Appearing on a Marriage Show Before Getting Divorced - Chapter 6
Under the vast starry sky, Chu Nian’s eyes flickered with the light of the stars, softened by a faint, misty layer of sadness.
Even before she spoke, everyone’s heart felt a tug of inexplicable sorrow. Such was the charm of Sister Chang’e—one look was enough to make people sink into her emotions.
“It was my fault,” Chu Nian said softly. She shook her head, tears shimmering in her eyes, and said no more.
O—M—G!!!
Sister, Goddess Chang’e, please say more!
That single sentence was packed with too much information. How exactly were you “not good”? Was it that you didn’t care for them enough? Was your love not good enough? Or was it that you did something “not good” while away…? It was far too easy to let one’s imagination run wild.
Everyone was stunned into silence. The cigarette in Director Niu’s mouth fell to the ground with a soft thud.
Ruan Youran lowered her head and took a large gulp of champagne. The stinging liquid slid down her throat, making her heart feel as sour as the drink.
Director Niu never imagined her “romantic memories” segment would turn into a “Heartbreak League.” Even if the crew dared to broadcast this, the agencies certainly wouldn’t allow it.
“Right, right! We all have a painful yet memorable past, but now, everyone is getting ‘married’! A new life is beginning, and the past can be wiped away.” Director Niu, quick-witted enough to be a relationship talk-show host, scrambled to liven up the atmosphere. The guests played along, chatting about trivial things until the heavy atmosphere finally lifted.
Ruan Youran’s mood remained sour. She drank glass after glass. Though it was only champagne, she felt light-headed by the end.
As the group began to disperse, she stumbled. Chu Nian instinctively reached out to steady her. When she touched those familiar, cool hands, Youran’s nose tickled with the threat of tears. She pushed her away. “I don’t need your help.”
Lin Yiyi and President Qin, walking right behind them, exchanged a shocked look.
Chu Nian bit her lip as she was pushed back. She looked at Youran, then turned to Lin Yiyi with a gaze that held a hint of a plea.
That look was simply too much. Lin Yiyi felt her heart melt. She hurried forward to support Youran. “Did you drink too much? Why the big temper? Come on, I’ve got you.”
Youran’s face was flushed, looking even more delicate in the glow of the bonfire. She gave Yiyi a hazy, tipsy look and smiled. “Oh, it’s you, Yiyi~”
Lin Yiyi: “…”
God, help me.
What was that look?! Is she a fox spirit?!
Caught in the middle of these two powerhouses, Yiyi felt her heart racing. She barely remembered how she managed to get Youran back to the room.
Once placed on the bed, Youran rolled over and curled up like a little pig, falling fast asleep. Occasionally, she scratched her arm.
Yiyi glanced over and gasped. “How is Jianjian such a mosquito magnet? Look at all these bites.”
Chu Nian had already emerged from the bathroom with a basin of water. she walked to the bed, dampened a towel, and leaned over to gently wipe Youran’s face.
Lin Yiyi “died” for a second time.
From her angle, Goddess Chu’s long hair draped over her shoulders, revealing a snow-white neck. Because of her posture, she almost completely shielded Youran beneath her. The side profile of her face revealed a tenderness that was utterly intoxicating.
Yiyi hadn’t interacted with Chu Nian much before, and she always assumed such a woman would be a high-and-mighty goddess who never lifted a finger. Yet here she was, bowing down to wipe Ruan Youran’s face.
After watching for a moment, Yiyi felt like she was intruding on something profound. She quietly slipped out and closed the door.
After wiping her face, Chu Nian began to unbutton Youran’s clothes. This time, Youran reacted. She grabbed Chu Nian’s hand, mumbling, “What… what are you doing now? Don’t touch me… go away… aren’t we… aren’t we already divorced?”
Chu Nian’s hand froze. She looked at Youran. Youran’s eyes were closed, but her face was wet with tears.
It felt like a needle pricking her heart.
Chu Nian withdrew her hand, her eyes filled with gloom. After a moment of silence, she stopped unbuttoning. Instead, she took a special herbal mosquito powder from her bag and mixed it with water. She applied the green paste to Youran’s exposed arms and legs.
By the time she finished, it was nearly midnight. Chu Nian leaned down, looking at Youran—who was now sleeping peacefully without itching—and kissed her forehead. She whispered, “Bunny, goodnight.”
The next morning, Chu Nian was jolted awake by Youran’s scream.
Youran looked at the dried, pale-green powder on her skin and sniffed her arm. “What is this?!”
Her mother’s mosquito remedy was usually white. This was the upgraded green version, her first time seeing it.
“Poison,” Chu Nian said flatly.
