After Transmigrating into a Book, I Ended Up with My Dream Omega - Chapter 3
When Xia Xiangzhen proposed investing in the variety show at the company meeting, she didn’t face much opposition.
The high ratings of Wilderness Survival’s first season had already proven the show’s value. The only reason other investors were hesitating was the involvement of new technology: Full-time live streaming and real-time bullet comments.
This had never been done in variety shows before. No one knew what would happen once post-production editing was completely eliminated, exposing the guests’ most authentic selves to the audience. Whether the result would be fame or infamy was a gamble.
Furthermore, the full title of the second season was actually Wilderness Survival: Female Subgroup Special. Shifting away from the all-male cast of the first season was another point of hesitation for many investors.
Overall, however, it was a solid investment. Thus, the decision to invest went through smoothly. What did encounter pushback was Xia Xiangzhen’s plan to personally participate as a contestant. Her sister, Xia Xiangting, was especially vocal in her opposition.
“What on earth made you think of participating in that show yourself?” Xia Xiangting held a file on Wilderness Survival Season 2. She flipped through pages regarding the first season; seeing how many participants ended up in the hospital or suffered severe injuries during filming made her eyelids twitch with anxiety.
Closing the folder to put it out of her mind, Xia Xiangting said earnestly, “Sister, to be honest, I’m gratified that you chose this show as an investment. I can see its potential. If it succeeds, it will significantly boost Xingyuan’s market value. But that’s no reason for you to participate personally.” She tapped the file. “Look at this—it’s dangerous.”
At this point, the final cast list hadn’t been settled, so the prominent name “Wei Lan” hadn’t appeared yet. Xia Xiangting didn’t suspect a hidden motive involving Wei Lan; she simply thought her sister wanted to personally build the “Xingyuan” brand.
Xia Xiangzhen had already prepared her counter-argument. As long as her sister agreed, nothing else would be an issue.
She sat down next to Xia Xiangting, took her hand, and said with total sincerity, “Sis, I’m going there this time to bring you back a sister-in-law.”
Xia Xiangting: “???”
Stunned by the answer, Xia Xiangting asked blankly, “Who do you like? Someone on the crew? You don’t need to go that far just for a staff member, do you?”
Xia Xiangzhen pulled out the profile on Yin Xiaowei she had prepared and placed it in her sister’s hands. “It’s her. My dream Omega. She’s one of the guests.”
Xia Xiangting didn’t ask how her sister knew the guest list; she simply began reading the file. After finishing the brief document, she praised, “You have good taste. I support you finding an Omega with such a resilient character and strong principles. However—” She cut Xia Xiangzhen’s joy short. “Even so, there’s no need to enter the show yourself. You can pursue her slowly.”
“Sharing hardships and facing trials together makes a bond stronger,” Xia Xiangzhen said, half-joking but mostly serious.
It seemed to make sense, but something still felt slightly off to Xia Xiangting. She looked at the file again, hesitated, and finally relented. After all, this was the first time her sister had expressed a desire to bring a partner home.
“Fine, I agree. But you must prioritize your safety.” Xia Xiangting still felt uneasy. “How about I add more sponsorship specifically for medical and protective measures? I suspect the injuries last season were due to inadequate medical support.”
“Oh, Sis, there’s no need for that.” Xia Xiangzhen leaned her head on her sister’s shoulder and gave her a playful squeeze. “You have to believe in my strength. Your sister is a super-strong Alpha, you know!”
Xia Xiangting feigned annoyance but clearly enjoyed the affection. Within two minutes, she succumbed to the charm offensive. “Alright, alright. I believe in you. Go ahead and do what you need to do.”
“Yay! Sis, you’re the best!” Xia Xiangzhen jumped up, looking at her sister expectantly. “Then I’m going to go read books on wilderness survival!”
“Go on, then.”
With the injection of funds from Xingyuan, Wilderness Survival entered the fast track. Preparations progressed at lightning speed.
