I Became the White Moonlight’s Ex-Wife (GL) - Chapter 20
Early the next morning, Wen Su dragged her suitcase and set off for Haichuan City, accompanied only by her manager, Sister Jing, and her assistant, Xiao Sheng.
Chu Jingshu had said she was going to Haichuan for a site inspection, but she wasn’t on the same flight. If she were to change her flight last minute, she’d have to inform the other party to pick her up earlier. Therefore, Chu Jingshu would arrive two hours later than her.
Although Chu Jingshu had told many lies to get closer to her, Wen Su didn’t think she was lying this time—at least, not entirely.
Chu Jingshu probably did have a collaborator in Haichuan City. The timing of the inspection was likely adjusted by Chu Jingshu to coincide with her trip.
Wen Su’s guess was correct. Chu Jingshu’s statement was not entirely false. The company’s new channel expansion was nearing a partnership, with several collaborations lined up in major first-tier cities, and Haichuan was one of them. Following the original schedule, Chu Jingshu would have first gone to North Lin City and Jiangan City before moving on to Haichuan and Shenping City. The inspection was originally planned for next month, but since Chu Jingshu’s company held the lead position in the partnership, a sudden inspection wasn’t a major issue. To ensure a smooth collaboration, the partner company would definitely accommodate her warmly.
As soon as she boarded the plane, Wen Su intended to nap, but Sister Jing handed her the program script. “You can rest today. Shen Manhui is rushing for an announcement and won’t arrive until tomorrow.”
Since Wen Su’s significant shift in demeanor, Sister Jing couldn’t help but give her extra reminders. “Don’t wear a sour face during tomorrow’s recording. If you encounter a question you don’t want to answer, you can skip it. Shen Manhui will help smooth things over, but absolutely no sour face.”
Although the show would be edited in post-production, some videos inevitably leak out, and Sister Jing didn’t want Wen Su to get into any trouble at this stage.
Wen Su lazily flipped through the script and responded distractedly.
The program was a newly launched, slow-paced variety show called “Our TeTea Party,” hosted by the famous presenter Ming Fei and two regular guests. A gathering was held every Sunday, with an afternoon tea and an evening talk being the main segments.
During the afternoon tea, everyone would share work-related experiences, such as who wrote a new song or what happened on set, acting as a small climax.
The evening talk was the main focus, revolving around personal topics, sometimes even touching on their respective love lives. Of course, whether the stories were true was up to the viewer’s judgment, as the show was being broadcast on television.
The script outlined the general flow, but the specific content relied on the guests’ improvisation.
For example, Wen Su was required to share her experiences from the Chronicles of Yunling set during the afternoon tea. If she had little to say, Zhao He’an and Shen Manhui would take over and continue the discussion.
The evening talk would involve her sharing stories about her life with Chu Jingshu. Given Chu Jingshu’s considerable fan base, there was a significant public curiosity about their married life.
Wen Su only glanced at the script before putting it away. All in all, the show was just a few people sitting around chatting and laughing.
Wen Su arrived at the booked hotel around 11:30 AM. Feeling hungry, she immediately looked for a famous restaurant in Haichuan City. Sister Jing considered stopping her, but recalling how little trouble the little madam had caused her in the past few months, she decided to turn a blind eye to Wen Su’s actions.
After eating her fill, Wen Su returned to the hotel and immediately felt drowsy. She was about to take a nap when she received a call from Chu Jingshu, who said she had arrived at the East Road Airport in Haichuan City. Wen Su gave her the hotel address.
Chu Jingshu arrived at Wen Su’s hotel around 2:30 PM. Wen Su, who was taking her afternoon nap, was woken up by her call. She was still slightly drowsy but forced herself to wake up and go down to meet her.
As a high-profile couple, it would have been strange for them to book two rooms in the same hotel. Therefore, Chu Jingshu naturally checked into the suite Wen Su was staying in.
Wen Su’s suite was the highest standard the hotel offered, complete with a living room, kitchen, and other amenities, but it couldn’t hide the fact that there was only one bed.
Stuffing her suitcase into the closet, Chu Jingshu caught sight of the room’s sole bed, her earlobes flushing pink. She asked, feigning indifference, “When are you recording the show?”
Wen Su, still a bit groggy from waking up, replied, “Tomorrow morning. Why?”
