Amnesia Trap (GL) - Chapter 12
She slightly narrowed her upturned cat-eyes and looked at Ji Qingfan with a great show of bravado, but the words she was about to utter were swallowed by the contact that followed.
After all, everyone had drunk a bit too much. Even though they had been hesitant to make a sound a moment ago, now that they saw the scene, they completely forgot their reservations. The atmosphere hit, and they began to cheer loudly again, whistling and clapping their hands.
Sheng Zhi turned her head slightly when she heard the noise, and in the next second, she felt Ji Qingfan lightly bite her. All she seemed to hear was Ji Qingfan’s soft, slightly hurried voice by her ear: “How can you be distracted at a moment like this?”
Ji Qingfan didn’t use much force; the bite didn’t hurt. But Sheng Zhi suddenly felt more annoyed. She didn’t know how Ji Qingfan found her here, and she didn’t want to think about it at that moment.
The one-minute penalty card.
The inexplicable emotions that had built up since that bizarre kiss seemed to fully release at this moment. At the sixth second, she gently held the back of Ji Qingfan’s neck. As if to conceal her inexperience, her actions carried a sense of recklessness.
It was completely disorderly and unskilled, yet it intensely stirred one’s nerves.
“Zhi Zhi…” Ji Qingfan struggled to breathe, vaguely calling her name.
A more delicate sound was muffled in her throat, and the curve beneath her collarbone trembled with her disordered breathing.
Whether it was the alcohol or some other reason, when Sheng Zhi heard Ji Qingfan call her name, she couldn’t help but recall the woman’s aloof demeanor when they were at odds. Back then, she would always utter her name in a cold tone, as if the two words “Sheng Zhi” were laced with ice shards.
She still hated Ji Qingfan, detested her without reserve, or else she wouldn’t have been her enemy for so long, arguing day and night.
But now, the pitiful, muffled sounds, the saliva she couldn’t swallow in time, and her utterly defenceless appearance gave Sheng Zhi a peculiar feeling, bordering on dizzying fascination.
Sensing Ji Qingfan trembling and trying to pull back, she subconsciously raised her other hand and non-negotiably encircled her waist.
Her fingertips inadvertently brushed heavily against the hollow of Ji Qingfan’s lower back.
Ji Qingfan pressed her hands against Sheng Zhi’s shoulders, a thin layer of tears welling up in the corners of her eyes, making them misty.
Her actions clearly showed resistance and a desire to escape, yet her expression and gaze were entirely hazy, her head slightly tilted, accepting whatever was given, even inviting and encouraging Sheng Zhi to go further. It was as if no matter how outrageous Sheng Zhi became, Ji Qingfan couldn’t escape and could only accept everything in her embrace.
“Did the penalty time exceed one minute?” someone suddenly mentioned amidst the fluctuating cheers.
Sheng Zhi belatedly realized what she was doing, and the lingering tipsiness instantly cleared up.
Her gaze fell on Ji Qingfan’s slightly swollen, inviting, and rosy lips. The scene from moments ago seemed to flash through her mind.
Sheng Zhi was stunned for a second, then her expression changed, and she felt her scalp tingle.
Before anyone could react, she directly half-dragged, half-pulled Ji Qingfan—who was weak-kneed and unsteady—out of the room.
As the door slammed shut, they could still hear the woman’s light, trailing hum: “Zhi Zhi, slow down. Jie Jie can’t keep up…”
However, unlike when she first arrived, her tone sounded much more pleased.
The remaining people in the private room were taken aback by the sudden turn of events. They looked at each other, stunned and bewildered after the intense atmosphere—
“Wait a minute, so Sheng Zhi drew a penalty card to kiss someone, and then Ji Qingfan showed up, and then…?”
“Right, but if I remember correctly, they’re in an arranged marriage, and privately, they’re supposed to be sworn enemies with a bad relationship.”
Yet, not only did Ji Qingfan show up, but they also kissed so passionately in public?
