I Became the White Moonlight’s Ex-Wife (GL) - Chapter 9
She didn’t want to know what her sister, Chu Jingtong, was thinking. She simply put the packaged pastries on the table and went to wash her hands.
But Chu Jingtong’s gaze remained on her, making it hard for Wen Su to pretend she didn’t notice.
Since Chu Jingtong didn’t speak, Wen Su had to break the silence after washing her hands. “Keep an eye on your sister for the next two months.”
“?”
Chu Jingtong was still debating whether she should watch the show and was taken by surprise. Her complicated expression was filled with hesitation and confusion.
Wen Su said calmly, “Your sister stays up all night and won’t listen to reason. It’s fine once or twice, but no one can handle it for long.”
Chu Jingtong’s expression was a little odd, but when it came to her sister’s health, she still agreed.
Wen Su did care about her sister, and this made Chu Jingtong change her mind about Wen Su. She didn’t dislike her as much as before.
After giving her instructions, Wen Su got up to go back to her room. She heard Chu Jingtong say in a low voice, “You have to work hard.” Don’t ruin my favorite character, the young lord.
She thought her sister really hated her, but she was surprised to hear her cheering her on. Wen Su pushed the pastries toward her. “Eat up.”
She actually quite liked these pastries, but they were too sweet for her. It was better to leave them for the sisters to eat.
Chu Jingtong glanced at her and asked, pretending to be nonchalant, “Where did you buy the strawberry cake you brought back last time?”
Wen Su wasn’t surprised that she knew. “My dad made it.”
Chu Jingtong’s eyes drooped in disappointment. So it was Uncle Shen who made it. She had wanted to go buy it.
Wen Su realized that the two sisters had similar tastes and both liked sweets. She didn’t say anything else and went upstairs.
Chu Jingshu probably wanted to finish her work before coming home. By the time she got back, it was already past eleven.
Chu Jingtong, who had been waiting for her, was lying on the sofa, scrolling through her phone. When she heard the door, she quickly sat up. “Sis, you’re back!”
A tired Chu Jingshu pinched the bridge of her nose. “Why aren’t you in bed yet?”
“I was waiting for you so we can sleep together,” Chu Jingtong said with a giggle.
Chu Jingshu subconsciously remembered last night and looked up at the second floor. “Why do you suddenly want to sleep with me?”
“So you don’t secretly stay up late. Look at you, your dark circles are so obvious,” Chu Jingtong said matter-of-factly.
“Did Wen Su tell you?” Chu Jingshu glanced at her. Chu Jingtong pouted and said with a sad face, “Sister, you need to take care of your body, too. If you get sick, I…”
Seeing her sister like this, what else could Chu Jingshu say? She patted her on the head and said, “Okay, let’s go to bed early then.”
On the last day of training, Director Su Qiao treated the entire Chronicles of Yunling crew to a meal to help them get to know each other before filming officially began.
The actors had become quite close during the training period. Although Wen Su was a supporting actress, no one dared to put her at a table with the other supporting actors because of her status and family background.
Wen Su had intended to sit next to Chen Minqi, away from Shen Manhui, but Chen Minqi was faster and sat down beside her, leaving Wen Su with Shen Manhui on her right and Chen Minqi on her left.
Wen Su inwardly rolled her eyes. She had forgotten that Chen Minqi and Shen Manhui didn’t get along.
If it weren’t for Zhaoyang’s reputation, Chen Minqi would not have played a supporting role for Shen Manhui.
Wen Su had heard from Lu Yanan in a gossip session that Chen Minqi and Shen Manhui were artists from the same company. The company originally intended to promote Chen Minqi as their top star, but then Shen Manhui came out of nowhere. She not only took all of Chen Minqi’s resources but also got her manager replaced.
If Chen Minqi hadn’t been unable to afford the breach of contract fee, she would have long since left for another company.
A launch dinner would not be complete without alcohol, and everyone at the table, except for Wen Su, drank a lot. No one dared to pressure Wen Su to drink. Wen Su was happy to stay out of it and only took a few sips when some of the actors she was familiar with asked her to drink.
Halfway through the meal, Wen Su felt a weight on her right shoulder. She turned her head and saw that Shen Manhui, who couldn’t handle her liquor, was leaning against her shoulder, her face flushed, and almost toppling over from her chair.
