After Unbinding the Simp System, I'm Targeted by the Villain - Chapter 3
Ji Zhou had just returned from the front desk with two packs of cigarettes when he saw Yu Chucheng grabbing his jacket off the chair, looking ready to bolt.
“Hey, what are you doing? The delivery hasn’t even arrived yet!”
Yu Chucheng’s face was pale, and his hands shook as he threw on his clothes. “My brother needs me for something. I’m heading back first.”
Ji Zhou: “…”
Listen to this guy. Does he think I’m stupid? Who calls someone for “business” in the middle of the night?
Ji Zhou noticed that the corners of Yu Chucheng’s eyes were flush red and there were still drying tear tracks on his face. He asked in shock, “You cried?!”
As much as Yu Chucheng enjoyed his “simp” lifestyle, Ji Zhou had never seen him shed a tear.
“What exactly happened tonight? Did Hao Jia bring people to bully you?” Ji Zhou tossed the cigarettes onto the desk, growing frantic.
“No, I just… I feel a bit sick. I’m going back,” Yu Chucheng said hoarsely. “I’ll transfer the money for the food to you later.”
He couldn’t exactly tell Ji Zhou that he’d tried to be a Good Samaritan in the bathroom only to get bitten. That was far too bizarre and humiliating.
Leaving a bewildered Ji Zhou behind, Yu Chucheng fumbled with his phone to hail a ride.
He went straight back to the Fengshan Villa. The moment he arrived, he locked himself in his room upstairs.
Shit, what’s going on…
It was just one bite from an Alpha. Why wouldn’t his body stop shaking? His hands and feet were icy, and no matter how much he bundled up, he couldn’t get warm.
Yu Chucheng buried himself under the covers, his head spinning as he repeatedly touched his nape.
The teeth marks were still clearly visible.
That damn brat, Yu Chucheng cursed inwardly.
He curled into a ball, but unlike his freezing limbs, his breath was beginning to grow hot—a fever was clearly on the way.
No, it’s still too cold. Why is this room like an icebox?
Yu Chucheng reached out from under the quilt and fumbled around the nightstand until he found the remote, cranking the AC temperature up a few more degrees.
The next morning, it was Yu Jingchen who discovered Yu Chucheng had returned.
As the elder brother, he had doted on his sibling since they were children. Now that Yu Chucheng was older and no longer as clingy, Yu Jingchen still made it a point to personally wake him for breakfast.
“Chucheng, are you awake?”
Yu Jingchen knocked twice, but there was no response.
A nearby maid said with a smile, “The Young Master came home late last night; he’s likely sleeping in.”
Yu Jingchen took a deep breath.
Ever since his brother became obsessed with that Hao Jia, he spent every waking moment away from home. He had even rented a dilapidated dump in the city center just to work odd jobs alongside Hao Jia.
Now that he had finally come home, he was hiding in his room sleeping. Yu Jingchen had to head to the office soon; if he didn’t see him now, he’d miss him again.
“Forget it. Warm up a glass of milk for when he wakes. Remember, not too hot—just lukewarm.”
Yu Jingchen gave his instructions and turned to head downstairs.
Suddenly, a faint, sweet scent drifted past his nose.
This was… the smell of an Omega’s pheromones?!
Yu Jingchen’s expression sharpened instantly. He threw open the bedroom door without hesitation.
“Chucheng!”
Inside the room, Yu Chucheng had rolled off the bed while wrapped in his quilt. His face was flushed, and his skin was as hot as a boiled shrimp. Even so, he was still shivering, trying to wrap himself tighter.
“Are you trying to suffocate yourself?!” Yu Jingchen’s pupils constricted as he rushed forward to gather his brother in his arms.
The room was filled with threads of a sweet, fruity fragrance, all radiating from Yu Chucheng.
Being an Alpha himself, Yu Jingchen had to hold his breath. He roared at the maid by the door: “Call the family doctor, now!”
“A-ah! Yes!” The maid snapped out of her shock and frantically reached for her phone.
Yu Chucheng was unconscious for a full day and night before he finally woke up.
During that time, he ran a high fever that kept the villa staff running in circles.
When he finally opened his eyes, Yu Chucheng stared at the ceiling for a long time.
He felt as if he had fallen into a strange maze and couldn’t find the exit. Even though he was awake, his limbs felt weak and his nape throbbed with a dull ache, like he had just run a marathon.
