I Became the White Moonlight’s Ex-Wife (GL) - Chapter 4
The next morning, Wen Su woke up early. After washing up, she began her morning routine. This was an actor’s basic training. Fortunately, the original owner’s body was quite flexible and her breathing was strong, so it wasn’t too difficult.
After her workout, Wen Su took a shower and wrapped herself in a bathrobe before heading downstairs for breakfast.
Auntie Zhang, who was in the kitchen cooking porridge, heard the movement. Thinking it was Chu Jingshu, she popped her head out and said, “Chu—oh, Miss Wen, the porridge will be ready soon. Please wait a moment.” She quickly corrected herself, feeling a little surprised.
She had worked here for more than two years and this was the first time she had seen Wen Su wake up so early.
Wen Su nodded without a care and sat on the sofa to watch the morning news. After a couple of news segments, she heard footsteps on the stairs. She turned her head and saw Chu Jingshu.
Thanks to Wen Su’s accommodation last night and the kindness of the Wen family, Chu Jingshu had a rare good night’s sleep. She went downstairs for breakfast feeling refreshed and energized. Hearing the news playing on the TV, she froze. Seeing Wen Su sitting on the sofa, she paused for a moment before reacting. “…Good morning.”
Wen Su just glanced at her, said “Morning,” and turned her head back. Chu Jingshu was wearing a wine-red silk robe, which made her skin look even more flawless. Her body was also perfectly curvy and graceful, not to mention her killer long legs. It was a perfect match for her taste. Just one more look would break her heart. She had finally found a woman who couldn’t be more perfect for her, but she couldn’t make any moves.
She squashed that thought and looked at the news. After seeing the interpretation of a new law, her heart immediately felt calm and detached.
Chu Jingshu, as usual, chose a sofa that was a comfortable distance away from Wen Su. She sat down and smiled. “Up so early? Are you rushing to a shoot?”
Wen Su was silent at this. The production crew of Chronicles of Yunling hadn’t even sent the script yet; she was just used to waking up early. Seeing that she didn’t answer, Chu Jingshu wasn’t upset. She was used to Wen Su’s personality. In fact, if Wen Su had answered all her questions, she would have been surprised.
The two sat in silence watching the news until a quarter of an hour later when Auntie Zhang brought breakfast to the table. “Breakfast is ready.”
They moved to the dining table. Fortunately, the food kept them busy, and they didn’t have to think about what to say.
Wen Su picked up a steaming bun and took a bite. The moment she tasted the filling, she almost lost control of her expression—
The bun filling had no meat!
Was a bun without meat even a bun? This was a soulless bun!
Chu Jingshu, who had been secretly observing Wen Su, noticed that something was off. Although Wen Su quickly regained her composure, Chu Jingshu still caught the fleeting look of stiffness on her face.
Was the bun bad? Chu Jingshu wondered. She reached for a bun and took a bite.
It was a delicious vegetarian bun, made by Auntie Zhang. It was the flavor Wen Su liked, and there was nothing wrong with it.
So what was wrong with her just now?
Completely unaware of Chu Jingshu’s thoughts, Wen Su was contemplating whether she should move out. The original owner was a classic vegetarian, while she couldn’t live without meat. She couldn’t stand the thought of eating grass every day like a sheep.
Wen Su kept a straight face, but in reality, she was forcing herself to eat the bun. She quickly finished it, drank her porridge, and put down her chopsticks. She said, “I’m done,” and went upstairs.
She had to get out, even if it meant just driving around the city. At least she could wait until after mealtime to come back.
Seeing Wen Su go upstairs, Chu Jingshu’s lips parted slightly, almost asking her if she had time to stay home and look after Tongtong since she had no plans today.
Before the words could come out, she was filled with a sense of absurdity. She must be insane to think that Wen Su would help her with Tongtong. Last night’s conversation was probably just for the sake of Auntie Wen and Uncle Shen.
Chu Jingshu chuckled wryly, shook her head, and continued eating breakfast.
This was one of her few breaks. Soon she would have to face the ambitious schemers at her company. She should enjoy this time while she could.
With the huge walk-in closet at her disposal, Wen Su couldn’t resist spending a few moments choosing an outfit. In the end, she settled on a simple white shirt and jeans.
However, brand-name clothes always had unique designs, and this white shirt was no exception. Wen Su looked quite fashionable in it.
After checking her reflection in the mirror, Wen Su had just started to admire her look when she received a call from her manager, Sister Jing.
She thought her manager had an urgent work matter, but the first thing Sister Jing said was:
“Why are you up so early?”
“…”
Wen Su was silent for a second. “What do you need?”
“Ah—oh, oh, right! You bought the rights to Sweet Lovers, right? They’re getting ready to cast now.” Sister Jing quickly got back to business, although she was still very confused about why Wen Su was awake so early. In the past, she had to call two or three times to wake her up, but today, she only had to call twice. It was so unusual.
Hearing the name, Wen Su’s memories brought up the event.
Sweet Lovers was a masterpiece by the famous cartoonist Feng Tuzai. This comic was a legitimate yuri series. The original owner had bought the film rights and had invited Shen Manhui to play the second female lead, but she had been immediately rejected.