Youran glared at her, gritting her teeth. “Who told you to touch me? Didn’t we say it? From now on, we’re strangers!”
Chu Nian sneered. “That day? Which day?”
Youran blurted out, “The day we had our break-up—” She cut herself off before saying the word “sex,” rolled her eyes, and stomped into the bathroom in her slippers.
Chu Nian knew her temper and didn’t bother arguing. She finished her morning routine and stepped out, looking refreshed.
Lin Yiyi, driven by the intuition of a mature woman, came over to check on Youran. She wondered if anything “steamy” had happened after Youran got drunk last night.
“What are you doing?” Yiyi asked as Youran emerged from the bath.
Youran was sniffing her arm repeatedly. She thrust it under Yiyi’s nose. “Smell this. Is there a scent?”
Lin Yiyi: “…”
Good heavens! Is it that intense? The scent reached her arms?!
Youran was famously vain. She would rather be covered in bites than wear smelly repellent. With filming about to start, she refused to have a scent on her.
Yiyi was shaken by the question. “What… what’s wrong? Is there something on you?”
“Don’t get me started,” Youran said, checking herself in the mirror. Even with a hangover and no makeup, she was stunning. She smirked. “Chu Nian applied medicine to me without my permission.”
Yiyi’s eyes wandered. “Applied… medicine?”
“Yeah,” Youran nodded. “All over.”
Lin Yiyi: “…” OMG!!!
Was it really that wild? What kind of ‘medicine’?! Does it even need to be said? If it’s all over her body, it must be an aphrodisiac, right?!
At breakfast, Lin Yiyi was dazed. When Chu Nian served her porridge, she looked at her strangely. She knew Yiyi was a fan, but today she seemed… different.
Yiyi chewed her bun, her mind in a whirlpool. My goddess… the ethereal, pure goddess I’ve worshipped for years… is actually so ‘lustful’ in private…
Director Niu finished her breakfast, her eyes glowing. “We reviewed the footage from yesterday. You all get along well, but…” she frowned slightly, “it’s too polite. There’s no ‘pink’ romantic spark, no ‘newlywed’ feeling. What do you think?”
The guests continued eating, heads down.
Ruan Youran: “Yiyi, give me a bun. I want the small one.”
Director Niu: “…”
Niu waved her hand. “Alright, let’s film some sweet daily interactions. We need content for the trailer.”
For most, jumping straight into “sweet daily life” would be awkward, but these six were professional actors.
“Let’s start with the Sunset Glow group.”
President Qin had come up with a very domestic idea: dyeing Lan Ke’s hair. It was a perfect fit for the audience’s expectations. Despite being a CEO who never served anyone, Qin was surprisingly skilled at mixing the dye.
“You’re quite good at this, President Qin,” Lan Ke said, surprised.
“Don’t be so polite, Sister. We’re ‘married.’ Just call me Lanlan.”
The onlookers: “…” Lanlan… such a cute name for the iron-faced President Qin. The contrast is jarring.
Lan Ke looked stunned. Qin Yanlan looked up and smiled at her reflection in the mirror. “How is it? Is my technique… skilled?”
Technique… skilled… Lan Ke’s face flushed. At her age, she’d heard plenty of suggestive talk, but hearing it from this prim and proper CEO…
Director Niu was moved to tears behind the screen. “Oh, Lanlan is so dedicated! Such good technique! She’s ‘Master Qin Tony.’ So moving.”
Next were Lin Yiyi and Song Ci.
Song Ci was shy, but Yiyi took charge. “Let’s dazzle them,” Yiyi whispered, grabbing Song Ci’s hand. She began a sultry dance around her. Song Ci started out blushing, but under Yiyi’s lead, she began to find her rhythm. One was flirtatious, the other was shy but daring. The dance looked like a story of a wild romance.
Chu Nian watched closely, realizing she had underestimated Song Ci. The girl was highly versatile.
Ruan Youran watched for a bit, then muttered, “Yiyi’s flirting a bit too much.”
Chu Nian glanced at her. Youran immediately rolled her eyes.
The dance ended to thunderous applause. As the excitement lingered, everyone turned to Chu Nian and Ruan Youran.
Both were incredibly talented. Youran often posted original guitar songs on Weibo, and Chu Nian was a world-class pianist. Everyone expected a musical duet or a dramatic scene.
As the cameras swung toward them, Youran panicked. What do we do? What can we perform?!
Chu Nian’s “Film Queen” aura took over. She smiled faintly and looked at Youran.
“Let’s go to the bed.”
Ruan Youran: “???”
Everyone else: “…!!!”
AAAAAHHHHH!!!!
