Carrying My Senior's Coffin (GL) - Chapter 14
“The Dean seems to be less than 30 this year,” Fang Yiyi said, chewing on her chopsticks and calculating. “She seems to be about your age, Senior Sister. Do you know her classmate?”
“No, I don’t. Eat your food.”
“Oh.” Li Ting wasn’t interested in the topic and didn’t want to talk more, so Fang Yiyi didn’t ask and ate obediently.
After eating, Fang Yiyi lay on the bed playing with her phone and accidentally clicked on a video. A sudden moan echoed through the quiet dorm room.
Li Ting: “…”
Fang Yiyi: “…”
Li Ting flexed her wrist and approached menacingly: “Such a deceitful little thing. You were just pretending when you cried out in pain, weren’t you?”
Fang Yiyi’s cheeks were crimson with shame. She stammered incoherently: “No, no, no, I’m not, I didn’t… Ugh!”
She was perfectly subdued by Li Ting.
Fang Yiyi was tormented until late, adding a few more purplish bruises to her body.
The next day, the Dean of Students came. Fang Yiyi was memorizing vocabulary at the time. The door banged thump-thump-thump, loud and hurried, jarringly abrupt in the quiet environment. Fang Yiyi was startled, almost dropping her book.
Fang Yiyi: “…”
Li Ting vanished from sight.
Fang Yiyi sighed and went to open the door with a palpable sense of reluctance and resignation.
“Yiyi, good morning.”
Compared to yesterday, the Dean seemed to have dressed up carefully. She wore a white dress, light makeup, and her long, slightly curled hair was draped over her shoulders, making her look like a college student in her early twenties, beautiful and pure. She greeted Fang Yiyi cheerfully.
Perhaps because Li Ting was not human, Fang Yiyi couldn’t appreciate the beauty of anyone else—male or female—besides Li Ting. So, she only gave the Dean a quick glance, concluded that ‘the Dean looks very young today,’ and had no other thoughts.
Out of politeness, Fang Yiyi stepped aside and said falsely, “Good morning, Dean. Please come in quickly.”
Then, as the Dean walked past, her face slumped into a frown toward the Dean’s back.
And the instant the Dean turned around, she plastered a smile on her face.
It was a display of utter social tact.
“Please sit, Teacher.” Fang Yiyi moved the only chair over.
The Dean didn’t sit down. She took out a beautifully packaged box of Blue Sen brand skincare products and handed it to Fang Yiyi: “A gift from me.”
Fang Yiyi was overwhelmed, feeling no joy at receiving a gift, and said with alarm, “That’s too much, Teacher. I can’t accept it. It’s too extravagant. You shouldn’t have.”
Blue Sen cosmetics was a long-standing national brand, famous at home and abroad. Fang Yiyi had seen it on her mother’s dressing table when she was little. In short, it was as expensive as it was famous.
Given her relationship with the Dean, Fang Yiyi felt utterly unworthy of accepting this!
No good deed is done for nothing; if someone is too eager to please, they’re either a fraud or a thief!
She absolutely could not accept it!
Fang Yiyi’s internal alarms blared. She looked at the square box, decorated with cute bluebirds, as if it were a time bomb.
The Dean was startled, then covered her mouth and chuckled, like an unhatched chick.
Fang Yiyi: “…”
The Dean teased, “Yiyi is shy! Don’t worry, it didn’t cost much. I’m a little embarrassed to say,” she smiled with crescent eyes. Her mascara-coated lashes were distinct, like small stiff brushes: “I bought it for a special promotion to fill the order. I bought it in a hurry and realized I got the wrong one. I have oily skin, and this set is for combination to dry skin. I thought it would be perfect for you.”
Fang Yiyi said, “It must still be quite expensive. You should just return it…”
“Oh, no,” the Dean interrupted her: “I bought this to use a coupon. Returning it would mean refunding the discounted amount, which is troublesome and not worth it. Besides, I brought it all the way here. How can Yiyi ask me to take it back? That would be so embarrassing for me, wouldn’t it?”
Fang Yiyi scratched her head, not understanding why the Dean would be embarrassed if she didn’t accept it.
“Just take it. Girls need to take care of themselves. Look how dry your skin is.” She said, tucking the box into Fang Yiyi’s hands without question.
“But this… Teacher…”
The Dean’s face hardened: “If you don’t take it now, I’ll be upset.”
… Fine.
Fang Yiyi, unable to find the right words, failed to refuse and begrudgingly accepted it.
The Dean was satisfied: “That’s better. Good girl.”
“Teacher, I’m an adult now. I’m not a child,” Fang Yiyi said, getting goosebumps and unable to resist contradicting her.
