I Became the White Moonlight’s Ex-Wife (GL) - Chapter 10
The Launch Ceremony of Chronicles of Yunling
The ceremony was especially formal. The altar was filled with offerings. After burning incense, the producer and director announced to the reporters that filming for Chronicles of Yunling had officially begun.
Wen Su had attended launch ceremonies before, but she was a newcomer then, and reporters didn’t pay attention to her. But today was different. The number of reporters surrounding her was almost as many as those surrounding Shen Manhui.
“Why did you choose to star in this show?”
“Miss Wen Su, what are your criteria for choosing a role?”
“Do you think you can handle two roles?”
“Excuse me…”
The barrage of questions made Wen Su’s head spin. She used to be envious of famous actors being surrounded by reporters, but now that it was her turn, she found it incredibly annoying.
After all the commotion, the crew finally started filming.
The scenes weren’t filmed in the order of the story. They were broken down based on the actors’ schedules and budget.
Wen Su’s schedule was tight, so her scenes would be filmed earlier.
Everyone who had been wondering how Wen Su passed the audition was surprised after seeing her first scene.
The scene was simple. Yunling was invited by Qi Yijia, Qi Xiao’s sister, to a flower viewing. There, she met Princess Anning, who was also there to admire the flowers.
Princess Anning was as smart as Qi Yijia had said, and every move she made showed the graceful demeanor of royalty.
Wen Su’s performance was flawless. Even a newcomer could be pulled into the scene by her acting. Although she was prepared, Shen Manhui was still stunned when she saw Wen Su’s performance.
Because of Shen Manhui’s reaction, a scene that could have been done in one take ended up being a reshoot.
Su Qiao didn’t get angry. He had also been surprised by Wen Su’s audition. But after this, he expected them to act like professional actors.
Shen Manhui was indeed one of the best young actresses. Her acting was solid, and there were basically no issues. If Wen Su hadn’t been in the show, Shen Manhui could have used the right makeup and her acting skills to pull off the “great beauty” persona.
Unfortunately, she ran into Wen Su.
Wen Su’s performance as Princess Anning was a pleasant surprise for the other actors but also put a lot of pressure on them. Everyone put their all into studying their roles and the script. Because of this, filming efficiency increased, and the usually strict and bad-tempered Su Qiao even turned a blind eye to Wen Su playing on her phone during breaks.
This lasted until the first appearance of the young lord, played by Wen Su.
Yunling met the young lord at a restaurant while he was teaching a bully a lesson. She noticed that he looked exactly like Princess Anning. Her direct gaze caught the young lord’s attention, and the two of them became acquainted.
Playing two roles was a big challenge for Wen Su, but it was also a rare opportunity.
“You have a lot of nerve,” Wen Su said, her head tilted slightly. She looked at the men on the ground with disdain and disgust. “Even if Wang Qin came, he’d have to act like a gentleman in front of me. Who are you mongrels to bark here?”
Shen Manhui, who was supposed to walk into the scene, was stunned. Wen Su’s voice was completely different from when she played Princess Anning. It was a man’s voice. Her pauses and tone were in line with the young lord’s personality, and her movements were full of heroic spirit.
She didn’t need a voice actor; she could do it herself?
Just like that, Su Qiao yelled “cut.”
Wen Su held her expression for two seconds before returning to her usual blank face on the third.
Su Qiao beckoned to her. “Manhui, why are you spacing out? Let’s do it again.”
“Chronicles of Yunling, Scene 17, Take 7, Take 2.”
“Clap—”
After half a month of filming, Wen Su had barely made any mistakes, becoming the actress with the least number of reshoots among the young cast. Some of the young girls joked and called her “One-Take Wen.” Wen Su just smiled and didn’t get angry.
Because Wen Su’s performance was so outstanding, Shen Manhui felt a great deal of pressure. She could have relied on the acting experience she had accumulated from her previous life to improve her performance, but that was when she was acting opposite Zhang Sui as Princess Anning and Li Boqing as the young lord. Wen Su’s style was completely different, and she was clearly much better.
Su Qiao could become a top director because of his keen eye. Choosing Wen Su and Shen Manhui was the right decision. Wen Su’s amazing performance even made Shen Manhui perform better than her usual.
Because of this, Su Qiao’s expectations of Shen Manhui were higher.
Every time it was Wen Su and Shen Manhui’s scene, Shen Manhui would mess up. The most she messed up was 27 times. Wen Su, with her excellent professionalism, endured it, while Shen Manhui’s face turned pale.
This was probably the most reshoots she had in her acting career. If she hadn’t already gotten over her need to win, Wen Su would have become a huge mental obstacle in her career.
The other actors in the crew didn’t look down on Shen Manhui because of this. On the contrary, they admired her. If it were anyone else, their mentality would have collapsed by now, but she just got better with each failure.
After this period of time, Wen Su also knew what level of acting Shen Manhui had. As a non-professional actress who wasn’t born with a talent for acting, Shen Manhui’s solid acting skills were all thanks to her hard work and determination. Even Wen Su, who was biased against her because of her role as a villain in the novel, admired her.
Every day, Shen Manhui was the first to arrive on set. Even after her scenes were done, she would stay until the crew wrapped up for the day. In comparison, Wen Su seemed unprofessional. She would show up for her scenes and leave once they were done, not staying a second longer. While others were studying their scripts, she was playing on her phone.
