After Transmigrating, the Female Lead Went Dark (GL) - Chapter 5
When Xiao Xinyue entered the cell, she saw the Sect Leader slumped unhappily on her black iron chair. The dim sum on the table was gone, with only half a bowl of soy milk left, a thin layer of soy skin having formed on top.
Even before Xiao Xinyue came in, Zhou Zhuying felt a mix of anticipation and fear. When she finally did, Zhou Zhuying secretly glanced at her before pretending to be aloof and looking away.
Xiao Xinyue didn’t miss her little proud gesture. She asked, “Why is there still half a bowl of soy milk left? Does it not taste good? Who said it’s shameful to waste food?”
Zhou Zhuying felt guilty and was about to make up for her mistake, but Xiao Xinyue intentionally poured out the remaining half bowl of soy milk.
“Oh, Saintess sister, I didn’t want to be shameful, but you didn’t give me a chance.”
Xiao Xinyue raised an eyebrow and gave her a teasing look. “It was cold.”
Zhou Zhuying was naturally optimistic. The slight annoyance she felt earlier was gone, and she was now cheerful. “Is Saintess sister worried I would get a stomach ache?”
Once she felt the female lead’s kindness, she took the opportunity to push her luck.
“Did Saintess sister have someone bring this blanket? I’m glad I had it last night, or it would have been too cold. But Saintess sister, can I make one small request? Everything in this room is great, but there’s no place to bathe. I feel uncomfortable if I don’t wash for one night. You know, hygiene is very important; it’s not a matter of appearances. It concerns a person’s longevity…”
She chattered on endlessly, giving Xiao Xinyue a headache and making her forget why she came here in the first place. She quickly went out to find someone to get water for Zhou Zhuying’s bath.
“Prisoners have human rights too! If you don’t pay attention to hygiene, what if I get an infectious disease? It could affect the whole dungeon. I know I’m a prisoner and have no right to be picky, but can we make a deal? Can I go boil the water myself?” Zhou Zhuying finished speaking, only to realize Xiao Xinyue had already left.
The two disciples guarding the dungeon brought in a bathtub for her. Her eyes lit up, and she quickly started bossing them around. “Put this tub in that corner. And please move the toilet a bit…”
“Where do you get all these demands from? Do you think this is still your Demon Palace?” the two disciples said, annoyed.
Zhou Zhuying pretended to be a good girl and asked, “Where’s your guard leader?”
“The guard leader? You mean Senior Brother Mixian? He—” As one disciple was about to answer her, the other one cut him off. “Why are you talking to this demon? Who knows what tricks she has up her sleeve?”
After that, they kept their mouths tightly shut and refused to say another word to Zhou Zhuying.
A little while later, their so-called Senior Brother Mixian came in with a straw mat, a bedsheet, and a pillow. He threw the three bedding items onto the clay bed and brought in a basin with burning charcoal.
Turning back to the two fellow disciples who were still bustling around, he said, “What are you doing? Are you really planning on serving her? Put the tub here and go get the water now.”
Chen Mixian was in a very bad mood.
Initially, he felt proud when the sect told him to guard the demon, thinking the leaders valued him. But after coming here, he couldn’t torture the demon. On the contrary, he had to serve her.
This demon was picky about her food and had endless demands about her personal hygiene. They usually only bathed once every ten or fifteen days, but she was a prisoner who insisted on smelling fragrant every day. How was she even acting like a prisoner? He didn’t know if the Saintess had captured a captive or invited a queen to stay.
Remembering the scolding he received, his mood was at its lowest. Still, he was very aware of the demon’s importance and couldn’t act as he pleased.
The two disciples guarding the dungeon door saw Chen Mixian come out and asked him curiously, “Senior Brother Mixian, how much longer do we have to guard this demon?”
“Until the leaders figure out how to deal with her!”
“When will that be?”
Chen Mixian said, “It’s such an important matter. They can’t just decide on a result right away.”
“What’s so difficult about it? The Demon Sect is full of evil. They have so much blood on their hands; they should pay with their lives. If you ask me, we should kill that demon and offer her as a sacrifice to the souls of those they harmed.”
“Killing her is easy, but deterring the Demon Sect that way is hard.” Chen Mixian remembered what Elder Zhuo told him. “The Demon Sect Leader has an adoptive father. His martial arts have reached a state of perfection, and even Elder Zhuo isn’t confident in fighting him. If the Demon Sect Leader dies, the rest of the sect members will obey her father’s orders. This is not good for our righteous path.”
The disciple grumbled, “No wonder she’s so fearless.”
