After Transmigrating into a Book, I Ended Up with My Dream Omega - Chapter 5
Facing the combined gaze of Xia Xiangzhen and He Zixi, Yin Xiaowei agreed to the request—even though she knew perfectly well that Xia Xiangzhen’s true goal had nothing to do with books.
“I’ll send the titles to you once the meeting is over.”
Usually, by the time the meeting ends, Xia Xiangzhen will have forgotten what she said. I’ll just leave and pretend I forgot too, Yin Xiaowei thought coldly.
“Great,” Xia Xiangzhen replied, glancing around.
Wei Lan and Yu Yayue were deep in a heated discussion about bow-making, with Chen Shengze listening in. Only He Zixi remained near them. Xia Xiangzhen had intended to find a topic related to their professions to keep the conversation going, but…
Wait, why was even He Zixi dragging her chair over to join the bow-making circle?
No, where are you all going? Xiaowei is already being extremely wary of me. If you all leave, it’ll be even harder for me to talk to her!
Xia Xiangzhen watched helplessly as He Zixi joined the other group. It would be too obvious to call her back now. She could only turn back to Yin Xiaowei, who was still sitting motionless in her original spot. “It seems they’re all very interested in how to make a wooden bow.”
Yin Xiaowei rolled her eyes internally.
Interested in bow-making? They’re giving you, the “Gold Donor,” an opportunity because they saw you were interested in me.
Having no interest in awkward small talk—especially with no cameras rolling and no one else watching—Yin Xiaowei didn’t respond. She simply sat there, silently sipping her water.
Xia Xiangzhen: “…”
Without the desired reaction, how was she supposed to keep going? She fiddled with her fingers awkwardly. Comparing the lively atmosphere of the other group to the stifling silence between her and Yin Xiaowei, the awkwardness felt even heavier.
Xia Xiangzhen couldn’t tolerate this atmosphere between her and her dream Omega. She decided she needed to explain herself—to prove she was just a “proper person” who wanted to get closer to her idol. (She chose not to mention that her goals of “pursuing an idol” and “pursuing a girlfriend” were running on the same track).
“Sister Xiaowei, I really am your fan. Look.” She took out her phone and pulled up her history on Site X (a video sharing site), showing her watch history and even her own video uploads.
Lately, she hadn’t just been reading survival books. Amidst her heavy workload, she had carved out time to edit fan videos for Yin Xiaowei. Because Yin Xiaowei was currently only a minor, “18th-line” celebrity with few fans, there were very few videos of her on Site X. Xia Xiangzhen’s high-quality edits had practically single-handedly supported the fandom’s video presence; her ID had already become a legend in Yin Xiaowei’s small fan circle.
She even imagined that once filming started, she could edit “CP” (couple) videos while the show was airing, secretly shipping herself with Yin Xiaowei. Eventually, not only would they get together, but the audience would feel they were a match made in heaven.
Yin Xiaowei looked at the screen. Her gaze became complicated. No one would put this much time and effort into editing videos if they weren’t a real fan. She hadn’t expected this seemingly arrogant person to have a heart full of “pink bubbles” for her.
Though she now believed Xia Xiangzhen was a genuine fan, one last doubt remained in the back of her mind: Xia Xiangzhen’s eyes always held a look of “absolute determination,” as if she were a prize to be won. If she were just a fan, why that look? And why go through the trouble of joining the show?
She decided to ask, even if the consequence was Xia Xiangzhen getting angry and kicking her off the program.
Seeing Yin Xiaowei’s attitude soften, Xia Xiangzhen breathed a sigh of relief and put her phone away. “Sister Xiaowei, you believe me now, right?”
“President Xia—”
“Sister Xiaowei,” Xia Xiangzhen gently interrupted. “If you don’t want to call me Xiangzhen or Zhenzhen, you can call me Xiao Xia. ‘President Xia’ is too…” She wanted to say “distant,” but realizing they didn’t have a personal relationship yet, she pivoted. “…it’s not suitable for the show.”
“Alright then, Xiao Xia.” Yin Xiaowei compromised, but then immediately demonstrated why she had such a great face yet such poor resources—she was too blunt.
