An Inner Life of a Cold Beauty Omega Secretary - Chapter 9
“All done.”
“Ah… what?”
Ye Baiwei’s thoughts were still lingering on the moment before. Hearing Mu Zheng say this, she didn’t react for a second.
Mu Zheng didn’t seem angry at her reaction. After tossing the soiled tissues into the trash can, she sighed. “The shirt can’t be wiped clean; it needs to be taken off and sent to the dry cleaners. There’s a mall nearby, so I’ll take you there first to change into something clean, President Ye.”
As she spoke, Mu Zheng called a shop assistant at the mall directly. She rattled off Ye Baiwei’s measurements, instructing the assistant to follow them strictly.
Once that call was finished, Mu Zheng immediately called the driver, telling him to drive to the company entrance to pick them up.
Watching this whole operation, Ye Baiwei just wanted to give Mu Zheng a thumbs-up. It really wasn’t surprising that the original Ye Baiwei was overly dependent on her, nor was it surprising that Mu Zheng complained behind her back about her being like a giant infant. With a secretary who knows what you’re thinking at all times and solves your problems for you, who would want to use their own brain?
By the time they finished talking, the driver had arrived.
Mu Zheng opened the car door for Ye Baiwei, stepped forward to give the driver the address, and then returned to sit in the back with Ye Baiwei.
On the road.
Ye Baiwei kept glancing at Mu Zheng out of the corner of her eye.
A girl with Mu Zheng’s personality and outstanding ability would be a goddess-like existence in the real world—approachable yet distant, with a line of suitors stretching from one end of the Great Wall to the other. The original Ye Baiwei really had no taste.
However, it wasn’t necessarily that the original Ye Baiwei didn’t appreciate Mu Zheng. Rather, with a girl like Mu Zheng, you either take full responsibility or you don’t touch her at all. The original Ye Baiwei knew she couldn’t handle that responsibility and likely found it troublesome, so she simply nipped the idea in the bud.
At least she had a shred of conscience.
“If you have something to say, President Ye, say it directly.”
The cool voice came from beside her. Ye Baiwei realized her gaze had been too intense and was caught by Mu Zheng.
But this time, Ye Baiwei wanted to turn the tables. “What do you mean by that, Secretary Mu?”
Mu Zheng turned her head. Knowing Ye Baiwei was playing dumb, she didn’t get angry; she simply turned her head back. “Never mind.”
Is she just going to ignore me?
For some reason, Ye Baiwei suddenly felt a bit restless. “Is Secretary Mu unwilling to talk to me?”
“No, you’re overthinking it, President Ye.”
“If not, then why did you ask that just now?”
“…” Mu Zheng was never willing to explain anything to Ye Baiwei. First, Ye Baiwei never listened; second, in Ye Baiwei’s eyes, an explanation was just a cover-up for a lack of ability; and third, Ye Baiwei’s personality was just asking for a beating—the more you explained, the more she’d dig for details. She hated that.
Finally, Mu Zheng let out a soft sigh. “You were the one looking at me first, President Ye. I only asked out of habit. If you have any questions or any doubts about how I handle things, you can say so directly, and I’ll take note of it for next time.”
Ye Baiwei didn’t doubt Mu Zheng’s ability; on the contrary, she admired it. Being able to be meticulous about every detail put her ahead of ninety-nine percent of people.
However, Ye Baiwei suddenly wanted to know one thing: doing these trivial tasks every day with a blank face and dealing with the original Ye Baiwei’s unreasonable demands—did she never get angry?
Back in the real world, when her boss went too far, Ye Baiwei couldn’t hold it in and would often get into loud arguments with him over work. Clearly, she had a very good boss who never fired her in the end.
“Your administrative abilities are obvious to all, Secretary Mu. I have no doubts.”
“Then are you angry, President Ye?”
“…What would I be angry about?”
“About what just happened. You’re angry that I didn’t make that person learn a lesson immediately, right?”
Mu Zheng knew it.
There was no way Ye Baiwei wouldn’t be angry about this. That person had soiled one of her favorite shirts, and once a garment was stained, Ye Baiwei would throw it in the trash even if it were washed.
That’s why, after every one-night stand, Ye Baiwei would demand she throw away all the clothes, including the underwear.
Mu Zheng thought Ye Baiwei letting the person go so easily meant she had changed her nature, but it turned out she was just holding her breath and waiting for her.
“If I said I wasn’t angry, would you believe me, Secretary Mu?”
Mu Zheng paused and slowly turned her head, her eyes full of skepticism.
Ye Baiwei knew it. But she didn’t want to explain too much; she wasn’t the original Ye Baiwei, and explaining too much wouldn’t fit the character. She would be exposed sooner or later. What she needed to do now was talk less and do more. “It seems you don’t believe me.”
“You’re overthinking it, President Ye. I don’t.”
Mu Zheng couldn’t tell what Ye Baiwei was thinking right now. Normally, she should be angry, but now… her sixth sense told her Ye Baiwei was in a good mood.
