Amnesia Trap (GL) - Chapter 24
Ji Qingfan stood on the second floor, watching Sheng Zhi’s figure grow smaller and smaller in her view, then get into the car, until she completely disappeared.
Water was still dripping from her wet hair. In that short time, a small puddle had already formed on the floor.
She ignored it, lowering her gaze to the phone in her hand.
More accurately, Sheng Zhi’s phone.
Sheng Zhi’s phone had been damaged in the car accident. Ji Qingfan had matter-of-factly implanted a chip with GPS tracking functionality into her new phone.
However, chat history was something the chip couldn’t retrieve.
So, she had tampered with the spot where she had asked Sheng Zhi to put her phone, which led them to naturally take the wrong phones.
Ji Qingfan easily entered Sheng Zhi’s phone password.
As soon as she opened the messaging app, many messages with unread notifications popped up.
Ji Qingfan recalled the voice message that Sheng Zhi had accidentally played a little of in the car and precisely found the chat box between Sheng Zhi and Jiang Wanyin.
She watched their chat history expressionlessly, listening to each voice message one by one.
Finally, her gaze lingered on the message from Jiang Wanyin, who wanted to meet in a couple of days if they had time. Sheng Zhi’s reply to Jiang Wanyin was “Okay.”
…So annoying.
Her Zhi Zhi shouldn’t have her thoughts constantly preoccupied by this person.
She thought this.
But none of these thoughts could be revealed to Sheng Zhi.
The lessons from her school days were more than enough. If she lost control and revealed them again, Sheng Zhi would definitely run away, and she would lose her once more, completely.
Thinking of this scenario, Ji Qingfan’s hand, holding the phone, trembled slightly.
She could not lose her.
She had gone to so much effort to bring her back to her side.
How could she lose her again? How could she lose her again?
When her emotions felt like they were slipping out of control, she held her head and let out a soft sigh, a rough plan already forming in her mind.
She cleared the browsing history in the background, locked the screen again, and then used Sheng Zhi’s phone’s built-in voice assistant to dial her own phone number.
She couldn’t help but pause when she saw the contact name.
It clearly read: [Bad Woman] followed by a dog head emoji.
The first call didn’t connect. She patiently dialed a second time.
—The second call was answered.
Ji Qingfan spoke as if she had only just realized they had swapped phones: “Zhi Zhi, where are you now? Have you gone far? We took the wrong phones.”
Sheng Zhi had just gotten out of the car when Ji Qingfan called.
She hadn’t felt anything wrong while holding the phone, as she had been in a rush, but she felt it was a little strange when the caller ID showed [Jiao Jiao]. She certainly didn’t have a contact saved with that name.
Taking a closer look, she realized the phone wasn’t hers.
Since it wasn’t hers, it could only be Ji Qingfan’s.
But… what was [Jiao Jiao]? Was this the nickname Ji Qingfan had for her?
The woman’s voice on the other end was gentle, even laced with a hint of annoyance as she spoke.
“I was just blowing my hair dry, so I didn’t notice.”
The voice transmitted through the phone’s earpiece seemed softer than in reality. Hearing Ji Qingfan mention blowing her hair dry, the image of her not having a towel or clothes after her shower and Sheng Zhi handing them to her flashed through her mind…
The separate scenes connected, as if they truly were living together.
The hot steam and breaths that had agitated her seemed to linger on her skin.
Sheng Zhi didn’t realize her lips were curving upward. She instinctively followed up on Ji Qingfan’s words: “Well, with your delicate constitution, wouldn’t you catch a high fever if you didn’t dry your hair properly today?”
Hearing this, Ji Qingfan coughed, as if to protest: “Zhi Zhi, I’m not that delicate.”
She paused there for two seconds, seemingly trying to think of an example, but Sheng Zhi waited for nearly a minute without hearing any examples, and couldn’t help but chuckle.
“Stop trying to think of a way to prove it, or you won’t get any sleep tonight.”
She was clearly teasing her, but Ji Qingfan just laughed softly in response: “Then if I don’t sleep, will Zhi Zhi stay on the phone with me all night?”
It was a question, but it inexplicably sounded like a flirtatious plea, very intimate.
Sheng Zhi hadn’t walked away since picking up the call. Hearing her tone now, she paused.
Ji Qingfan didn’t seem overly fixated on her answer and continued: “But speaking of which, why did Zhi Zhi change my contact name to Bad Woman?”
Distracted by this, Sheng Zhi’s attention shifted to the latter question.
Sheng Zhi belatedly remembered the name she had changed for Ji Qingfan—if she remembered correctly, she had also added a dog head emoji—she didn’t want to explain, thinking it would sound too childish, so she countered with a question: “I haven’t even mentioned it yet. What do you mean by saving me as Jiao Jiao?”
Ji Qingfan neither confirmed nor denied it, her voice filled with a seductive, lingering breath that seemed designed to hook itself onto one’s heart: “But to me, Zhi Zhi is indeed very jiao (tender/delicate). So lovable, I just want to spoil you…”
Sheng Zhi hadn’t expected Ji Qingfan to say something like that. All the words she was preparing to say were caught in her throat, and she felt incredibly awkward.
Lovable and wants to spoil me…
“You’re so mushy,” she scoffed, tossing her hair. “Forget it. I didn’t look at the phone either. We can just switch back tomorrow morning.”
Saying this, Sheng Zhi realized something and quickly added a disclaimer: “Just so you know, I’m not going there to pick you up. I just want to quickly switch back to my phone.”
