. They had not only installed numerous fixed cameras but also purchased a fleet of drones to ensure 360-degree, dead-angle-free coverage of the guests.
As the guests waded through waist-deep water toward the shore, the Director signaled a drone to fly high, capturing a bird’s-eye view of the island.
The island showed no signs of human touch. Lush forests covered 80% of its area, bordered by golden sands and surrounded by the endless azure sea, with seagulls circling above. With the live filters applied, the island appeared on screen like a fairy-tale paradise.
[How much did the crew spend on cinematography? This makes me want to go there on vacation.]
[With all that vegetation, resources should be abundant. If these guests work hard, they shouldn’t starve, right?]
[Not necessarily. They all grew up in modern civilization; who knows how to survive on a desert island? But that’s exactly what I want to see—celebrities getting wrecked by the environment. Hehehe.]
“Finally on land.”
Stepping onto the soft sand, Chen Shengze dropped her backpack and sat on it. She had been seasick during the boat ride; forcing herself to wade through the water to get here had been an ordeal.
“The scenery is beautiful,” Chen Shengze said, trying to distract herself from her nauseous stomach.
“It’s great. If we’re living here for five days, I think it’s worth it,” Yu Yayue added while taking off her jacket.
It was currently noon local time, and the temperature on the island was high. Everyone was wearing long sleeves and pants suitable for survival, making it sweltering.
Shading her eyes from the high sun, Xia Xiangzhen found it hard to believe that, according to the novel, a violent rainstorm would hit tonight. Despite the heat, she remembered they were about to enter the forest to forage, so she resisted the urge to take off her jacket.
Seeing the others following Yu Yayue’s lead and shedding their layers, she spoke up. “I checked the local weather forecast yesterday. Heavy rain and storms are coming tonight, and they’ll last a while.”
“It’s already noon; we don’t have much time until evening. We need to prepare food, water, and especially a shelter. Otherwise, tonight is going to be miserable.”
“So, don’t be in such a hurry to take off your jackets—especially those of you coming into the forest with me to collect resources.”
No one had expected Xia Xiangzhen, whose main goal seemed to be chasing a girl, to offer any constructive advice. But seeing that she’d even checked the local weather and was proactively taking on the hardest tasks, it seemed she hadn’t reached the GM position just because of her sister.
[She’s not purely here to chase a girl. She even knew to check the weather before her phone was taken away. And she carried the heaviest pot off the boat.]
[Going into the forest to forage is the most dangerous part, and she volunteered for it.]
[Honestly, my opinion of Xia Xiangzhen has changed. Though, her ‘love brain’ tendencies are undeniable.]
[Is it though? At least I don’t see it. She’s logical and clear-headed. Giving the best to the Omega you love shouldn’t be dismissed as just being ‘love-brained.’]
Faced with even Wei Lan’s look of newfound respect, Xia Xiangzhen didn’t let it go to her head. In truth, she wasn’t as noble as they thought. Her primary motivation was that if no shelter was built, not only the others but she and Yin Xiaowei would be soaked like drowned rats. Most importantly, the novel stated that Yin Xiaowei caught a cold because of this very storm.
“If no one objects, let’s divide the labor,” Xia Xiangzhen concluded.
“I’ll look for ingredients!” Yu Yayue raised her hand. “I can make bows and arrows while we walk, equipping everyone with weapons!”
“Actually, let’s hold off on that,” Xia Xiangzhen declined politely. “We don’t have your aim or training. It’s better to practice before we arm everyone. If we use them in a hurry and hit a teammate, what then?”
Yu Yayue was disappointed she couldn’t form an archery squad—imagine a line of people drawing bows and effortlessly taking down prey. How cool would that be? But she realized Xia Xiangzhen’s concern was valid. “Fine, I’ll make one for myself first. I’ll teach you guys later.”
Xia Xiangzhen turned to Yin Xiaowei. “Then…”
Yin Xiaowei could feel the concern and worry in Xia Xiangzhen’s eyes. It seemed she was worried about her health and didn’t want her doing heavy labor, looking to assign her an easier task.
But she didn’t want any special treatment. She cut Xia Xiangzhen off before she could speak. “Finding water, food, and building shelter are all major tasks. Shengze is seasick, so let her do the lighter work.”
“It’s fine if we don’t find a spring immediately; there are coconut trees here. I learned how to climb trees, so I’ll grab some. That’ll be enough water for today,” Wei Lan added, following Yin Xiaowei’s lead.
“Alright. Wei Lan, Shengze, and Zixi will be responsible for starting the fire and finding a spot for the shelter. Me, Yayue, and…” Yin Xiaowei paused for a beat. “…Xiangzhen will go into the forest for resources and water.”
The division was sound. Everyone nodded.
Xia Xiangzhen looked at Yin Xiaowei, unsure whether to be happy or sad. Yin Xiaowei had guessed right; she did want her to stay behind. Building a shelter and starting a fire were much safer than foraging in the forest. She hadn’t expected Yin Xiaowei to choose the forest just to avoid receiving an easy assignment.
“Then leave the iron pot and flint here. We’ll take the axe to clear the way. Let’s set a time: no matter how much we’ve finished, we meet back here to regroup.”
“Fine. Let’s meet here at 5:00 PM.”
[Why does the vibe this season feel so different from the last? Is it just me?]
[Not just you. Even though it’s an all-female cast, last season was a ‘playful reality show.’ This season is a ‘not-a-second-to-waste’ survival mission. Most importantly, the two Alphas aren’t acting like lazy lords!]
As the sole Alpha in the exploration team, Xia Xiangzhen held the machete and led the way. The forest on this island, untouched for years, didn’t even have a faint trail.
“This… it feels a bit creepy with how dark and dense it is.” Yu Yayue swallowed hard and grabbed Yin Xiaowei’s arm.
Xia Xiangzhen glanced back. “If you two stay linked like that, how are you going to hunt if something jumps out? I don’t want to find out whether we’re their dinner or they’re ours.”
“I feel like you’re just jealous and bitter.” Yu Yayue didn’t say it outright, but the other two knew exactly what she meant.
“Nonsense. I’m thinking of the team.” Xia Xiangzhen hacked through a branch blocking the path, picked it up, and tested its natural curve. “How’s this branch? The flexibility feels good.”
“What a coincidence,” Yu Yayue said with a strange look, but she let go of Yin Xiaowei to test the wood. “It’ll work. This is the one.”
Just as Yu Yayue spoke, the grass nearby rustled.