“Nothing.” Chu Jingshu sighed softly. She had to go to the partner company to discuss the project shortly and couldn’t follow Wen Su to prevent her from meeting Shen Manhui. She quickly changed the subject and asked, “Are you planning to meet up for dinner tonight?”
She had initially thought Wen Su was recording the show today, but since it was tomorrow, the afternoon was free.
Wen Su was still wondering if “we” referred to the hosts of Our Tea Party or herself, Shen Manhui, and Zhao He’an. Then, she inadvertently noticed Chu Jingshu’s slightly nervous expression and “suddenly understood,” nodding her head.
Chu Jingshu’s eyes darkened instantly, but then she heard Wen Su say coolly, “No, they won’t arrive until tomorrow.”
Chu Jingshu’s heart soared, and a smile appeared on her face. “Then why did you come here today?”
Wen Su replied nonchalantly, “To be lazy.”
The words were spoken with such casual justification that Chu Jingshu almost thought she misheard. She couldn’t help but chuckle. She never knew Wen Su had this side to her.
She seemed a little… childish.
Six months ago, Chu Jingshu would never have associated the word “childish” with Wen Su, but now, she found Wen Su’s childish side even more… charming.
Chu Jingshu’s eyes held a smile. Just as she was about to speak, her phone rang. Chu Jingshu frowned slightly but took out her phone to answer the call.
It was the representative from the partner company for the collaboration. Chu Jingshu spoke politely for a few minutes, gave the hotel address, and then hung up.
Chu Jingshu looked at Wen Su, who was lounging on the sofa, and said, “The representative is coming to pick me up. I might be back quite late tonight.”
Wen Su nodded slightly in acknowledgment.
To be honest, if Chu Jingshu had simply rushed to Haichuan City just for her, Wen Su would have been very disappointed. Someone as excellent as Chu Jingshu shouldn’t have her mind completely consumed by romance. Wen Su herself believed in balancing love and work.
Although Chu Jingshu’s efforts to lie were endearing, Wen Su preferred her steady and decisive demeanor when she was working.
After seeing Chu Jingshu out, Wen Su found a few past episodes of Our Tea Party to watch. The general format hadn’t changed much. Only the guests were different each time, so the stories discussed and the atmosphere would vary, but the show essentially maintained a relaxed and cheerful tone.
Even Wen Su, who wasn’t fond of variety shows, found it quite entertaining. By the time she snapped back to reality, the sky outside had already darkened.
Checking the time, Wen Su realized it was already 7:30 PM.
To ensure she looked refreshed on camera tomorrow, Wen Su prepared to take a bath and put on a few face masks.
She hadn’t even had a chance to take off her jacket when her phone rang. Picking it up, she saw it was Chu Jingshu calling.
After answering, Wen Su asked, “What’s wrong?”
A slightly unsteady breath came from the other end of the line, which made Wen Su frown. After seemingly taking two deep breaths, Chu Jingshu’s voice came through. “I didn’t realize this wine was so potent. My alcohol tolerance isn’t very good—”
Wen Su asked in a low voice, “Where are you?”
The alcohol seemed to have dulled Chu Jingshu’s mental clarity. She paused for a breath before giving the name of a private club, saying, “Phew… could you come pick me up, please?”
Upon getting the club’s name, Wen Su immediately rushed out the door. Chu Jingshu’s condition was worrying, especially for a beautiful woman.
Although Wen Su had never been to Haichuan City, the driver the company arranged for her was a local who was very familiar with these locations. It took about twenty minutes to reach the club.
As soon as she arrived at the entrance, Wen Su called Chu Jingshu. Before even walking in, she saw Chu Jingshu sitting on a sofa in the lobby, head lowered as if asleep. A clean-looking woman in a formal suit was sitting next to her, seemingly watching over her.
The next second, Chu Jingshu lifted her head and looked around, searching for something.
Seeing that she hadn’t run into any trouble, Wen Su felt relieved, hung up the phone, and quickly walked over to Chu Jingshu. Taking her arm, she said, “Come on, I’m taking you back.”
Chu Jingshu just looked up at her, quiet and compliant.
The woman who was looking after Chu Jingshu politely stepped forward and asked, “Are you Ms. Chu’s friend?”