Although Shen Manhui liked women, she never acted in yuri dramas, as falling in love on set was not an uncommon thing in the industry.
After being rejected by Shen Manhui, the original owner naturally lost interest in starring in the show, and she pushed the project to the back of her mind.
Wen Su only thought about it for two seconds before she said, “Let Li Tianheng handle this.”
Li Tianheng was the head producer of the film company the original owner had established. Her words meant that this matter should be handled by the film company, and it had nothing to do with her. The rights were bought under the company’s name anyway.
Sister Jing was stunned. “You’re not starring in it?”
Wen Su was already going to be in Chronicles of Yunling, but this show was one that she had personally requested to be adapted and produced. Was she really not going to star in it?
Wen Su then understood what Sister Jing was asking. She was asking which female celebrity she wanted to work with. So she said, “I won’t be in a yuri drama. You can decide for yourselves.”
Sister Jing on the other end of the phone was dumbfounded. She was about to ask why, but then she remembered that she had offered the second female lead role to Shen Manhui, who had refused. She also remembered that Wen Su had willingly lowered her status to audition for the role of Princess Anning in a show that also starred Shen Manhui.
Feeling that she had found the truth, Sister Jing’s tone became serious. “—Let me ask you a question. You must answer it honestly. This is very important.”
Wen Su picked up a watch and put it on her wrist. She said concisely, “Go ahead.”
“…Are you trying to pursue Shen Manhui?”
Sister Jing’s tone was heavy. She hoped she was overthinking it. Wen Su had a terrible reputation. Everyone knew she was married to Chu Jingshu, and especially after the news broke about the death of the Fuyue Jewelry CEO and his daughter Chu Jingshu taking over, their marriage was a hot topic again on social media.
Chu Jingshu was beautiful, elegant, and refined. She had already amassed a large fan base online with her good reputation and approachable personality. Her public image was very good, and she was almost a “national goddess.” If there was a single negative point about her, it was her wife, Wen Su.
Now that the Chu family was going through a crisis and their business might be in jeopardy, if Wen Su pursued Shen Manhui at a time like this, it would be a fatal scandal. It might even affect Shen Manhui.
Hearing this, Wen Su wasn’t alarmed at all. She had no interest in the plain “little bean sprout,” and the original owner hadn’t had a chance to implement her plans to pursue Shen Manhui. In fact, one of the two things that happened was her doing.
Wen Su said simply, “No.”
Sister Jing felt that Wen Su was surprisingly easy to talk to today, so she couldn’t help but ask, “Then why did you want to audition for the role of Princess Anning?” After all, it was a small role, and her acting was a total mess.
Wen Su said calmly, “To prove that I can act.”
Sister Jing: “…”
That matter-of-fact tone…
While Wen Su’s performance yesterday was a surprise to everyone, how could she say something like that without feeling any shame?
Ignoring her silence, Wen Su said, “If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up.”
“—Wait, hold on!” Sister Jing quickly stopped her. “There’s one more thing. The production team of My Celebrity Friend contacted me. They want to invite you to be a guest for the second season. Are you going?”
This sounded like a frivolous variety show. Wen Su frowned and directly refused. “No.”
She just wanted to be a pure actor. There were plenty of people who wanted to be variety show stars, so she might as well give the opportunity to them.
“You’re really not going? This is the hottest variety show of the year. A lot of celebrities are fighting for a spot.” Sister Jing tried to persuade her as usual.
“No.” Wen Su rubbed her forehead. She was already famous enough; she didn’t need to be on this kind of show.
Hearing her lack of interest, Sister Jing gave up. “Okay. When the script is sent, you can spend the next few days at home working on the role. Try not to go out, and if you do, make sure you take Xiao Sheng with you.”
This reminded her. After hanging up the phone, Wen Su went back to her bedroom and started putting on makeup.
She was a top-tier celebrity, so it was better to be cautious if she wanted to go out alone. It would be terrible if she got surrounded. Being surrounded for autographs and photos was fine, but she was afraid of being cursed at.
Just as she was about to leave after disguising herself, Wen Su received a call from her father. He said he had learned how to make a new dessert and wanted her to come and taste it.
Her father really did love to experiment with desserts and pastries. Although the original owner didn’t really have a sweet tooth, she would always go for this kind of thing, as it was one of her father’s few hobbies.
Wen Su naturally couldn’t refuse, and she was a little interested in desserts herself.
However, after arriving at her parents’ apartment, she had barely enjoyed a single piece of dessert when her father handed her a rather heavy tote bag.
Wen Su was confused about what she was supposed to do with it, but her father smiled and said, “Jingshu has been busy and tired lately. I remember she loves desserts. This will give her a little sugar boost.”
“That girl probably forgets to eat when she’s busy. Since you have nothing to do, why don’t you go and deliver this food to Jingshu? I’ve put your portion in there, too.”
Wen Su: ???
Didn’t he say he wanted me to come and eat dessert? So eating dessert was a lie, and delivering food to Chu Jingshu was the real reason!
