Female Lead, Something's Not Right (GL) - Chapter 19
In a daze, Gu Shiyan’s face flushed as she came back to her senses. Yu Kong lifted her forehead and took a step back. Gu Shiyan stared blankly at the Goddess and the familiar alchemy room.
“Just now, that was—!”
It was too real! Whether it was the touch or the sound, it felt as if she had personally experienced it.
“I have a three-life love karma with you. Your last life was completely dark, and I couldn’t see anything. Logically, my love tribulation should have been over in the last life, and I should have ascended to the Immortal Realm. I don’t know why it was postponed to this life.” Yu Kong looked at Gu Shiyan with a searching gaze.
Gu Shiyan felt like she had thorns in her back. She didn’t want to get too involved with either True Monarch Hehua or the Goddess.
“This disciple does not care about past lives and only wishes for peace in the present. The memory just now was only shown to this disciple by the Goddess. But this disciple understands that I am merely a disciple of the Tianxuan Sect, not a tavern dancer. I hope the Lady will not confuse the two.” Gu Shiyan bowed her head. “It is late. As there is a difference in status between this disciple and the Lady, it is best not to break the rules. It would be inconvenient to come to the spiritual pool tomorrow.”
Yu Kong stared at Gu Shiyan’s resolute eyes and said no more. “If you need help in the future, you may come and find me.”
Gu Shiyan looked at the token carved with snowflakes that Yu Kong offered, smiled, and shook her head. “Since the Buddhist School speaks of fate, if this disciple is in trouble, the Goddess will surely appear.”
For some reason, after saying all that, Gu Shiyan felt much lighter. Walking out the door, the moonlight was bright, the cold stars were sparse, and the snow pressed down on the proud plum blossoms. The girl under the plum blossoms turned to look at Yu Kong, who stood at the door like a cold statue. She revealed a long-lost expression of joy, and with respect for the Venerable, she chuckled softly.
“I wish the Goddess a good rest.” Her figure turned and disappeared into the Green Bamboo Forest.
A sigh full of meaning lingered in the air.
Gu Shiyan hadn’t been out of the Three Star Peak for long. Just as she arrived at the main entrance of the Alchemy Division, she heard rustling behind her. A chill ran down her spine. Her hair stood on end, and she looked behind her alertly, searching for the sight of a guard.
Who is it! Is Qin Qianqian still laying in wait here!
Gu Shiyan quickened her pace. Without daring to look back, she bolted into her bedroom and slammed the door shut, letting out a huge sigh of relief.
“Wanwan! Are you alright!” Chu Ning anxiously walked over. “We all heard about your situation.”
Gu Shiyan turned and saw Chu Ning’s anxious face. The other girls in the room, who usually got along well with Zhou Yun, looked cold and even wary. She quickly scanned the room but didn’t see Zhou Yun.
The atmosphere was heavy. Chu Ning awkwardly scratched her head. “Zhou Yun has been expelled from the sect and sent down the mountain. Her spiritual meridians are completely destroyed, and she can no longer cultivate.”
Gu Shiyan didn’t say anything and ignored the other roommates who were normally close to Zhou Yun.
“Don’t worry, the Judicial Hall’s notice has already been posted.” Chu Ning paused and whispered, “Senior Sister Qin brought disaster upon herself and committed suicide by poison in the water prison.”
“She’s dead!” Gu Shiyan was shocked! She wasn’t surprised that Qin Qianqian would be punished by the Judicial Hall since the Goddess caught her in the act of assaulting her, but how could such a vicious person commit suicide by poison! The intricacies of the matter remained unknown.
Chu Ning showed a cheerful smile to ease the awkwardness. “Oh, never mind that. The most important thing now is the main event. You might not know, but the inner sect competition has been moved up! There are only three months left! I’m worried that if you don’t break through to the sixth stage of Qi Refining in such a short time, you might have to wait ten years for the next competition.”
“Three months!”
New information was hitting her again. So many unusual things had happened on the most ordinary of days. Gu Shiyan felt utterly exhausted.
“I still have Marrow Cleansing Pills on hand. Breaking through should not be difficult during this time of seclusion.”
