I Became the White Moonlight’s Ex-Wife (GL) - Chapter 3
Wen Su returned to the villa at 6:30 PM.
As she entered the living room, she saw Chu Jingshu talking to Chu Jingtong. Hearing the noise at the door, Chu Jingshu turned to her. “You’re back.”
Wen Su flicked the ends of her hair, changed her shoes, and hurried toward the stairs. Without turning around, she said, “One moment. I’m going to take a shower first.”
Seeing her head upstairs, Chu Jingshu smiled. “Okay, I’ll tell Mom we’re on our way then.”
By the time she finished speaking, Wen Su’s footsteps had already faded.
Chu Jingshu lowered her eyes, and her gaze fell on Chu Jingtong, who was rolling her eyes at someone. She reached out and tapped her sister’s head. “What are you doing? That looks so ugly.”
Chu Jingtong pouted in frustration. She linked her arm through Chu Jingshu’s and complained, “She’s so annoying. Who runs off without listening to what someone is saying?”
“And what about you? You didn’t greet her this morning, or just now.” Chu Jingshu glared at her. “You’re too willful.”
Chu Jingtong grumbled, muttering under her breath, “I just don’t like her.”
Chu Jingshu poked her forehead in a half-warning gesture. “Study hard. Your teacher called me and said you’ve been skipping class. What have you been doing?”
Chu Jingtong looked away and said vaguely, “Nothing. I’m just not feeling it. I don’t want to study.”
Hearing this, Chu Jingshu’s heart softened. She comforted her, “It’s okay. Don’t be afraid. You still have your sister.”
Chu Jingtong threw herself into her arms, but before she could say anything, Chu Jingshu cupped her face and turned it back toward her workbook. “So hurry up and get your act together. Study hard. Now, let’s see how you solve this problem.”
On the second floor, Wen Su quickly washed her hair and took a shower. Luckily, her hair was short, so it was a quick process.
By the time Wen Su had dried her hair and finished getting ready, an hour had passed. She hurried downstairs. Chu Jingshu ruffled her sister’s hair, telling her to focus on her homework, then she grabbed her bag and car keys and headed out with Wen Su.
Chu Jingshu was used to Wen Su’s quiet nature, and they didn’t exchange a single word until she started the car and pulled out of the garage.
It was only after they had left the villa complex and were driving toward the city that Chu Jingshu spoke. “I want to discuss something with you about the divorce.” She spoke carefully, discreetly observing Wen Su’s expression.
Wen Su, who had been staring out the window, was taken aback for a second. She adjusted her posture and said calmly, “What is it?”
“The company is in a bit of chaos right now. I need time to sort things out.” Chu Jingshu chose her words carefully. “If it’s alright with you, I hope you can give me a little more time.”
The original owner might not have agreed, but Wen Su was different. She understood Chu Jingshu’s current predicament.
Having taken over the company from her father three months ago, Chu Jingshu’s situation was far more precarious than it appeared. If they were to divorce now, those who had been held back by the Wen family would start making moves. Chu Jingshu hadn’t fully consolidated her control over the company yet. If Wen Su insisted on divorcing now, it would be an added burden for Chu Jingshu.
Wen Su considered it for a moment. Chu Jingshu, who was watching her, was both nervous and hopeful.
The fact that she didn’t flatly refuse meant there was still room for negotiation.
Trying her best to ignore the expectant look from the person beside her, Wen Su looked straight ahead and said calmly, “Okay.”
Chu Jingshu breathed a sigh of relief, and her smile became more genuine. She looked at the road ahead and asked, with a hint of a test in her voice, “Have you found someone you like?”
This was their agreement. As soon as one of them found someone they loved, they would get divorced.
Wen Su frowned slightly and didn’t respond.
Seeing this, Chu Jingshu wondered if she had crossed a line. The next second, she heard Wen Su say in a flat voice, “No. I just feel that there’s no need to continue this arrangement. It’s not good for either of us.”
Since the original owner and Chu Jingshu hadn’t developed any feelings for each other in the two or three years they were married, it meant they were simply not a good match. There was no point in forcing it.
Chu Jingshu thought of something and chuckled softly. “It’s not entirely without its benefits.”
Wen Su turned to look at her. Chu Jingshu was smiling, looking at the road ahead. Her rosy, full lips curved upward, with a glossy sheen that made one want to taste them.
Before Chu Jingshu could notice, Wen Su looked away and didn’t say anything else.
She didn’t want to get involved in this relationship. It was better not to cross any lines.
Half an hour later, they arrived at the high-end apartment where Wen Su’s parents lived.
It was Wen Su’s father, Shen Baichuan, who opened the door for them. Seeing that they seemed to be getting along, Shen Baichuan happily stepped aside. “Come on in, you must be starving.”
He turned and shouted upstairs, “Stop working! Come down and eat! The girls are here.”
A moment later, Wen Su’s mother, Wen Ruxian, came out of her study, looking a little helpless. “I’m coming. I just had an urgent meeting.”
“What urgent meeting? Is it more important than having dinner with your children?” Shen Baichuan disapproved. “Were your hands on the keyboard again? Go wash your hands and eat.”
After an awkward moment, Wen Su adjusted to the way her parents interacted and went to wash her hands with Chu Jingshu to get ready for dinner.
The food on the table was all cooked by Shen Baichuan. It was all their favorite dishes. Ever since Chu Jingshu’s parents had their accident, Shen Baichuan would invite them over to eat every couple of weeks. He couldn’t just stand by and watch the Chu family go through this.
