I Became the White Moonlight’s Ex-Wife (GL) - Chapter 19
Wen Su observed the surroundings using the dim light and realized they were just near the villa area, which surprised her a little.
Xiao Zhang, the “lost” driver, remembered who paid his salary, so he could only internally fume while outwardly agreeing with Ms. Chu’s statement. He finally “found the road” and drove the car into the garage.
Wen Su got out of the car, stretched her limbs, and walked toward the main house. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Chu Jingshu’s left shoulder seemed stiff. It then occurred to her that when she woke up, she was resting on Chu Jingshu’s left shoulder.
She had fallen asleep not long after getting into the car and didn’t know how long she had been leaning on Chu Jingshu’s shoulder. It must have been uncomfortable for her.
Wen Su quietly said, “You could have woken me up.” As soon as she said it, Wen Su realized what had happened.
Xiao Zhang was always steady and had an excellent sense of direction; he remembered a route clearly after taking it once. He had driven this particular route to her parents’ house countless times. Even in the middle of the night, with streetlights illuminating the way, how could Xiao Zhang possibly get lost?
Chu Jingshu must have seen her sleeping soundly and asked Xiao Zhang to take a detour so she could rest a little longer.
Chu Jingshu smiled and shook her head. “You were sleeping so soundly, I couldn’t bear to wake you.”
Wen Su was about to retort when Chu Jingshu added, “Besides, that’s one of the few things I can do to help you.”
Wen Su felt a sense of helplessness upon hearing this. She looked at Chu Jingshu, her tone carrying a hint of resignation. “The one thing you should do for me is stop making me worry about you.”
Chu Jingshu was caught off guard, hit right in the heart. The thought of all the lies she had told filled her with both sweetness and guilt.
“I promise I won’t overexert myself,” Chu Jingshu dutifully raised her hand, a slight smile on her lips. “You don’t need to worry about me.”
Wen Su gazed deeply at her, making Chu Jingshu feel her cheeks burning and look down. Only then did Wen Su let out a soft sigh and head toward the main house.
Chu Jingshu didn’t have time to think further. That incredibly light sigh was swept away by the night wind, dissolving into the night sky.
The Costume Photoshoot for Killing Intent
Not long after the opening ceremony for Killing Intent, the production team released the costume photos online.
The casting for this drama was already very faithful to the original novel, and the costumes and styling were clearly well thought out. The release of the photos sparked heated discussion among netizens, with comments praising Wen Su making up about a third of them.
“Wen Su is A-list material! How can there be such an incredible, aloof mature woman? That military uniform is absolutely gorgeous, ahhh!”
“Ren Chengshuang and Ruan Ji are also in this? I’m watching this drama! PS: This is the first time I’ve appreciated Wen Su’s looks. I always thought her features were too sharp, but it was just the wrong roles before. Roles like a female officer or spy are tailor-made for her.”
“Those who say Wen Su’s features are sharp should check out her look as Princess Anning in Chronicles of Yunling. Wen Su’s features are highly malleable. You probably find her sharp because of the coldness in her eyes.”
“(Quietly mumbling) I was struck by Wen Su’s looks when I saw her as Princess Anning. I genuinely love this type. Her features are truly excellent. What an amazing match in beauty, Wen Su and CEO Chu!”
“Saved the picture. I’m setting it as my screensaver to worship every day!”
“OMG, Wen Su is full of dominance! In comparison, Brother Jian is just a pretty boy /crying /crying /”
“Isn’t Yan Hongxin just a pretty boy? If Xue Ruqiu hadn’t helped him several times, Yan Hongxin would have died ages ago. The character recreation is incredibly high. I hope the drama doesn’t disappoint me. I’m watching it!”
“This role is very suitable for Wen Su. Looking forward to her performance.”
“Wen Su’s script-choosing ability has improved a lot recently. If she keeps acting in roles like this, I’ll be a fan for life just for her looks.”
“Wen Su is in the two dramas I’m most looking forward to. Her look is stunning. I hope Wen Su can truly bring the character to life.”
“Her image and aura are identical to the original text. Excited for the drama!”
A Surprise Visit?
With all the excitement online, Chu Jingshu naturally didn’t miss it. After staring intently at Wen Su’s costume photo for a minute, she long-pressed the image and clicked Save.
She didn’t just save this photo; she also collected Wen Su’s costume photos from both roles in Chronicles of Yunling, and even Wen Su’s publicity photos from the past two years. However, while Wen Su in those older photos was beautiful, there was something missing compared to now.
Chu Jingshu concluded that the assembly-line makeup had probably made her features look ordinary, like mass-produced beautiful dolls—exquisite features but no soul.
Checking the time, her lunch break was about to end. Chu Jingshu exited Weibo and returned to her home screen, which prominently displayed a photo of Wen Su in makeup, napping on the bed—a picture she had secretly taken during a set visit.
Chu Jingshu put her phone away, ready to get back to work, when an idea suddenly struck her:
She could go visit the set this time, too.
The thought, once it surfaced, grew irresistible. Chu Jingshu suppressed her sudden excitement and focused seriously on her work.
I’ll finish this bidding plan first, and then I’ll figure out a reason to visit the set.
