- After Transmigrating into a Scum Alpha, I Was Targeted by the Flirty Boss Omega
- Chapter 4 - I Will Take Responsibility!!
“…” Wen Min couldn’t figure out what An Lu meant. She touched her nose to ease the awkwardness. Her gut feeling was growing stronger: this child… could it really be hers?!
I’m finished. I shouldn’t have gambled my life on the Scum Alpha’s character… I lost the bet, didn’t I?
Shen Fu’s gaze was firmly locked onto Wen Min. The darkness in her eyes made anyone who glanced at her shudder. Wen Min didn’t even have the courage to steal a look. She felt like she had a target painted on her back, standing rigidly in place, not daring to look behind her at Shen Fu.
Perhaps Wen Min had been silent for too long, as An Lu spoke again. Biting her lip, she looked deeply wronged, with a lonely air of being disregarded. “I told you right away…”
Although her words carried a hint of grievance, it sounded less like blame directed at a lover and more like a gentle reprimand to a close friend. With this thought, Wen Min’s eyes suddenly brightened, as if she had found a possible chance for survival.
She gave a forced smile, scratching her hair, and said, “I’m sorry, I’ve been a little busy lately…”
So, did I win the bet after all?! I must just be her trusted good friend.
An Lu stared at her, not seeming to accept Wen Min’s explanation. She quietly clenched her fist, looked at Wen Min, and said haltingly, “I wanted to tell you just now…”
Wen Min looked at her, encouraging her to speak boldly with her eyes. “Mhm?”
At that moment, Shen Fu’s eyes slowly narrowed, becoming so sharp they seemed to pierce An Lu’s inner thoughts.
An Lu’s lips were pressed into a thin, straight line, looking very serious. “The doctor said… if I terminate it again this time, I might not be able to have children in the future.”
After speaking, An Lu’s eyes reddened slightly.
Wen Min had initially wanted to ask about the other parent’s reaction, but seeing An Lu’s delicate and pitiful appearance, she suddenly felt it wasn’t the right time.
After all, at such an important moment, An Lu sought out a friend, not a partner, which meant that person must be a scumbag, unworthy of An Lu’s trust.
An Lu’s eye makeup was slightly smeared, making her look utterly heartbroken. Considering her self-respect, Wen Min felt awkward staring at her, so she shifted her gaze elsewhere and asked, “So, what are you thinking? You should know that…”
No matter what, I’m your friend and will always be here for you.
An Lu secretly observed Wen Min’s reaction. Wen Min’s expression reminded her of the times she used to distance herself.
Consequently, Wen Min’s unfinished sentence was misinterpreted by An Lu. Before she could finish, An Lu interrupted her.
“Are you… going to abandon us again?”
An Lu deliberately avoided Wen Min’s eyes, not daring to look directly at her, appearing incredibly humble. She spoke in a choked, almost abandoned tone.
“…”
Wen Min’s comforting words were instantly swallowed. She froze as if struck by lightning, absolutely terrified to check Shen Fu’s reaction.
The information in those words was massive. An Lu’s phrasing, like her personality, was subtle and deferential, yet it laid out all the relationships bare.
Wen Min no longer held onto any shred of hope. She seriously analyzed the relationship between the Scum Alpha and An Lu.
It seemed the Scum Alpha not only abandoned his wife and daughter but did so more than once!! What a morality-breaking menace. What other surprises was she unaware of?!
Wen Min knew that nothing she said could truly atone for the Scum Alpha’s mistakes. She simply patted An Lu’s back gently and whispered, “Don’t cry. It’s not good for your health…”
An Lu was surprised that Wen Min cared so much and took a moment to recover. Her tone remained gentle, without any hint of blame, showing a heartbreaking maturity that would evoke sympathy from any Alpha.
“Never mind. I know what you really think. The older sister is better than me and more suitable to be your family.”
She let out a soft sigh and timidly glanced at Shen Fu. Her eyes welled up again, that expressive beauty covered in a hazy layer of tears, and soon several gut-wrenching teardrops rolled down her cheeks.
Before Wen Min could respond, a cold voice rang out, the chill in the tone enough to cause fear.
“I don’t pick up trash.”
Shen Fu walked slowly toward them, her hands behind her back.
The “trash” in question winced, and the hairs on her body stood on end. “…”
Shen Fu reached An Lu’s side and gently placed her left hand on An Lu’s belly. Her eyes looked somewhat dangerous, causing An Lu to tremble involuntarily.
An Lu wanted to hide but didn’t dare, so she quietly clutched the corner of Wen Min’s shirt.
Wen Min felt An Lu’s subtle movement, so she glanced at An Lu, seemingly telling her not to be afraid.
Shen Fu took in their interaction. She stared intently at Wen Min, her eyes inscrutable, and asked unhurriedly, “Are you playing games with me?”
She had thought this person had some redeeming qualities, only to find out it was all a pretense made out of fear of her power.
Wen Min shook her head violently, vehemently clarifying, “No!”
Shen Fu no longer believed her. Like declaring war, she said in a deep voice, “You will regret this.”