Wen Su reached out to help Shen Manhui up, but she felt like something was wrong.
As an actress, Shen Manhui was no stranger to these events. She must have known her alcohol tolerance to get where she was today. So, why was she so tipsy so quickly?
Wen Su felt that something was off, but she still reached out to steady Shen Manhui. The latter seemed to have no strength and collapsed against her shoulder. As soon as Wen Su let go, she would sway back toward her.
Wen Su suspected that Shen Manhui was doing this on purpose, because Shen Manhui only leaned on her, not on Zhao He’an.
Maybe it was because Shen Manhui still remembered that Zhao He’an was a male actor and Wen Su was a female actress.
Shen Manhui said in a broken voice, her clear eyes filled with confusion, “Sorry… I think I drank too much.”
Wen Su: …
What can I even say?
“Can you… please help me… My assistant… is outside,” Shen Manhui said vaguely, but the smell of alcohol on her was not very strong.
As the only person at the table who hadn’t had much to drink, Wen Su was naturally the one she asked for help.
Even though she wanted to refuse Shen Manhui’s request, Wen Su still helped her up and led her out with a blank expression.
Everyone else saw that Shen Manhui needed Wen Su’s help to walk, so they didn’t stop them and even gave them room.
Shen Manhui’s head rested on Wen Su’s shoulder, her hot breath on Wen Su’s neck, which made Wen Su feel particularly itchy. The hand on Wen Su’s shoulder deliberately traced over her shoulder.
Wen Su wasn’t sure if it was just her imagination, but she felt that Shen Manhui was trying to seduce her. But when she looked down, Shen Manhui looked so dazed that she almost tripped. If Wen Su hadn’t reacted quickly, Shen Manhui would have fallen.
Wen Su pushed down the doubts in her heart and slowly helped Shen Manhui outside. When she saw Shen Manhui’s assistant, Wen Su handed Shen Manhui over to her.
“Thank you, Miss Wen!” the assistant said, taking Shen Manhui. “We’ll get going now.”
Wen Su gave a barely-perceptible nod and watched the assistant struggle to hold Shen Manhui and walk toward the parking lot.
Normally, if Wen Su was a considerate person or had a good impression of Shen Manhui, she would have helped the assistant put Shen Manhui into the car. But Wen Su was not.
She wanted to be as far away from Shen Manhui as possible.
So, Wen Su coldly watched the assistant struggle with Shen Manhui toward the parking lot before she turned around and went back to the launch dinner.
After the assistant helped Shen Manhui into the car and closed the door, Shen Manhui’s eyes returned to normal, showing no signs of confusion or drunkenness.
The assistant didn’t find this strange. She just said, “Sister Shen, should we go back now?”
Shen Manhui thought for a moment and nodded. “Let’s go back.”
Wen Su’s attitude toward her was very strange. She tried her best not to touch her exposed arms and only held her by the shoulders where her clothes were. It was a bit like a gentleman’s hands.
Also, shouldn’t Wen Su have divorced Chu Jingshu by now? Why haven’t they made the news public?
Everything else was the same as she remembered, so why was everything involving Wen Su different?
Who exactly was this Wen Su?
….
Even though Wen Su didn’t drink, she waited until the end of the dinner to leave the hotel. By the time she got home, it was already after midnight.
Using her key to open the door, Wen Su found that the entryway light was on. It must have been left on for her.
She quietly closed and locked the door, took off her shoes in the living room, and was about to go upstairs to wash up and go to bed when she saw someone sitting on the sofa, typing on a keyboard.
It was Chu Jingshu.
The moment their eyes met, they both spoke at the same time:
“Why aren’t you in bed yet?”
“You’re back.”
Wen Su’s tight frown relaxed a little. She said indifferently, “You don’t have to wait up for me. Get some rest.”
If Chu Jingshu was working, she could have done it in her bedroom. She wouldn’t be typing in the living room. Her purpose was clearly to wait for her.
“Aren’t you going to film out of town tomorrow?” Chu Jingshu said with a gentle smile. “I wanted to wait for you.”
Wen Su went straight to pour herself a glass of water. “Do you need help with something?” She thought Chu Jingshu was doing this to talk to her about something important.