But since Wen Su always nailed it in one take, no one could criticize her for not studying her script or being unprofessional. As an actor, being good at your job is the most professional thing you can do.
Looking at Shen Manhui acting opposite Zhao He’an, Wen Su’s mind became active.
She couldn’t have Chu Jingshu, but she could definitely fight for the title of Best Actress. After all, between love and career, she had to choose one.
…
“Cut!”
Su Qiao looked at the monitor and glanced at his assistant director. The assistant director asked the sound mixer and others if there were any issues. After confirming everything was good, Su Qiao said, “That’s a wrap.”
Today’s shoot had a lot of action scenes. Wen Su was completely exhausted. Even Zhao He’an looked tired, let alone her.
Her assistant, Xiao Sheng, rushed over to give her water and wipe her sweat. “Sister Jing just called. She said Lustre wants you to be on the cover of their October issue.”
Wen Su pushed the water bottle away, sat on a chair, and closed her eyes to rest. Her heart skipped a beat when she heard that.
If she remembered correctly, Shen Manhui was on the cover of Lustre’s September issue. They were asking her for the October issue. What was that about?
Wen Su scoffed. “No. I want the best.”
She only wanted to act. Everything else was for better roles and resources. Now that she had the Wen family as her backing, she could get good resources. Why should she settle for less?
Her scenes for the day were done, so Wen Su didn’t linger on set. Instead of staying there, she wanted to get some rest and think about tomorrow’s scenes.
That night, Wen Su, who had just showered, was sitting on her bed in her robe, texting Chu Jingshu.
Chu Jingshu said she wanted to visit the set tomorrow. After thinking it over, she agreed.
Just as she put her phone away and was about to read her script, she heard a sound at the door—
“Knock, knock—”
She thought it was her assistant bringing her a late-night snack, so she got up and opened the door. But when she saw who was there, she was surprised.
It wasn’t the late-night snack she was hoping for; it was Shen Manhui.
Noticing the slightly damp ends of her hair and the pleasant smell of her body wash, Wen Su’s hand on the doorknob tightened.
What did Shen Manhui want at this hour?
Shen Manhui smiled faintly, her amber eyes shining like stars. “I’m worried I won’t do well in tomorrow’s scene. Can I borrow some of your time?”
Wen Su: …
Tomorrow’s scene was the young lord’s scene with Yunling, and it had a lot of action. If Shen Manhui kept messing up, she would suffer.
To save herself from getting too tired, Wen Su moved to the side with a blank face. Shen Manhui thanked her with a smile and walked into the room.
Noticing the wrinkled sheets on the bed, Shen Manhui didn’t say anything. She sat on the sofa and took out her well-worn script.
Wen Su sat across from Shen Manhui and looked through her script, feeling a bad premonition.
The scene was the young lord confessing his feelings to Yunling. The young lord was badly injured protecting Yunling, almost losing his life. He took the opportunity to confess to Yunling. Although Yunling was touched, she had already fallen for Qi Xiao and promised him a relationship in their next life.
In this moment, Wen Su wished her assistant, Xiao Sheng, would knock on the door with her late-night snack. Even if she didn’t have a snack, it would be fine. At least they wouldn’t be alone.
But things didn’t go as she wished. Assistant Xiao Sheng was nowhere to be found with her late-night snack.
Shen Manhui said, “It’s this crying scene. I’m worried I won’t be able to get into character.”
Wen Su frowned. With a cold face, she went straight into her lines. “I’ve never loved anyone in this life. You’re the first. This wound is worth it.”
Even though she had a blank expression, her voice was full of emotion. With just that one line, Shen Manhui was immediately moved, and her eyes turned red.
“Don’t say that, don’t say that…” Shen Manhui’s eyes reddened. “You’ll be okay. Doctor Zhang is on his way. You’ll be fine!”
“Silly girl, why are you crying?” Wen Su was still expressionless. “I’m not dead.”
Even though she was hearing a weak and doting tone, she was looking at a blank face. It was a testament to Shen Manhui’s professionalism that she was able to get into character. If it were a slightly less skilled actress, she wouldn’t have been able to get into character at all.
The crying scene wasn’t long. The two of them finished their lines quickly. Wen Su thought Shen Manhui did a great job. When she put on her costume tomorrow, and her expressions were on point, Shen Manhui would be even more into the role.
Shen Manhui took a deep breath, suppressing her emotions. She gave Wen Su a slight smile. “Thank you. Can we do it one more time?”
Wen Su cooperated and did the scene again.
After doing it three times in a row, Shen Manhui thanked her and was about to leave. When she opened the door, she ran into a panting Assistant Xiao Sheng.
Seeing the teary-eyed and sad Shen Manhui, Xiao Sheng almost thought she had knocked on the wrong door. When she saw Shen Manhui nod to her and walk past, she realized that Shen Manhui had come to her boss’s room.
But why was Shen Manhui crying?
Assistant Xiao Sheng looked at Wen Su in confusion. “Boss?” What did you do to Shen Manhui?
Seeing that she had not only come back late but also empty-handed, Wen Su wanted to roll her eyes at her. She said coldly, “I don’t know.”
Xiao Sheng: …
Xiao Sheng: You’re lying. If you don’t know, who does?
Author’s Note:
Chu Jingshu: Hmm? I’m coming to visit, and you show me a confession scene?