Was it because she had someone to vent on today?
So Ye Baiwei was still angry about the project being snatched. Her earlier explanation was probably just because she didn’t want to lose face in front of her.
That made sense.
But after Mu Zheng said that, Ye Baiwei didn’t follow up; she just tilted her head and looked out the car window.
Mu Zheng was worried her words would make Ye Baiwei unhappy again, so she didn’t continue.
A few minutes later.
They arrived at the mall.
Mu Zheng led Ye Baiwei directly to the fifth-floor specialty counters.
This was a place for custom-made suits and a store Ye Baiwei frequented.
However, Ye Baiwei usually didn’t come in person; she would just give her measurements to Mu Zheng and have her run the errand. Over time, everyone inside got to know her secretary.
“President Ye!”
Seeing Ye Baiwei arrive in person, the male clerk hurried to call the manager.
“Please wait a moment, President Ye. The manager will be right here.”
Mu Zheng said, “Don’t trouble the manager. President Ye’s clothes are dirty and she needs to change immediately. Just bring the clothes out now.”
The clerk didn’t dare delay and hurriedly brought the clothes from the back room. “Secretary Mu, your call was so sudden. The manager said we couldn’t finish a new piece in time. This is the one you ordered here previously and haven’t picked up yet; it can solve the urgent problem.”
Mu Zheng breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, she had the foresight to order an extra one in advance, or Ye Baiwei would probably be angry again. “Please take President Ye over.”
Ye Baiwei asked, “Aren’t you coming with me?”
Mu Zheng: “…”
[It’s just changing clothes—you want me to come too? Why don’t you just let me be your mother instead!]
Pfft—
“Cough, cough, cough—”
“Are you… feeling unwell, President Ye?”
Mu Zheng couldn’t see any signs of illness. She had been refreshed by a beauty just yesterday; how could she be sick? But since the clerk asked, Mu Zheng could only follow along. “Yes, she accidentally caught a cold yesterday.”
“It’s true that it’s easy to catch a cold this season. Please take care, President Ye,” the clerk said flatteringly. “Rest assured, our fitting rooms have heaters; we won’t let you get chilled.”
“President Ye, I’ll wait for you here.”
Since she put it that way, Ye Baiwei couldn’t insist on Mu Zheng coming along. She glanced at the clerk, signaling for him to lead the way.
Changing didn’t take long. Ye Baiwei was a person of speed and got changed in no time.
But looking in the mirror, she felt that no matter how she wore it, it didn’t look right. Professional wear is different from other clothes; it requires a certain technique. A regular person might think you just throw it on, but she was “Ye Baiwei” now. Ye Baiwei’s requirements for professional wear were different from others; if she just walked out like that, Mu Zheng would definitely notice something was off.
After hesitating, Ye Baiwei said to the saleswoman waiting outside, “Please call my secretary; I have something I need her help with.”
“Certainly, President Ye. One moment, please.”
A moment later.
Ye Baiwei saw a grim-faced Mu Zheng standing at the fitting room door waiting for her.
This time, she really had no choice. She didn’t want to be waited on, but to ensure she wouldn’t be exposed, she had to be a bother.
“I’m still used to Secretary Mu helping me adjust things.”
Mu Zheng didn’t say anything. Perhaps she was used to these unreasonable demands. Hearing the instruction, she habitually walked over to help tidy up.
Ye Baiwei felt very guilty and didn’t dare make eye contact. Worried that the thoughts she had at the company entrance would resurface, she took a deep breath and closed her eyes, but then felt like she was just burying her head in the sand. She decided to find something to distract her.
“When I was changing, I noticed there was coffee on the blazer too. Secretary Mu, pick out a new one for me in a bit.”
Mu Zheng paused while buttoning the shirt. She hadn’t noticed if there was any on the blazer; since it was dark, it was hard to see without looking closely.
This was an oversight in her work.
“Alright.”
Ye Baiwei didn’t expect Mu Zheng to agree so quickly and was a bit startled. Moreover, Mu Zheng wasn’t roasting her in her head!
“Let’s pick a red one for you,” Mu Zheng said to the saleswoman. “Not too dark, just the right shade. Oh, and the trousers to match.”
The saleswoman nodded and, after consulting with the male clerk, picked out a true red according to Ye Baiwei’s usual preferences.
“President Ye, this is the latest color and style our brand has launched. It’s a sample, so the size might be slightly small, but if you like it, we can make a custom one for you later.”
Looking at the suit brought over, Ye Baiwei liked it at first sight. Even though she rarely picked out clothes before, she could see how good this color would look on “Ye Baiwei” and how well it complemented her skin tone. She couldn’t help but marvel at Mu Zheng’s great taste.
“Secretary Mu.”
“If you have something to say, President Ye, say it.”
“Do you often pick out clothes for your boyfriend?”
“Why are you suddenly asking that?”
Ye Baiwei blurted out, “Your taste is so good. I was thinking your boyfriend must be very lucky.”
