I Became the White Moonlight’s Ex-Wife (GL) - Chapter 1
“Ding, ding, ding—”
Accompanied by a steady vibration, the phone by the pillow suddenly rang. The hurried sound broke the silence in the bedroom.
The lump under the thin blanket shifted slightly, and a slender hand struggled to reach out toward the pillow, fumbling to pick up the phone.
Wen Su sleepily pulled her eyelids open. Without even checking the caller ID, she swiped to answer and put the phone to her ear, her voice terribly hoarse, “…Hello?”
“—My dear little lady, you finally picked up! Do you remember? You have an audition for Chronicles of Yunling at two this afternoon! It’s almost one o’clock already! Can you please take this a little more seriously?! I’m coming to pick you up right now!”
The rapid-fire words from the other end of the line jolted her awake. The person on the phone hung up before she could even fully process what they said.
She stared blankly at the phone. It was as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over her head, instantly sobering her up—
This wasn’t her phone.
Nervously, she looked around the room, her heart tightening—
This wasn’t her bedroom.
She distinctly remembered tidying up her dorm room last night, getting ready to welcome new students the next day. How had she ended up in this strange bedroom?
This thought was like a key. In an instant, a flood of unfamiliar memories rushed into her mind. As the memories played out like a film reel, Wen Su’s expression grew more and more peculiar, even one of shocked disbelief.
She had transmigrated. She was now a minor female character with the same name as her in a melodramatic yuri novel she had read just a few days ago.
The novel was titled Kiss You Under the Starlight. It told the story of Shen Manhui, a queen of idol dramas, who got into a car accident after her lover’s betrayal. When she woke up, she found herself back seven years in the past. Remembering everything that had happened, Shen Manhui decided to kick out the cheating woman and pursue the “white moonlight” she had missed—the CEO of Fuyue Jewelry, Chu Jingshu—ultimately achieving success in both love and career.
The original character was Chu Jingshu’s wife. The two had entered into a marriage of convenience for certain reasons. After nearly three years, their relationship was barely better than that of strangers.
A while ago, the original owner had proposed a divorce to Chu Jingshu to pursue Shen Manhui. If it weren’t for her parents’ plane crash, which forced Chu Jingshu to suddenly take over the company and need the help of the original character’s family, the two would have already finalized their divorce.
According to the plot of the novel, the original character would relentlessly pester Shen Manhui and make things even harder for Chu Jingshu when she was in a difficult position. She would become a cannon fodder character in the novel and would ultimately end up disgraced.
However, the original character’s current situation was already quite close to being disgraced.
To get closer to Shen Manhui, the original character used the startup funds and connections her mother gave her to enter the entertainment industry, investing in films she would star in. She spent a lot of money, gaining fame, but it was all negative. The ones hating her weren’t the media, but the audience. She had ruined several good IPs with her expressionless face, dominating the screen for over a year, to the point that viewers didn’t even want to turn on their TVs.
A few days ago, the director of Chronicles of Yunling, an adaptation of a famous IP, began casting. The female lead was already set to be Shen Manhui. The original character naturally wouldn’t miss the opportunity to spend time with the person she admired, so she immediately told her manager she wanted to be in the show.
But the show was produced by Zhaoyang, a pillar of the industry that did not tolerate people using money to get roles. It was only after a lot of convincing from her manager, Sister Jing, that the original character was able to get an audition.
And today was the day of the audition.
After sorting through her memories, Wen Su pinched the space between her eyebrows.
She didn’t understand how she had ended up in this world. She was a top graduate of the acting department at a prestigious film academy. After graduating, she went abroad to pursue a master’s degree in acting. After returning to China, she was invited by her alma mater to become an acting professor. Today was supposed to be her first day on the job, but she hadn’t expected something like this to happen.
She threw off the blanket and got out of bed barefoot. Her feet sank into the soft, comfortable gray carpet, giving her a sense of reality.
She had really become another person.
Following her memories, Wen Su found the bathroom to the left of the bedroom. She stood in front of the sink, looking at the short-haired beauty in the mirror.
It was an extremely beautiful face, a top-tier one even in the entertainment industry filled with beautiful people.
Her facial features were flawless and exquisite. When she wasn’t smiling, she had a kind of world-weary look, and her eyes seemed a little cold, vaguely hinting at a sharp edge. But when she smiled, she was quiet and gentle, a beauty beyond compare.
Without a doubt, this was a stunning and unique beauty. This face was born for the screen; it would be a shame not to make movies.
She turned on the faucet, cupped some water in her hands, and patted it on her face. The cool water instantly made her alert and calm.
Regardless of whether she could go back in the future, she had to make a plan.
The divorce had to happen, even though Chu Jingshu was very much her type.
Thinking of the sexy, slender, and refined beauty from her memories, Wen Su was a little dumbfounded. She didn’t understand what the original owner was thinking—to not like such a charming and beautiful woman and instead fall in love at first sight with the plain and simple Shen Manhui.
Could that be true love?
Ahem—
Wen Su shook her head to get rid of the messy thoughts. She didn’t want to get involved in the tangled mess between Shen Manhui and Chu Jingshu. It was better to get a divorce as soon as possible.
As for work, she was professionally trained and had even been offered a teaching position, so she really liked the acting profession.
