I Ran Away After Transmigrating as a Wealthy Daughter-in-Law - Chapter 12
Jian Yue tried to run away from home in the middle of the night, but Jian Guangtao caught her and locked her in her room.
Jian Yue pounded on the door in protest. “This is illegal!”
Jian Guangtao was unyielding. “What’s illegal about locking up my disobedient daughter?”
Jian Yue tried to get his sympathy. “Dad, I’ll be good. Please let me out.”
Jian Guangtao was unmoved. “If you’re not going to the hospital, you’re staying in your room for a few days to think about it. I’ll let you out when you come to your senses.”
Jian Yue fake cried. “Dad, don’t you love me anymore?”
Jian Guangtao fake cried back. “My daughter, don’t you love your dad anymore?”
Jian Yue’s mood shifted, and she rolled her eyes. “No.”
Jian Guangtao: “…”
Jian Yue was grounded by Jian Guangtao.
Actually, besides not being able to leave the house, her life was pretty much the same as usual.
Jian Guangtao asked Yin Li to talk to Jian Yue. When she saw her, Jian Yue immediately asked, “Have you betrayed me?”
Yin Li scoffed. “Who betrayed you? I’ve always agreed with your godfather.”
Jian Yue made a hand gesture for her to leave. “Goodbye. I won’t see you out.”
Yin Li sat right down on the sofa, grabbed a snack, and said, “Your godfather is so good to you. Even the snacks are delicious.”
Jian Yue also sat on the sofa. “Of course my dad is good to his daughter. You don’t need to remind me.”
“Oh, you’re so sharp-tongued,” Yin Li said with a pout. “How do you become so dim-witted when it comes to love?”
Jian Yue was indignant. “Who’s dim-witted?”
Yin Li retorted, “You’re clearly at a huge disadvantage, but you still insist on having that scumbag’s baby. What do you call that if not being dim-witted?”
Jian Yue frowned. “What do you mean ‘that scumbag’s baby’? Is the baby not mine, too?”
Yin Li waved her hand. “Fine, fine, the baby is just yours. Happy now?”
Jian Yue, though in the wrong, stood her ground. “The baby is mine and mine alone.”
Yin Li shot back, “Oh, you’re so great. Not only do you have no brain, but you’ve also created a medical miracle.”
Jian Yue’s eyes widened. She said angrily, “Why do you have to be so mean?”
Yin Li shrugged innocently. “I can’t help it. My mouth is blessed. I can’t say anything nice about that scumbag.”
Jian Yue: “…”
Their friendship was like that of sisters. Yin Li didn’t like Jiang Pan. It sounded a little childish, but she always felt that Jiang Pan had stolen Jian Yue from her.
She and Jian Yue had been inseparable since they were kids, but when Jiang Pan came along, she became the third wheel, the extra one.
Most importantly, Yin Li thought Jiang Pan was too fake, but even as a good friend, she couldn’t interfere too much in Jian Yue’s love life. She could only hope she was wrong about Jiang Pan.
But Jiang Pan was even more of a jerk than she had imagined. Now that Jian Yue had finally gotten a divorce, she wanted to have the baby. Didn’t that just disgust everyone, including herself?
The more Yin Li thought about it, the angrier she got. She suppressed her emotions and asked, “What are you really thinking?”
Jian Yue looked at her and insisted, “Lili, don’t I even have the right to have this baby?”
Yin Li’s expression froze. “Of course you do, but,” she paused, “have you considered what Jiang Pan would do if she found out? You know her better than any of us. What if she comes to fight you for the baby, or uses the baby to extort you for even more money…”
“If that day ever comes, I won’t let her get away with it,” Jian Yue interrupted her, her voice firm. “Sending her to prison for all her past and present wrongs would be letting her off easy.”
“Then why don’t you send her to jail now?” Yin Li expressed her confusion and dissatisfaction with the situation. “You really shouldn’t have let her go so easily. She’s a crazy person who could turn on you at any time.”
Jian Yue didn’t say anything. A complex emotion flashed across her calm face.
The name Jiang Pan was one she hated, yet it was like a thorn stuck in her heart.
She was the first and only person she had ever loved.
During her freshman summer, Jian Yue was kidnapped.
Her eyes were blindfolded, and her hands and feet were tied. She was locked in a small, smelly room.
Out of concern for her safety, the police didn’t dare to act rashly.
She didn’t know how long it had been. Just as Jian Yue was losing hope, a voice broke through the silence.
“Shh, don’t be scared. I’m here to save you.”
She couldn’t see what the person looked like. It was dark that day, and the wind was blowing hard. But from the lightning and thunder, she could tell that the person in front of her had a pair of clear, bright eyes and a warm hand.
