I Became the White Moonlight’s Ex-Wife (GL) - Chapter 11
To make sure her scenes went smoothly today, Wen Su sent her assistant away and went straight to bed, sleeping until she woke up naturally.
When she arrived on set in the morning, Wen Su was half an hour earlier than usual, but the other actors were already getting their makeup done.
The filming schedule was a bit heavy today, so she left picking up Chu Jingshu to Xiao Sheng. Even though she wouldn’t get to watch her boss film, seeing her boss’s beautiful wife was just as good.
The staff began to check the harnesses. Soon, she would have to jump off a horse, grab Shen Manhui, and roll down. Normally, a stunt double would be used for this kind of scene, but Wen Su didn’t think it was necessary. They were just going to roll on the grass, and the staff had already removed all the small rocks to make sure no one would get cut.
Everything was ready. The clapperboard operator stepped in front of the camera and clapped the slate.
“Chronicles of Yunling, Scene 47, Take 7, First Take.”
“Clap!”
…
Lying weakly in Shen Manhui’s arms, Wen Su’s pale face managed a smile from blood loss. She gazed at Shen Manhui with a burning look and said, “When we return to the capital, I will go to the Yun family and propose to you.”
These words were deeply etched into Shen Manhui’s heart. She could no longer hold back her tears. “…Don’t say that. I’m not worthy!”
Seeing the light in Shen Manhui’s eyes, Wen Su felt something was off. But the director hadn’t yelled “cut,” so she stayed in character, blinking with great effort. She used all her remaining strength to say, “If I say you’re worthy, then you are worthy.”
With that, she passed out.
She heard Shen Manhui call her name in a panic, gently patting her face. “Wake up, open your eyes. I promise you, I’ll promise you anything. Just wake up!”
“?”
Those weren’t the right lines.
Wen Su was hesitating whether she should open her eyes when she felt a few warm drops land on her face.
“Cut!”
Finally, a cut!
Wen Su breathed a sigh of relief. After two seconds, she opened her eyes and saw Shen Manhui looking at her with a surprised and happy expression. “You’re awake!”
Wen Su: …
She didn’t know if she should be impressed by how much Shen Manhui was into the role or be worried that she had changed the lines.
If the main point of the lines was the same, Wen Su wouldn’t be worried, but this was clearly wrong.
Wen Su’s expression returned to her usual blank face. She got up from Shen Manhui’s arms and sat on the ground without moving, to avoid having to get back into the same position again.
Shen Manhui’s face turned pale. “I’m sorry, I—”
“Shen Manhui, come here for a second.” Su Qiao looked at Shen Manhui with a complicated expression and waved her over.
Shen Manhui glanced at Wen Su, who was now sitting up, and after a moment’s hesitation, she didn’t say anything and walked toward Su Qiao.
The makeup artist saw the tears on Wen Su’s face and, with the help of a young assistant, carefully began to touch up her makeup.
“Boss!”
Xiao Sheng, who had no idea what had just happened, excitedly came over and said, “I picked up the boss’s wife!”
What kind of name was that?
If she didn’t remember that there were a lot of people around, Wen Su would have hit her on the head.
Suppressing her urge to act, she followed Xiao Sheng’s gaze and saw Chu Jingshu, wearing a baseball cap, looking at her. She had light makeup on and looked stunningly beautiful.
She was about to greet Chu Jingshu, but a gentle brush on her cheek made her remember that she was still getting her makeup done. She gave a very faint smile.
Standing behind the staff, Chu Jingshu was stunned. The awkwardness she had felt dissipated quite a bit.
After Wen Su’s makeup was touched up, Su Qiao was still talking to Shen Manhui. The assistant director and screenwriter Yuan Xi were also there. It seemed they were explaining the subtext of the scene to Shen Manhui.
It would probably be a while before they could start filming again. Wen Su waved at Chu Jingshu. The others subconsciously looked in that direction and realized that a beautiful woman had appeared. On closer inspection—
It was Wen Su’s wife, Chu Jingshu.
So, she was here to visit the set. It hadn’t been that long since filming started, and Chu Jingshu was already here. It seemed the rumors online about their happy marriage were true.
Chu Jingshu easily weaved through the staff and walked to her side.
Today, Chu Jingshu wasn’t wearing her usual formal work suit but a simple white T-shirt and jeans, which made her look tall and slender. She looked less mature and more lively and youthful.
“Sit,” Wen Su said with a slight lift of her chin. “They’re going to be a while.”
Chu Jingshu looked at the actress next to the director, her expression subtly changing. “Were you just lying in her arms?”
Before Wen Su could figure out why she was asking, Chu Jingshu added, “I couldn’t tell that was your voice.”
“It’s just a voice impression. It’s not hard,” Wen Su explained.
Chu Jingshu nodded as if she understood. She carefully examined the makeup on Wen Su’s face. As if she had seen something new and exciting, she smiled sweetly. “You look just like your brother right now.”
Wen Su also found this funny. She gave Chu Jingshu a subtle look. The latter looked completely innocent. Wen Su raised an eyebrow and, in her made-up voice, said, “Call me brother.”
“!”
Startled by Wen Su’s sudden display, Chu Jingshu was a step behind in realizing what she had said. She was stunned for two more seconds. Wen Su could joke?
Chu Jingshu came to her senses and said in an intimate tone, “Stop it. You’re two months younger than me.”
