An Inner Life of a Cold Beauty Omega Secretary - Chapter 6
While they were speaking, the car arrived at the company entrance.
Ye Baiwei and Mu Zheng ended their discussion. After the driver opened the car door, the two of them stepped out together.
In truth, Ye Baiwei was reluctant to come. It wasn’t that she was afraid of big crowds—back at her old company, she often accompanied her boss to meet various business tycoons and was long accustomed to such scenes. There was only one reason she didn’t want to come: she didn’t want to face the original Ye Baiwei’s father, Ye Feng.
They say no one knows a daughter better than her parents; Mu Zheng might not recognize the change, but Ye Feng might.
Ye Baiwei was Ye Feng’s biological daughter; surely he could tell at a glance that she was an imposter.
She felt trapped—fleeing wasn’t an option, but staying felt just as risky.
In reality, Ye Baiwei was purely overthinking it.
Forget about noticing a change; Ye Feng didn’t even expect her to show up at all.
Seeing her and Mu Zheng push the door open and enter, Ye Feng didn’t even lift an eyelid. He simply kept talking to the other shareholders about the topic at hand.
Uh…
Ye Baiwei seriously began to doubt whether she was actually the “President” of this company, and whether she was really Ye Feng’s biological child.
“President Ye.”
Mu Zheng’s voice snapped Ye Baiwei back to reality. Just as she was about to say something, an unfamiliar voice came from behind her.
Ye Baiwei turned to look. She didn’t personally know this person, but from the original Ye Baiwei’s memories, she was able to search for information regarding this unfamiliar face.
Ye Changze: an Alpha, Ye Baiwei’s cousin, and the eldest son of Ye Feng’s brother, Ye Kanglin. The Ye Group was originally built up by Ye Feng and Ye Kanglin together; they each held half of the shares. Therefore, regarding the successor, Ye Baiwei was a candidate, and Ye Changze was as well.
At a previous shareholders’ meeting, Ye Feng and Ye Kanglin had stated their positions, saying they wouldn’t show favoritism just because the candidates were their own children; the succession would depend on strength. In reality, however, everyone knew that Ye Feng’s momentum was currently far greater than Ye Kanglin’s. He held over half the shares of the Ye Group and was the person with the most power. Under these circumstances, any discerning person could see that the position of Chairman would surely be inherited by his own child, Ye Baiwei.
It was practically a done deal.
Because of this, although Ye Kanglin appeared to be all smiles and jokes with Ye Feng on the surface, he was secretly full of resentment. He felt that Ye Feng was showing no respect to him as the elder brother and was betraying the original vision they had worked toward together.
In the quiet shadows, the struggle between Ye Kanglin and Ye Feng had begun.
And Ye Baiwei and Ye Changze had likewise started their battle for the successor’s seat.
“Cousin Baiwei, you actually weren’t late today. Truly something worth celebrating,” Ye Changze said with an unfriendly tone.
[What are you even here for? Hurry up and get your ass home, then the successor position will be mine!]
Ye Baiwei was wondering which idiot was talking, but after looking around, there were only the four of them here.
Oh, it was this idiot Ye Changze.
Wait.
Shouldn’t such serious thoughts be kept buried in one’s stomach?
How could he show it so clearly? It was as if he was afraid she wouldn’t know!
Ye Baiwei looked at Ye Changze with a complex expression. She really wanted to offer a reminder: “Brother, you’ve exposed yourself. Can you hide those thoughts a bit better? This makes it feel very unchallenging, hey!”
Seeing her expression, Mu Zheng thought Ye Baiwei was getting angry from the provocation. Before Ye Baiwei could explode, she addressed Ye Changze: “Wasn’t Vice President Ye also not late?”
Ye Changze’s face instantly turned as black as the bottom of a scorched pot.
The words “Vice President Ye” seemed to step right on his landmine, causing him to blow up.
“When I am speaking to my cousin Baiwei, what right does a mere secretary have to butt in!”
