An Inner Life of a Cold Beauty Omega Secretary - Chapter 10
Mu Zheng wanted to correct Ye Baiwei’s assumption, but she felt it was unnecessary. Explaining it specifically might give off the wrong impression; a “Scum Alpha” like Ye Baiwei would surely think she was hinting at something. She decided to simply let the assumption stand.
However, thinking about it now, she realized she hadn’t picked out clothes for Fang Ran in a long time. Aside from when they first got together—when the two of them would go shopping hand-in-hand—Fang Ran was too picky, so she would ask Mu Zheng to help her choose. Over time, basically everything Fang Ran wore came from Mu Zheng’s hand.
But later, as she followed Ye Baiwei everywhere and stayed constantly busy, she had no time to pick clothes for Fang Ran. Most of the time, she would just transfer money to Fang Ran and let her choose for herself. Or, once Fang Ran picked something out, Mu Zheng would pay for it.
“I don’t.”
The expression on Ye Baiwei’s face froze for a moment; she clearly didn’t believe Mu Zheng’s words. “Is it that you’re too embarrassed to say, Secretary Mu, or just embarrassed to say it in front of me?”
Mu Zheng looked at her and asked, “Is there a difference between the two?”
Uh… it seemed there really wasn’t a difference.
Ye Baiwei felt a bit awkward, but as a corporate slave of nearly ten years, she did possess the skill of being thick-skinned. She quickly regained her previous unbothered expression.
“Looking at it this way, did I guess correctly, Secretary Mu?”
If Ye Baiwei weren’t her boss, Mu Zheng would have slapped the clothes directly onto Ye Baiwei’s face by now. For an Alpha to pry into an Omega’s private romantic life was inherently hooligan behavior; furthermore, for Ye Baiwei to do it as a boss to a subordinate was the ultimate “hooligan among hooligans” move!
Mu Zheng detested being asked such things at work. However, given that a “scum” like Ye Baiwei was incapable of changing her ways, showing her disgust would only fall on deaf ears. In the end, it would only result in Mu Zheng making herself angry—a complete loss.
“You guessed correctly, President Ye.”
Ye Baiwei detected the reluctance in Mu Zheng’s tone. There shouldn’t have been anything wrong with her question just now, yet Mu Zheng’s tone was clearly six parts reluctance, three parts dislike, and one part displeasure.
To summarize: Mu Zheng was extremely dissatisfied with the question just now, but because Ye Baiwei was her boss, she didn’t openly show her revulsion. Or rather, Mu Zheng had developed a habit of dealing with the original Ye Baiwei’s inquiries with nothing but perfunctory responses.
In reality, she hated it deep down.
“Talk human to humans and ghost to ghosts”—the job of a secretary really wasn’t easy.
Ye Baiwei felt this sincerely from the bottom of her heart.
“I’ve finished changing. It is indeed a bit small. Have your manager make me a new set. Once it’s ready, have someone deliver it to my place; you should know the address.”
The male and female clerks bowed, saying in unison, “Certainly, President Ye.”
Finally, when it came time to pay, Ye Baiwei almost coughed up blood from the sight of the long string of digits being swiped from her card. She couldn’t help but roast wildly in her mind: truly, the world of the rich makes no sense; a custom suit is actually this damn expensive!
The original Ye Baiwei was such a spendthrift woman. Setting aside the fact that she only bought the most expensive clothes, she also threw money at her one-night stands like crazy. Money doesn’t grow on trees; even if the family owns a gold mine, they can’t survive this constant squandering!
Such a waste!
After roasting the original Ye Baiwei dozens of times in her head, she prepared to follow Mu Zheng out of the shop. She stopped worrying about the tiny coffee stain on her blazer; you couldn’t see it unless you looked closely. There was no need to pick another suit just for a little stain; she could just find a dry cleaner later and everything would be resolved.
But at the moment she reached the door, Ye Baiwei’s peripheral vision caught a very beautiful dress. It was hanging in the innermost display cabinet, though it wasn’t finished yet; the fabric below the hem was still draped. It was likely a designer’s new work, currently in the revision stage.
Ye Baiwei was a clothing designer herself, so she could tell at a glance that the designer had put a lot of heart into this dress. Every detail was just right—whether it was the bust area or the part highlighting the waistline, it was perfectly designed to emphasize the wearer’s physical advantages.
And this dress, if worn by Mu Zheng…
It would surely be stunning.
“Does President Ye like that dress?”
Mu Zheng heard the clerk’s voice and turned back, only to see Ye Baiwei staring intently at the display window, looking completely mesmerized.
However, she remembered that Ye Baiwei didn’t like wearing dresses. One reason was that she found them too troublesome; secondly, as the company owner who often had to return for meetings, she mostly wore suits, as dresses failed to give her subordinates a sense of authority. This resulted in Ye Baiwei’s wardrobe being almost entirely suits, with dresses only worn occasionally for important banquets.
Therefore, Ye Baiwei felt there was no real need for custom dresses; having three or four to handle special occasions was enough, as any more would just sit there unworn.
Of course, this wasn’t because Ye Baiwei had found her conscience and didn’t want to waste money—if she cared about that, she wouldn’t throw money at one-night stands. It was purely because she felt it was unnecessary.
“President Ye.”
Ye Baiwei was snapped back by Mu Zheng’s voice. Her gaze appraised Mu Zheng’s figure for a moment, then turned back to the dress in the display case, confirming one thing once more: if Mu Zheng wore this dress, she would be beautiful.
“Does President Ye like that dress?” Mu Zheng asked.
Ye Baiwei asked the clerk, “Is that dress a new arrival for this season?”
The clerk nodded. “Yes, President Ye. However, the designer hasn’t completely finished it yet; they said it’s still missing ‘a little something.’ Once it’s fully revised, we’ll have a model wear it first for this season’s runway. If you’ve taken a fancy to it, you can bid on it after the show.”
“Can she try it on now?”
Mu Zheng froze. It was rare for her to show her negative emotions so directly on her face. But thinking this might be something Ye Baiwei wanted to buy for a new target, she asked, “President Ye, wouldn’t it be better if you tried it on yourself?”
Ye Baiwei said, “The dress isn’t for me to wear, why would I try it?”
Mu Zheng added, “If you’re buying it for someone else, for this kind of custom clothing, it’s better to have the person themselves come over.”
Ye Baiwei felt she had made herself clear enough, but Mu Zheng’s reaction was quite normal. She said again, “Secretary Mu, what would you do if I said I was buying it for you?”
Without even thinking, Mu Zheng said, “Then I would refuse. I’m afraid I cannot accept.”
“Because of your Alpha?”
“What do you think, President Ye?”
For some reason, Mu Zheng’s answer made Ye Baiwei feel extremely annoyed.
