Ending Up with the Female Lead’s Mom - Chapter 1
In mid-July, the weather was stiflingly hot. Even the leaves on the trees wilted lifelessly, yet the girls in the bar remained full of vigorous energy.
Gu Zhanci casually ordered a cocktail and looked at the girl opposite her with composed interest.
The girl wore heavy, glamorous makeup that didn’t suit her age, forcibly transforming a young girl into a sultry woman—though the baby fat on her cheeks still betrayed her youth.
“Well? Why have you been staring at me?”
The moment Gu Zhanci entered the bar, she felt this gaze locked onto her. She originally thought it was just an idle flirt, but she hadn’t expected a young girl dressed so eccentrically.
This was a lesbian bar; most people present were gay.
Gu Zhanci had been teased by her best friend, Lu Lu, before—saying that “Big Sisters” like her were the most popular type among the young “pups” in the circle. Unfortunately, Gu Zhanci wasn’t queer; she didn’t like women.
She only came here because Lu Lu liked meeting at this spot.
The girl across from her revealed an innocent smile. Propping her chin in her hands, she said, “I’m trying to please my future mother-in-law to ease the relationship before I join the family.”
Gu Zhanci: “…”
Not expecting that answer, she rubbed her temples. “What do you mean?”
The girl’s smile remained sweet. “Exactly what I said.”
Gu Zhanci set down her glass, her eyes narrowing slightly. “You like my daughter, so you came here to suck up to me?”
The girl’s “peach blossom” eyes were misty, and her voice was thin and soft as she asked, “Is that not allowed?”
Gu Zhanci replied without leaving any room for negotiation: “It’s allowed, but it’s useless. I don’t interfere in my daughter’s love life, nor do I support her dating while she’s in school.”
To be precise, she forbade it.
“But how will you know it’s useless if you don’t try?” The girl tilted her head and asked naively. That innocence felt polished, carrying a strange sense of artificiality.
Gu Zhanci simply thought young people had bizarre ideas nowadays. Seeing Lu Lu waving at her from a distance, she didn’t bother arguing further. She gave the girl a polite nod and walked over to Lu Lu.
“Rare. You’re actually three minutes late today,” Lu Lu said, crossing her arms with a smile in her eyes.
Gu Zhanci checked her watch and corrected her: “Two and a half minutes.”
“Fine, two and a half it is.”
Lu Lu looked at her mischievously. “I finally go through a breakup and ask you to comfort me, but you? You get here and immediately start chatting up a young girl. Tell me, are you planning on ‘eating tender grass’ (dating someone much younger)?”
Gu Zhanci didn’t want to explain much, but she also didn’t want to be accused of being a cradle robber. She said coldly, “That person likes Gu Shiyue. It has nothing to do with me.”
“Who? Who does she like?” Lu Lu’s eyes nearly popped out.
“She likes Gu Shiyue. She said she approached me to ease the mother-in-law relationship in advance.” Gu Zhanci had never met someone who played such a direct “straight ball,” nor had she ever heard of the logic of pleasing the mother first because you like the daughter.
Lu Lu couldn’t hold it in anymore.
“Hahahaha! Hahahaha!”
“Your daughter has more charm than you; you should self-reflect.”
“What a waste of your good looks. It’s a pity you don’t date.”
Gu Zhanci: “…”
Lu Lu craned her neck. “I thought she was just hitting on you, so I didn’t look closely. What does she look like? Sweet girl or ‘Alpha’ lady? Come on, ‘Future Mother-in-law,’ vet her for your daughter.”
Gu Zhanci took a sip of her drink and looked up. “See for yourself. The one in the black camisole.”
The girl was now joined by a shorter girl.
“Eh? Isn’t that the little princess of the Su family? How did your Gu Shiyue get mixed up with her?” Lu Lu’s gaze turned meaningful. “Oh dear, I’m the one who’s heartbroken, yet you don’t even know how to coax me.”
Gu Zhanci gave her a look and ignored her. Lu Lu was “heartbroken” 365 days a year.
Guoguo had just come out of the restroom when she saw Su Ming talking to a mature woman. That woman’s clothes and aura were completely out of place here. She observed secretly and only ran over after the woman left.
“Mingming, who was that woman you were talking to? So ‘hot.’ That waist is a killer, and her legs look twice as long as mine.”
Guoguo was petite, standing at 155cm with a baby face and a sweet voice. If she went out, people would believe she was a middle schooler.
Su Ming leaned against the bar, biting her straw, her eyes full of interest. “You think she’s beautiful too, right? The book said she was beautiful, but I didn’t expect her to be this beautiful.”
When describing the female lead’s mother, Gu Zhanci, the book used words almost exclusively related to perfection. Perfect figure, perfect features, elegant temperament—a one-in-a-million existence. Su Ming just hadn’t expected such looks to actually exist in reality.
Today, Gu Zhanci wore a black sleeveless top. In this sweltering summer, it looked a bit heavy, but her face seemed to have been specially favored by the Creator. Every millimeter was flawless. She had glowing, cold-white skin and medium-length straight black hair that gave off an inadvertent chill.
Sexiness hidden beneath a cold exterior was the most lethal kind.
Su Ming curled her lips into a smile, her eyes sparkling.
Guoguo was completely dazed. “The book? What book? Who is she?”