What kind of bad relationship between sworn enemies was this?
No one voiced it out loud, but everyone present simultaneously thought the same thing.
Even after pulling Ji Qingfan out of the private room, Sheng Zhi’s beautiful and captivating face was flushed as if smeared with rouge, making it hard to tell if it was anger or shame.
…Crazy, absolutely crazy!
She had just kissed Ji Qingfan for that long.
The slap she gave Ji Qingfan earlier felt like it was returned to her own face now. That time, she could claim she was unwilling, but what about this time? They even openly… right in front of all her friends.
A person shouldn’t fall into the same trap twice, yet she had fallen deeper the second time.
Especially when she thought of Ji Qingfan’s ease in kissing her, and her effortless sweet talk, Sheng Zhi instantly despised herself even more. Two kisses had thrown her into disarray. Ji Qingfan must be feeling very smug right now, right?
This despicable, scheming, fox-like woman! She had made a complete fool of herself, and she wanted to kill her right now.
Sheng Zhi was raging inside, but listening to Ji Qingfan’s repeated pleas to slow down, her pace ultimately did slow.
They walked until they reached the corner of the outside corridor, where the deafening noise from the private room gradually faded, replaced by the soft flow of music.
A woman’s voice humming in the air was low and lingering.
Sheng Zhi let go of Ji Qingfan’s hand and gently sighed, deciding to strike first: “Ji Qingfan, you…”
However, Sheng Zhi’s pace, which wasn’t fast for her, was still too hurried for Ji Qingfan. The sudden stop made her cough involuntarily, interrupting Sheng Zhi’s words.
Ji Qingfan lightly covered her mouth with one hand, panting rapidly. As if feeling too vulnerable, she turned slightly away, coughing while intermittently apologizing for interrupting her: “Zhi Zhi, don’t mind me, just keep talking. I’m listening.”
In the not-too-bright light of the corridor corner, Sheng Zhi clearly saw the fragile, flushed colour around the corners of Ji Qingfan’s eyes due to the persistent coughing.
Just then, a waiter passed by. Pausing for a second, Sheng Zhi completely forgot her plan to strike first. Instead, she inexplicably stopped the waiter and asked for a glass of warm water.
As soon as she received it, Sheng Zhi almost shoved the glass into Ji Qingfan’s hand with a forceful, unreasonable movement. A few drops of water spilled out during the process.
At the same time, she crossed her arms, averted her gaze, and sneered coldly: “Spare me. If you cough yourself to death later, I’m not cleaning up your mess.”
The cup holding the warm water heated her palm, and a few sips of the warm, smooth water soothed the uncomfortable feeling in her throat completely.
Sheng Zhi kept Ji Qingfan in her peripheral vision even after looking away. She thought Ji Qingfan was really weak. Noticing the way she drank the water in small, continuous sips, she couldn’t help but wonder how she used to drink. At this speed, a rabbit would drink faster than her, right? Her thoughts scattered further. She thought about their kiss. Although she really didn’t want to admit it, Ji Qingfan’s lips were much softer to kiss than her personality was when they were fighting. And hugging her was…
Just as she was thinking, she heard Ji Qingfan’s voice, very soft and full of affection.
Ji Qingfan held the cup, lowered her eyelashes, and smiled: “Zhi Zhi, you still subconsciously care about me, just like before you lost your memory. That’s good.”
Sheng Zhi’s wandering thoughts were yanked back by her words.
When called by a nickname, a person always subconsciously turns to meet the other person’s gaze. But what first entered Sheng Zhi’s sight was Ji Qingfan’s lips, glistening and moist from having just drunk water.
Her lips were vibrant and tempting, and it was then that Sheng Zhi noticed the small wounds on them, looking like they had been bitten—perhaps the “like” could be removed.
Just looking at them made her blush fiercely.