“And your injuries, are they better? Everyone is saying that you received the Goddess’s grace and were able to heal in the spiritual pool. Is that true?”
Gu Shiyan nodded. “The Goddess saw that my dantian was damaged and did allow me to soak in the spiritual pool today, but I’ve politely declined to continue.”
Chu Ning was surprised. “Are you stupid? Why would you refuse such a good opportunity!”
“It’s fine. I think I can make it with hard work. We can worry about the dantian later. The competition is what’s important now.”
The entire conversation in the room was overheard by Shen Shu on the roof. Her brows slightly furrowed, and a hint of doubt arose in her heart regarding the girl’s decision.
The great rock formation was built on a small spiritual vein and had a special spiritual energy gathering array. Cultivating in this formation yielded twice the results with half the effort. The paths were currently filled with disciples rushing to the formation, all preparing for the Inner Sect Competition three months later. The matter of Qin Qianqian had long been forgotten.
As outer sect disciples, Gu Shiyan and Chu Ning found a corner with sparse spiritual energy and sat down cross-legged. Whispers of discussion still reached their ears.
“This year is truly strange. In previous years, only big sects with well-known names could participate in the Inner Sect Competition. This year, even some small factions can join.”
“That’s not the point. The notice said that the rewards for all winners are double what they were before!”
“With more people, the chances are greater. It coincides with the Immortal Market, and the prices of all elixirs and artifacts have doubled several times over.”
From this information, Gu Shiyan also sensed a war without smoke being declared. All her previous worries were thrown aside. She swallowed the Marrow Cleansing Pill and focused on cultivating. Her spiritual meridians, which were originally abnormally blocked, could only absorb spiritual energy in trickles. As the medicinal effect of the Marrow Cleansing Pill took effect, the spiritual energy suddenly surged into her meridians, giving her a feeling of clarity and relief, like seeing the sun after the clouds have parted.
Seeing this, Chu Ning immediately knew that Gu Shiyan was about to break through. She quickly stopped and guarded her, watching the surroundings to prevent any accidents. After an unknown amount of time, a circle of spiritual energy spread out from Gu Shiyan, signaling a breakthrough in her cultivation.
“That’s great, Xiao Wan! Your cultivation has reached the sixth stage, and you can participate in the Inner Sect Competition!” Chu Ning was genuinely happy for her friend.
“Thank you for guarding me.” Although Gu Shiyan knew that her breakthrough shouldn’t have been a problem, she was still very excited when it actually happened. She saw her friend’s protection and thanked her sincerely.
Chu Ning patted Gu Shiyan on the shoulder carelessly. “We’ve been roommates for four or five years. There’s no need to thank me for such a small thing. Hurry and consolidate your cultivation while you’re still in the breakthrough stage.”
A foul smell wafted over. Gu Shiyan looked at the shallow layer of black oil stains on her hands. “I just cleansed my marrow. I’m too dirty. You continue to cultivate. I’ll go take care of myself and wait for you in the alchemy room.”
“Why bother? Just use a cleansing spell.” Chu Ning raised her voice, drawing a slight grunt of dissatisfaction from a disciple nearby.
Gu Shiyan whispered, “I’m still not used to it, and it won’t take much time.”
At this hour, everyone was either cultivating or busy preparing for the competition items for the Inner Sect Competition. The bathing room was empty, offering a rare moment of peace. Gu Shiyan walked to the innermost cubicle. She changed out of her foul-smelling clothes, sat in the wooden tub, and removed the stopper from the water outlet, allowing the warm water to flow.
She changed the water twice before her body was completely clean. She wasn’t thinking much as she wiped her body, but when she touched the red cherry of her nipple, a tingling sensation came. She looked down at her reflection in the water, which overlapped with the memory of herself constrained by True Monarch Hehua in the copper mirror. That long-sealed scene surged back like a tidal wave.
Gu Shiyan’s cheeks flushed. She quickly let go and hastily wiped her face. Reaching out to pick up her clothes, she suddenly saw the storage bag gifted by True Monarch Hehua. She couldn’t help but pick it up and examine it closely.
A voice suddenly appeared behind the screen.
“If you miss me, you can just come to Hehua Peak to find me. Why stare at this lifeless object and think of me?”