Wen Su’s birthday was March 17th. Chu Jingshu was exactly two months older, born on January 17th.
Wen Su looked away indifferently. Chu Jingshu, however, smiled and leaned in, whispering in her ear, “If you take a picture with me, I’ll call you brother.”
She could have just asked for a photo. Why was she being so childish?
Perhaps Wen Su’s gaze was too direct. Chu Jingshu awkwardly sat up straight. She was about to change the subject when she saw Wen Su reach out her hand. She was stunned.
Seeing that Chu Jingshu didn’t react, Wen Su reminded her with a hint of helplessness, “Your phone.”
“Pfft…” Chu Jingshu couldn’t hold back her laugh. She took out her phone and opened the camera. She leaned toward Wen Su, but she didn’t touch her.
Wen Su naturally put her arm on Chu Jingshu’s shoulder, looking calmly at the camera. Chu Jingshu smiled gently and pressed the capture button several times.
Chu Jingshu was about to sit back and check the photos when she heard the director say, “Okay, everyone get back to your positions. Let’s do it again.” She had to get up and walk out of the filming area, but her arm was grabbed.
Chu Jingshu turned to look at Wen Su, who said with a blank face, “Call me brother.”
For a moment, Chu Jingshu didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Was she really that persistent?
Chu Jingshu made a face at her and laughed. “No way. A little girl like you wants me to call you brother? In your dreams.”
Wen Su: ???
She was stunned for just a second, and Chu Jingshu had already pulled her hand away and ran out of the filming area.
Tsk, this good-looking person can be a liar, too.
Wen Su saw Chu Jingshu, who was now standing with Xiao Sheng behind the crew, wink at her mischievately. She found it a little funny.
Shen Manhui had already come to her position. Wen Su focused her mind and got into character, lying in Shen Manhui’s arms.
Looking at Wen Su in her arms and remembering the scene she saw earlier, a hint of darkness flashed in Shen Manhui’s eyes.
But she quickly suppressed it as soon as the director gave his cue.
“Chronicles of Yunling, Scene 47, Take 7, Second Take!”
“Clap—”
…
Shen Manhui was clearly not in a good state. She messed up this scene five or six times. The scene wasn’t that difficult, but Su Qiao didn’t know what was wrong with Shen Manhui that she kept making mistakes.
“I’m sorry,” Shen Manhui said, blaming herself.
Luckily, this wasn’t like the previous scenes. All she had to do was lie in Shen Manhui’s arms and say the same lines over and over again before fainting. Besides straining her voice, there was no other issue.
But it was different for Shen Manhui. Wen Su wondered if Shen Manhui could even cry anymore. If they didn’t get it right soon, her eyes would swell so much that makeup couldn’t hide it.
Chu Jingshu watched this scene being filmed again and again. At first, she found it a little strange and awkward, but after four or five takes, all she felt was deep sympathy for Wen Su.
Who could endure this? All the reshoots were because of Shen Manhui. If she had run into a better actress, Wen Su wouldn’t have to repeat a scene six or seven times.
But why was Wen Su’s acting so… subpar before, but now she was so serious? She wasn’t even impatient about the repeated takes.
Chu Jingshu looked at the actress named Shen Manhui.
Wen Su’s first TV show was as a female lead. This was her first time playing a supporting role, and she was so patient with her co-star, re-filming a scene over and over again.
If she remembered correctly, there was news that Wen Su was going to star in the yuri show Sweet Lovers, and she had specially invited Shen Manhui, but was rejected. Everyone knew what happened afterward.
Sweet Lovers became the only show from Wen Su’s company that she didn’t star in. She even lowered her value to play a supporting role for Shen Manhui in Chronicles of Yunling.
Chu Jingshu’s face darkened. Could it be that Wen Su was in love with Shen Manhui?
With that thought, Chu Jingshu’s gaze on Shen Manhui became more scrutinizing.
She wasn’t particularly outstanding; she was just a girl with a pretty face. Her only redeeming quality was probably her beautiful eyes, and her acting wasn’t even that good, as she was constantly slowing Wen Su down.
Was this the kind of ordinary girl Wen Su liked?
Even Chu Jingshu herself didn’t realize that her assessment of Shen Manhui was much harsher than usual.
Wen Su had just taken a cup of water from Chu Jingshu and took a few sips to moisturize her throat when she followed Chu Jingshu’s gaze and saw Shen Manhui sitting on the grass not far away.
Tsk, she’s already interested?
Wen Su didn’t say anything to disturb her. She looked at Chu Jingshu with a hint of interest.
She really wanted to know how Chu Jingshu would fall for Shen Manhui. She was a sucker for pretty faces. Maybe Shen Manhui’s hard-working and down-to-earth personality would impress Chu Jingshu?
After all, Chu Jingshu was a person who valued inner beauty.
Chu Jingshu moved her gaze away and was met with Wen Su’s slightly intrigued look. The emotion quickly disappeared, making Chu Jingshu wonder if she had imagined it.
Wen Su casually handed the cup back to Chu Jingshu and bent down to look at the watch on Chu Jingshu’s wrist.
Well, let’s get this done. She was getting hungry.
Author’s Note:
Miss Shen is the female lead in the original novel, after all. A child who works hard can’t be too bad. Also, even if she wanted to be dramatic, she’d have to consider the Wen family’s background.