So, even before Sheng Zhi could fully hear what Ji Qingfan said, she instantly felt her cheeks heat up. The warmth seemed to spread all the way to her neck.
Although she clearly knew Ji Qingfan didn’t have telepathy and couldn’t know what she had just been thinking, in that moment, she had a strange illusion that her inner thoughts had been caught by the person in question. When she heard Ji Qingfan say the word “subconsciously,” she couldn’t help but recall how Ji Qingfan had said the same thing after the last kiss—that her subconscious reaction was “very indulgent” and asked if she secretly liked it.
“Zhi Zhi, where are you looking? Your face is so red,” not getting a reply, Ji Qingfan looked at her, thoughtfully touching her own lips. “Are you looking here?”
If she hadn’t pointed it out, it might have been fine, but when she did, Sheng Zhi started to feel restless all over. Her eyes under her curled eyelashes darted around, and she retorted rashly: “Who told you to bite me first?”
Ji Qingfan was momentarily startled, then couldn’t help but laugh softly.
Sheng Zhi only realized after speaking that Ji Qingfan hadn’t asked her that. Once she realized it, she became even more furious and embarrassed, snapping: “Besides, I told you I was meeting friends before I came. You still chased after me. Who gave you the right to control me?”
The more she spoke, the more assertive she became, as if this could completely cover up the fact that she had been utterly charmed by Ji Qingfan in those few moments.
“I don’t believe I’m the type to be obedient just because I’m married. I don’t have any memories of being in love with you. As far as I’m concerned, I can kiss whoever I want. Even if I get drunk and go to a hotel with someone else, it’s none of your business.”
She pouted inwardly as she spoke.
If it weren’t for the risk of giving herself away, she really wanted to ask Ji Qingfan if she was tired of acting. They were never close. After their marriage, Ji Qingfan was never clingy in private and was incredibly cold, only putting on a show when they appeared together.
Yet now she was all tenderness, including the hazy look in her eyes during their kiss just now… Who knew if that was also an act?
In fact, if it were someone who had genuinely lost their memory, they would likely feel unjustified and unable to lose their temper in this situation.
But Sheng Zhi not only lost her temper but also felt terribly wronged afterwards. Her personality was just like that—she could be incredibly kind when she wanted to, but she could also throw a fit whenever she felt like it, indulging her every whim.
She was purely spoiled.
She was also used to everyone tolerating her temper, so she felt free to express it however she wanted.
Not to mention that Ji Qingfan was clearly still trying to act and convince her that they were deeply in love. Since Ji Qingfan was trying to “win her over,” she would definitely be more accommodating.
Sure enough, when Ji Qingfan heard her say this, the smile on her face faded. A hint of perfectly timed hurt flashed in her expression, but as Sheng Zhi expected, she didn’t say anything to argue.
She just murmured to herself: “Was I controlling too much, then…?”
“You’re right. It’s normal that Zhi Zhi can’t accept these things since you have no memory. I should have adjusted my own feelings sooner. You must feel pressured with me constantly hovering around you these past few days, right? I won’t put you under so much pressure in the coming days.”
Sheng Zhi looked at her sorrowful expression suspiciously, not quite believing that she would change her tune so easily.
She had prepared herself for a confrontation, but Ji Qingfan instead directly admitted she shouldn’t be so controlling.
It felt like she had exerted all her strength only to hit cotton wool; something felt missing.
Sheng Zhi looked at her for a long time, saying dismissively: “You better stick to that.”
A joke. Ji Qingfan wasn’t anyone special to her.
It was best if she didn’t cling to her. Her agreeing to the one-month proposal while hospitalized was ultimately due to boredom. Now that she was discharged, there were so many fun things and sources of amusement. She would consider tormenting Ji Qingfan a waste of time!
It was probably just her lack of experience with intimate contact that made Ji Qingfan’s kiss make her restless.
In any case, any reaction she had was simply a normal physiological response, and absolutely not because she had feelings for Ji Qingfan.