Su Ming pressed her tongue against the straw, realizing she had slipped up. But since Guoguo was naturally ditzy, she sat up straight and said, “I mean a magazine. She’s Gu Shiyue’s mother.”
Guoguo gave an “Oh,” froze for a few seconds, then reacted with a shriek: “What?! Gu Shiyue’s mom?!”
She was so shocked she couldn’t control her volume. Seeing people look over, her face instantly turned red.
Su Ming nodded. When Gu Zhanci was close, she could smell a faint, cold fragrance. Gu Zhanci was like a walking refrigerator; in this heat, getting close to her was refreshing.
Guoguo whispered, “You like Gu Shiyue, so why are you hitting on her mom? Does Gu Shiyue know?”
Su Ming shrugged. “I’m not hitting on her. I just saw her mom was pretty, so I chatted with her to establish a presence. Gu Shiyue probably doesn’t know.”
Guoguo still found it hard to believe. “How do you even know her mom? Your ‘simp’ business is getting too broad!”
Su Ming: “…”
Guoguo immediately made an “I was wrong” face.
She and Su Ming were friends and of the same “kind.” They had shared dreams and used shared methods. In the words of others, they were both “simps.”
The only difference was that Guoguo simped for a man—Luo Su, a member of the rising domestic idol group NCS—while Su Ming simped for a woman—Gu Shiyue, the recognized school goddess of Hongyan No. 7 High School.
And now Su Ming was involved with Gu Shiyue’s mother.
Guoguo felt her brain capacity wasn’t enough. Dating in school meant being terrified of parents finding out; why was Su Ming proactively approaching the parent? Was she trying to take a “curved route” to save the nation (win the daughter via the mother)?
Guoguo urged, “Quick, tell me, how do you know her?”
Su Ming hummed. She was a transmigrator, not a native of this world. She came with a built-in radar to easily identify book characters.
And the Gu Zhanci who just appeared was none other than the Female Lead’s mother. She occupied a large portion of the original book’s descriptions. A charming woman is popular anywhere.
Only Gu Zhanci could possess such a striking face and aura. Su Ming had read the original book twice; the book mentioned that Gu Zhanci’s favorite bar was this very one.
The book Su Ming transmigrated into was called The Exception, a campus Yuri novel. The female lead was the cold school goddess Gu Shiyue, and the second female lead was the introverted top student Lin Yi.
Lin Yi had excellent grades but a poor family background. The book told the story of how they met, got to know each other, broke their own rules for one another, and became each other’s “exception.” It basically followed the classic “Overbearing CEO and Cinderella” plot.
Su Ming was the “vicious female supporting character” in that story.
She was one grade higher than the female lead and was the female lead’s simp. Because the female lead liked the second female lead, Su Ming frequently caused trouble for Lin Yi. The ending for the simp was a miserable death—she reaped what she sowed and died in a car accident.
As a transmigrator with the same name, Su Ming naturally wanted to change her fate. She originally thought that as long as she clung to the female lead’s leg, she could reach the top.
But things didn’t go as planned. No female lead likes a simp with no self-respect. And Su Ming didn’t want to press her warm face against the female lead’s cold backside.
Moreover, the female lead’s mother, Gu Zhanci, was even more beautiful and charming than she had imagined. Su Ming had temporarily changed her “leg-clinging” strategy: she was going to cling to the mother’s leg instead.
In the original book, the mother was essentially an antagonist—a stumbling block on the road to romance for the leads because she didn’t support her daughter dating.
She was also Su Ming’s favorite character when reading.
Seeing Su Ming dawdling and not speaking, Guoguo said anxiously, “Ugh, you still haven’t said how you know her! You’re killing me!”
Su Ming said vaguely, “It’s a secret. I can’t say.”
Guoguo rolled her eyes so hard they almost hit the ceiling. “Then what did you guys talk about just now?”
Su Ming: “Nothing much. Just said hello to leave a deep impression.”
Guoguo, unaware she was just an NPC in a novel, looked toward Gu Zhanci and whispered gossip: “Do you think the fact that Gu Shiyue’s mom comes to a lesbian bar means she’s queer too? That she likes women?”
Su Ming: “You’re here too. Are you queer?”
“Of course not! I only like my Susu.”
Guoguo felt a bit of regret. “If she were queer, that would be great. Then you two would have something in common, and you could take the ‘curved route’ to easily win over Gu Shiyue.”
Su Ming’s eyelashes flickered, unconcerned. “Who said I definitely want to win over Gu Shiyue?”
Compared to the currently immature and youthful female lead, Su Ming preferred approaching a mature woman like the mother.
“Not win over Gu Shiyue? Did you have a change of heart?”
Su Ming: “…”
“You’re actually betraying our Simp Alliance! Tell me, who is it?”
Su Ming instinctively turned her head to look toward Gu Zhanci.
The “curved route” was real, but her target wasn’t the female lead—it was the mother. Between two sets of legs to cling to, one should naturally choose the stronger one.
Just then, Gu Zhanci looked over as well. Their gazes met in the air. After a brief collision, Gu Zhanci frowned slightly, her eyes filled with scrutiny and questioning.
Su Ming’s lips curved upward as she gave her a soft smile.
She acted so naturally, as if they were old acquaintances.
Guoguo was shocked. “She, she, she… You, you, you…”
“You two can’t! You aren’t from the same world!”
“That doesn’t matter.” Su Ming stood up and walked over.
She wasn’t from this world to begin with.
