After Unbinding the Simp System, I'm Targeted by the Villain - Chapter 2
Twenty minutes later, Yu Chucheng arrived on time at the internet cafe Ji Zhou had specified.
He flopped into a wide gaming chair, stretched his arms comfortably, and felt the familiar touch of a computer keyboard for the first time in a while.
Ji Zhou’s brows were locked in a tight frown. Watching his best friend stretch like a satisfied cat, he finally couldn’t hold it back anymore.
“Hey, where’s the ring you bought?”
“Tossed it.”
“What about the flowers I helped you pick out?”
“Thrown away.”
“Have you lost your mind?! You’re so happy that if I didn’t know better, I’d think you were marrying Hao Jia tomorrow!”
Yu Chucheng was sprayed with a face full of spit. He expressionlessly tapped the keys to log into his game account. “I haven’t lost my mind. From today on, your ‘father’ is officially retiring from his career as a devoted simp. I’m standing up for myself from now on.”
Ji Zhou let out a skeptical huff, looking as if the sun had risen from the west.
He and Yu Chucheng had been high school classmates and seatmates for three years; they were tight.
Yu Chucheng came from a wealthy background and was very handsome. Even though he was a Beta, his popularity back in school rivaled that of the “School Grass” (most handsome boy). Everything had gone smoothly for him for nineteen years. The only thing that had ever baffled Ji Zhou was why, in their second year of high school, Yu Chucheng had suddenly fallen for an Omega in their class named Hao Jia.
The kicker was that even though Hao Jia didn’t care about him, Yu Chucheng had willingly become his simp. He brought Hao Jia breakfast every day. When Hao Jia’s friends acted cold toward him, the idiot even started bringing breakfast for the friends the next day too.
That spirit of “repaying malice with kindness” was truly tragic.
Over the last two years, Ji Zhou had tried to pull his friend back countless times, but Yu Chucheng was as stubborn as a mule. You couldn’t talk sense into him.
By now, Ji Zhou had gone numb. He had long since given up on “reforming” Yu Chucheng. He assumed that even if Yu Chucheng were rejected tonight, he’d just pick himself up from where he fell and continue showering Hao Jia with warmth and concern.
But for some reason—perhaps the blow tonight was too great—Yu Chucheng had actually woken up on his own.
“Hurry up! What are you daydreaming for?” Yu Chucheng popped open Ji Zhou’s cola and urged him.
Ji Zhou shook himself out of it.
Fine. Whatever the reason, as long as his bro stopped being a fool, it was fine.
Yu Chucheng couldn’t remember the last time he’d played so freely. He led Ji Zhou through the game, slaughtering everyone in their path, and quickly climbed back to his original rank.
In the cafe, the sounds of clicking keyboards and teammates cursing at each other rose and fell in waves.
Yu Chucheng yawned and rubbed his eyes. It was 3:30 AM.
He swiveled his chair and kicked Ji Zhou, who was busy watching a livestream. “I’m hungry. I didn’t eat anything tonight.”
Ji Zhou didn’t even turn his head; he just tossed his phone over. “Order delivery yourself if you’re hungry.”
This friend of his was high-maintenance and picky; he wouldn’t touch the instant noodles served at the cafe.
Yu Chucheng scrolled through the phone for a long time, eventually ordering over a hundred yuan worth of BBQ like a starving ghost.
“Thanks.” Yu Chucheng stood up and stretched his aching neck. “Where’s the bathroom? I’m gonna go hit the head.”
Ji Zhou: “Go to the end and turn left.”
Yu Chucheng nodded and scrolled through his own phone as he walked.
He’d been so focused on the game that he hadn’t noticed several messages on his phone.
One was from his older brother, Yu Jingchen.
Yu Jingchen: 【Why is there suddenly 300,000 missing from your card? Did you spend it on that guy surnamed Hao again?】
There were two sons in the Yu family. Yu Jingchen had been a top student since childhood—the perfect “comparison child” to Yu Chucheng. He was already managing the family company and held the leash on Yu Chucheng’s finances.
As the ultimate “younger brother complex” sufferer, Yu Jingchen found Hao Jia completely eyesore. Usually, he’d give Yu Chucheng as much money as he asked for, but if it was for Hao Jia, he wouldn’t get a single cent.
This time, Yu Chucheng had learned his lesson and didn’t ask his brother for money; he used his own allowance instead. However, the sharp Yu Jingchen had sensed it immediately. Only a few hours after the money was spent, the interrogation had arrived.
Yu Chucheng curled his lip. He didn’t think he needed to make Hao Jia out to be a villain; after all, he had been the one who “voluntarily” chose to be a simp.