That’s right—even if Ye Feng and Ye Kanglin’s statuses appeared equal on the surface, the one with absolute power was Ye Feng. The result of this gap was that Ye Baiwei was the Principal and Ye Changze was the Vice. Inside the company, Ye Changze still had to call Ye Baiwei “President Ye.”
They were superior and subordinate.
This was the main reason for Ye Changze’s suppressed rage.
“Cousin Baiwei, look at the ‘good’ secretary you’ve hired. She doesn’t even know her place now. What will happen in the future!”
Ye Baiwei looked at Mu Zheng out of the corner of her eye with disbelief, then her lips curled into an imperceptible smile. She looked up at Ye Changze. “She’s telling the truth, so how has she forgotten her place? On the other hand, Vice President Ye, it’s fine to call me Cousin Baiwei in private, but this is the company. I’ll ask the Vice President to correct his form of address.”
“Cousin Baiwei, given our relationship, saying that is a bit distant, don’t you think?” Ye Changze acted as if he were unbothered, but in reality, he was grinding his teeth in rage.
Ye Baiwei could see right through him, so she didn’t bother saying much more. “Cousin, if you were the one sitting in this position instead of me today, you probably wouldn’t be saying that. We are all adults; we know exactly what’s going on, so why bother spelling it out?”
“Cousin Baiwei has a point. However, you should be very clear about why Chairman Ye and the others called us here today, right?”
“Of course I know.”
“Since you’ve put it that way, Cousin, don’t blame me for being merciless later.”
“Whatever.”
As if he would have been merciful if she hadn’t said that. Ye Baiwei wasn’t a fool; the business world is all about profit. Since profit is paramount, who would care about family ties? Did he think they were playing house?
How ridiculous.
[Bitch, bitch, bitch, just you wait!]
[This project belongs to me and no one else. Just wait until you’re polishing my shoes!]
[When the time comes, if I don’t make you kneel, I’ll take your damn last name!]
Ye Baiwei almost couldn’t hold back her laughter. If she hadn’t pinched the flesh on her arm hard, she would have absolutely lost it at this idiot “cheap cousin.”
They both had the surname Ye, and he’d take “her” last name? Was old man Ye Kanglin a cuckold?!
This was massive gossip; if she sold this to the paparazzi, wouldn’t she make a tidy profit!
Because she was distracted and pinched too hard, by the time she snapped out of it, she was in so much pain she almost shed a “little pearl.” She couldn’t help but frown.
Mu Zheng thought she was furious at Ye Changze’s words. Just as she was about to say something, she heard Ye Baiwei speak: “Cousin, regardless of what changes happen in the future, at least for now in this company, you must call me President Ye. Remember that clearly.”
With that, Ye Baiwei turned and walked forward without looking back.
Ye Changze stood there stomping his feet in anger, his teeth grinding audibly.
But the meeting was about to start, so he could only suppress his emotions and walk quickly to his seat.
The meeting today was to discuss the recent “Sanhe” project. Sanhe was the name of a small town; it was a new tourism project acquired by the Ye Group. They wanted to transform the town’s original appearance into a tourist attraction that combined natural and man-made elements, with an investment of over ten million.
It wasn’t a small project.
For an average company, this would be considered a massive undertaking. But Ye Feng and Ye Kanglin hadn’t taken this project for themselves; their real goal was to use it as a bet to prove whose child was more capable—in other words, a roundabout way of deciding the future successor of the Ye Group.
But Ye Baiwei already knew where the project would land today. In the original plot, from the moment he touched the project, Ye Kanglin had been buying people off everywhere. More than half the people sitting at this table had been bribed by him. Combined with Ye Changze’s “certain victory” inner thoughts just now, there was no doubt the final result would land in Ye Changze’s hands.
“Then, I now announce that the General Manager for the ‘Sanhe’ project will be the Vice President of the Ye Group, Ye Changze. Let us congratulate Vice President Ye!”
As expected.
Ye Baiwei wasn’t surprised at all.
They claimed to be here to “discuss,” but Ye Kanglin had long ago pre-determined it would be Ye Changze. The only reason he called her and Ye Feng here was to use the opportunity to humiliate Ye Feng.