Thinking about this, Wen Su’s spirits lifted slightly.
When she saw the walk-in closet that was as big as her entire apartment, even Wen Su, who came from a wealthy family, couldn’t help but gasp. Many of the clothes still had their tags on and were all new seasonal items from luxury brands.
She quickly composed herself, changed into her clothes, and prepared to go downstairs for breakfast.
Her manager, Sister Jing, would be picking her up soon for the Chronicles of Yunling audition, so she had to hurry.
It was already past noon. Chu Jingshu was probably having lunch at the company, and there should only be her and Auntie Zhang, the cook, in the villa.
Just as she was thinking this, Wen Su saw a tall, slender figure standing by the door as she walked down the stairs.
The great beauty she had just been thinking about heard the movement on the stairs. Her beautifully curved chin lifted slightly, and she looked up at Wen Su. At that moment of eye contact, Wen Su felt her heart jump—
Chu Jingshu was truly a stunningly beautiful woman.
“Good afternoon,” Chu Jingshu greeted her with a shallow smile. Her graceful and gentle voice almost made Wen Su melt.
Wen Su imitated the original character’s personality and said, “Mm,” with a nonchalant glance at Chu Jingshu. Only then did she notice there was a smaller person standing behind her.
It was Chu Jingshu’s sister, Chu Jingtong, who was in seventh grade. The girl was very attached to Chu Jingshu and quite hostile towards the original character. Especially after their parents’ deaths, Chu Jingtong wanted to become Chu Jingshu’s shadow. However, her school was far from the villa, so Chu Jingshu had bought an apartment near the school, where she would occasionally stay with her sister for a few days.
Wen Su’s gaze fell on Chu Jingtong. Chu Jingtong pouted in annoyance, tugged on her sister’s arm, and stubbornly looked away.
Chu Jingshu gripped her sister’s hand reassuringly and smiled softly at Wen Su. “Tongtong is on summer vacation now. I’d like to have her stay here. Is that okay?”
“Whatever you want,” Wen Su said coolly, calmly averting her gaze. This was how they had always interacted, like strangers who didn’t bother each other.
Chu Jingshu’s eyes smiled gently, and she thanked Wen Su.
Wen Su almost said, “You’re welcome,” but stopped herself. She walked down the stairs toward the dining table. Auntie Zhang, who was busy in the kitchen, saw her and brought out lunch.
From behind her, Chu Jingshu raised her voice slightly and said, “Mom wants us to go over for dinner tonight. I’ll be back as early as I can, and we can go together.”
The “Mom” she referred to was naturally Wen Su’s mother, the current head of the Wen family, Wen Ruxian.
This was indeed something that was supposed to happen, and the original character had planned to tell her parents about the divorce tonight.
Wen Su paused. “I know.”
Looking at Wen Su’s retreating figure heading toward the dining room, Chu Jingshu’s smile faded slightly. Her calm eyes held a hint of unresolved sadness.
“Sister?” Chu Jingtong shook her arm, looking at her in confusion.
Chu Jingshu quickly smiled tenderly and affectionately ruffled her sister’s short hair. “Go inside. Make sure you study hard and don’t play on your phone.”
“I won’t!” Chu Jingtong pouted, nuzzled against Chu Jingshu’s chest, and then reluctantly let go. “You go to work now, and be careful on your way!”
Chu Jingshu smiled and said, “Okay.” She glanced at Wen Su, who was eating breakfast, and her rosy lips pursed slightly. After a moment of hesitation, she turned and left.
Without bothering to talk to Wen Su, Chu Jingtong, with her backpack on, quickly went upstairs. The sound of her brisk footsteps faded until they were inaudible, and Wen Su never said a word to her.
Sitting in the company’s chauffeured van, Wen Su was looking at character analyses for Chronicles of Yunling and the audition material her team had sent her. Chronicles of Yunling was a well-known IP, and the original character hadn’t read the novel. Since she had to rush to the audition, she could only search online for long-form character analyses.
It was a shortcut, as Wen Su herself preferred not to go into battle unprepared. But the audition was too sudden, so she had no choice but to use this method and try her best to grasp a few key traits of the character to build her performance, even without having read the original work.
The original character was so ignorant that she tried to get a part in a show without having read the source material. Sister Jing had managed to secure her an audition for the role of Princess Anning, a major villain who had the most scenes with Shen Manhui. This princess was deeply in love with her childhood friend, the male lead Qi Xiaonian. She constantly caused trouble for the female lead, Yunling, and ultimately faced the consequences, becoming completely corrupted. Her attempts to frame Yunling failed and brought trouble to her own family, leading her to eventually hang herself.
Wen Su recalled that the original character was not meant to get a significant role like Princess Anning, but just a minor, guest role.
Regardless of what the original story said, she would take every audition and every role seriously. She would do her best to get the part.
Noticing that Wen Su was still looking at her phone through the rearview mirror, Sister Jing felt she had to ask, “How is your preparation going?”
Wen Su, who was focused on the character analysis, didn’t hear her. Sister Jing raised her voice and asked again.
“Hm?” Wen Su came to. She frowned slightly. “I’m reading it now.”
Sister Jing: …
My dear lady, are you kidding me? The audition is almost here, and you’re just starting to read? Isn’t that a bit too late?