“The crew is ready already? That fast?” Yin Xiaowei held her phone in one hand and a book on outdoor survival in the other.
“A new player, Xingyuan Entertainment, filled the remaining funding gap,” her manager, Liu Xingyi, said as he forwarded the crew’s message to her. “The director just called me. Before official filming starts, there’s a pre-launch meeting to explain the specific regulations for this season and to meet your fellow adventurers.”
“I sent the time and location to your phone. Just go there directly. However, the crew mentioned a special circumstance: the General Manager of that entertainment company stuffed herself into the show. There’s definitely something fishy going on. But regardless of who she’s there for, I hope you seize this opportunity.”
Yin Xiaowei noted the details. She mentally starred the fact that the lead investor’s GM was joining the cast. After filtering out her manager’s usual nagging, she replied, “Understood. I’ll be there on time.”
The day of the meeting arrived. Xia Xiangzhen, buzzing with excitement at the prospect of officially meeting her dream Omega, arrived at the hotel private room. She took a deep breath to calm her nerves before pushing the door open.
Many people were already seated. At the sound of the door, every head turned toward her.
“President Xia, you’re here! Please, come in,” the Chief Director said, standing up to greet her. “Everyone, this is Xia Xiangzhen, President of Xingyuan Entertainment.”
The Director wasn’t actually thrilled about an investor participating, but since the “Gold Donor” had insisted even after being told there would be no special treatment, she had to endure it. Besides, this was a survival show; no matter what their motive was, once they tasted enough hardship, they’d likely quit on their own.
When Yin Xiaowei saw Xia Xiangzhen, she froze.
First thought: Isn’t this the person from the hospital who claimed to be my fan? Second thought: She’s the major investor? What is her goal?
Though she worried she was being conceited, she felt Xia Xiangzhen was there for her. This hunch reached a peak during the introductions. For the person introduced before her—Wei Lan—Xia Xiangzhen only gave a perfunctory handshake. But when she reached Yin Xiaowei…
“Miss Yin, I apologize for not introducing myself properly last time. My name is Xia Xiangzhen, and I am a fan of yours.”
Xia Xiangzhen reached out her hand with an expectant gaze. Yin Xiaowei suppressed her doubts and offered a flawless smile. “Hello, President Xia.”
“You can call me Xiangzhen, or just Zhenzhen. Please don’t call me ‘President.’ After all, we’ll be struggling to survive together on this show,” Xia Xiangzhen laughed.
Looking at that smile, Yin Xiaowei’s bad feeling intensified. But with everyone watching, she could only extend her hand.
Knowing Yin Xiaowei’s current precarious situation and her sensitivity to “hidden rules,” Xia Xiangzhen kept the handshake brief and professional before letting go.
The Director watched them subtly, feeling as though she had caught a glimpse of the truth. She quickly moved on to the others. Besides the two of them and the original protagonist (Wei Lan), the group included an idol singer, Liang You (Female Omega), and an archer, Yu Yayue (Female Beta).
Once everyone was seated, the Director clapped her hands for attention. “Now that everyone is here and acquainted, let’s get down to business.” Her expression turned serious. “You’ve all seen the proposal. You might be wondering: why is there no script?”
“I’ll tell you why. Because of our new technology—full-time live streaming and real-time comments. We mentioned this in the proposal, and you all joined knowing this. This technology means every move you make is constantly exposed to the audience. Since this is a survival show, anything can happen. Therefore, there may be no script for the entire season; you’ll have to figure out the flow yourselves.”
“To help you adapt quickly in the first episode, we can reveal the rules now. Our first location is a deserted island. The crew will confiscate any unsuitable luggage or personal items. We will then provide essential supplies—flint, bottled water, machetes, etc.—based on an opening mini-game. Now, while everyone is here, you should discuss how you plan to survive on a deserted island with only primitive tools.”