“Baiwei, this project was selected by everyone’s vote. Don’t be too sad; there will be plenty of other projects for you to choose from in the future.” Ye Kanglin’s smile was so wide his mouth could hardly close. “If Baiwei is also interested in the Sanhe project, how about this—since you studied architectural design, you must be quite familiar with all aspects of the town. Why not… go over and act as a guide for Ze? Ye Feng, what do you think?”
Ye Feng’s face remained expressionless. Hearing Ye Kanglin say this, he only slightly arched an eyebrow.
Ye Baiwei couldn’t help but admire him in her heart. As expected of an old fox—even when someone was shitting on his head, he remained so calm. The “old ginger” really was spicier.
[You old fart, trying to humiliate my old man on purpose, right? Just wait—if I don’t crush this brat, I’ll call you Grandpa!]
Okay.
She took back what she just thought.
It turned out the big shots were all playing psychological warfare.
Ye Baiwei looked at Ye Kanglin’s face out of the corner of her eye. The old man had stopped smiling, but his gaze…
She followed Ye Kanglin’s line of sight; he was looking at Ye Feng.
[Old man, my son won this time. Your useless daughter should just go home and stick to embroidery!]
What does that have to do with me!
Ye Baiwei made a mental note against Ye Kanglin and looked up at Ye Feng. Ye Feng was the same as before, looking serious, but his inner thoughts were a different story.
[Old geezer, that straw-bag son of yours is fit to be the successor of the Ye Group? Lead a pig over here and it would be more capable than that idiot son of yours!]
“Pfft—”
Ye Baiwei couldn’t help it; she burst out laughing.
The conference room had been quiet with no one speaking, so Ye Baiwei’s “pfft” instantly drew everyone’s gaze toward her.
Sensing the scrutinizing looks from all sides, Ye Baiwei immediately held it in and put her hand to her mouth, pretending to cough. “Cough, cough, cough.”
Ye Feng asked: “Are you unwell?”
While pinching her thigh, Ye Baiwei answered seriously: “Yes, I might have caught a cold last night. It’s no big deal.”
“That’s good. Take care of yourself.”
“Understood.”
Having secured the project, Ye Changze was currently riding a high. Seeing an opportunity, he couldn’t help but reveal his true colors. “Since President Ye is unwell, she truly should focus on resting. You can rest assured leaving the heavy responsibility of this project to me.”
Ye Baiwei rolled her eyes so hard internally they almost hit the back of her head. she didn’t even want to give Ye Changze a single glance. “Chairman Ye, the meeting should be over by now. May I leave?”
Ye Feng glanced at her and said simply, “It’s over. Leave if you want to. Ye Changze is in charge of the Sanhe project; it has nothing to do with you anymore.”
Ye Kanglin chimed in: “Ye Feng, how can you say it has nothing to do with Baiwei? We are all family. I wonder what Baiwei thinks of the suggestion I just made?”
Ye Baiwei just wanted to scoff, but with so many people present, she didn’t want to start cursing, so she suppressed it for the time being. “No thanks. Since the Vice President is in charge, as the saying goes, ‘if you use a person, do not doubt them; if you doubt them, do not use them.’ If I were to go, wouldn’t people say I don’t trust the Vice President?”
“You…!”
Ye Baiwei stood up and waved her hand. “Then I wish the Vice President success.”
Outside the conference room.
Mu Zheng followed behind. Seeing Ye Baiwei keeping her head down, she assumed Ye Baiwei was feeling down after losing such a big project. She instinctively offered comfort: “President Ye, you don’t actually need to be too sad. The Sanhe project isn’t as easy to complete as it looks.”
Ye Baiwei was busy noticing that a diamond had fallen off her shoe and was looking down to see where it might have dropped. Hearing Mu Zheng’s words, she stopped in her tracks.
Then, with a curl of her lip, she turned around and walked right up to Mu Zheng. Ye Baiwei smiled. “Is Secretary Mu… worrying about me?”
