Amnesia Trap (GL) - Chapter 4
Because Ji Qingfan was right beside her, even when Sheng Zhi turned away and closed her eyes, she still felt awkward and had an uncomfortable prickling sensation. However, having just woken up from a coma and not being in the best state, she drifted off to sleep unconsciously.
She slept straight through until the evening.
Before Sheng Zhi fell asleep, only Ji Qingfan was in the room, but when she woke up, there were many more people by her side—
Her mother, who was busy expanding overseas businesses, had returned. Jiang Wanyin, who was on a business trip in another city, had also arrived. There were also some other relatives and a group of people she had never met, all looking at her with overwhelming concern. Bouquets and gifts, meant as tokens of visitation and well wishes, were tightly packed together, covering more than one wall.
Seeing that Sheng Zhi was awake, everyone expressed their concern and then tactfully left one after another, leaving only Ms. Sheng Xiyi and Jiang Wanyin.
In fact, after sleeping, Sheng Zhi felt much better upon waking up.
However, this did not stop her from continuing to complain and say her head hurt and she felt awful. And when she acted spoiled, it made people even more worried. Ms. Sheng Xiyi, a powerful and decisive figure in the business world, was sitting by the bed, her eyes red-rimmed when facing her daughter. She dared not touch her, treating her like fragile porcelain. She only lightly patted her over the blanket, her voice filled with worry: “The doctor said you’ll be quite weak these few days and need more rest. Why don’t you sleep a little more, my dear?”
Jiang Wanyin, standing nearby, gently pinched Sheng Zhi’s cheek and chimed in: “That’s right, Zhi Zhi, you should rest well these few days. Leave anything that needs to be done to me. I’m here too.”
When she wasn’t being willful, Sheng Zhi was sweet and compliant, making her endlessly lovable. She nodded sweetly and looked around the room.
After a few glances, she put on a look of relief.
Sheng Zhi deliberately put on this expression.
—She had just been in a car accident, and those around her were the family and friends who cared about her the most. Seeing her look relieved, they would naturally ask her what was wrong with concern.
And with that question as a starting point, the following developments would be easy to set up.
Sheng Zhi leaned against the pillow, looking much more settled being surrounded by her mother and best friend, but her eyebrows were still slightly furrowed. Her tone seemed to slow down a little as she recalled: “Actually, I woke up once before, but there was only a strange woman by the bed then. She even claimed she and I were wives. It was completely nonsensical…”
Sheng Zhi had been truly asleep and didn’t know when her mother and friend had arrived.
She didn’t believe Ji Qingfan would fail to mention that she had forgotten her. Perhaps, she should say it would be a miracle if Ji Qingfan didn’t try to exploit the situation.
Sure enough, upon hearing her words, Ms. Sheng Xiyi’s expression changed slightly, and she then cautiously asked: “My dear, do you really not remember your Sister Ji?”
Hearing this, Sheng Zhi showed a confused, contemplative look: “Sister Ji? Was that strange woman actually my sister?”
Listening to Sheng Zhi’s relatively calm reply, Ms. Sheng Xiyi’s expression became distinctly more awkward: “No, not exactly. You are indeed married…”
Before she could finish her sentence, Sheng Zhi suddenly raised her hand and touched her head. Her demeanor looked very distressed, as if those few words had caused her some sort of shock.
Seeing this, Ms. Sheng Xiyi instantly stopped speaking and quickly said: “I’ll go talk to Xiao Ji later. Don’t force yourself to remember, my dear. These matters are not as important as your health.”
Sheng Zhi parted her lips, but perhaps due to the headache, her voice was very weak, and she finally only nodded listlessly.
Ms. Sheng Xiyi had only this one daughter. Although she was busy with work for many years, her busy schedule made her dote on her even more. She had always pampered and protected her daughter as she grew up. She was already heartbroken, and seeing Sheng Zhi in this state made her grief immeasurable. She immediately got up, ready to go out and make a phone call.
Jiang Wanyin tucked Sheng Zhi in, nodding to Ms. Sheng Xiyi: “Auntie, don’t worry. I’m here with Zhi Zhi.”
“Thank you, Wanyin.”
Sheng Zhi leaned on the pillow, still maintaining the weak posture of holding her head. In her heart, she assumed her mother was going to contact Ji Qingfan.
However, in the next second, the ward door opened from the outside.
Ms. Sheng Xiyi was just about to call Ji Qingfan, but instead, they ran into each other.
Compared to Ms. Sheng’s slight surprise, Ji Qingfan’s reaction was very natural. She first greeted her politely, then raised the insulated food container she was carrying, her gaze clear and gentle. “I stewed some soup for Zhi Zhi to drink. The doctor said it would help with her recovery, so it took me a little longer.”
As she spoke, her gaze also swept over, lingering on Sheng Zhi and then on Jiang Wanyin sitting by the bed.
Hearing her voice, Sheng Zhi’s fingers, hidden under the blanket, curled slightly in discomfort.
However, her thoughts were drawn to what Ji Qingfan had just said.
She subtly observed the situation out of the corner of her eye, noticing that Ji Qingfan was indeed holding a food container that looked a bit heavy.
…So, the reason she didn’t see Ji Qingfan when she woke up was because Ji Qingfan had gone back to make soup?
But as soon as that thought popped up, Sheng Zhi immediately dismissed it in her mind.
Ji Qingfan making soup for her? That was a fantasy, too impossible. She’d bet everything that the soup inside was either ordered to be made by someone else or simply bought.
She knew the truth, but her mother might actually fall for this, especially since they hadn’t shown any obvious signs of discord in front of her mother since the marriage. Coupled with Ji Qingfan’s usual skill at acting, if her mother were to believe that Ji Qingfan was very attentive to her and would definitely take good care of her, that would be a problem.
Sheng Zhi sounded an internal alarm.
Fortunately, the earlier groundwork had some effect. Ms. Sheng Xiyi hesitated for a moment but then directly spoke the carefully prepared words. Finally, she sighed: “Xiao Ji, your mother doesn’t mean anything else, but given the current situation, this is the only way. We also asked the doctor, and he said the possibility of her recovering her memory is indeed not very high.”
Ji Qingfan listened to her words and then suddenly curved her lips very slightly.
“But I have no intention of separating from Zhi Zhi.”
She set the food container down and walked to Sheng Zhi’s bedside, conveniently placing herself between Sheng Zhi and Jiang Wanyin.
With her long eyelashes slightly lowered, Ji Qingfan met Sheng Zhi’s gaze, her voice soft. This angle made her expression look incredibly sincere and deeply affectionate.
“It’s only amnesia. I believe that feeling of being in love still exists in her subconscious. If you still insist on separating from me after one month, then I won’t say anything further.”
“So, Zhi Zhi… will you give us one month?”
