An Inner Life of a Cold Beauty Omega Secretary - Chapter 2
Ye Baiwei doubted she had heard correctly. She turned around, but Mu Zheng was already walking out of the room with the tidied items and wasn’t speaking to her.
Then who was talking to her just now?
Could it be a ghost?!!!
Ye Baiwei was a materialist who believed firmly in science; she didn’t believe in the existence of ghosts. But thinking carefully, her transmigrating into a book wasn’t exactly something science could explain either.
So, what exactly just happened?
Full of doubt, Ye Baiwei’s gaze lingered on Mu Zheng’s back. She wanted to figure out where that voice came from, but Mu Zheng suddenly turned around.
“Is something the matter?” Ye Baiwei looked calm on the surface, but internally she was panicking.
Then she heard Mu Zheng say: “How much longer does President Ye plan on standing there?”
Her tone was clearly urging her.
This made Ye Baiwei recall a small detail from the text: the original Ye Baiwei had absolutely no sense of time. To be more precise, because of Mu Zheng’s existence, the original Ye Baiwei relied on her secretary for almost everything. From major company meetings and client negotiations down to the scheduling of her one-night stand dates, Mu Zheng arranged everything perfectly.
When she had read this part of the novel, Ye Baiwei remembered posting a long comment roasting the character.
[Imagine needing a secretary to plan and remind you where to go for a hookup—why not just carry a baby bottle when you go out? Is she a giant infant? Needing the secretary’s help for every little thing! Why not just throw her brain away? It’s useless anyway since she relies on the secretary for everything. I’m truly done. Why did the author write an ‘Alpha’ lead like this? Not only is she a stomach-turning scumbag, but she’s also a freaking giant infant. Who the hell would want to date a giant infant! What did the female lead do in her past life to run into such a piece of trash in this book! And a ‘Second Spring’? This kind of dog should be sent to the crematorium during her ‘First Spring’ and turned to ash; keeping her around only harms society. What kind of trauma did the author suffer to want to write about such a dog? If you can’t write a good character, I suggest you don’t write at all!]
Of course, roasting aside, she couldn’t resist the fact that the plot hit all her guilty pleasures, and she ended up gritting her teeth and staying up all night to finish the finale.
Now that she had become that very Ye Baiwei, looking at Mu Zheng, she felt a genuine sense of heartache for this secretary. Dealing with a moody, twisted woman like the original Ye Baiwei every day—how did Mu Zheng endure it?
Was it for the money?
Well, she could understand that completely.
After all, she used to be a miserable worker too. For that tiny bit of salary, she’d do any job—she’d even call her boss “Daddy” if required.
“Did Secretary Mu have something she wanted to say to me just now?”
Mu Zheng was clearly taken aback, but out of professional secretary decorum, the subtle expression only stayed on her face for a few seconds before returning to normal. “You must have seen wrong, President Ye. I had nothing to say to you.”
Ye Baiwei was certain her ears weren’t failing her, but since she couldn’t find the source of the problem, she let it drop for now. “Never mind then.”
She buttoned up her shirt and walked out of the bedroom into the living room.
Mu Zheng had made breakfast for her: a tomato and egg sandwich with salad dressing on the side. It smelled delicious, but because it had been sitting out too long, it was cold.
But that wasn’t the main point. The most important thing was that Ye Baiwei’s tastes were different from the original character’s. She—very, very, very much—hated tomatoes!
Seeing her hesitate for so long, Mu Zheng assumed it was because the food was cold and explained: “I went to your room to call you three times when it was freshly made, but you didn’t respond once, President Ye. So, I had to leave it out. We’re in a rush now, so please just make do for now. Or, you can order takeout to eat on the way—of course, the cost for the takeout will have to come out of your own pocket.”
Ye Baiwei looked up at her. In Mu Zheng’s eyes, she saw the weary resignation of a worker. The original novel didn’t describe this much, but Mu Zheng must have done things like this often, gradually becoming accustomed to it until she could face it with total calm.
But even so, she still hated tomatoes!!!
What would the original Ye Baiwei do in this situation?
Eat it anyway?
Or order something else to eat on the road?
At her core, Ye Baiwei still thought like an ordinary person. She hadn’t experienced the lifestyle of the wealthy. Usually, if she bought food and put it in the fridge, as long as it wouldn’t kill her, she’d eat it—she would never throw it away just because it tasted bad.
But the original Ye Baiwei was different.
The original Ye Baiwei lived an extravagant lifestyle, spending money like water. She didn’t even blink when giving money to her one-night stands—starting at 500,000. Sometimes if they made her happy, she’d drop millions. It was completely beyond Ye Baiwei’s comprehension.