She didn’t need much bravado to convince anyone that Shen Fu was a ruthless person who backed up her words.
I already regret it, Wen Min thought.
I really brought this trouble upon myself. I should have just been disciplined earlier. Waiting until now… I’m probably going to be cut into a thousand pieces.
It was just a pity that the little trust she had managed to earn from Shen Fu was now utterly shattered.
Suddenly, Wen Min found unexpected courage. She looked at Shen Fu and admitted truthfully, “I do regret it…”
Shen Fu was stunned that Wen Min had the nerve to admit it. She wasn’t the only one shocked; An Lu was too.
An Lu gasped. Based on her past interactions with Wen Min, Wen Min was an unreasonable and stubbornly proud person. Even when her first pregnancy ended in miscarriage because of Wen Min, Wen Min never showed a shred of remorse.
The only time she ever expressed regret was a sarcastic sort, and she would even follow it up with physical aggression.
Thinking this, An Lu quietly let go of Wen Min’s shirt corner, terrified that the punishment Shen Fu was about to mete out would be redirected at her.
However, to An Lu’s surprise, Wen Min didn’t explode in anger. Instead, she offered a sincere bow.
“I’m sorry. Please forgive me.”
“Ha…” Shen Fu gave an unconvinced laugh, but the anger in her eyes had diminished slightly.
Just when they thought Shen Fu had calmed down, Shen Fu wrapped one arm around An Lu’s shoulder and slowly raised her other hand from behind her back.
The sharp knife in her hand abruptly came into view.
Wen Min gasped, nervously fixated on Shen Fu’s every move. An Lu was completely stiff, like prey caught in a trap, afraid to move.
Shen Fu lightly traced the outline of An Lu’s belly with the knife tip. Her tone was casual, making it unsurprising if she did something monstrous the next second. She raised an eyebrow and asked, “Since you don’t want the child, should I help you take care of it?”
This statement was terrifying to An Lu. She shook slightly in fear and looked at Wen Min for help.
Wen Min didn’t notice An Lu’s expression; her attention was entirely on Shen Fu.
Meeting Shen Fu’s fearless eyes, Wen Min’s heart sank. Is she really going to do it?!
Wen Min’s mouth reacted faster than her brain, and she immediately shouted, “Don’t touch her!!”
Shen Fu didn’t seem to hear Wen Min’s words. Instead, she found it more interesting, so she deftly flipped the knife handle twice. The practiced movement was utterly terrifying. “What? Do you want to do it yourself?”
How much could someone who forgets a pregnancy even care about the child? It’s just a performance.
Wen Min’s breathing grew frantic with anxiety, and she yelled, “I will take responsibility!!”
Hearing this, An Lu’s eyes instantly turned red. This was a promise she had deeply hoped for but soon stopped daring to dream of. She softly called out, wanting to hold Wen Min’s hand. “Minmin…”
Wen Min felt a delicate hand touch her own. She didn’t think much of it at first and instinctively pulled away.
As the other person tried to hold her hand further, Wen Min happened to raise her hand, making a swearing gesture, holding it near her face. She said seriously, “What I did before was wrong, but I promise I won’t be like that again.”
“Ha…” Shen Fu was amused by Wen Min’s solemn tone. She lowered the hand holding the knife, rested the other hand on her hip, and watched Wen Min like she was a clown. “Aren’t you tired of pretending?”
By now, An Lu believed Wen Min’s promise was heartfelt. In her eyes, Wen Min was used to being spoiled and didn’t need to pretend at all.
If she genuinely didn’t care, she would have let Shen Fu do whatever she wanted, as it wouldn’t affect her life. There was no need to inconvenience herself to protect An Lu, let alone the child.
An Lu glanced at the knife’s position, and in a moment when Wen Min wasn’t looking, she swiftly swiped her hand across the blade.
Since Wen Min decided to treat her well, she needed to make her commitment stronger.
An Lu cried out in pain as she inhaled. She held up her bleeding hand and looked at Shen Fu in panic.
Shen Fu paused, belatedly realizing what had happened. Her eyes flickered, staring intently at An Lu’s seemingly innocent and pitiful face.
Immediately, Wen Min grit her teeth and shoved Shen Fu away, pulling An Lu to a safer spot.
With her back to Shen Fu, blocking An Lu behind her, she grabbed An Lu’s hand to check the wound, then carefully blew on it with her mouth, asking worriedly, “Does it hurt?”
In a flash, under Shen Fu’s scrutiny, An Lu’s weak eyes curved into a smile aimed at Shen Fu, like a provocation.
Wen Min was focused on the wound that was still bleeding and didn’t notice An Lu’s subtle movement.
The cut wasn’t large, but because An Lu’s skin was so pale, the red blood looked particularly shocking.
Before Wen Min noticed, An Lu quickly retracted her gaze. She gently pulled her hand back, seemingly refusing Wen Min’s concern, and whispered, “I’m fine. Don’t be like this; the older sister will be sad…”
Shen Fu glared at her, clutched the knife, and slowly walked over.
