After Transmigrating into a Book, I Ended Up with My Dream Omega - Chapter 6
Xia Xiangzhen stretched her back and set aside the last of the reviewed documents. She then took a pen and drew a heavy, final stroke on the calendar.
Tomorrow, filming finally begins!
She clutched the calendar, nearly moved to tears of joy.
Although she had managed to exchange a few words with Yin Xiaowei over the past few days, opportunities for private conversation were non-existent. Usually, they only spoke when everyone was chatting in the group WeChat. Private messages or video calls? Out of the question. Asking her out for a meal? Even more impossible.
Every path that would allow Yin Xiaowei to get to know her more deeply had been blocked at the source. She could clearly feel that she was being treated exactly like a “predatory investor with ill intentions.”
But those miserable days are finally ending! We meet tomorrow! Xia Xiangzhen thought happily, spinning her office chair in a full circle.
Just then, Assistant Chen knocked. She immediately regained her “Cool CEO” expression and put the calendar back.
“Enter.”
“President Xia, I’m here for the approved files.”
“I’ve finished them all; take them away.” She pointed to the thick stack. As Assistant Chen gathered them, she spun her pen with a deep, contemplative look. “Assistant Chen, I’m recording the variety show starting tomorrow. Clear my schedule for the next week.”
“Understood, President Xia”
Assistant Chen maintained a professional face, opening his notebook and pretending to jot it down. It wasn’t that he was being lazy; it was just that he had heard this exact instruction several times over the last few days. He couldn’t help but marvel at how much effort his boss was putting into this Miss Yin Xiaowei.
The entertainment industry is full of gossips. Besides the guests, several assistant directors had been at the meeting. Somehow, word got out. When people heard that a major investor hadn’t gotten angry after being rejected so bluntly, they began to re-evaluate Yin Xiaowei.
She had good acting skills and a low price tag. Aside from being so beautiful that she might overshadow the lead, many crews actually liked hiring her. Before, her stubborn personality meant she was often blacklisted—not by directors, but by offended investors.
But now, things were different. She had “backing.” Xingyuan might be a new company, but behind it stood the massive Xia Group. Many companies connected to the Xia Group (or those wanting to be) decided to place their bets on her, thinking it was a low-risk investment.
Consequently, Yin Xiaowei’s resources increased significantly. Though they were mostly female leads in small budgets or minor roles in blockbusters, her options had widened. Even her manager, Liu Xingyi, didn’t just call her anymore; he showed up at her door with a stack of scripts.
Yin Xiaowei lived in a two-bedroom apartment so her mother could stay with her when she wasn’t hospitalized. She sat on the sofa, looking at the scripts.
Liu Xingyi couldn’t help but lean in. “Xiaowei, how do you know President Xia? People say you two met before.”
Yin Xiaowei looked up. “How do you know that?” She’d been home or at the hospital; she had no idea about the industry gossip.
“The whole circle knows. These scripts? They were sent by investors who want to get on the Xia family’s good side.” Liu Xingyi’s tone softened. “If I’d known you had this connection, I wouldn’t have wasted my breath lecturing you. Tell me the truth—did something happen between you two? I’m your manager; I need to be prepared. Even if something did happen, it’s fine; I’ll help you cover it up.”
“Nothing happened. We just bumped into each other at the hospital once. You’re overthinking it.” Yin Xiaowei frowned. Suddenly, the scripts in her hand felt like hot coals.
“A thirty-million-yuan investment and she joins the cast herself? You rejected her to her face and she didn’t react? No way that’s just from one hospital meeting.”
Seeing her expression, Liu Xingyi’s face turned strange. He’d been her manager for a long time and knew how stubborn she was. “You aren’t… planning on rejecting all these scripts, are you?”
Yin Xiaowei looked pained. “If I take these roles, I’ll owe Xia Xiangzhen a massive debt of gratitude.”
“Oh, my little ancestor!” Liu Xingyi wailed. “The resources are right in your hands and you don’t want them? Is your brain…” He swallowed the rest of the sentence, remembering she had a powerful backer now. “Usually you’re stubborn, fine, but this opportunity jumped into your lap! You don’t even have to do anything. Just pick a script, act, and get paid. Even if you break up with President Xia later, the investors can’t take the salary back!”
“’Break up’ is not the right term,” Yin Xiaowei muttered, handing the scripts back to him.
“Fine, fine! Have it your way!” Liu Xingyi left, as unhappy as he had arrived.
Left alone, Yin Xiaowei felt stifled. She decided she had to stay far away from Xia Xiangzhen to stop the rumors from fermenting.
Unbeknownst to Xia Xiangzhen, her manager’s “persuasion” had actually backfired spectacularly. Yin Xiaowei now wanted to be eight hundred meters away from her.
Ignorant of this catastrophe, Xia Xiangzhen was happily packing while chatting with her sister. Xia Xiangting watched her sister shove items into the suitcase. “Why are you taking so much? I thought you liked traveling light.”
Xia Xiangzhen added a bag of Snickers and fruit candies. “I think Xiaowei might need them. Insect repellent, medicine… I know the crew provides some, but I want to be fully prepared!”
“But you said they confiscate unsuitable luggage. Snickers definitely won’t be allowed,” Xia Xiangting pointed out.
“Your sister never gives up in the face of hardship! I’ll smuggle them in!” After her dramatic vow, Xia Xiangzhen paused. “Wait… does smuggling snacks fit my ‘mature and stable CEO’ image?”
“What? Your what?” Xia Xiangting looked at her like the “confused old man on a subway” meme. “You? Mature and stable? Do you really think that’s the image you’re projecting?”
“Isn’t it?” Xia Xiangzhen stopped packing.
Xia Xiangting wanted to tell her she had a massive misunderstanding of herself, but she changed her mind. “Actually, don’t obsess over a ‘persona.’ Just use your real personality to get close to her.”
“But according to my observations, she likes this type of person.” Xia Xiangzhen steepled her fingers and lowered her voice. “What can I do? She thinks I’m a predatory investor. If I don’t approach her with a reliable, mature image, how will she ever like me?”
She even put on her specially-bought plain glasses and looked out the window at a 45-degree angle.
Xia Xiangting patted her shoulder. “Exchange sincerity for sincerity. If you really like her, just keep being good to her. She’ll see it eventually.”
Xia Xiangzhen nodded solemnly. “So, if I keep being good to her while maintaining this image she likes, my confession will have a higher success rate, right?”
Xia Xiangting gave up. “Do what you want. Good luck. I’m waiting for you to bring home a sister-in-law.”
“Understood,” Xia Xiangzhen replied in her deep CEO voice. Then she immediately snapped back to her usual self, squinting at her sister. “Sis, not to be rude, but you’ve never been in a relationship. How are you teaching me?”
A vein popped on Xia Xiangting’s forehead.
“Since you’re so good at giving advice, you should bring a partner back too. You’re six years older than me, after all,” Xia Xiangzhen mused. “Omega or Beta is best, but honestly, even an Alpha is fine. I’m open-minded.”
The vein on Xia Xiangting’s forehead throbbed. She grit her teeth. “I think you should stay in your ‘mature CEO’ persona and never switch back. Your success rate will be much higher that way!”
“I think so too.” Xia Xiangzhen pushed up her glasses, and at that exact moment, the lenses reflected the light with a sharp, dramatic glint.