Chu Jingshu frowned, then relaxed again. “No, I’ll tell my parents if I need anything.” Her tone was subtly filled with frustration and unhappiness.
Wen Su, who was drinking water, almost choked. So, Chu Jingshu was just waiting for her to come home?
This thought startled Wen Su. To be honest, this was not a good sign.
Before she could say anything, Chu Jingshu closed her laptop and got up to go upstairs. “Now that you’re back, you should go to bed early.”
Her tone was colder than when she first saw Wen Su. Wen Su heard this and knew she had been mistaken.
Chu Jingshu’s actions didn’t necessarily mean she had feelings for her. Maybe she just saw her as a friend. Chu Jingshu was just a considerate person. That’s why Grandpa Wen liked her so much.
“Sorry.” Wen Su cleared her throat, her face feeling a little hot. “I misunderstood.”
Chu Jingshu stopped in her tracks. The unhappiness in her heart dissipated quite a bit. She was even a little happy because of Wen Su’s apology. She turned to Wen Su, about to speak, when she suddenly caught a scent of an unfamiliar perfume mixed with alcohol on Wen Su.
The scent was soft and sweet, with a pleasant powderiness, but it clashed with Wen Su’s aura.
Chu Jingshu’s expression was a little subtle, but she kept a gentle smile on her face. “I’m sorry if this is too blunt, but I don’t think this perfume suits you as much as the old one.” She froze after saying that.
Suddenly talking about perfume confused Wen Su. She hadn’t changed her perfume.
While wondering how the topic had shifted, Wen Su didn’t notice the change in Chu Jingshu’s expression. She was still thinking about when she had changed her perfume.
Although people who used perfume often had more than one bottle and would choose a scent based on the occasion, season, and their outfit, the original owner didn’t bother with all that. She just used the one she liked.
This was one of the few things Wen Su and the original owner had in common. She also liked the original owner’s perfume and had been using it.
So why would Chu Jingshu say she changed it?
Wen Su raised her arm and sniffed. She suddenly caught a sweet, powdery scent and realized it was from Shen Manhui’s perfume.
That was a rarity. What kind of perfume was it that it lasted so long? She had only helped Shen Manhui for a short time, and the scent was still there.
“It’s not my perfume,” Wen Su said concisely, and subconsciously explained, “An actress at my table got too drunk, and I helped her.”
Even if she were going to find her true love, she would have to wait until after she divorced Chu Jingshu.
“Oh… I see,” Chu Jingshu said with a smile. She had the same question as Wen Su—
How long did she have to help her for the scent to linger this long?
Chu Jingshu silently remembered the scent, put her laptop on the table, and went into the kitchen. “You drank alcohol, right? I’ll heat up some milk for you.”
“Go to bed. I’ll do it myself—” Wen Su tried to decline, but Chu Jingshu wouldn’t let her. She took a carton of milk from the fridge, poured it into a pot, and started to heat it up for her.
Wen Su had no choice but to sit at the dining table and wait for her. The two of them talked in fits and starts. Chu Jingshu would mostly start the conversation, and Wen Su would just give short responses.
Chu Jingshu came out with two cups of milk and handed one to her. Wen Su thanked her in a low voice.
Chu Jingshu smiled sweetly. “You’re welcome.”
Wen Su froze, looked away, and silently drank her milk.
As the two of them sat at the table, quietly drinking their milk, Chu Jingshu suddenly spoke. “…I’ve never been to a movie set before. Do you mind if I come visit you on set?”
What was so interesting about a movie set? And Chu Jingshu had never visited the original owner on set before. Why was she bringing this up now?
Seeing Wen Su’s silence, Chu Jingshu said, “If it’s a problem, then never mind. I was just a little curious.”
Wen Su pondered for a moment, remembering that Shen Manhui would also be on set. She said, “It’s not a problem.”
Chu Jingshu’s eyes lit up. “Good.”
Wen Su didn’t say anything else. She quietly drank her milk and sighed inwardly:
The power of the plot is unbeatable. Even though she hadn’t divorced Chu Jingshu, the plot would still find a way for Chu Jingshu and Shen Manhui to meet.
Well, to avoid getting a love rival, she should divorce Chu Jingshu once the Chu family is stable.
