Amnesia Trap (GL) - Chapter 2
Consciousness drifted in a pool of darkness, bringing a suffocating and hazy feeling, much like drowning.
Sheng Zhi vaguely regained some awareness, only to feel a splitting headache. An overwhelming sense of dizziness completely engulfed her, making everything spin and causing a wave of physiological nausea.
The memories in her mind spun like a kaleidoscope, frame after frame flashing quickly past, only to be abruptly ended by the sharp blare of horns and the loud crash of a car collision.
Sheng Zhi’s eyelids moved. She vaguely recalled that she had been in a car accident.
Along with that thought came the last thing Ji Qingfan had said before the crash—”Sheng Zhi, from a long-term benefit perspective, let’s extend the agreement period.”
That single sentence, lingering in her memory, was like a devil’s whisper in her ear, instantly jolting Sheng Zhi fully awake.
She opened her eyes, finally pulling herself out of the deep, watery haze and surfacing.
The smell of disinfectant was strong in the air. As soon as Sheng Zhi’s mind cleared, her first instinct was to move her eyes to see if her hands were injured and if her legs could still move. However, having just woken up from a coma, her head was throbbing and spinning, and her vision was blurry, unable to focus properly.
Just then, a voice she was extremely familiar with suddenly sounded next to her ear.
“Your hands and legs are fine, but you have a concussion. I’ve just called the doctor. They will perform another check soon.”
Sheng Zhi slowly turned her gaze toward the bedside, feeling like a robot about to break down.
The woman guarding her bedside spoke with a subtle, forcefully suppressed tremor in her voice, her expression not quite visible.
But wasn’t that Ji Qingfan? She would recognize that voice even if it were reduced to ashes!
“You…” Sheng Zhi parted her lips, but just as she managed to utter a single word, that feeling of physiological sickness and nausea immediately rushed back.
Her face couldn’t help but turn pale. The thought of the embarrassing sight of throwing up in front of Ji Qingfan made her forcibly suppress the nausea.
Afraid that she wouldn’t be able to control herself and would actually vomit if she spoke, Sheng Zhi simply clenched her mouth shut, closed her eyes again, and feigned a poor state. This wasn’t entirely an act; her condition really wasn’t great. Her head was wrapped in a bandage, and her complexion was indeed very weak.
Sheng Zhi had no clear memory of the car accident itself, but it had actually been a very dangerous one.
Fortunately, apart from the concussion and some superficial external injuries, she hadn’t suffered anything more severe.
The car that hit theirs was driven by a drunk male driver. Real-time surveillance showed that the person had clearly had a lot to drink, crashing into several cars in a reckless manner. Afterward, he not only fled the scene but also nearly drove onto the sidewalk, causing several more accidents.
It was truly fortunate. The mere thought of the scene at the time was terrifying.
The doctor quickly performed another check on Sheng Zhi. The results showed no major issues with her body, but the symptoms caused by the concussion would take at least a few days to recover.
Sheng Zhi had been awake for a while and had heard every word the doctor said.
The symptoms caused by the concussion were uncomfortable, but after resting for a while, she was already much better than when she first woke up.
The clothes she was wearing were, naturally, not the ones she had on during the accident. The outside layer had been changed to comfortable and neat hospital clothes, and her innerwear had also been changed.
It wasn’t a perfect fit; it was a little large. Sheng Zhi had taken the opportunity to secretly glance at it when Ji Qingfan followed the doctor out. It was a design of transparent mesh and delicate lace. It didn’t look cheap; instead, it looked ethereal and expensive, but it was definitely not her size.
It was a bit too big compared to what she usually wore.
Her car accident was sudden. Ms. Sheng Xiyi was currently abroad. The Sheng family had a private jet, but private jets couldn’t take off at any time; they required advance filing. Although she immediately booked the fastest flight upon hearing the news, even the fastest flight was still en route, not to mention the time it would take to drive from the airport to the hospital.
Moreover, because it was so sudden, only a few people knew about her car accident.
Though Sheng Zhi didn’t want to admit it, by a twist of fate, the person truly guarding her bedside right now was only Ji Qingfan.
The ward door made a very faint sound. It was Ji Qingfan returning after following the doctor out.
The doctor nodded slightly, then gave a few more instructions before turning to leave. The instructions were all directed at Ji Qingfan, the patient’s family member.
Ji Qingfan listened very attentively.
Sheng Zhi lay on the hospital bed, not wanting to listen or look at all. The thought of having only Ji Qingfan by her side and being limited to contact with her made her uncomfortable, especially that sentence that kept circling in her mind—Ji Qingfan’s “wish to extend the agreement period.”
It was like a thorn.
How annoying. Didn’t protagonists in cliché soap operas often forget the other protagonist after a car accident and break up coldly? Why didn’t she get amnesia and forget Ji Qingfan after the car accident?
…Wait a minute.
Sheng Zhi suddenly realized something.
Right, she hadn’t actually lost her memory, but she could pretend to have amnesia and turn the tables.