Jiang Pan held her hand and ran for their lives through the mountains.
Jian Yue, who had been pampered since childhood, had never suffered like this. She couldn’t run anymore; she had no strength left.
So, without a moment’s hesitation, Jiang Pan put her on her back and continued to run down the mountain like a madwoman.
Yin Li was right; that person was a lunatic.
On that stormy night, with lightning and heavy rain, she carried her on her back. She was scratched on her arms and face and cut on her leg by a sharp object, but she didn’t stop. She didn’t even say that it hurt.
Perhaps it was because she had never had such a crazy and thrilling experience. Jian Yue was shocked and held on tightly to Jiang Pan’s neck.
On that stranger’s back, she felt a sense of security she had never felt before.
Later, they were rescued.
Jian Yue stared at her and asked, “Who are you? Why did you risk your life to save me?”
Jiang Pan answered honestly, “For the reward money.”
During the three days Jian Yue was kidnapped, Jian Guangtao put out an announcement across the city that anyone who provided any leads would get a reward of 200,000 yuan.
This straightforwardness was refreshing to Jian Yue. She found her to be honest.
She had to admit that she and Jiang Pan were from two different worlds.
Jiang Pan’s monthly food allowance was at most 500 yuan, while 500 yuan wasn’t even enough for a single afternoon tea for Jian Yue.
But it was this person from a different world who sparked an unprecedented curiosity and excitement in Jian Yue.
She fell for her, hopelessly.
So, when Jiang Pan took the initiative to pursue her, Jian Yue could only say yes.
Back then, Jiang Pan had delicate features and was rational and brave. For Jian Yue, who had no experience with love, she was a beacon of light.
Who would’ve thought that was welding light that’s bad for your eyes? Otherwise, how did she fall so blindly in love with her?
Jian Yue’s voice was calm. “Lili, I’m letting her go as a way of paying back the life she saved. I don’t like to owe people, especially her.”
Yin Li knew about Jian Yue’s kidnapping. The torment and fear of those three days still haunted her.
Jiang Pan saved Jian Yue’s life and saved Jian Guangtao from a mental breakdown. That was a fact.
The person who kidnapped Jian Yue was Jian Guangtao’s business rival. He had gone bankrupt and wanted to jump off a building, but he had to take someone down with him before he died. So, Jian Yue became his target.
Yin Li sighed. “Fine.” She paused slightly. “What about the baby?”
Jian Yue was still stubborn. “The baby and that person are two different things. Just because she’s a terrible person, does that mean the baby deserves to die?”
Yin Li was at a loss for words, but she still thought Jian Yue was hopelessly stupid. She sighed. “Raising a child is very complicated.”
Jian Yue’s words were concise and to the point. “What’s there to be afraid of when you have money?”
Yin Li gave a helpless smile.
For Jian Yue, those six years were a lesson. Her first love didn’t even know what love was, so she’d just treat it as a learning experience.
Even if she couldn’t forget her completely for a while, she wasn’t so pathetic as to rely on a child to have any more feelings for such a terrible person.
Jian Yue let out a sigh of relief. “She and I are in the past, but she shamelessly permanently marked me. As a doctor, you know better than I do what it means for an Omega to be permanently marked by an Alpha. If I don’t have this baby, I’ll be alone for the rest of my life.”
Jian Yue hated being alone.
Since she was a child, her father was rarely around for business, and since she was allergic to cat and dog hair, she could only play with toys.
Yin Li knew this, and her heart was slightly moved.
Because she, like Jian Yue, had been alone for a long time.
Since they had already talked it out, Yin Li leaned back on the sofa chair and gave up on being a good debater. “Fine, you have the baby, and then we’ll have something to play with.”
Jian Yue’s eyes widened. “Something? Play? What kind of nonsense is that? She’s a human, not a toy!”
Yin Li laughed. “I was just kidding as a godmother. How could I ever do that?”
Jian Yue narrowed her eyes. “Godmother?”
Yin Li nodded. “I don’t care. I’m her godmother.”
Jian Yue snorted softly. “Who was it who came here to convince me to get an abortion? Be careful, or I’ll tell her when she’s older…”
“Hold on, hold on. You also said before…”
“You shut up!”
“I won’t!”
“…”
…
Jiang Pan found the character of Li Qi quite amusing.
Looking at the extra thirty million on her card, her lips curved into a slight smile. She picked up her phone and called Li Qi’s number.
She was a good, law-abiding citizen. She couldn’t take advantage of people like this.
But Li Qi’s phone was off.
Jiang Pan took a sharp breath and frowned. It was off. So, she took out a phone number she had written down before and dialed it.
