Being a "Golden Finger" for my Movie Queen Love-Rival (GL) - Chapter 3
Song Jianyin watched her sister remain silent for a long time. Thinking her silence was a confirmation, she grew stern: “We of the Song family do not use our power to bully others. Do you understand?”
This was an easy question to answer. Song Jianzhi nodded like a little chick pecking for grain. She even wanted to declare that she was ready to turn over a new leaf and dedicate her life to supporting Ming Xu’s rise to Movie Queen status—all to secure her permanent residency in this Jinjiang world. Wouldn’t that be a sweet deal?
Looking at her sister’s tiny face, Song Jianyin was reminded of how her sister looked as a child—as beautiful as a porcelain doll.
Remembering that her sister had been all alone abroad for these past years, Song Jianyin’s heart softened. After a moment of thought, she said, “You’re grown now. I can’t always make decisions for you.”
“That matter you mentioned before—about wanting to enter the entertainment industry—I’ve agreed to it.”
Song Jianzhi: “Huh?”
She was completely dazed.
Song Jianyin picked up a thick document folder and handed it to her. Judging by the fact that it sat at the very top of a pile of brick-thick files, one could catch a glimpse of how much Song Jianyin prioritized her sister’s affairs.
Song Jianzhi reached out to take it, her mind racing to recall the original body’s memories.
Song Jianyin said casually, “This is the information on our family’s entertainment company. Since you’ve just returned to the country and want to play around in the entertainment circle, you can. There are several new scripts from directors in there; pick one you like. They will all give the Song family a bit of face.”
Carrying the folder back to her room, Song Jianzhi finally managed to dig up a memory from half a month ago: the original Song Jianzhi had begged her sister to help her enter the industry.
In the original novel, this had never been mentioned. The original Song Jianzhi never debuted; she had likely been kept on a tight leash by Song Jianyin and could only settle for being a professional bully.
Massaging her sore waist, Song Jianzhi mused, “Have I unlocked an ‘Entertainment Industry’ side quest?”
The system replied warmly: “Host has the right to choose freely. Fate is ever-changing; the original development of this small world serves only as a reference.”
Song Jianzhi nodded, set down the folder, and went to take a long, thorough bath.
While washing, she gossiped with the system, her tone a mix of mock-distress and boasting: “Can what I did with Sister Ming Xu last night even be called ‘taking a bath’? At most, that was ‘splashing around in the water.'”
Seeing the wall of mosaic-censored visuals accompanied by her loud chattering, the system immediately served up a Panda Head meme: [Will you please just shut up already.jpg]
Song Jianzhi hummed a tune as she scrubbed herself clean, then crawled back into bed to catch up on sleep. She didn’t wake up until past 1 PM, feeling refreshed as she headed downstairs to forage for food.
The nanny had already prepared all of her favorite dishes.
Song Jianzhi wasn’t a picky eater and enjoyed her meal immensely. She didn’t see Song Jianyin; after asking Uncle Li, she learned that her sister had headed to the office immediately after their morning chat.
Big sister is really busy.
If big sister can do it, so can little sister.
Time to start working!
Song Jianzhi, full and satisfied, curled up on a lounge chair on the balcony and opened the document folder.
At the very top was the data for the entertainment company. She remembered the Song family had started in the industrial sector. Their reach was broad, but they weren’t particularly prominent in the entertainment world.
But when Song Jianzhi looked closer, her eyes widened.
She asked uncertainly, “Is Star Universe (Xing Han) one of the three companies in the novel that stand in a tripartite balance with Ming Xu’s company?”
The system confirmed: “Yes. Westward (Xi Wang), Bole, and Star Universe are the three domestic entertainment giants. Ming Xu is currently an artist under Westward.”
Song Jianzhi thought aloud: “No wonder in the book, after Wei Xiao took over the Song family’s assets, he forced Ming Xu to jump ship to Star Universe.”