During the meal, Wen Ruxian looked at Wen Su and said, “I heard from Jing Yiqiu that you’re going to be in Zhaoyang’s new show?”
Jing Yiqiu was Wen Su’s manager, Sister Jing.
“Yes,” Wen Su said after swallowing her food. “Why?”
Wen Ruxian frowned. “Didn’t they say the lead role was already cast?” Her daughter might not have the best acting skills, but she shouldn’t have to play a supporting role for someone else!
Wen Su didn’t even look up. Recalling the original owner’s speaking habits, she said, “It’s fun.”
Wen Ruxian’s eyebrow twitched. She was about to say something but was stopped by Shen Baichuan. He knew his wife’s temper too well. With just a raised eyebrow, he knew she was about to lecture their daughter. He interjected, “If she wants to do it, she should. It’s just a show. As long as she’s happy.”
Wen Ruxian knew how much her husband doted on their daughter, so she gave up helplessly. She turned to Chu Jingshu. “How is the company doing? Is He Yuqing causing trouble?”
The Wen and Chu families were old friends. If Wen Ruxian and Chu Jingshu’s father hadn’t already had their own loved ones, the two families would have tried everything to make them a couple. Because of this, Wen Ruxian was well-informed about the state of the Chu family’s company.
Chu Jingshu smiled and shook her head. “He’s still waiting. He’s only gotten rid of a few small department heads. I think he’s trying to test my abilities.”
A cold look flashed across Wen Ruxian’s face. “That man is too shortsighted. If it weren’t for—” She stopped herself abruptly and changed her words. “If you have time next Wednesday, I’ll introduce you to some of my friends.”
Chu Jingshu knew what she had been about to say—if her father had been better at management, someone like He Yuqing wouldn’t have been able to rise to his current position.
Hearing Wen Ruxian’s last sentence, Chu Jingshu smiled gratefully. “Thank you, Mom.”
Wen Ruxian waved it off casually. Then, as if remembering something, she asked, “How is Tongtong?”
Hearing them mention her sister, Shen Baichuan added, “Tongtong should have been out of school for a while now. Why didn’t you bring her over?”
Hearing them talk about her sister, Chu Jingshu looked a little worried. She sighed and said, “She’s at home doing homework. Her teacher called me and said she’s skipped four classes, and I should pay more attention to her.”
“Skipped classes? You should definitely pay more attention.” Wen Ruxian nodded. Her eyes then fell on Wen Su, and her tone became more serious. “You are Tongtong’s sister, too. If you have time to have fun, why don’t you spend some time with Tongtong?”
Shen Baichuan supported this. “Exactly. Tongtong should be on vacation now, and Jingshu is busy with the company. You need to take on your responsibilities as a sister. This is a particularly sensitive time, so you should take care of her.”
Chu Jingshu was about to say that Wen Su was also very busy with work, but then she heard Wen Su say, “Okay.”
A look of surprise crossed her eyes. She subconsciously looked at Wen Su, who was calmly picking up a piece of brisket and eating it, without any sign of annoyance or unhappiness.
In reality, Wen Su was a little helpless. In the original owner’s memory, the little sister was in the seventh grade. She didn’t expect her to be in the ninth grade. No wonder the little sister didn’t like her.
In any case, she was going to divorce Chu Jingshu. There was no need to make things difficult now. Even if she couldn’t go back to her world, she wouldn’t be disgraced by Shen Manhui.
Shen Baichuan was quite relieved that his daughter didn’t argue or refuse. She was finally acting like a grown-up. Shen Baichuan said, “Bring Tongtong next time. We haven’t seen her in a long time.”
Chu Jingshu smiled and said yes, her eyes involuntarily glancing at Wen Su, who was seriously eating a piece of brisket.
This made her a little confused.
Didn’t Wen Su dislike meat? In the past, Uncle Shen had to force her to eat a couple of pieces, but today, she was actively eating meat.
Wen Su, who was absorbed in her food, didn’t notice Chu Jingshu’s gaze. The brisket was stewed until it was tender and flavorful. The sweet and sour pork was also delicious, as was the squirrel-shaped mandarin fish. The cooking was fantastic!
Shen Baichuan, who always paid attention to what his family was eating, also noticed that Wen Su was eating meat. Her chopsticks had only been reaching for the vegetarian dishes she usually loved. He was a bit surprised. “Did you change your taste today?”
Caught off guard by the question, Wen Su’s hand slipped, and a piece of sweet and sour pork fell onto the side of her plate. Her mind raced, and she casually picked up the piece of meat that had fallen, saying, “This role requires me to gain some weight.”
Hearing this explanation, Shen Baichuan nodded in understanding. He smiled. “You really should get a little fatter. You’re so thin a gust of wind could blow you away.” He then turned to Chu Jingshu and said, “You, too. Eat more.”
To avoid arousing their suspicion, Wen Su forced herself to eat a few bites of the vegetarian dishes that the original owner loved. Although they tasted good, she felt like a sheep.
After dinner, Shen Baichuan wanted them to stay the night, but Wen Su refused, saying she had plans early the next morning.
She didn’t dare to stay there for long, in case she revealed her true self.
By the time the two of them returned to the villa, it was already 11:30 PM. Wen Su, who was full, felt incredibly sleepy in the car. She ignored Chu Jingshu, who seemed to want to say something, and went straight to her bedroom to get ready for bed.
Seeing Wen Su go straight upstairs and into her room, Chu Jingshu thoughtfully watched her figure disappear down the second-floor hallway.
Why did Wen Su seem… different today?