Wen Su gave her a cold look. “I’m her wife.”
Recognizing her face, the woman was immediately embarrassed. She had always thought of Wen Su with her short, bobbed hair and a cold, detached face. She hadn’t recognized the beautiful woman with shoulder-length hair at first glance and assumed she was Ms. Chu’s friend.
She never expected Ms. Chu’s wife to follow her on a business trip. It seemed the reports of their love and affection were true.
“I apologize,” the woman quickly said, explaining, “Ms. Chu had a specially mixed cocktail and accidentally drank too much.”
Chu Jingshu stared at Wen Su with moist eyes, as obedient as a little deer.
Wen Su gently helped Chu Jingshu to her feet. “Understood. I’ll take her home.”
The woman stepped forward, offering to help support Chu Jingshu, but Chu Jingshu—who was supposedly tipsy and confused—suddenly planted herself between Wen Su and the woman. Her demeanor sharpened, and she stared at the woman defensively, saying sternly, “Don’t touch her!”
The Woman: …
Wen Su: …
“Thank you, but I can manage myself,” Wen Su said, politely nodding at the woman while suppressing the curve of her lips.
The woman had no choice but to withdraw her hand but still followed behind them, ready to step in if needed.
Chu Jingshu, who had been so aggressive toward the woman just moments ago, could barely walk now. Her high heels made her unsteady, like she was walking on stilts. To steady her, Wen Su had to loop one arm around her waist and hold her arm with the other, shifting most of Chu Jingshu’s weight onto herself.
Since being helped up and walking out, Chu Jingshu had been staring intently at her, as if Wen Su’s face had grown a flower, completely ignoring the path ahead.
The club entrance had a long set of steps. Chu Jingshu paid no attention to where she was going, staring at Wen Su as she walked, and inevitably missed a step, stumbling forward. Fortunately, Wen Su was prepared and quickly pulled her back into her embrace.
Wen Su’s voice carried a slight severity. “Watch your step!”
Chu Jingshu pouted unhappily, looking very much like the “little tail” Jingtong. They were indeed sisters.
“I won’t watch my step!” Chu Jingshu retorted sulkily.
Wen Su found it both amusing and a little troublesome. How had the normally poised, graceful, and intellectual Chu Jingshu become like this after drinking?
“If you don’t watch the road, you’ll fall. Do you want to fall?” Wen Su supported her, carefully navigating the steps.
To her surprise, Chu Jingshu became even angrier at this, with a hint of grievance. “You don’t care about me anymore!”
What on earth is she talking about?
Wen Su wouldn’t genuinely argue with a drunk person. She patiently helped her down the steps. Finally, reaching the bottom, she tried to help Chu Jingshu into the car, but Chu Jingshu angrily shook off her hand and even pushed her away. Wen Su was fine, but Chu Jingshu herself lost her balance and nearly fell to the ground.
Wen Su’s eyebrows furrowed, ready to speak, but Chu Jingshu beat her to it, squatting by the car door and saying petulantly, “I don’t want you. Go away!”
What act is this now?
Before Wen Su could figure out what was happening, she heard Chu Jingshu complaining, “You don’t love me! Go away! Don’t come back!”
Wen Su remembered she was a public figure, and so was Chu Jingshu. If they stayed here for too long, it would become a big problem.
Wen Su crouched down to pull her up. Chu Jingshu tightly hugged her arms and dodged Wen Su’s hand, looking at Wen Su angrily, as if Wen Su had done something unforgivable.
She had seemed so obedient moments ago; how did she turn into this?
“Let’s go back, alright? We can talk about everything later at home,” Wen Su said patiently, softening her voice to sound gentle and approachable.
Chu Jingshu looked at her hesitantly, seeming unsure.
Wen Su seized the moment. “It’s dark now. You should go home, shouldn’t you?”
Chu Jingshu pouted and nodded. Wen Su quickly helped her up and into the car.
Finally managing to get Chu Jingshu into the car, Wen Su closed the door, and the driver started the vehicle toward the hotel.
Wen Su finally let out a sigh of relief and gave Chu Jingshu an exasperated glance. But the next second, Chu Jingshu’s lips trembled with a look of grievance, her eyes turned red, and tears started to roll down her cheeks—
“You glared at me!”
Wen Su: …