Seeing him awake, a maid hurried to inform the doctor.
A moment later, the family doctor arrived with a massive entourage: Yu Jingchen, Mr. Yu, and Mrs. Yu.
Yu Chucheng looked at the crowd and scratched his hair in confusion. “Dad, Mom? Why are you guys back?”
Mrs. Yu sat by the bed and grabbed his hand. She and her husband had flown back from France overnight and hadn’t slept a wink.
“Chengcheng, do you still feel sick? Is there any discomfort?”
Yu Chucheng: “I… I’m fine now. It was just a fever, no big deal.”
The family doctor pushed up his glasses. “It wasn’t a simple fever. It was a fever caused by a Secondary Differentiation.”
Seeing Yu Chucheng frozen in place, Mrs. Yu gently patted the back of his hand. “Mama knows this is hard to believe, but ‘late-age differentiation’ isn’t unheard of. The doctor said you were ‘induced’ into differentiating by the pheromones of an Alpha…”
“Hold on.” A massive amount of information flooded his brain, and Yu Chucheng caught the most important part. “Are you saying… I differentiated into an Omega?”
The doctor nodded. “Yes. An S-Rank Omega, to be precise. Your pheromones are peach-scented.”
Crack. Yu Chucheng sat petrified on the bed, and then his soul effectively shattered.
You’ve got to be kidding me! I don’t want to be an Omega!
What was wrong with being a Beta? You had endless money to spend, no annoying heat cycles, and you could date any of the three genders.
He used to mock Ji Zhou and the other Alphas for their ruts—having to stay indoors for a few days every month—and now he’d woken up as an Omega?!
“Is it too much of a shock?” Mrs. Yu looked at her husband with concern.
“Probably. Let him process it on his own for a bit. Let’s head out.”
Mr. and Mrs. Yu left the room, but Yu Jingchen stepped forward, his hand gripping the headboard of Yu Chucheng’s bed.
“Who was the Alpha that bit you?”
Yu Jingchen sounded furious.
Yu Chucheng felt a bit intimidated by the stare, but he stiffened his neck. “Don’t, Brother. I’ll handle my own business.”
He didn’t dare tell his brother it had happened at an internet cafe, or Yu Jingchen would go over and level the building.
“You’ll handle it? How? Make him take responsibility?” Yu Jingchen was seething. “Is he even worthy?”
“Not a chance,” Yu Chucheng said.
That “puppy” had caused him to suffer a massive loss on the very first day of his new life. He was definitely going to find him to settle the score and let him know that Yu Chucheng was not someone to be messed with.
That afternoon, Yu Chucheng took a suppressant, hired a few thugs, and marched into the internet cafe with aggressive intent.
The cafe was dimly lit and noisy; the smell of cigarettes and instant noodles hung in the air.
Perhaps because he was now an Omega, Yu Chucheng could faintly smell various pheromones.
There were many people surfing the web and plenty of servers, but Yu Chucheng spotted the man who bit him instantly.
He stood out too much.
Yu Chucheng grit his teeth and stepped forward, unceremoniously grabbing the man.
Even though he was nearly half a head shorter than the server, Yu Chucheng wouldn’t let his momentum falter. He grabbed the man’s collar in front of everyone. “You brat, get out here!”
The gamers nearby turned their heads to see a group of thugs surrounding a server, pushing him toward the back exit following their leader.
The crowd looked away just as quickly.
It was an internet cafe; occasional conflicts were normal.
A muscular thug with tattooed sleeves shoved the server into the back alley.
It was narrow and dark; the external AC units dripped water incessantly.
Yu Chucheng found a clean spot to stand and yanked his own collar down.
His fair, smooth nape was exposed to the air. The teeth marks had almost faded, but the lingering Alpha pheromones silently proclaimed the crime.
“Thanks to you, I went through secondary differentiation and became an Omega,” Yu Chucheng said crossly. “Let’s talk about how you’re going to settle this debt.”
Hearing the words “secondary differentiation,” the server’s eyelashes flickered. His dark, unreadable gaze fell upon that dazzlingly white stretch of neck.
Yu Chucheng lifted his chin. “What’s your name?”
The server’s voice was deep. “Duan Huaijin.”
The alley went silent for a moment.
That name sounds incredibly familiar.
Yu Chucheng’s expression stiffened. “Say that again… what is your name?”
