After Transmigrating into a Book, I Turned the Straight Bigshot Gay (BL) - Chapter 14
Besides winning over the Zhu family, the other reason Xie Yunshen wanted to attend this birthday banquet was to watch the drama unfold.
The Zhu family banquet was a major climax in the book. Old Mrs. Zhu would high-profilely invite her savior—the Male Lead—to the feast. After the Male Lead showed off his skills, the old lady would even intend to matchmake her granddaughter with him.
A certain cannon-fodder love rival, jealous of the Male Lead, would spike his drink to make him humiliate himself in public. Of course, thanks to the “protagonist halo,” the villain would only end up outsmarting himself.
However, this incident also led to a major “stain” in Yan Shiqi’s life.
The night before the departure…
“Wait, what does this mean? I’m not going?”
Yi Wuyi had received a new custom suit from the butler for the banquet. Xie Yunshen, however, had nothing.
“Isn’t it your day off tomorrow?” Yi Wuyi asked.
Xie Yunshen grabbed the duty roster. Sure enough, it was his scheduled break.
“You’ve worked hard these days; just take a good rest,” Yi Wuyi said, patting his chest.
Impossible. Right now, the Top Star Sect was eyeing the Yan family like a predator. How could he miss such a major event as Yan Shiqi going to the Zhu residence?
Xie Yunshen thought it over and had an epiphany: “I get it! Is it like last time—one in the light, one in the dark? Tomorrow you’re the visible guard, and I’ll be shadowing in the dark?” He felt a surge of excitement.
Yi Wuyi delivered the death sentence: “Not at all.”
Xie Yunshen immediately bolted for the study. The two bodyguards at the door raised their hands to stop him, but lowered them halfway. Forget it, why look for trouble?
The study was pitch black again. Xie Yunshen was now used to Yan Shiqi’s peculiar psychological habit: sitting in the darkness for hours, where no one dared to disturb him.
“Mr. Yan.” He flicked on the light, flooding the room with brightness, and walked to the desk. Yan Shiqi was indeed behind it.
Xie Yunshen placed the duty roster on the desk.
Yan Shiqi didn’t seem disturbed. He was reclined at a 125-degree angle, wearing a crisp white shirt and vest. His arm rested on the armrest, index finger pressed against his closed lips, his eyes heavy with thought. Only when Xie’s shadow fell over him did he leisurely turn his gaze toward this uninvited guest.
Xie Yunshen immediately crouched beside him, urgency in his voice: “Mr. Yan, who exactly is going to the banquet with you tomorrow?”
“We follow the roster,” Yan Shiqi said, tapping the edge of the desk.
“But I’m not on the roster!”
Yan Shiqi took the paper, glanced at the names, and looked back at him. “Indeed.”
That’s it? The man was always so composed, seemingly unaware of the gravity of the situation. It was maddening. And yet, the Head of the Yan family was clearly a perceptive person who understood human nature.
Xie Yunshen pressed his palms onto the desk, his gaze boring into Yan Shiqi’s deep eyes. “If I don’t go, how is Old Five supposed to protect you alone?” And how am I supposed to watch the drama?
Yan Shiqi didn’t answer, merely observing him with a hint of scrutiny. Xie Yunshen waited a full minute in that ocean-like gaze. When no reply came, he felt like he was starting to drown. He even suspected Yan Shiqi wasn’t considering his question at all.
He walked around the desk and gripped Yan Shiqi’s shoulders. Half-questioning and half-demanding, he said seriously: “Mr. Yan, exploit me ruthlessly! Don’t give me any more days off. If necessary, I can even pay you to let me work…”
Yan Shiqi finally looked at him. “Fine.”
“?” That’s it? Xie Yunshen had expected he’d have to beg for a while longer.
Yan Shiqi pressed a button on his intercom: “Uncle Zhao, prepare things for A-Shen. He’s going to the Zhu residence tomorrow.”
“You are truly wise and magnanimous!”
Xie Yunshen thought he saw a trace of a smile on Yan Shiqi’s face, but upon closer inspection, the man’s lips hadn’t moved at all.
Returning to his room, he saw the suit hanging neatly in his closet, protected by a garment bag.
“Grandpa, when did this arrive?”
“This morning. Uncle Zhao brought it. Said you needed to wear it for a banquet tomorrow and told you to try it on.”
Xie Yunshen slapped his forehead. He’d been played.
“You brat, what are you going crazy for now?”
All morning, Xie Yunshen glared resentfully at Yi Wuyi. Yi Wuyi felt a chill down his spine. “I didn’t provoke you, did I?”
“Very good, Old Five. You look so honest, but you’re actually the sneakiest of them all.”
“I thought you’d find the suit when you went back to your room. Who knew you’d go straight to the study to find Mr. Yan? You’re quite something.” Speaking of this, Yi Wuyi had to admire Xie Yunshen’s guts.
