How to Conquer the Tsundere Second Female Lead (GL) - Chapter 4
The news of Chu Fan going to see He Yujuan yesterday was quickly spread by those who saw it. The relationship between the three was prime gossip material in other people’s eyes. As Chu Fan followed Ye Minyi into the company, she immediately felt multiple gazes, making her feel quite awkward. Ye Minyi, however, was oblivious. He even led her into the General Manager’s office, clearly intending for her to relax and “slack off” while getting paid.
Although Chu Fan was a workaholic in her previous life, she found it quite satisfying to get paid to take it easy now. Yet, after a short while, she grew restless. She began to prepare tea for Ye Minyi and started to pull back the floor-to-ceiling curtains to let in some air.
“Fanfan, you don’t need to do any of that. Just relax here,” Ye Minyi said with a smile, looking at the steaming tea.
“No, I can’t. This is my job. I’m getting paid, so I must…” Chu Fan insisted self-righteously while pulling back the curtain. She suddenly spotted He Yujuan looking right in their direction from the building across the street. Their eyes met unexpectedly, making her pause for a few seconds before she managed to finish her sentence, “…work properly.”
By convention, when two large companies renovate their buildings like this, they should install anti-peeping film on the glass. So why could she see clearly what was happening on the opposite side?
Oh, right. The world she was in was rather fantastical. When she wrote the story, she specified that the two companies were very close and that the General Manager’s offices were on the same floor, so one could see the other by looking out. She originally wrote it so He Yujuan could watch her and Ye Minyi show affection in the office, but this was good too. Seeing a beautiful girl first thing in the morning felt great. Thinking this, she smiled at He Yujuan.
“Very dedicated. Thank you, the tea is very good.” Ye Minyi had his back to the window, so he didn’t know what was happening. He took another sip of hot tea, a smile on his face.
“You’re too kind, Manager Ye. I’m your secretary, this is all part of my duties.” Chu Fan was unconcerned, staring directly at He Yujuan across the street until He Yujuan angrily pulled her office curtains shut. Only then did Chu Fan turn back, laughing softly, only to notice Ye Minyi’s expression was a little strange.
What’s wrong? Chu Fan felt vaguely guilty. She admitted she was deliberately distancing herself from Ye Minyi, but maybe her shift over the past two days was too obvious and had upset him?
Ye Minyi pursed his lips, tightening his grip on the teacup. He looked up, a little sadly. “Fanfan, are you angry? My mother was truly excessive, but I will figure out a way to make them accept you quickly. Could you wait for me a little longer? I truly want to be with you.”
Chu Fan didn’t know how to respond. Ye Minyi stood up and walked over, grabbing her shoulders. “I will also talk to He Yujuan’s brother about her. I won’t let her bully you again. Fanfan, once everyone accepts us, be with me.”
Sigh. Chu Fan sighed inwardly. Listen to that line. “Wait until everyone accepts us before we can be together.” Even though she never intended to date Ye Minyi, Chu Fan felt her male protagonist had potential to be a jerk, with a dash of being a mama’s boy.
“I’m fine. I’ll go out to work now. Don’t you have a lot of documents to handle today? Go on.” She smiled slightly, gently removed his hands from her shoulders, said “Good luck,” and walked out of the manager’s office back to her desk.
Phew, I’m a bit mentally exhausted. Chu Fan took out her phone and saw that He Yujuan had sent her a WeChat message six minutes ago.
The first message: “Are you sick?” The second: “Smiling like an absolute jerk. Are you showing off to me again?”
Chu Fan burst out laughing, covering her mouth self-consciously and lowering her head when her colleagues looked her way. Why is He Yujuan so adorable?
She almost wanted to run over to the He Group right now to see that beautiful girl’s exasperated, cute expression in person.
“I heard she went to see He Yujuan yesterday. I don’t know how she dared to compete with the young miss when she has no status.”
“But the manager just likes her, and I don’t know what kind of spell she cast on him. She looks pretty average. But the Ye family will definitely never allow her to enter their home.”
“So, what did she go to He Yujuan for? To issue a challenge?”
…The surrounding “whispering” reached her ears word for word. Chu Fan rolled her eyes at the computer. Rumors are truly terrifying. Issue a challenge? Do they think we’re in some “Battlefield of the Heart”? Besides, she didn’t want to compete with He Yujuan, nor did she want to enter the Ye family home. If anything, Ye Minyi was her love rival.
Almost all her colleagues disliked her. They were all amiable and friendly at first, but once they knew Ye Minyi was pursuing her, they changed, starting to look down on her—a classic case of sour grapes.
Ignoring the gossip, Chu Fan curled her lips and replied to He Yujuan: “Not showing off, just saying hello. But I still have a bit of a headache; I worked too much overtime last week.”
He Yujuan replied quickly with just four words: “I don’t care.”
Cute, extremely cute. Chu Fan’s mood improved considerably, and she felt energized for work. She started looking at the bidding website for land transaction announcements. This was one of her duties: reporting suitable bidding projects to Ye Minyi so the company could prepare documents and place a bid.
