After Transmigrating into a Book, I Ended Up with My Dream Omega - Chapter 4
Xia Xiangzhen really wanted to discuss things with the group (well, mainly with Yin Xiaowei), but seeing everyone lost in their own thoughts, she followed suit and quieted down. She began to mentally review the plot again. Although she knew she was in reality now and any choice she made would cause a deviation from the original story, the logistical details—like choosing a campsite—still served as a useful reference.
Could I use this to show how reliable I am and leave a deep impression on Yin Xiaowei? she wondered.
Xia Xiangzhen stole a glance at Yin Xiaowei, who was currently frowning, deep in thought. However, even such a discreet peek didn’t escape Yin Xiaowei’s notice; her gaze immediately shifted toward Xia Xiangzhen.
Their eyes met, but Xia Xiangzhen couldn’t see a single flicker of emotion in Yin Xiaowei’s eyes—only coldness. Before Xia Xiangzhen could even process the awkwardness, Yin Xiaowei turned her head back.
She actually turned back!
Xia Xiangzhen couldn’t believe the dismissal. It felt as though she had already been blacklisted by her dream Omega as one of those “trashy investors” who try to use their wealth to force “hidden rules” on actors.
How am I supposed to fix this?!
Silently withdrawing her gaze, Xia Xiangzhen felt herself sinking into a state of “social withdrawal.”
The Chief Director watched the scene, anxious. While a few prickly personalities could boost ratings in a survival show, the genre ultimately relied on teamwork. If they couldn’t even discuss survival methods for a deserted island now, what would they do when they actually got there? Especially since this time, there was no post-production editing to smooth over the silences.
The Director finally broke the ice. “Do you have anything you want to communicate with each other, or with me?”
Hearing the question, Xia Xiangzhen snapped out of her funk. Seeing the silence persist even after the Director spoke, she rallied her spirits. She couldn’t give up yet. Today was only the first day they had formally met. As long as she performed well later and let Yin Xiaowei see her true, shrewd, and capable “CEO” self, she would surely change her mind.
With a heroic rescue added on top, she would definitely be able to marry her dream Omega and reach the pinnacle of life! After pumping herself up internally, Xia Xiangzhen’s confidence surged again.
Seeing that no one else was speaking, she took the initiative. “I’ve read the proposal. Each episode’s filming schedule is five days. During those five days, will the live stream be running 24 hours a day?”
This was a concern shared by everyone. Their attention immediately shifted to Xia Xiangzhen and the Director.
The Director hadn’t expected the “Gold Donor” to be the first to ask a question. She tailored her answer to emphasize the show’s selling point, aiming to make the investor feel her money was well-spent.
“Yes. This season is built on absolute realism. The 24-hour live stream eliminates post-production editing. Besides showing the audience the difficulty of surviving in the wild with only primitive gear, it also presents the most authentic side of every guest.”
The subtext was clear: There’s no editing to fix your public image. If you want to look good to the audience, start taking this seriously right now.
The Director added, “After Season 1 ended, we researched adding this technology. The research showed that what the audience loves most is this sense of reality.”
(And watching celebrities suffer, though the Director kept that part to herself.)
“If we’re staying for five days, we need to think carefully about the campsite. After all, the crew won’t be providing tents or anything like that, right?” Xia Xiangzhen asked, steepling her fingers and looking deeply serious.
Despite her stoic expression, she was screaming internally: Look at me! Look at me! Look at me!
She felt that her current posture surely projected a sense of reliable security. Based on the novel, she knew Yin Xiaowei lacked a sense of security, so she intended to lean heavily into that “reliable” persona. I still have room for improvement, she thought. Maybe I should wear a pair of gold-rimmed plain glasses. If they can reflect a beam of “intellectual light” at the right moment, I’ll look even more composed and wise.
Whether Yin Xiaowei noticed her “cool” look was unknown, as Xia Xiangzhen didn’t dare look back just yet. When the Director resumed speaking, everyone’s eyes followed.