Xie Yunshen snorted. Thinking back to what he did yesterday, he wanted to slap his past self.
“It was my fault,” Yi Wuyi conceded, feeling he had gone a bit too far.
“Then give me the passenger seat later.”
Truth be told, sleeping in the passenger seat was incredibly comfortable.
Yi Wuyi said with deep meaning, “Even if I’m willing, do you think you’ll succeed?”
Xie Yunshen didn’t understand.
So, when they reached the car, Xie Yunshen closed the door for the Bigshot and tried to slide into the passenger seat.
“Get in!”
Xie Yunshen froze. It was the first time he’d heard an exclamation point in the Bigshot’s voice. What was this tempo? He turned back to look at Yan Shiqi.
You’re truly overbearing.
In that split second, Yi Wuyi had already bolted into the passenger seat like lightning. Xie Yunshen returned to the back seat, sitting next to Yan Shiqi. He even fastened the Bigshot’s seatbelt for him.
Yan Shiqi’s expression was calm, his eyes possessing their usual lethal elegance. Xie Yunshen felt Yi Wuyi’s intel was wrong. Last time, Yi Wuyi said the Bigshot didn’t like people getting close. Look at this, is that right?
The banquet was held at a high-end ballroom in A-City. As soon as the Yan family car stopped, a Zhu family official stepped forward to open the door. “Mr. Yan, please follow me.”
Xie Yunshen followed, his eyes sweeping the crowd. From the outdoor garden to the inner hall, excluding staff, there were 137 people. At least 125 had their eyes on Yan Shiqi. No fewer than 20 held gazes of hostility and scrutiny—mostly business rivals. As for those hiding actual killing intent within that hostility… at least 10.
These were likely sent by the Top Star Sect. He and Old Five had a clear division of labor: one watched the person Yan Shiqi was talking to, while the other scanned the suspicious characters in the vicinity, forming a triangular defensive posture.
Old Mrs. Zhu had a serene aura. She shook hands with Yan Shiqi and spoke elegantly: “Mr. Yan, I have finally witnessed your grace. Thank you for gracing this old woman with your presence.”
She admired his courage. Anyone with eyes could see the Top Star Sect was targeting the Yan family. By coming here, Yan Shiqi was risking assassination.
“It is your ninetieth birthday, a mountain of blessings. How could I not come to share in the joy?”
The old lady said with lingering fear, “Speaking of which, I nearly passed away on the operating table recently. If not for a ‘Divine Doctor’ who cured my chronic ailment, I’m afraid I wouldn’t have had the chance to meet you…”
Xie Yunshen thought: Here it comes. The ‘Divine Doctor’ refers to the Male Lead. The Male Lead’s peerless medical skills would stun everyone, saving countless billionaires and elites, creating a god-tier network.
“I’ve invited him to the banquet; I wonder if he will grace us with his presence.”
The old lady was full of praise for the doctor. Yan Shiqi socialized for a bit and was about to move on when the Bai family arrived.
“Mr. Yan, we meet again.”
Old Mr. Bai was still “deceased” to the public, so the new head and Bai Jingyan were representing them. Bai Jingyan gave a small smile. “Hello, Mr. Yan.”
Yan Shiqi nodded. “Mr. Bai, Miss Bai.”
“Congratulations on securing the ‘Third Tier’ project. You’ve truly made me look at you in a new light,” Master Bai said sincerely. He had thought Yan Shiqi was merely at odds with the Sect, but never expected him to flip the table and fight them head-on. Even Bai Jingyan’s gaze held a bit more respect.
Yan Shiqi didn’t linger; he took a glass of wine and prepared to move.
“Mr. Yan…” Bai Jingyan suddenly called out. He turned around. “Please, stay safe.” She was sincere and worried.
Alarm bells rang in Xie Yunshen’s mind as he looked at Yan Shiqi. In the novel, it was this very sentence that made Yan Shiqi develop a favorable impression of the heroine!
But Yan Shiqi only nodded: “Thank you, Miss Bai.”
Xie Yunshen relaxed immediately. Based on his understanding of Yan Shiqi, that emotionless expression meant the Bigshot had no major interest in the heroine for now. Transmigrating actually had some effect.
However, the gratified Master Bai beside them didn’t think so. He likely thought the marriage alliance was in the bag!
Next up: Master Bai would suggest the marriage to Bai Jingyan, she would refuse, and they would argue in the garden. Their conversation would be overheard by the Male Lead. Given the previous incident at the Bai house, the Male Lead would assume Yan Shiqi was the one pushing for the marriage.
Consequently, at the banquet, the Male Lead would use a sleight of hand to swap Yan Shiqi’s drink with the spiked one meant for himself, causing Yan Shiqi public embarrassment.
It was at this point in the novel that Xie Yunshen, the reader, first began to have major issues with the Male Lead.
