How to Conquer the Tsundere Second Female Lead (GL) - Chapter 3
In the end, Ye Minyi said nothing further. He dropped Chu Fan off at her apartment building, made plans to go to work together tomorrow, and then drove away. Chu Fan looked at the apartment complex in front of her. Although she was the “poorest” character among the protagonists in the novel, this apartment was much more luxurious than the small rental she had in reality. It was a good thing Ye Minyi drove her back, or she wouldn’t have known where she lived.
After taking a shower and staring at herself in the bathroom mirror for a long time, Chu Fan nodded with satisfaction before collapsing onto her bed. She couldn’t recall the exact details of the later plot, but she knew the general outline. In short, her younger self, for some unknown reason, had written both the female lead and the second female lead to be completely obsessed with love, the male lead wasn’t great, and yet somehow it still ended happily ever after (HE).
With a plot like that, it would definitely be slammed into oblivion today.
Chu Fan prided herself on having read hundreds of transmigration novels. None of them were as simple as this, lacking even a system, leaving her to fend for herself. However, not having to follow the script meant she was free to change the plot and the ending, and she could properly figure out how to conquer He Yujuan, who viewed her as an enemy.
He Yujuan. Thinking of that name, Chu Fan sighed. Who would have thought that her ideal type would make her first appearance with such blatant dislike and a desire to slap her?
As she lamented the twists of fate, her phone suddenly vibrated on her pillow. Chu Fan opened it and saw a WeChat message from He Yujuan. Just before that, Ye Minyi had also messaged her, telling her to rest well this afternoon.
She ignored Ye Minyi’s message first, sat up abruptly, and tapped on her chat with He Yujuan. She hadn’t realized she and He Yujuan had even exchanged WeChat details!
However, as Ye Minyi’s secretary, it was common for her to exchange contact details with people from partner companies for easy communication, especially with the rich daughter of a partner company like He Yujuan. Besides her identity as an employee, He Yujuan probably added every girl around Ye Minyi for the sake of surveillance.
Their first chat was in July last year, the day she joined Ye Minyi’s company. She remembered He Yujuan being quite cordial then, and she hadn’t been so arrogant during their chats. Later, when Ye Minyi started pursuing her, He Yujuan’s attitude took a 180-degree turn.
Looking at the conversation—from last year’s use of emoticons and the coquettish message “Sister, I’m He Yujuan (?▽?)” to the current ones like “You are nothing in my eyes,” “Is Brother Minyi taking you to the ball tomorrow?”, “Don’t embarrass Brother Minyi,” and the message she just received, “Don’t think you’ve won”—Chu Fan smiled wryly and replied: “Okay.”
She didn’t feel like she had won at all. In fact, she wanted to reply in a dramatic style, “I lost, I was utterly defeated, because you don’t like me.” But then He Yujuan would probably think she was crazy.
He Yujuan didn’t reply again. Chu Fan clicked on her profile and saw that He Yujuan had posted a moment not long ago. After leaving the Ye family mansion, He Yujuan hadn’t gone home but had gone straight to her family’s company to help out. The photo was a screenshot of her processing emails at her desk, with the caption: So many emails, so tired, but I will keep going so I can be worthy of you.
This was exactly the kind of thing a young girl immersed in an unrequited crush would do. Chu Fan knew she wanted Ye Minyi to see it, but so far, Ye Minyi hadn’t liked it, so she gave it a like first.
Chu Fan hadn’t realized that rich daughters also had to work at their family companies. She felt like she had forgotten something, given the character setting was written over a decade ago. But she didn’t dwell on it. Instead, she suddenly had an idea.
Since this was the case, why didn’t she just pursue He Yujuan directly? It might be too early to talk about pursuit. She needed to figure out how to become best friends with He Yujuan first, even if the path would be difficult. So, the next move was to go to He Yujuan’s company and bring her afternoon tea to establish a good relationship!
With a plan in mind, Chu Fan changed into a cute dress that suited her current style and went out to buy cake and coffee. If she couldn’t be the sophisticated older woman, she would be the cute, charming girl to win He Yujuan’s heart! However, as things stood, He Yujuan would most likely see her as a “green tea” girl, or perhaps already did.
After buying the afternoon tea near her complex, Chu Fan hailed a cab and headed for the He Group. Thankfully, she still remembered the company’s name, and there was only one company named “He’s” in the city. When she got out of the car, she was stunned by the building, and even more shocked to see that the building next to the He Group was Ye Minyi’s family company—the Yiye Group.
The two imposing buildings stood side-by-side in this bustling financial district, perfectly matching the style and grandeur of corporate towers in those old romance novels. But who would have thought that she, a worker at the Yiye Group, would now be heading to the He Group? If Ye Minyi happened to be looking down from his office, he might even spot her.
Never mind, Chu Fan briskly walked into the He Group. As soon as she entered, she realized the entrance required an employee badge to enter. A miscalculation. She had rushed over in a heat of the moment and forgotten that office buildings like this couldn’t be freely accessed. But as luck would have it, just as she was about to sit on a nearby public sofa to wait for He Yujuan, she saw He Yujuan walking out of the elevator area, yawning, dressed in a light green pantsuit and wearing small heels.
Perfect. She must have finished work and come out for some fresh air or a coffee. If she thoughtfully handed her an iced latte and a sweet little cake right now, would He Yujuan’s opinion of her change?
The thought made her happy. Chu Fan raised her hand high, calling out to He Yujuan as if she were summoning a close friend, “He Yujuan, over here!”