Chen Mixian sighed. “I just hope the leaders can come up with a solution soon.”
He truly didn’t want to serve the Demon Sect Leader anymore.
Zhou Zhuying, the fearless Demon Sect Leader, had unlocked the right to a hot bath, received a charcoal brazier, and made her bed. Feeling refreshed, she took a nice nap since the weather was so good.
After her long monologue, Xiao Xinyue remembered she had a serious question for her. She went back and saw Zhou Zhuying was bathing, so she decided to handle her other matters first. When she returned to the cell after taking care of her tasks, she saw Zhou Zhuying sleeping soundly.
Sleeping so peacefully in the enemy camp… one could say she was either very optimistic or completely heartless!
Xiao Xinyue was annoyed. She didn’t want Zhou Zhuying to be comfortable, so she pulled off her blanket.
In her sleep, Zhou Zhuying vaguely felt a chill. She patted her stomach, then the space beside her, but found nothing.
Xiao Xinyue raised her delicate eyebrows and also reached out to pat Zhou Zhuying’s stomach. Zhou Zhuying frowned without opening her eyes and curled up instead.
Xiao Xinyue put the blanket back on her, then silently sat on the black iron chair, taking out the two rubies and playing with them in her hand.
A while later, Zhou Zhuying woke up. She saw that there was an extra person in the cell and was so startled she jolted awake. “Saintess sister, why didn’t you say anything when you came in?”
“I am here now,” Xiao Xinyue said.
Zhou Zhuying: “…”
The female lead is telling jokes now?
“What brings you here, Saintess sister?”
Xiao Xinyue got up from the black iron chair and moved closer to Zhou Zhuying, staring at her with a deep gaze. “Where is the Demon Venerable?”
Zhou Zhuying thought: Here it comes. I knew the female lead wouldn’t feed me for no reason. It was a shame she didn’t know the backstory and didn’t have any knowledge from the original book to help her.
“I don’t know.”
“You really don’t know, or you just don’t want to say?”
The person being questioned remembered the phrase, “Confession gets leniency, resistance gets severity,” and spoke the truth. “What’s there to not say? If I knew, I would definitely confess right away. After all, I hope you’ll give me a lighter sentence for my good attitude.”
Suddenly, she remembered something and asked, “By the way, you must have captured a lot of people from the Demon Sect, right? Maybe you can get something out of them?”
“You, the Sect Leader, are teaching me how to get secrets out of your subordinates?”
Zhou Zhuying blinked. “Is there something wrong with that?”
The original owner was a puppet, and she herself was clueless. If the female lead wanted to know more about the Demon Sect, she would have to rely on those subordinates!
Xiao Xinyue’s lips curved into a smile, and she said in a low voice, “So, the Sect Leader is of no use left in this world?”
Is this a death threat?!
Hearing this, Zhou Zhuying’s alarm bells rang. She quickly said, “You can’t say that. I’m still a little useful.”
“Oh?”
Zhou Zhuying racked her brain, recalling the plotlines from Meng Xiaoxiao’s social media. But the story had already progressed so far, and the male and female leads probably knew everything there was to know. What else could she say?
Suddenly, she had an idea. “Although the Qianji Sect is destroyed, there are still many other evil sects in the world that act violently and commit heinous crimes. Killing me is not the best way to deter them. In fact, it would make them think there’s no room for negotiation and lead to a direct conflict with the righteous path. Besides, killing me would only make the scattered Qianji Sect members even more unrestrained. When they cause trouble, the common people will be the ones who suffer.”
Xiao Xinyue smiled with satisfaction. “Not completely useless, after all.”
With the crisis averted, Zhou Zhuying got ahead of herself again. “Saintess sister, can you get me a new mattress?”
Xiao Xinyue was probably still thinking about what she just said, so she was a bit more patient. “What do you want now? Don’t push your luck.”
Zhou Zhuying patted the straw mat and straw-filled mattress under her bedsheet. “I can’t sleep well on this. It’s easy to get burned.”
Xiao Xinyue pushed the charcoal basin away with her foot. “How would you get burned if the charcoal basin is far away?”
Zhou Zhuying pointed to her bed. “Kindling!” Then she pointed at the charcoal basin. “Fire.”
Finally, she pointed at herself. “As the saying goes, ‘Like kindling and fire,’ an insatiable desire can overwhelm a person.”
Xiao Xinyue: “…”
She left with a cold expression.
If I ever believe anything serious comes out of Zhou Zhuying’s mouth again, I will not set foot in this place again!