Yiye Group and He Group were both in the same type of real estate land development business. Usually, when there was a good project, the two companies would bid together, making them strategic partners. Now that the real estate industry was slowly becoming saturated, joining forces increased their chances of winning a bid, which was why He Yujuan was so convinced that she was the only one who could marry into the Ye family.
However, some bids were unsuitable, with poor land locations. Three or four bidding announcements a week was already considered good. After a whole morning, Chu Fan’s eyes were strained, and she had only selected two, which she sent to Ye Minyi.
Ye Minyi replied with “Thank you for your hard work” and nothing else. But during her lunch break, as she was dozing at her desk, she vaguely saw someone place a bag on her desk, then gently touch her head. She knew immediately it was Ye Minyi.
She didn’t look up; she was still sleepy, so she continued sleeping. When she woke up, there were ten minutes left before work resumed. She comfortably began to eat the afternoon tea Ye Minyi had prepared for her—might as well enjoy free food.
The cake was actually quite delicious. Ye Minyi had bought a blueberry tart, which was sweet and sour and very appetizing. Maybe He Yujuan would like it too. Thinking this, she looked at the shop name on the packaging, opened her phone, and prepared to place an order to send to He Yujuan. Then she saw a message Ye Minyi had sent her half an hour ago: “Fanfan, I’m going to the bidding company this afternoon. I bought you cake. Eat it when you wake up. If you’re tired this afternoon, you can rest in my office [cute emoji].”
She replied: “Thank you, but please don’t buy it next time. It looks bad for others to see.”
After replying, she finished the last bite and quickly placed an order. She planned to have it delivered, take it upstairs, tidy Ye Minyi’s office, and then sneak out to slack off. It was Chu Fan’s work ethic that she had to do some work before she could guilt-free relax. Whether the work was simple or complicated was another matter.
The delivery arrived quickly. Chu Fan took it upstairs and, feeling slightly guilty, went into the General Manager’s office to tidy up. Before long, she saw He Yujuan reappear in the office across the way. Perfect! She could show the cake bag to He Yujuan, tell her she would be over soon, and let the tsundere woman prepare herself mentally.
He Yujuan, upon seeing her, looked ready to turn and leave again. Chu Fan urgently waved and pointed outside the office door, signaling for her to wait. Seeing He Yujuan freeze, Chu Fan quickly brought the takeout bag into the office, held it up, pointed to it, and then pointed to He Yujuan.
He Yujuan was bewildered. She had just intended to sneak into her office to glance at Brother Minyi, only to run into that “green tea jerk” Chu Fan again. That person seemed to be acting like they were best sisters recently, which exasperated her. Now she was holding up a takeout bag and pointing at her. What did that mean? Was she showing off again? But Chu Fan had changed a lot recently, and it didn’t seem like showing off. Did she want to feed her again?
He Yujuan pointed at herself in suspicion and saw Chu Fan nodding frantically across the way. Her feelings were complicated. She immediately made an “X” sign with her hands, then turned and walked out of the office without looking back, leaving Chu Fan to her fate.
Chu Fan was not deterred by He Yujuan’s rejection. Her smile grew wider. She grabbed the takeout bag and rushed out of Yiye Group, striding confidently into the He Group. However, she couldn’t get in, and He Yujuan hadn’t come down to meet her, so she had to leave the bag at the front desk and ask the receptionist to send it up to He Yujuan, before returning to the Yiye Group.
He Yujuan was extremely annoyed when she received the call transferred by the company. She couldn’t understand Chu Fan’s strategy. She didn’t get why this originally meek woman, who barely spoke to her and never fought back against her mockery, was suddenly showing her such excessive kindness. Was she seriously trying to flatter her and gain her acceptance? It felt completely random.
What if I don’t accept? Will Chu Fan keep this up? Thinking this, He Yujuan pursed her lips, went downstairs to retrieve the takeout Chu Fan had sent, and then messaged Chu Fan to go to Ye Minyi’s office.
“Go to Brother Minyi’s office.” Upon receiving this message from He Yujuan, Chu Fan immediately stood up and ran into Ye Minyi’s office.
Is He Yujuan going to thank her through the window? Chu Fan was delighted. As soon as she entered the office, she saw He Yujuan standing by the window, holding the very takeout bag that had been in Chu Fan’s hand a while ago, smiling gently.
Gentle? Chu Fan felt that things might not be that simple. She watched as He Yujuan mimicked her gesture, pointing to the takeout bag. The next second, she turned and bent down to grab something—the office trash can, as the answer quickly revealed.
Then, He Yujuan swiftly tossed the takeout bag into the trash can, shrugged, clapped her hands, grinned at Chu Fan, and walked out of the office, never looking back.
Ha, this woman really is… Chu Fan raised her eyebrows, placed her hands on her hips, and laughed out loud. That was so typical of He Yujuan’s style. Chu Fan returned to her desk, still smiling.
She wasn’t angry, of course. She was only distracted because when He Yujuan bent over, the casual flash of her fair waist had momentarily captivated her eyes.