He Yujuan had just finished yawning and hadn’t quite closed her mouth when she heard the annoying voice of her love rival. At first, she thought she was hallucinating, but when she saw the hands waving at her from a distance and the familiar face, she froze. What’s going on? Why was Chu Fan at her family’s company, smiling happily as if they were the best of friends?
“Is that your friend? You seem close. Is she bringing you afternoon tea?”
Someone actually thought so! He Yujuan gritted her teeth, told her new colleague beside her, “No, you go to the coffee shop first,” and walked straight toward Chu Fan.
“What are you doing here? Did Brother Minyi buy this for you? Are you here to show off to me?” He Yujuan looked at the paper bag in Chu Fan’s hand with disdain.
Her good intentions were once again misinterpreted. Chu Fan pursed her lips and shook her head, slightly wronged. “No, I bought this for you. Aren’t you tired from work?”
Hearing this, He Yujuan’s gaze became more suspicious. “You’re not trying to butter me up so I’ll accept you, are you? Do you think I’ll hand over Brother Minyi if you do this?”
“That’s not what I mean.” Chu Fan didn’t blame He Yujuan for thinking this way; after all, the He Yujuan she had written was exactly this type of person. “He Yujuan, I know you like Ye Minyi, but I’m not dating him…”
“Not dating him, but he takes you home? Not dating him, but you have his love? Is that what you’re trying to say?” Chu Fan was interrupted before she could finish. He Yujuan folded her arms across her chest, looking aggressive. “Chu Fan, you really have a way with things, but I’ve seen through your ‘green tea’ tricks. They won’t work on me, so don’t even think about trying to please me.” With that, she turned to leave.
I have no choice. Time for the killer move. Chu Fan grabbed He Yujuan’s hand and said softly, with a pitiful expression, “Sister, I really didn’t mean it that way. I know my place. I know I’m not worthy of Ye Minyi, so I just want to be friends with you, Sister.”
When she was in school, whenever a younger student called her Xue-jie (older school sister) or Jie-jie (sister), her heart would melt. Now was the perfect time to put that to practice. Conveniently, she was two months younger than He Yujuan here.
As expected, He Yujuan’s expression became highly shocked, and she started stammering. “What sis… sister? What are you talking about?” She looked flustered, glancing left and right. The security guards in the lobby, who had been watching an unfolding drama between sisters, quickly looked down and pretended to continue patrolling when they met He Yujuan’s gaze, but their ears were definitely straining.
He Yujuan pursed her lips and dragged Chu Fan into a meeting room on the twentieth floor. After all, most people working there knew she was the He family’s daughter and were aware of the “love-hate triangle” between her, Chu Fan, and Ye Minyi. Being overheard felt strange.
“What exactly do you want?” Closing the meeting room door, He Yujuan immediately spun around, pressing Chu Fan against the door with a frown.
Chu Fan never expected to be wall-slammed by a girl three years her junior. Because He Yujuan was already taller than her here and was wearing three-centimeter heels, Chu Fan was like a small, weak chick enveloped in He Yujuan’s shadow. But she smells good, and the feeling is actually quite nice.
However, if this went on, her increased heart rate and hidden smile might be noticed. Chu Fan nimbly slipped out from under the slender arms, placed the paper bag on the conference table, took out the cake and coffee, and smiled at He Yujuan. “Let’s talk while you eat.”
He Yujuan was indeed a little tired. She had been scolded by Ye Minyi at noon, and just when she was about to go home, her department manager called her back to the company to help out; she was no different from any ordinary worker. She looked up, sighed, then sat down. She unceremoniously took a sip of the latte, picked up a spoon, and started eating the matcha crepe cake. “Start talking.”
“Why don’t I talk after you finish? It’s inconvenient to talk while eating,” Chu Fan’s smile widened as she watched He Yujuan eat.
He Yujuan ignored her. She might have been hungry, or perhaps the cake tasted good. She finished it in a few bites, chugged almost half the latte, and then frowned at Chu Fan, saying crossly, “Okay, talk.”
“I actually finished saying it downstairs,” Chu Fan smiled innocently. She had been secretly watching He Yujuan while she ate. The beautiful face had softened considerably while eating the cake, but the expression changed back the moment she finished. Chu Fan pursed her lips helplessly and continued with a smile, “That cake is an internet-famous cake. You even have to queue up on weekends to buy it. So, how was it? Was it delicious?”
However, He Yujuan didn’t answer her question, and her beautiful eyebrows furrowed again. “Chu Fan, are you playing games with me?”
“I really am not. I just wanted you to eat this cake, because everyone says it’s delicious.” Chu Fan strangely felt that the situation was getting interesting; bickering with He Yujuan was quite fun. Perhaps after today, in He Yujuan’s mind, she wouldn’t just be a “green tea” girl, but maybe also a somewhat bothersome person.
“Then you can leave now. I’m going back to work.” He Yujuan was furious. She felt completely played by Chu Fan!
“But you need an employee badge to get out of the building, and I don’t have one. Could you please…”
“No. Figure it out yourself. Aren’t you resourceful?” Chu Fan was interrupted by He Yujuan once again. After saying this, He Yujuan stormed out of the meeting room, genuinely leaving Chu Fan behind.
Chu Fan wasn’t angry. She watched the beautiful, vanishing silhouette with amusement, starting to savor their not-quite-bickering exchange. Oh well, I’ll just ask the security guard for help getting downstairs later. Thinking this, Chu Fan left the meeting room with a cheerful, sunny expression.