The private contact information for the company’s high-level executives and several gold-medal agents was all listed. Song Jianzhi flipped through them and set them aside. Her phone was lost, and Uncle Li was currently getting her a replacement, so she couldn’t contact anyone yet.
Song Jianzhi picked up the scripts. There were three in total. She lined them up and was instantly drawn to the one in the middle: “Whoa! Isn’t this Sister Ming Xu’s ‘White Moonlight’?”
“Unbelieving in Fate” was the final work of the famous author, Elder Hu, to be adapted for the screen. The reason it became the widely recognized “White Moonlight” of Ming Xu’s career was twofold. First, Ming Xu herself loved Elder Hu’s works; she had missed out on this role due to scheduling conflicts and never had another chance to participate in one of his projects before he passed, making it her lifelong regret.
Secondly, Elder Hu had mentioned in a later interview that during the initial casting, he felt Ming Xu’s appearance and temperament were the best fit for the female lead. It was only after she was unavailable that he chose the actress He Xilan. His tone during the interview had been full of regret.
Needless to say, the obstacles in the female lead’s career were certainly the handiwork of the male lead and the female supporting characters.
Song Jianzhi recalled the plot and gripped the script titled “Unbelieving in Fate.” She said solemnly, “My chance to shine has arrived. Song Jianzhi, let’s go!”
Ming Xu called her assistant, Li Man, to bring her a change of clothes before heading to the office.
Westward occupied an entire building. She walked into the company wearing a white suit, her long chestnut hair draped simply over her shoulders. Her eyes were light, her lips a nude shade, and her expression cold and sharp. She kept her posture upright and looked straight ahead.
Even as she simply walked past, the receptionists and colleagues—who were used to seeing stars of all sizes—couldn’t help but fall silent, their breathing turning soft.
In the office of her manager, Pei Zishu:
Ming Xu knocked and entered. Pei Zishu was speaking into a phone in a low voice and only looked up when she arrived.
“Sister Pei,” Li Man greeted her obediently first. She helped Ming Xu sit down and busily poured her a glass of plain water.
Pei Zishu glanced at them, finished her instructions, and hung up. She asked point-blank: “What happened?”
Ming Xu drank her water quietly. Li Man pretended ignorance: “Nothing happened.”
“Don’t give me that.” Pei Zishu glared at her. “Don’t even think about hiding it from me.”
Li Man trembled. Could… could Sister Pei already know?
Heaven knows her “old face” had turned red when she went to the hotel that morning to pick up her artist and saw the chaotic state of the bed.
Ming Xu—who had always lived an ascetic life dedicated only to acting—had finally “tasted meat”!
Ming Xu leaned back leisurely and tilted her chin toward Pei Zishu, asking, “What do you know?”
Pei Zishu shook her phone. “Since last night, people have been messaging me. Over a dozen WeChat groups have exploded saying you were harassed by that troublesome eldest miss of the Song family.”
“We live in a society ruled by law; I doubt she’d dare do anything truly serious to you. But why haven’t you been replying to messages? And your phone was off?”
Ming Xu replied without changing her expression: “It ran out of battery.”
Pei Zishu continued: “Anyway, it’s good that you’re fine. Compared to those actresses targeting you, just bear with this young miss who was raised in a treasure bowl of wealth. After all, you don’t like Wei Xiao. In the past, she believed every rumor she heard while abroad, but now that she’s back in the country, she’ll see the truth for herself as time goes on—”
As Pei Zishu nagged, she turned to see Li Man’s face turning white and red in quick succession. She asked curiously, “Xiao Man?”
Ming Xu glanced at Li Man.
Li Man shook her head violently: “Nothing, it’s nothing.”
Pei Zishu’s gaze circled between Ming Xu and Li Man. She asked suspiciously, “Did Song Jianzhi really bully you?”
Ming Xu seemed to remember something. She gave a faint smile and said, “No.”
Pei Zishu was skeptical.
Li Man felt like a dog in the sun.
Sister Pei, you’re guessing in the completely wrong direction!
It’s more like Miss Song… took your artist for a ride!