Yu Chucheng: 【No, don’t worry Brother. I won’t spend money recklessly anymore.】
After replying to his brother, the rest of the messages were from Hao Jia.
Hao Jia: 【Chucheng, did you not come home tonight? It looks like no one is at your place. Is everything okay?】
Hao Jia: 【I know you’re mad at me. I’m sorry. But you’re a Beta and I’m an Omega—we have no future.】
Hao Jia: 【I picked up the ring for you. It must be very expensive. Let me know when you’re back, okay?】
If this were the past, Yu Chucheng would have immediately replied: How could I ever be mad at you?
But now, Yu Chucheng planned to leave him on read for a while.
After all, Hao Jia used to leave him on read for half a day all the time. Now that he was free from the Simp System, shouldn’t he enjoy himself? He could explain things to Hao Jia tomorrow.
Yu Chucheng happily pocketed his phone.
Just as he stepped into a stall, before he could even undo his belt, he felt something was wrong.
The guy in the stall next to him was breathing… a bit too loud.
Not just loud, but heavy and ragged, as if he were in great pain.
Yu Chucheng paused and called out, “Hey, you okay? Do you need me to call a doctor?”
The breathing next door hitched for a second. But the next moment, the person inside slumped against the partition, making the door on Yu Chucheng’s side rattle.
Holy crap!
Yu Chucheng was startled.
As a Beta, he couldn’t smell the pheromones that were reaching explosive concentrations in the bathroom, but he guessed the person was either in heat or a rut.
Yu Chucheng knocked on the door panel. “Hey, are you an Alpha or an Omega? I’m calling an ambulance. Open the door and I’ll take you to a private room.”
Hiding in a bathroom wasn’t a solution; if someone else came in and got affected, it would be a mess.
Trading on his status as a “safe” Beta, Yu Chucheng planned to help. After all, he was a helpful, model citizen.
The lock clicked open.
Yu Chucheng was about to ask if the person could stand, but before he could speak, a hand grabbed his collar and yanked him inside.
Yu Chucheng: “???”
Wait, what is this?
The person inside was incredibly strong. Due to the momentum, Yu Chucheng slammed into the wall, his entire back going numb with pain.
“Ugh—!”
He bit his lip and looked up, only to realize the person in rut was the server from the internet cafe.
The server was tall, wearing the black uniform of the cafe, with messy hair slightly covering his eyes.
Yet, even that couldn’t hide the sharpness of his features—especially those eyes. They were deep and dark, like a pool of ink that could easily see through others while remaining unreadable itself.
Besides the eyes, his high nose and thin lips added an air of cold detachment. Only a small mole near the corner of his eye slightly softened his imposing appearance.
Yu Chucheng froze.
This guy is seriously handsome.
But the way this handsome guy was looking at him was strange—as if he were looking at something filthy, yet also as if he had seen him somewhere before.
Yu Chucheng gave a dry laugh to break the silence. “Uh, if you really don’t want to move, that’s fine. I’ll go get some suppressants for you.”
The server didn’t speak.
Yu Chucheng felt a bit intimidated by that intense, unblinking gaze. Although he didn’t know why he felt guilty, instinct drove him to inch slowly toward the door.
At that moment—
The server suddenly reached out, pinned Yu Chucheng’s shoulders, and shoved him back against the partition.
“What—What are you do—hiss!” Before Yu Chucheng could finish, a sharp, unbearable pain shot through his smooth nape.
This guy is trying to mark me!
Yu Chucheng’s eyes widened, and he began to struggle violently. “Hey! Look clearly! I’m a Beta! Mmph…”
A hand with well-defined knuckles covered Yu Chucheng’s mouth. Sharp canines pierced his skin. Pheromones that had been suppressed for too long roared as they broke free, sweeping through the bathroom with a crazed intensity.
It hurts!
Yu Chucheng’s eyes instantly clouded with tears.
He never expected that in this lifetime, he would personally experience what it felt like for a Beta to be bitten.
All he could say was: this sucks.
His legs went weak, and he almost slipped. The Alpha’s strength was too much. He opened his mouth but couldn’t make a sound, only managed a few muffled whimpers from his throat.
“Shit, what’s that smell?!”
“Who the hell is in heat in there? Have some decency!”
At the bathroom entrance, several people who had come to use the facilities were choked by the thick, warning pheromones and began to curse.
A flash of clarity and hesitation flickered in the Alpha’s eyes.
Yu Chucheng seized the chance, slammed his elbow back to break free, and bolted out without even stopping to wipe his tears.