The Dean blinked, and her gaze upon Fang Yiyi gradually became meaningful. She said slowly, “That’s right. You’re 19 years old now. You’re not a child anymore. You’re even a year older than we were back then…”
Fang Yiyi couldn’t fully grasp her meaning and nodded ignorantly, saying vaguely, “Oh… oh. Time flies quickly.”
“Uh-huh.” The Dean was very familiar and walked around the room, scrutinizing every corner. She sighed: “It hasn’t changed much from before.”
It was just a dorm room. Unless the school renovated, how could it change?
Fang Yiyi was complaining wildly internally, but again was at a loss for words when it came to speaking. Still feeling obliged to say something, she started talking nonsense.
“Was the Teacher also a student at Zhengling Women’s University?”
“Yes. The three of us chose this school together, and we all got in.”
“That’s nice.” Fang Yiyi blinked, not asking who the three people were, as they were the Dean’s friends, and she wouldn’t know them anyway.
The Dean’s smile, however, faded slightly. She forced a small smile: “Nice? I wish we had all gone our separate ways back then.”
“Isn’t it good to be with friends?” Although Fang Yiyi had no one, she longed for a friend. Alas, suffering from advanced social anxiety, she could only watch others gather with friends, envying them wistfully.
“Two people are enough. Three is a crowd,” the Dean pouted.
“Uh…” Fang Yiyi didn’t know if she should respond. This was outside her knowledge base.
The Dean glanced at her and smiled: “In a group of three, two people fall in love, and the third person is quite superfluous, don’t you think?”
“…” Fang Yiyi thought about it and felt she could understand: “It does sound like being a third wheel, huh? The other two go out with their boyfriends, and the one left has no one to hang out with.”
The Dean’s smile didn’t change, but she shook her head: “It would have been fine if it had stayed that way. Unfortunately, people change.”
At this, Fang Yiyi was completely speechless.
“Time really flies,” the Dean said again.
Fang Yiyi knew how to respond to that: “It does. One day after another.”
“Yes…” The Dean’s gaze leveled, looking toward the distant tall buildings. A hint of sorrow clouded her brow, and she sighed: “Even though such a huge thing happened, we were foolishly convinced that it was just another ordinary day among countless days and nights.”
Those words were maddeningly vague.
“What happened?” Fang Yiyi’s eyes glazed over. She gave up trying to figure out the context and just focused on the meaning of a single word: “What happened that day?”
“Hmm…” The Dean repeated, murmuring: “What happened…”
Fang Yiyi: “.”
The Dean’s gaze slowly scanned the room. Then she closed her eyes, seemingly remembering, and said softly: “That day, the person I loved left me.”
“Ah…” Fang Yiyi was startled. She recalled that the Dean seemed to be single to this day: “That’s too bad. Didn’t you confess?”
“No,” the Dean smiled and shook her head: “I should have said it long ago, but I was too timid back then. I was afraid she would reject me, and if we couldn’t even be friends anymore, wouldn’t that be… I’m happy to be able to talk about it here today.”
Fang Yiyi scratched her hair: “Did the Teacher never contact him afterward?”
The Dean didn’t speak and shook her head again. Whether it was her imagination or not, Fang Yiyi felt that there seemed to be tears glistening in the Dean’s eyes.
Oh no!
Fang Yiyi panicked, her inner self screaming, desperately searching for comforting words: “Uh… that… Teacher, please don’t be sad. It’s his loss. You…”
The Dean burst out laughing, looking at the flustered Fang Yiyi, and said, “You are so adorable. Alright, I won’t tease you anymore. It’s getting late. I have a faculty meeting to attend soon, so I’ll be going now.”
“The Teacher is leaving?” Fang Yiyi felt a surge of joy.
“Mhm. Yiyi, you were studying, right? Study hard, and keep it up!” She made a motivational gesture: “I’m leaving. Bye-bye.”
Fang Yiyi escorted the Dean to the door, her voice laced with cheerfulness: “Bye-bye~”
Closing the door, Fang Yiyi let out a deep breath. She turned around to see Li Ting sitting on the edge of the bed with her legs crossed, looking up at her with a displeased expression.
“Senior Sister?” Fang Yiyi was momentarily stunned, a question mark slowly appearing over her head.
“This Dean of Students of yours,” Li Ting frowned: “Try not to bring her here again.”
“Ah…” Fang Yiyi blinked. It wasn’t directed at her, so she breathed a sigh of relief. However, seeing Li Ting’s expression, she wisely didn’t ask further, “Okay, I understand.”
“Mhm.” Li Ting nodded without expression.