••••
Wen Su, busy with filming, was completely unaware of Chu Jingshu’s plans. Since the intense heat had passed and the weather cooled, the filming schedule for Killing Intent became heavier. Especially with occasional night shoots, she couldn’t go home and had checked into a hotel near the film studio early on.
Just a few days ago, Wen Su accidentally bruised her leg while filming a scene where she jumped out of a car. Fortunately, the doctor confirmed it was just a superficial injury. While painful, there were no other issues, but the blue and purple bruising looked particularly frightening.
Kong Yuxiang had considered letting her rest for a day. He disliked how celebrities falling down could trend and elicit sympathy from fans, but he also worried about a negative impact on the crew.
However, Wen Su wasn’t the type to be delicate. She rubbed her leg a few times and continued filming. After all, if she were that fragile, she wouldn’t have chosen to be an actress.
This incident caused several of the lead actors to slightly change their opinion of her.
Most notably, Deng Xueyi, the second female lead who was even more aloof than her, actually started greeting her.
Speaking of Deng Xueyi, her career had been lukewarm. When audiences thought of her, their first reaction was always “scandal-free,” “dedicated and not seeking hype,” and possessing an “elegant and pure aura.”
Only those who had worked with her knew that Ms. Deng was extremely arrogant. She disliked getting involved in cliques, preferred to be alone, and didn’t socialize with anyone.
When Wen Su first saw Deng Xueyi, she nearly thought she was looking at a second version of the original owner. However, Deng Xueyi was naturally softer in her features, and her gaze wasn’t as sharp as the original owner’s. Thus, Deng Xueyi was the complete opposite of the infamous original owner.
Initially, Wen Su admired her dedicated attitude and acting skills, but since Ms. Deng’s attitude towards her was worse than her attitude towards anyone else on set, Wen Su withdrew her admiration and focused on filming.
Later, Wen Su learned from Sister Jing why Deng Xueyi was so arrogant. Deng Xueyi’s father was Deng Yuandong, the chairman of Huaying Group, a heavyweight in the entertainment industry. Even Yueqi Media, which had broken ties with Wanyuan, had to obey his word.
Although she wasn’t an only child like Wen Su, Deng Xueyi was deeply loved at home. If she weren’t unwilling to rely on her father’s power, she wouldn’t be in the lukewarm state she was now.
Deng Xueyi despised spoiled rich kids who squandered their parents’ resources, and Wen Su was a prime example among them, so she looked down on Wen Su even more.
However, after working together for a while, Deng Xueyi found that Wen Su wasn’t as useless as netizens claimed. Aside from liking to scroll on her phone during breaks, Wen Su’s professionalism was impeccable. Furthermore, she had a good temper and high standards, responding to anyone who spoke to her.
This greatly changed Deng Xueyi’s impression of her, and her attitude softened considerably.
Even after learning Deng Xueyi’s family background, Wen Su didn’t feel the need to deliberately socialize with her, as her status as a Wen family daughter meant she didn’t need to fawn over anyone.
Thanks to Wen Ruxian’s commercial talent and shrewd vision in her youth, Wanyuan had become the largest comprehensive group in the country a long time ago. Its subsidiaries spanned various industries, all with immense influence. For example, the subsidiary that controlled the country’s largest cinema chain belonged to Wanyuan’s film and television division.
Although Wanyuan might not have as much say in the film and television industry as Huaying Group, Wen Su was by no means inferior to Deng Xueyi.
Recognizing this, Deng Xueyi seemed intent on befriending her, as they were both second-generation rich kids working hard in the entertainment industry.
Wen Su couldn’t recall Deng Xueyi in the original novel, so she spoke to her without many reservations. The two found their personalities compatible and quickly became good friends.
Consequently, the Killing Intent staff witnessed Deng Xueyi, who was known for her solitary nature, chatting happily with Wen Su. Although both maintained cold expressions, the harmonious atmosphere was undeniable.
Just as Wen Su finally made a friend unrelated to the plot, she received a call from Sister Jing. She had to attend a variety show with Shen Manhui and Zhao He’an to promote Yun Ling.
Yun Ling had been officially scheduled to air in early December on Strawberry TV and Leshu Network, and they now had to begin promotional activities for it.
Even though Wen Su disliked work unrelated to filming, she had to take leave from the set to participate, as promoting her work was part of her job.
Chu Jingshu, who had just managed to finish her work, hadn’t had a chance to call Wen Su about visiting the set when Wen Su returned home.
Chu Jingshu was just surprised when Wen Su told her that she had to go to Haichuan City the next morning for a variety show to promote Chronicles of Yunling with the male and female leads.
Hearing this news, alarm bells went off in Chu Jingshu’s mind:
Wen Su was going to meet Shen Manhui?!
The news caught Chu Jingshu completely off guard. She immediately started brainstorming how to prevent Wen Su and Shen Manhui from having any further interaction.
She couldn’t possibly stop them from being on the show together, so she had to intervene elsewhere.
After a moment of thought, Chu Jingshu flashed a bright, captivating smile and offered Wen Su a freshly fabricated excuse:
“What a coincidence! I have a business partner in Haichuan City. I was just about to go there tomorrow for a site visit. How about I come to your hotel afterward to find you?”