Especially since the doctor who examined her kept mentioning a concussion; her symptoms didn’t seem too light.
Sheng Zhi was delighted by this flash of inspiration.
She truly was brilliant; this plan was simply ingenious!
She would just act like the cliché soap opera. The “amnesiac” her would have completely forgotten Ji Qingfan. At that point, not only would she not extend the agreement period, but she could also use this reason to cut off all daily contact with Ji Qingfan, since she “didn’t recognize” the other person anymore.
Extend the agreement? She absolutely did not want to maintain the relationship with Ji Qingfan any longer.
With that thought, Sheng Zhi opened her eyes.
The rare vulnerability brought on by her injury was the best natural camouflage at this moment. She glanced at the doctor’s retreating back and the closed ward door before turning her gaze to Ji Qingfan.
She was not surprised that Ji Qingfan had been watching over her and handled everything. Ji Qingfan was capable of enduring and acting. When superficial work was required, no one could do it more thoroughly than her. That’s why, despite their being an emotionless commercial marriage, outsiders rumored they had a good relationship.
Look at those slightly red eyes; it looked exactly as if she had cried from worrying too much about her.
Sheng Zhi scoffed inwardly, while on the surface, she showed a subtle, well-timed look of bewilderment, and attempted to sit up a bit.
She looked as if she was finally recovering somewhat but still seemed to be suffering from a severe headache.
She had only just moved when Ji Qingfan walked over and gently pressed down on her shoulder: “Don’t sit up right now after waking up. Keep lying flat.”
Hearing Ji Qingfan’s soft-toned instruction, Sheng Zhi actually wanted to snap back at her.
Not to mention that Ji Qingfan’s hand was resting right on her shoulder.
According to their past mode of interaction, she would have instantly turned hostile and, despite her dizziness, definitely slapped the other person’s hand away.
But what if she had “forgotten” Ji Qingfan?
If she had “forgotten” Ji Qingfan, she would feel bewildered, confused, and questioning about the current situation, but she definitely wouldn’t react so strongly.
With this thought, even though Ji Qingfan’s hand was still on her shoulder, Sheng Zhi did not lose her temper as before.
Her light-colored eyes moved slightly. With that one glance, she frowned and moved her body away to the side, as if feeling bewildered by the other person’s touch. Not only that, but her tone was only left with the coldness drawn out by the unfamiliarity: “You are…?”
Sheng Zhi’s plan was beautiful, and she was full of confidence in her “amnesia” performance. After all, there was no other relationship between her and Ji Qingfan besides a contractual marriage that had already expired. As long as Ji Qingfan answered, her goal would be achieved, and everything else would unfold exactly as she had envisioned.
But before she could even finish her sentence, the next second, she saw the beautiful woman in front of her first freeze, then immediately repeat her question: “Who am I?”
Ji Qingfan repeated these three words, seemingly unable to believe it. After repeating them a few times, her voice took on a trembling panic: “You really don’t remember me?”
When she received Sheng Zhi’s answer that she had no impression of her, she pursued the question repeatedly.
Sheng Zhi: “…”
Her first reaction was that Ji Qingfan had guessed she was faking amnesia, but looking at the other person’s expression, she didn’t seem to have guessed it, probably just finding it hard to believe.
So, was this reaction… an attempt to find flaws in her act?
Realizing this, Sheng Zhi acted even more convincingly. Her tone even carried a hint of annoyance due to the repeated questioning. After Ji Qingfan asked again, she impatiently spoke: “Why should I remember you? Are you someone important to me?”
As Sheng Zhi’s words fell, Ji Qingfan lowered her eyelids, seeming to finally confirm that she didn’t remember her.
She didn’t speak again, nor did Sheng Zhi. The air instantly fell silent.
After a moment of stagnation, the corners of the woman’s beautiful eyes suddenly became a vulnerable red.
“Yes,” she answered softly. When she looked up again, her eyes were already teary, the tears welling up but not falling. “I am your wife. We are very much in love.”
She spoke every word, her tone sounding utterly heartbroken, enough to move anyone to grief, as if her deeply loved partner had truly forgotten her after suffering amnesia—
“Newly married for half a year, deeply in love. We even slept in the same bed last night. You even said my waist was so sexy. Have you forgotten me already? You weren’t like this in bed last night.”
Sheng Zhi could understand every single word Ji Qingfan was saying individually, but the two non-short, non-long sentences combined left her needing a moment to process what Ji Qingfan was saying.
And after realizing the meaning of Ji Qingfan’s words, Sheng Zhi looked at the desolate moisture in Ji Qingfan’s eyes, feeling completely taken aback and panicked.
Good heavens, how can you act better than me?
The whole “newly married for half a year and deeply in love” thing was ridiculous enough, but as for sleeping in the same bed and praising a sexy waist… If I wasn’t faking amnesia, I almost would have believed it! We haven’t even kissed once, alright?!
Also, when were they ever “very much in love?”
Ji Qingfan, don’t be so absurd!!