“Since you say you’re my fan, I’ll ask directly. A mere fan doesn’t look at someone with ‘absolute determination’ in their eyes. So, why do you look at me that way?”
“I have… ‘absolute determination’ in my eyes?” After the initial shock, Xia Xiangzhen began to reflect.
It seemed that because she was so certain she could “rescue the beauty” and make Yin Xiaowei fall for her, it had leaked into her expression. No wonder Yin Xiaowei was so sensitive; it was her own attitude that was the problem.
Look at how wary she is now, Xia Xiangzhen thought. How can I be so sure she’ll like me even after a rescue? In this version of the world where I exist, that plot point might not even happen. This was a real world now, and she couldn’t blindly follow the novel’s script.
“Yes. Can you tell me why?” Yin Xiaowei pressed.
Xia Xiangzhen’s mindset shifted. She decided that, in this situation, the truth was the best path. She said sincerely: “It’s true that I’m your fan, but you are also my dream Omega. My goal has always been to pursue you and ask you to be my girlfriend. If that came across in my eyes, I’m truly sorry.”
The doubt in Yin Xiaowei’s heart finally landed. Without a second thought, she rejected her. “I’m sorry, President Xia, I don’t have any feelings for you.”
“Oh, I know.” Xia Xiangzhen continued earnestly, “Then, can you give me a chance to pursue you?”
“I’m sorry, but I’m afraid I can’t do that either.”
Across the room, the Chief Director felt she could finally relax. The discussion had become lively—even if it had started with the friction between Wei Lan and the investor. She noted that dynamic as a highlight for later. At least now she didn’t have to worry about them being dropped on an island with no clue what to do.
But as she watched, the two people talking privately—Xia Xiangzhen and Yin Xiaowei—looked like they were about to have a total fallout. The Director tensed up again. Please don’t let the investor pull out or demand a cast change!
The other guests were also peeking over, full of gossip. They watched the scene of the “Powerful Investor’s Confession” and the “N-list Actor’s Ruthless Rejection.”
Facing the blunt rejection, Xia Xiangzhen maintained her “Cool CEO” persona. She said in a low, steady voice, “Oh. Well, we can talk about that later, then.”
Yin Xiaowei watched her for a moment, waiting. Usually, isn’t there a second half to that sentence? Like, threatening to have the director fire her?
Seeing that Xia Xiangzhen remained calm and was actually reaching for the fruit platter, Yin Xiaowei asked, “Is that it?”
“Is what it?” Xia Xiangzhen took the rejection well. She felt it was “as expected.” She picked up a piece of watermelon to eat. Just as she was about to take a bite, she realized that gnawing on a watermelon didn’t fit her “Cool CEO” image.
Her hand made a mid-air detour, and she handed the slice to Yin Xiaowei instead. “For you.”
Yin Xiaowei was genuinely dazed. She took it and said, “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” Xia Xiangzhen paused. “What did you mean by ‘is that it’?”
Yin Xiaowei looked at the watermelon. She decided that if the investor wasn’t going to bring it up, she wouldn’t either. The appearance fee was very important to her, after all. “Nothing.” She took a bite of the fruit and fell silent.
The “grand drama” ended with a whimper. Without any more excitement, the conversation among the other four guests gradually died down. The Director announced the meeting’s end.
“Let’s start a WeChat group,” Xia Xiangzhen suggested, hiding her little selfish motive. “Sister Xiaowei, can I add you first?”
It was a normal request—if you ignored the fact that Xia Xiangzhen had just confessed her feelings. Yin Xiaowei thought for a moment. Since her blunt rejection hadn’t made Xia Xiangzhen give up, she pulled out her phone. “Should I scan you?”
“Sure!”
Beep. The friend request was accepted instantly.
Xia Xiangzhen’s profile picture was a cute Chibi moon wearing a nightcap. Yin Xiaowei noted it, changed her contact name from “Goodnight” to her real name, and immediately set her permissions to “Chat Only” (blocking her from seeing her social feed).
Xia Xiangzhen, knowing nothing of this, went home in high spirits. She flopped onto her bed, eager to see what Yin Xiaowei’s “Moments” looked like.
Only then did she realize she couldn’t see anything.
Xia Xiangzhen was stunned. She really still thinks of me as a predatory investor…