After hesitating for a moment, Ye Baiwei toughened her resolve, took a bite of the tomato and egg sandwich, and quickly washed it down with the hot milk sitting nearby.
Mu Zheng showed no reaction and turned away to get busy with something else.
As Ye Baiwei ate, her eyes followed Mu Zheng’s movements. She actually couldn’t understand why the original character looked down on this secretary. Mu Zheng clearly had great features—slim waist, long legs, and a pretty face. Why did that idiot author say she wasn’t standout?
A girl like this in the real world would have countless people pining for her.
That Li Qingqing person was just a bit more flirtatious, had a more curvaceous body, and a smoother tongue—in what way was she better than Mu Zheng?
She couldn’t help but suspect the original Ye Baiwei was blind!
While she was thinking, Mu Zheng returned from her tasks.
She was carrying several boxes.
“Which pair does President Ye plan to wear today?”
The original Ye Baiwei lived lavishly; she never wore the same outfit twice, and naturally, the same went for her shoes. Most styles were specially designed for her.
Ye Baiwei really wanted to curse this “spendthrift woman.” These brands weren’t even available on the market; they were designer exclusives. Without hundreds of thousands or even millions—and more importantly, the right connections—you couldn’t buy them.
It was all cold, hard cash!
“Whatever,” Ye Baiwei said, her heart bleeding. She thought to herself that she must secretly sell all these shoes later and save the money, just in case.
Mu Zheng seemed to have anticipated this answer and handed over a pair of burgundy low heels. “Try these on first, President Ye.”
Ye Baiwei was curious why she needed to try them. Given Mu Zheng’s usual understanding of the original Ye Baiwei, she shouldn’t need a fitting. “Doesn’t Secretary Mu know my size?”
Mu Zheng didn’t speak; she just stared straight at her.
Ye Baiwei felt she hadn’t said anything wrong. Her current attitude was exactly like the original character’s, wasn’t it?
Was she not being unreasonable enough?
Just as she looked up to say something, that familiar voice rang in her ear again.
[What’s the point of knowing?!]
[Don’t you have any damn idea why I’m asking?]
[Should I prepare a recording pen in the future so I can listen to the bullshit you spout every day, ‘Boss’!]
Ye Baiwei was completely stunned. She stared straight at Mu Zheng, her eyes filled with disbelief. Not only had she transmigrated, but she had unexpectedly gained the ability to hear people’s inner thoughts?!
So that roast she heard earlier wasn’t a hallucination—it was actually Mu Zheng’s true feelings!
Seeing Ye Baiwei staring at her, Mu Zheng remained unruffled on the surface. She asked calmly, “Does President Ye have any other instructions? If you don’t like this pair, I’ll swap them.”
Ye Baiwei looked at the “High Mountain Flower” (cold beauty) before her—expressionless on the outside but roasting her relentlessly on the inside. For a moment, she couldn’t believe this was the same person. Was this cold exterior all an act?
No.
It wasn’t necessarily an act.
Her personality was probably just like this; being “cold and elegant” was just the surface.
To think this woman actually had two faces!
Ye Baiwei hadn’t expected this. When she read the original text, she hadn’t noticed anything special about the secretary. The author only used a few strokes to describe her, frequently mentioning how professional and cold she was—like an untouchable flower on a high peak.
She had actually believed the author’s lies, thinking Mu Zheng was a cold beauty through and through. Who knew this little lady had a hidden side!
Ye Baiwei suddenly couldn’t look at this “High Mountain Flower” the same way again.
“Does Secretary Mu think these shoes look good?”
Mu Zheng gave a formulaic answer: “If President Ye likes them, they are naturally beautiful. If President Ye dislikes them, they are ugly no matter how expensive they are.”
This answer wasn’t necessarily right or wrong, but Ye Baiwei could hear Mu Zheng’s massive grievance toward the original character, even if she had no proof.
According to the original character’s personality, she probably wouldn’t bother saying much to Mu Zheng. In her mind, Mu Zheng was just a dull block of wood; talking to her was useless, so she just left all the trivial matters to her.
But this Ye Baiwei was different. She felt this version of Mu Zheng was very special—more vivid than the author’s description. After all, she was human, and no human can truly be an empty shell of cold elegance.
“Have you ever picked out things for your Alpha?”
Alpha?
Mu Zheng didn’t have an Alpha, so how could she have picked things out for one?
Though, she hadn’t picked out a gift for her girlfriend in a long time.
Just as she was thinking, Mu Zheng’s phone suddenly rang.