“Correct. However, the essentials kit will include things like axes and ropes for the guests to choose from.”
Every guest got the message: You choose the site, you build the house. The crew won’t help. We’ll only provide a few primitive tools at the start.
Xia Xiangzhen turned her face and proactively struck up a conversation with Yin Xiaowei. “Sister Xiaowei, do you know how to choose a campsite on a deserted island?”
If she could, Xia Xiangzhen would have dropped the “Sister” and called her something more intimate, but thinking of that cold gaze from earlier, she lost her nerve.
Yin Xiaowei had indeed learned some things from her recent reading. But without knowing the layout of the island, she chose a cautious answer. “As for the campsite, it really depends on what the location the crew selected looks like.”
Wei Lan chimed in from the side. “Since the Director said the first episode is an island, an open, shaded area should be good. But there’s no rush on the campsite; we can scout the site when we get there. Right now, we should think about the four pillars of wilderness survival.”
“By the way, do you know what those four things are?” Wei Lan asked Xia Xiangzhen with feigned nonchalance.
Despite the casual tone, there was a strange sense of confrontation in Wei Lan’s voice, which left the others baffled. The show hasn’t even started—why is she being so antagonistic toward the investor?
The others were confused, but Xia Xiangzhen knew exactly why. It was either because she had pretended not to know Wei Lan earlier, or because the Xia family had swooped in and invested before the Wei family could.
Given that this was the original “scummy Alpha” lead who treated Yin Xiaowei as a substitute, Xia Xiangzhen’s favorability toward her was in the negatives and dropping fast. Seeing Wei Lan hand her a “showing off” opportunity on a silver platter, Xia Xiangzhen wasn’t about to pass it up.
She offered a faint smile, maintaining a calm and breezy expression. “It’s fire, water, shelter, and food. Those are the four most important things for our entire journey.”
Wei Lan’s antagonism did indeed stem from the Xia family’s pre-emptive investment. After receiving the invite, Wei Lan realized the show’s value and asked her family to invest. While they were still hesitating, she found out the Xia family’s new company had already provided the full remaining amount. What galled her most was that Xia Xiangzhen didn’t seem to be investing because she believed in the show, but rather to pursue one of the guests.
She hadn’t expected Xia Xiangzhen to actually study up. Though surprised, Wei Lan kept her poise and shifted the topic. “Exactly. For fire, we can choose flint; for shelter, we can use axes and machetes. But food relies on hunting, which is mostly luck. So, I think we should divide the labor now. Of course, the heavy physical work goes to us two Alphas.”
“That’s a good idea,” Yu Yayue agreed. “I’ll try making a wooden bow and arrows when I get home. I can help with the hunting.”
Yin Xiaowei proactively took on a task. “I can learn how to collect fresh water and how to use flint to start a fire.”
“Then I’ll learn how to build shelter—stones, mud, wood, leaves?” Chen Shengze counted on her fingers. “Those are the main materials, right?”
He Zixi looked around awkwardly, not knowing what was left. “What about me? Everyone seems to have a job.”
“Read more books on survival. We’ll figure out the rest when we reach the island,” Xia Xiangzhen comforted her. “Once we’re on the ground, there will be plenty of work to do.”
Xia Xiangzhen was actually a bit dissatisfied that Wei Lan had shifted the topic so easily and got everyone talking. She had been ready for a fight and had only gotten to show off once! She wondered if her dream Omega had “gotten” her serious attitude and her ability to comfort others.
Xia Xiangzhen stole another peek at Yin Xiaowei, only to be caught red-handed again.
Aaaaah! Xia Xiangzhen screamed internally. Why do I get caught every single time? How is Xiaowei so sensitive to people looking at her?!
Despite her internal panic, her face remained calm. She let her lips curl into a slight smile. “Sister Xiaowei, are there any survival books you’ve been reading lately? Could you recommend some to us?”
By adding the word “us,” she successfully turned her private inquiry into a group discussion.
